A game to powerful to run properly on dated hardware. Maybe this Pokémon game was built to be play initially on an upgraded Switch. But this hasn't happened for what ever reason and unless the console is released soon future game releases will not look their best.
You won't know that Microsoft has acquired Nintendo until the deal is done.
When they acquired Nokia, the Nokia name stayed as Nokia for a while, until the phones became Windows Mobile.
Nintendo has nothing to fall back on if the next gen console doesn't perform well. We will be back in Wii u territory. Gaming is only a small part of the Microsoft and the Sony companies. But is every thing Nintendo has got.
Stating the obvious; Xbox is a better more powerful games console than the Switch. The Switch is the less powerful console that struggles to keep up with third party AAA games.
But the Switch or rather Nintendo has two advantages. 1. The Handheld game play. 2. The Nintendo characters.
And while Microsoft could easily come up with their own Handheld xbox it would be beneficial for them to buy Nintendo. Mario alone would be worth a billion.
You are asking the wrong question. First, ask is there a new Switch on the horizon?
If yes then that is when BotW2 gets released. The game is pending the console release.
If no, there is no new Switch, then ask why is it taking so long to get a release. I would guess Nintendo is not happy with it. Quite often sequels are not as good as the original and it will be judged on the original.
I can imagine it getting a score of 8, from mixed reviews and that would be an anti climax for Nintendo
@TowaHerschel7 I agree, a more advanced Switch could well be digital only, which would make a lot of sense. After all not every game wants or is made to play in handheld. A game like BotW2 in ultra HD would be designed to play on a big 4k screen. That said a cut down version would still get a physical release.
It's to late for me. I gave up on the game months ago. Drip feeding us parts of the game I'd already paid for, so that Nintendo could extend its marketing of the game seems to have back fired on them.
Your comment "now representing a rather decent final product" says it all. It should have been that a launch.
@IronDaughter ....and BotW 3, a 2d Zelda will release this Autumn leaving BotW 2 to have more work done to it. But it definitely, might get a Christmas 2023 release, or early 2024 maybe.
Nintendo will get it ported in 2023, it will look a bit ropy, poor frame rate etc, but at least it can be played in handheld and will bring extra cash in for the developers.
Edge magazine, to be fair, is not really a Nintendo magazine, it's more for the Xbox/PlayStation games; the slightly harder core gamer. The more serious gamers.
In the days when there were Nintendo magazines, they were all about Pokémon and giving free gifts. Maybe for the younger reader.
@GayusGayer you know what, that's what I was thinking. I googled this....
John Kinsley Nintendo Today. Dec 30th, 2016
Japanese outfit Tsutaya have released the list of the top 20 best selling video games in Japan in 2016, which is dominated by the 3DS and PS4.
The top 3 spots were all 3DS games (including the recently released Pokemon Sun and Moon). In fact, 10 of the 20 best selling games were on the 3DS, while 7 were on the PS4 and 3 on the Vita.
There were no Wii U games on the top 20 list at all.
Here’s the complete list of the top 20 selling games in Japan in 2016:
Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride. Number 2. That was my favourite DQ game and the only one I fully completed. DQ, must be the Japanese biggest Nintendo franchise.
But where is Super Mario N64? This is the one game that should have had a complete remake to keep it relevant to new generations, it does not wear as well as the 2d Mario's. I do have a theory about this, but that's for another thread.
@VoidofLight a new and more powerful Switch did launch, and Nintendo kept the Switch name adding Oled, like they added Lite, to the Lite. The next one, I guess this will launch this year, once the old original model is out of production and the Oled becomes the base console.
The name Pro is used as a generic term, to indicate a more powerful console, since no one knows what name will be used the 'Pro' is as good as any. My guess is the Switch Ultra or Switch 4k.
Nintendo has almost always had three machines on the go at the same time over the last 10 plus years. The exit of the original Switch will leave room for the Ultra and in 2023 an updated Switch Lite will launch. 😄
@dudujencarelli and because a blockbuster movie costs millions is why it's released on time and the release date is announced at least a year in advance. Botw2 is finished and sitting on a shelf somewhere. Don't guess when it's going to be ready, guess why it's being held back from us.
Nintendo is NOT aiming to get Botw2 on the Switch, the are waiting for what they see is the right time to release it. The right time for them, not for us, obviously.
When the old Switch model production stops and the Oled is the new basic model and the new (what ever it looks like or is it called) PRO hybrid will be released and so will Botw2.
My guess... Late summer, with pre orders after E3.
I think a lot of subscriptions will be cancelled when the renewals come round. It will be better for the gamer to take a month by month subscription, play two or three n64 games then cancel for a few months.
After all when a big game gets released (botw) or what ever, there won't be much time for n64.
@Meteoroid I agree up to a point that developers should not port games unless they can be confident that the game will port well. But mostly profit gets in the way.
But developers know in advance what comprise they will have to make, but reviewers should be stricter with their review instead of trying to justify why the game regardless of faults is still worth the cash. Giver a lesser score for poor graphics.
The Switch is not built to play most games, other that Nintendo and basic indi games. The rest are suck it and see or read a good review or two first.
I have read half a dozen reviews of Disgaea 6: Defiance of Destiny and they all comment on the frame rate and resolutions.
Apparently the game has four or five setting adjustments but none work well. Yet it runs ok on the PS4.
So either this is a lazy Switch conversion or lazy Switch hardware.
Maybe reviewers need to realise that the Switch has its limitations and don't just point out the issues, but mark the game down for being a bad port, instead of praising the makers for getting it to run on the Switch as though this was some great achievement. "The game looks a mess but at least you can play this mess on the go".
I watched the first 15 minutes and that was enough, unlike a fine wine Gamesmaster has not improved with time. Not that it ever could. And I'm not sure if giving the Oled the Gamesmaster's approval is a blessing or a curse.
Oh, and Trevor can't be that desperate for work surely.🙃
Was hoping to grab a really good Black Friday deal, but it's the same old same old games that crop up time after time, and will be back again for Christmas and New year sales.

excited? No. It's just a game. Less childish in its style of play than the previous game would be good, and Nintendo not drip feeding the contents over the following 12 months or so. If it's a full priced game then give us the full game from day one.
If the games you want have not or are not been released for whatever reason at the moment, do you look to buy something you would not normally play?
I think this is s a reason for higher sales. I don't want Mario Party and Advanced wars has been pushed back until next year. And I was looking at Shin Megami Tensei V reviews, not because I would normally buy this game but because of the lack of game releases at this time of the year.
Shin Megami Tensei V is not for me, but it could have been, I guess.
With a demo being released now and not before launch, suggests that maybe Nintendo expected higher sales.
That said I have not bought MD. And although it looks good on the Oled, playing the demo I thought the controls felt awkward. A bit like Yoshi does playing the N64 version on the Switch.
Well, good old Mr Bowser addressing complaints, about the Switch Fan complaints of poor emulation for Nintendo 64 games on Switch Online. Constantly looking for ways to make their online features and those games better......
What we have been given is quantity over quality. If Mr Bowser and the rest of Nintendo have not noticed this, or worse thought we would not notice, then what have then been doing all this time. It's a rush job with little thought, putting the N64 games online.

Just to see the game would be good. Even though it's now five years old.
Re: Deals: Switch OLED Just Dropped In Price - But You'll Have To Be Quick (UK)
Price reduction suggests sales are not where they should be. Gamers are not upgrading, they are hanging on for a Pro version.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Lining Up A Huge Year Of Gaming In 2022
That's what Nintendo do.
List a number of announced games (5) and add some expected titles which may or may not appear (3), and we have a good list.
Then later in the year one or two don't turn up and one or two are pushed back to 2023.
But it makes good reading for now.

The game is finished, done, complete and sitting on a shelf somewhere. Even Nintendo does not have a release date.

This is typical of "news" today. Always get just half a story.
Re: Poll: So, How Would You Rate Nintendo's 2021?
Games can be subjective, but this year has been a poor year.
If I rate Sonic Colours as possible the best game I bought this year that says it all.
Re: Kirby And The Forgotten Land Has Been Rated For Nintendo Switch
@mr-duster yes Nintendo did drip feed the contents of the game to us, just like they did with Mario Golf. Read a few reviews, it's not just me.

Re: The "Last Free Update" For Mario Golf: Super Rush Is Now Live, Here Are The Full Patch Notes
I was looking forward to this game, but when it was released it didn't have the wow factor, it was rather bland and certainly looked incomplete.
Unfortunately the drip feeding of the dlc hasn't encouraged me to want to pick up and play again.
I think I was expecting more of an arcade golf game and while it is an arcade game of sorts its not archadey enough.

Switch is the odd one out, we will get it sometime, never. That's the trade off for buying a Switch.

Re: Talking Point: Will Nintendo Abandon The Switch Concept For Its Next Console?
The logical answer is yes they will abandon the Switch concept.
They could have kept the Wii or a similar updated console and an updated DS and had them both able to use the same game card for some games.
Allowing a more powerful home console and a more portable handheld one.
After all that is basically what the Switch Lite is.
