Re: Bravely Default Producer Keen To Continue Series But Admits A New Entry Might Take A While

zool

@Wexter A quick turn around of games can result in games like Mario Golf being released with content held back to be released as dlc at a later date.

Other games get release dates put back under the umbrella of wanting to improve issues with a game, but really it's just a marketing ploy.

BotW is finished but is being held back for reasons only Nintendo know, maybe it's for a launch together with an improved and more powerful Switch version.

And it's funny how Metroid 5 can be put into production after Metroid 4 and finished and released long before it.

Nintendo game announcements and release dates were at one time much more reliable.

Re: Bravely Default Producer Keen To Continue Series But Admits A New Entry Might Take A While

zool

@Wexter yes you are correct saying Metroid 4. Which everyone knows, 4 comes after 5. Well in Nintendo's world it does.
My point still stands, 4 years is to long wait and if it wasn't covid it would be some other reason for the delay.

What Nintendo AAA games are in the pipeline for an early 2022 release? There must be something. Why are we not told about finished game release dates, which are of more interest than games without a release date?

Re: Bravely Default Producer Keen To Continue Series But Admits A New Entry Might Take A While

zool

Telling fans that another game in the series is in concept stage and could be four years away is not really a good idea.

Nintendo do this, Metro 5 and BotW 2 come to mind. Life is more than looking four years ahead for the release of a non existent game and becoming four years older.

I am now and have been for the last two years quite indifferent to when BotW gets a release. Life has more important things to concern myself about, that Nintendo playing games. 🙃

Re: Poll: Why Do You Collect Video Games?

zool

Collecting for collecting sake is a fools game. Collecting to make a profit is ok if you know what you are doing, but most games lose their value after a while. When a new console is released the previous console and their games flood the market, reducing any value they may have had.

Re: Bravely Default II Is No Longer A Nintendo Switch Exclusive

zool

Not every one wants to play every game on the go, and suffer frame rates or lesser graphics for that privilege. So I can see there is a market out there for other consoles to offer these games.

The more games a console like the Switch offers the less copies any individual game will sell. So I guess not enough games have been sold on the Switch to keep it as an exclusive.

Another argument for a more powerful Switch, maybe.

Re: GPD Has Plans For Its Own Switch-Style Handheld Device Powered By Android

zool

I previously said in a post, Steam is only the beginning of the competition in the handheld market.

It happens in lots of industries, a new product arrived (Switch) and it's only time before other companies launch a better one.

The Disney app is catching up with Netflix. China is now the biggest smartphone provider overtaking Samsung. And apart from Nintendo games which are getting fewer and far between, anything else on the Switch can be played on other consoles.

It's not the kids buying Switch Lites that would consider the competition, it's gamers unhappy with the limitations of the current Switch, the one shouting out for a pro.

Nintendo has been distracted with the Lite sales, but time will tell.

Re: Review: Greak: Memories of Azur - A Gorgeous Platformer Crying Out For Co-op

zool

Your review says,
'A lack of co-op play feels like a missed opportunity'.

Not every game should or is designed to play in a co-op mode. Platform games have almost always been single player games.

It seems nowadays that unless your family, friends, randoms and half the gaming world are not able Join in, then it should be looked upon as a negative thing when reviewing or advertising games.

Almost all Nintendo TV commercials show families and a selection of twenty five plus adults playing games together with their Switch Lites.

I think some reviewers are not really reviewing games anymore, they are critics.

Re: Metal Gear Creator Hideo Kojima Is "Afraid" Of A Future Without Physical Media

zool

There has to be an incentive for gamers to change from physical to digital that incentive is probably price.

I tend not to play a game more than once, when it's played I normally trade it. I don't collect things, I'll stream a movie or music or read an ebook. But I do look for value for money and the value of buying physical is much better than paying Nintendo prices for downloads.

The future could be play all you can for a monthly subscription.

If downloads were half the price and transferable to future consoles. I would be happy to download

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Business Remains Strong, But Is The Bloom Off Switch Lite?

zool

The Switch Lite was launched very quickly. It was easy enough to strip down the Docked Switch and put it in a smaller casing in bright colours.

Its aimed at the casual games and children who had a DS. Animal Crossing sold many Switch Lites, and because there is only one save slot the game can't easily be shared between families so many bought more than one Lite.

The bubble has burst for the Lite, a price cut around Christmas will help sales but it has to be a big cut and it has to have a game kids want to play. I know four people who have Lites and AC. All of them have played AC and as all have finished playing it. Two of them have a Pokémon game which they only sometimes play. All four Lites are hardly played.

Between the four Lites only six games were purchased in the last year.

And this article is right, the Switch Lite is not portable, unless you carry a rucksack when you go out.

A new revise DS would have sold 15,000,000 and more. So saying that, the Lite was not that successful.

Re: Daisy Fans Aren't Happy With The New Mario Golf: Super Rush Update

zool

Saying Whatever, can be considered impolite, rude or offensive.

So all Nintendo is doing is removing what they consider might upset people who don't have a certain type of humour. They are being politically correct, as usual.

Next to go will be 'its a me Mario'. Surly this must offend some Italians.

I'm I bovverd, ...... Whatever

Re: Feature: Our Verdict On Mario Golf: Super Rush's 2.0 Update, Including Ranked Matches And New Donk City

zool

NL is a Nintendo only site, and I know you need to keep your nose clean, that's what Nintendo expect. And you have to do this at the expense of being rather mellow in what you say to us.

But come on say it a bit more 'as it is'.

It was a full priced game with a good percentage of its content removed and while one more course is welcome, most of the rest is window dressing. Seven courses still does not enough. We don't know if that's it and any more DLC is simply more window dressing.

If Nintendo wants absolution then at least tell us what the rest of the DLC consists off.

Re: Surprise! Mario Golf: Super Rush Is Getting A New Character, Course And More In Free Update

zool

@JasmineDragon yes they have been doing this for a long time with some games, and that is my complaint. Holding back content that we have already paid for and giving it to us when they want to promote the game again, is wrong.

Obviously they are not happy with the response they have received so far, to many gamers holding back from buying it until they know what sort of dlc there will be and when they will get it.

When are Nintendo going to give us the rest of the game that we paid for? And how many new courses will there be? Answer: we will know when Nintendo decide to tell us.

Re: Surprise! Mario Golf: Super Rush Is Getting A New Character, Course And More In Free Update

zool

Nintendo has succumb to the criticism because of the lack of content in Mario Golf by releasing some DLC early.

No way was this DLC going to be released this soon after the Game was released. But it seems pressure and the less than expected sales figures is what did it.

We have paid for this content already so it's not free, Nintendo decided to drip feed it to us for their own marketing reasons, and it seems that with this game it has not worked for them.

Holding back content is not the same as developing and releasing additional new content. Nintendo should give us the rest of the DLC now and stop this under handed way of treating it's customers.

Re: In Just Five Days, Mario Golf: Super Rush Became The Second Best-Selling Game In The Series

zool

Most game buyers don't, I guess, read reviews. Others will preorder a game and have it before reviews are out, and the bulk of purchases are random when they see the game on display in the supermarket or game store.

The disappointment is when the game does not live up to expectations. Which Mario Golf with its lack of courses does not impress.

Ok DLC is promised and if it gets here quick the game may redeem it's self.

But go into any game trade-in shop or check eBay in the weeks to come and see how Mario Golf games have been traded. Unfortunately the games that were downloaded, the buyer is stuck with.

That said I got the game with a 40% discount so I took a chance. If there is no dlc by the time I finished the game, I'll eBay it, I'm not keeping it until Nintendo decides to give us the dlc.

Re: This Week's New Pokémon Snap Update Also Includes Quality Of Life Improvements

zool

The phrase when writing about games, reviewers and writers used to use was 'the sum of its parts'. That appeared in most reviews but seems to have faded away, probably because it started to sound rather naff and had no real meaning.

So in its place we now have 'quality of life improvements'. Equally as naff and meaningless. But the writers have a new phrase they think is 'cool' so expect it to be around for a while yet.🙃

Re: Soapbox: A Strange Desire For Switch Sports And A Return To Wii's Wuhu Island

zool

@Merry_Blind These thing are not properly covered in most reviews, especially Nintendo only site reviews. Value for money is hardly mentioned in NL reviews.

If you are so sure that releasing old ported games from the WiiU and Wii has no affect on Nintendo's new releases then there must be another reason why they are not releasing many new games.

Re: Soapbox: A Strange Desire For Switch Sports And A Return To Wii's Wuhu Island

zool

It's fine to revisit old games, but there has to be some sort of guide when rating these games. These are 10 year old games so, has the graphics, frame rate improved? Is there there new content added and does the asking price reflect the work that has or has not gone into the game.

And most importantly does the influx of ports impact on new Nintendo releases?

I still have an old Wii up in the loft so why would I pay full price for a game that I could pick up second hand for my Wii at a fraction of the price? If I wanted to go up in the loft and get it, which I don't. I would rather play new games.

Re: Video: 10 Exciting New Games Coming to Nintendo Switch In August

zool

Apart from two all are eshop games. Most of these eshop game's are just fillers to make the release list look good.

The eshop has become a dumping ground for games that clutter instead of showcasing the games. I can't even be bothered to scroll through the games on sale any more because of the clutter, games in desperation selling for pennies.

Re: Soapbox: In Praise Of Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Two Years On

zool

I am a fan of Fire Emblem, but Three Houses is not my favourite.

Like Mario, Fire emblem needs little in the way of a story, it is a strategy game like Chess and Advance Wars. Like Mario goes from one level to another Fire Emblem is about battle.to battle.
Ok there is always a bit of a story between battles but not a whole new game like Three Houses monastery SIM.

I understand how gamers like the SIM element of the game, but for others it detracts from the strategy part of the game. I would rather level up with additional battles and not by fishing, tea parties etc.

It is what it is and changes either work or they don't. But games that sell well initially may not continue their momentum into a follow up game.

Re: EB Games Canada To Rebrand To GameStop By The End Of This Year

zool

Well in my town we once had three games stores. The Game, Gamestation and EB.

EB changed to Gamestation, so we then had two Gamestations and a Game.

One Gamestation closed, that left two game shops.

The Game bought Gamestation, we then had two Game shops in town. One eventually closed leaving us with just one shop. The Game.
Then they closed a lot of their stores, now we have none.

Re: Talking Point: What's Your Switch Game Of 2021 So Far?

zool

I've only bought one Nintendo game this year and a couple of third party games, none scored a 9 and I didn't complete any of them.

I tend buy physical games but not ported games I've already played. This year so far the choice has been beyond poor. And the remainder of the year is not much better.
