@johnvboy I understand, but that way of looking at it can be somewhat simplistic.
For example. Someone in my family likes playing Splatoon, she subscribed when Nintendo started charging, she also used it to play Animal Crossing for a while last year. She is not interested in nes, SNES or N64 games or any thing else that is included with the subscription.
She has moved on from AC and doesn't play Splatoon any more, at least until the new version is released.
Can she afford it? yes, does she think it's good value? No.
Nintendo adding more stuff to the subscription package to try and justify the price or next price increase shows that they don't think N64 games will stand up on their own merit.
@electrolite77 ok should I have written, "long time Mario Kart fans don't want any new Mario Kart games. Mario Kart 8 and the 48 old tracks will do and at the end of 2023 give us another 48 old tracks".
Logic should tell you that a good majority of loyal long term gamers would choose a new game with new tracks and a new look, over old tracks tagged on to an old game.
Of course it doesn't have to be either or, but while the Switch is selling Nintendo seems happy to resell it's old stuff to the new kids.
@Wexter I would imagine most gamers know whether the asking price is good value or poor value for their needs, and even if they feel it's poor value they may pay that price because they want the on line service, or don't but want to play the N64 games.
What they don't need is patronising, about how breaking down the cost to pennies will create the illusion that the value is suddenly better.
My perspective is my opinion, and I can disagree with yours, that's how things should work.
@johnvboy " what did you expect brand new ones". Ones that had a little work done on the graphics and a lot of work on the controls. Nintendo have had five years to get it right.
@johnvboy you come across as a salesman from yeasteryear, justifying the affordability of what he is selling by suggesting it's only the cost of one cigarette a day..
@Wexter my original comment was replying to @johnvboy about his justifying the yearly premium to Nintendo by breaking the cost into pennies per day.
I was looking forward to playing N64 games but they look terrible and the controls are all over the place. They are well past their sell by date.
The N64 games and the Mario Tracks have been rushed out to add content to justify the price increase of the online service. If the N64 games were good enough I would pay a small price to download a few but not an on going premium to rent than.
@johnvboy forget the daily rate it's not relevent at all. No one budgets daily, and even if some people unfortunately have to budget weekly they would find it very difficult to save much.
And when you add in the Amazon prime, the Netflix, Disney, the Sky, their mobile, value counts and the pennies add up, but for lots of Nintendo players they just see poor value, even some of those that still subscribe.
@johnvboy 17p a day while being subjective does not seen much, but Nintendo does not allow a daily payment.
But to many I will agree, the £60 a year is affordable like it is to me. But affordability is not and should not be the only reason for parting with your money. Value for money is another reason.
For me it is poor value. I don't play games on line, the N64 games graphics look poor and the added Mario Kart Tracks are for the most part just that old tracks.
So if I were to pay £60 it would not good value for me. But if you got 17 pence worth of game play a day, your the guy it for. 😀
@electrolite77 extrapolating, you may be using this word out of context. If you are accusing me of commenting on an unknown situation, then that is what you are doing also. I read reviews, comments and others opinions and there is certainly a vast number of dissatisfied Nintendo gamers out there.
And while you might be jumping up and down with excitement at 48 old tracks being added to an old version of Mario Kart over two years, many gamers would rather see a new Mario Kart.
But we all know there will be no new AAA franchise games released on the existing Nintendo equipment.
None really, I'm disappointed with them all. They are all showing their age. I wouldn't recommend spending money on this lot. Maybe when all the tracks are released there may be slightly more value to the package, but for now your money could be better spent than on eight outdated tracks.
@HeadPirate I guess my view is mainly from the Nintendo console, I am less knowledgeable with other games. But with Nintendo, the main mission in a Mario game is to rescue Peach, job done, roll credits. If the game is good enough or has some incentive to continue playing, gamers will carry on. But just to go back into the game to collect say, all three coins on one level for no additional reward is not always appealing.
To collect all 900 seeds in BotW just to say 'I've collected the seeds' when in fact you have just followed a walkthrough guide does seem somewhat pointless, well to me anyway. 🙃
@HeadPirate I see where you are coming from with Hades and the like, but there is a fine line between that and say, setting the amount of stars needed in Super Mario 64 to trigger the credits, and games like Hades designed to keep starting over.
For example are the Shrines in BotW put there to all be beaten or are they there so that you will discover enough depending on the area of map you cover?
A game is finished when you get to the end, that is unless it's a Nintendo game.
You see Nintendo see's it's self as appealing to the family first, games for the family to play together. Gamers second. I blame the Wii. Nintendo, when asked 'who is the typical gamer' for the Wii, replied, anyone who can operate a TV remote, including Granny.
They make most of their games easy to finish, which is when the credits roll. So any age or experience level is a winner. Completing the game is for other people.
I finished BotW when the credits appeared. That's my excuse for giving up. There was little incentive to continue. It was getting slightly tedious, and the credits were like the cavelary coming over the hill to save the day. 🤠
I think Botw2 came out to the oven looking worse for wear because Nintendo changed the recipe and now they are trying to patch it up.
If I played chess with anyone here, it wouldn't matter what the board and pieces look like we both (assuming we play chess) would know the basic rules.
Why can't there be some basic rules for the strategy in rpg's? That would make the learning curve shorter and the game more enjoyable.
@ArchRex it just seems that since it's first announcement, and the open world hype and Odyssey comparisons, it going downhill. But I'll give the demo a go.
I just have a feeling that this Kirby will be scoring a good 7 or a NL 8. And with a high price tag.
Platform games for the most part have been single player adventures. When thay are designed to accommodate more that one player the one player mode suffers. The previous Kirby Switch game is a good example.
Trying to kill two birds with one stone and make a game that is both an excellent single player and and excellent multi player game is doomed to fail.
This looks like the single player mode is the weaker of the two, yet again. One for families with young kids. So much for the big open world.
When we are presented with a good few games coming at us all within a short time, like we seen in the last Direct, games seemingly worth playing, I look for negatives.
These negatives are sometimes dresses up with an unrealistic score. 5/10 tells me to forget it even though my wifi speed is 268mbps.
It's a shame. It would be good if we could get a discount 50% of existing game prices so we could buy a few games we never got round to buying when the Switch arrived.
So either buy the 8 track pac one at a time; and at approx £19 per 8 tracks, that is £114 for all 48 old tracks. Not good value. But I guess once all 48 tracks are available the bundle will get a job lot release at discount. Might be worth the wait.
Or Switch online, and you can rent the tracks for as long as you pay your monthly subscription. The more you use this method the more value there is in your having a subscription.
For me both methods are an expensive way to play old Mario Kart Tracks.
@westman98 If BotW 2 was released on the existing Switch as a physical 1080 version and as a digital 4k download only version, on a new pro type Switch (that can't play physical games) More gamers would go for the new console and the 4K download.
@westman98 to increase digital sales you need to have something that physical games don't have. Zelda BotW 2 that plays and looks like a PS5 game and is a digital exclusive should do it.

Just like the Apple, Google, Sony and Samsung owners do, I'm one of them.
I don't think there will be a new Nintendo console any time soon, if ever. From now on Nintendo's consoles are called Switch.(like xbox/ps). Maybe Switch 1,2,3,4 etc or Switch Lite, Oled and Ultra.
A digital Console may be the exception, but Switch Digital sounds ok.
@johnvboy "the Switch is still a cool piece of kit that now has a new OLED model"
I agree, I'm playing Legend of Mana. Then Project Triangle Strategy, Advance Wars and Kirby. By then maybe Mario v Rabbids. All ideal to play on the Oled.
If Zelda BotW 2 was released next week, it would go to the back of my playlist. I have used Oled mostly in handheld, something I never did with the original Switch.
@NEStalgia I guess it depends on where you see the Oled fitting in. Nintendo has three handheld devices and that probably enough. The Oled will become the entry level Switch and production on the original Switch will stop this year. That's when the new upgraded Switch will be seen.

@johnvboy yes that sounds about right, if the new console, is a completely different type of console, in other words not a Switch as such. Maybe a digital only machine.
But a more powerful Switch that plays physical games, only requires an upgrade and a slightly new look. That I'm sure will be here by October.

Re: Nintendo Highlights Upcoming N64 Releases In Latest 'Switch Online + Expansion Pack - Overview Trailer'
@electrolite77 if the best reply you have is to say you don't understand the meaning of ‘good majority’, then you go on to say .
"You can tell from the long term fans in here who are happy with the tracks."
A good example of 'good majority'.😀
And yes lots of gamers will be happy with what Nintendo has on a take it or leave it offer. But they were not offered a new game.
It is ok to sometimes disagree with what Nintendo are doing, it makes for healthy discussion and keeps them on their toes.

The Switche Online Expansion Pack service is getting more content but I wouldn't go as far as saying improving, I'd say 'more of the same'.
Nintendo are not playing to its loyal audience, the Mario Kart fans that have owned the older consoles and already played all these old tracks.
These fans want new tracks in a new game, with up to date graphics and new ideas.
Nintendo are playing to the new kids on the block with a revamped Mario Kart 8.
