Nintendo has provided its first official sales update for Mario Golf: Super Rush, and the figures show that our favourite plumber's latest outing is likely already his most successful yet.
In its financial earnings report covering April through June 2021, Nintendo revealed that Mario Golf: Super Rush sold 1.34 million units worldwide. The game only launched on 25th June, meaning that those 1.34 million sales – which include both physical and digital sales combined – came during the game's first five days on store shelves.
That'd be an impressive start to life for any game, but when you consider past sales for the Mario Golf series, it's even easier to see just how well Super Rush is performing.
While official figures are frustratingly difficult to come by for older titles, VGSales reports that past entries in the series have sold as listed below. Super Rush's 1.34 million sales means that it already became the series' second best-selling game in those first five days, and could well be top of that list today:
- Mario Golf (N64) - 1.47 million
- [ Mario Golf Super Rush (Switch) - 1.34 million (as of 30th June 2021) ]
- Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour (GameCube) - 1.27 million
- Mario Golf: Advance Tour (GBA) - 0.53 million
- Mario Golf: World Tour (3DS) - 0.49 million
- Mario Golf (GBC) - 0.22 million
Nintendo's earnings report also revealed that the Switch has now surpassed 89 million sales worldwide, and has provided us with an updated list of Switch's best-selling games of all time.

I eagerly bought World Tour because it looked cool. This game didn’t look cool so I didn’t buy
Happy for Camelot, but I feel like they should re-negotiate their schedule with Nintendo now that they have to make HD games as they seem to have issues finishing up games with a lot of content included. Because of this I have unfortunately not bought their most recent games, but still I'm looking forward to what the future brings
It is almost as shallow as a puddle, but I’m still finding fun things about it. I like the Golf Adventure with my Mii & the Multiplayer is fun.
I know the DLC will be courses like New Donk City, but a new Game Mode or some new features would be a good addition too.
A shame because it is by far the worst one... I bought it and regret adding to these figures.
Sales data for Mario Golf Advance Tour, World Tour, and the GBC entry were taken from Vgchartz lol. All we know is that they sold below 1 million copies.
Anyways, Mario Golf Super Rush had almost identical launch sales to Mario Tennis Aces despite Mario Golf
titles selling a lot less than their Mario Tennis conterparts on past Nintendo hardware, so it seems to have broken that long-standing curse.
Strong growth for the series. Super Rush should be a 3+ million seller when all said and done.
Doesnt surprise me. Unfortunately its not hard to sell a turd with the amount of consoles the switch has sold thus meaning light versions of once great, robust franchises can be churned out and people will still buy it on name alone. See Mario Tennis.
@steely_pete yeah, Nintendo has a solid release schedule Camelot has to oblige to sadly.
They have a very tight schedule it seems. And since Camelot mostly releases mario games they do not have much wiggle room and they have to release their game in summer it seems.
Feels sad that Nintendo don't put more effort/content in these games; Mario Golf, Tennis Aces, Paper Mario. All of these games feels like an 7-8 and are getting similar criticism.
@Kidfunkadelic83 I honestly prefer Mario power tennis on gbc since it had a decent story mode and funny/good minigames but Mario tennis aces is a good game in my book. The added content should have been there from the start but the game looks and plays solid for the most part.
Using the trick shot correctly can be very annoying and blocking a powered up shot with is impossible.
That part is exactly why i prefer the old and more cool powered up tennis shots on the gamecube/gameboy.
Dunno how to feel about this...
Never new the great 3ds game sold so little.. a shame, since clearly it is the better game.. still. .. nice to have a switch golf game on the road, even thoguh it is a bit shallow
Everything sells better on Switch. Eagerly waiting for a new F-Zero, Starfox and Golden Sun!

I've brought the game but put about an hour into it, just waiting for the content updates, hoping it adds some interesting stuff
Im waiting for future content before a buy. Call me old fashioned but I like the full game for full price lol
its a shame is its just a half assed effort and so Camalot will just put as little effort as they did for this in the next game.
@tntswitchfan68
and its people like you why game companys put in as little effort as they can.
its a shallow game compared to prevoius entrys, games should be improved with each new entry not the other way round
Not bad for the worst game in the series. Anyone older remember the N64 and GameCube days when Mario Party/Golf/Tennis were widely considered to be of the same quality as Mario Kart? Shame that's not the case anymore.
@BrintaPap bang on. The potential for these later releases is rediculous. They should be stuffed to the brim with content for online and offline. Cups, championships, one on ones etc, just how the Tiger Woods games of old used to be.They are just bare bones. I agree that Tennis got better from an online point of view but as i solely play offline there just isnt enough content to keep me coming back and others have mentioned the same.
I sold it and used the money to buy DLC for Everybody's Golf on PS4. Woefully under-baked.
Most game buyers don't, I guess, read reviews. Others will preorder a game and have it before reviews are out, and the bulk of purchases are random when they see the game on display in the supermarket or game store.
The disappointment is when the game does not live up to expectations. Which Mario Golf with its lack of courses does not impress.
Ok DLC is promised and if it gets here quick the game may redeem it's self.
But go into any game trade-in shop or check eBay in the weeks to come and see how Mario Golf games have been traded. Unfortunately the games that were downloaded, the buyer is stuck with.
That said I got the game with a 40% discount so I took a chance. If there is no dlc by the time I finished the game, I'll eBay it, I'm not keeping it until Nintendo decides to give us the dlc.
It is sad that sometimes the worst Nintendo games sell the best. The same also goes for the Paper Mario series, where Sticker Star - I think - is still the most successful Paper Mario game.
Nice. I am happy to see Mario Golf do well. It is such a fun game of golf.
it's a half finished game
@NoLife I wouldn't include Paper Mario Origami King there. The only "bad" thing about it is the battle system, that you may like it or not, but it's a BRILLIANT game in every other aspect. If the battle system was traditional, I assure you it would be considered the best in the franchise.
With supposed new modes in development, I'll probably get this game. Hoping it will be a good time with my kids.
@RareFan Super Paper Mario is by far the best selling game, so it's not bad. Origami King should be second already, which is great. Sticker Star would be third if this is right, although I bet Thousand Year Door would sell like hotcakes (perhaps up to the first position) if they decided to remaster it for Switch...
@IronMan30 Me too, I'm planning to get it by the time it has more content and seems worth it. Same as I did with Mario Tennis (right now it's a pretty good game).
So disappointed in this game it’s light on content and just feels unfinished getting a bit dismayed with the switch to be honest what with unfinished games at full price and endless WII U ports
So basically guaranteed to be the best selling game in the series, how has that happened, do people not read these Nintendo Life comment sections.
Might be the best selling, but definitely my least favorite of the console Mario Golf games. What a disappointment.
@michellelynn0976 Wow, I can't believe someone posted a positive comment about Mario Golf Super Rush! All I was reading was how it's a "turd", "shallow as a puddle", "half-assed", etc. It's true I haven't played the old Mario Golf games in a long time, but Super Rush is my favorite Mario Golf game and I've had a blast with it. Yesterday I played with some stranger who was easily chipping in and landing awesome shots on the green. When I went and looked at people I'd recently played with I saw they'd played for 120 hours. I've put about 45 hours in because it always sounds fun to play a few quick rounds with strangers online. I love the gameplay, the lack of load times, the graphics, etc. Super Rush is just that, a super rush!
@johnvboy It really is amazing seeing a game get dragged so much. I've had tons of fun playing Super Rush and continue playing it almost daily.
It’s a really fun game. Good stuff
@60frames-please,
Same here, an awesome little golf game, that's easy to pick up and play.
@60frames-please
For what it's worth, I had fun with the game as well. It's important to keep in mind that the userbase at Nintendolife is an extremely small minority.
@johnvboy The comment sections in here are like the IT guy in Bruiser or that know it all bloke that works in a specialist record shop. Absolutely everything is garbage to them. They spout the definitive truth. They know exactly what Nintendo should do, even though they've been proven wrong week in week out. Still, they can always get a Steam Deck.
Yay, Nintendo gets rewarded for their lowest quality products again! Maybe if the next one is a guided tour where you just press A once at every hole, they'll double sales!
I just want Camelot to stick with RPGs more. It seems like they are starting to get tired of making golf games lately and Nintendo should had take notice not to mention Camelot RPGs tend to end on cliffhanger, something fans are excited to see but hate if not delivered. If you had no plans to continue with the franchise stop ending your games with cliffhanger.
Just goes to show that this company can put in as little effort as humanly possible and still make bank.
@Onion Yeah, it's just interesting to see how widely opinions diverge. I also wonder how many have played it versus echoing negative opinions. Who knows, nobody will ever know.
@Funneefox You're cracking me up. I've got this image in my head of programmers barely lifting a finger, slowly typing a line of code, constantly looking at the clock for their next break!
@NEStalgia Sounds like a picture book visual novel or something. Like see a picture of a golf course, press A, see a different picture, press A. Would be a risky piece of software to put in stores for sale!
@WiltonRoots We've got opinions, and we're here to share them!
@60frames-please This is true! Keeps me entertained anyway...
@WiltonRoots,
They will like the Steam Deck as it won't be too successful, so they can say it's the best thing ever, even though nobody will actually own one.
As well as being on Switch I'd say Super Rush is the only one that made an effort to sell to people who didn't already buy the games. With its version of Speed Golf likely what caught peoples attention.
That's why it's the first game since the N64 original to sell over 1 million. (Ignoring those made up Vgchartz numbers)
I think fanbases are a bit insular, you need to consider that to make a game more people can enjoy. you can't just double down on players who already liked the originals. Otherwise every 2D Mario would be as challenging as The Lost Levels and there'd have been no new fans.
Plus Super Rush is a fun game either way.
@johnvboy Amazing how people who complained about the size of the Wii U gamepad and how it hurts their wrists after prolonged play, and the fact that they can't fit the Switch in their pocket are now drooling over that 800p goodness on something the size of a small barge.
@Dr_Lugae spot on.
Hopefully that results in a lot of posts launch support in addition to the recently announced character and course, I want to get the game I just want there to be just a little more meat on its bones.
Nice job Super Rush!
Both this and Aces seemed bland (though Aces' core gameplay was admittedly pretty fun) so I bought Toadstool Tour instead; unfortunately the disc didn't work so I'll just stick to Wii Sports Golf.
Some potential to be great, but it's blatantly unfinished. It's only okay for the time being.
The update is a step in the right direction, but this is just becoming a really bad business model.
Yeah, I could just wait, but It just poisons the brand. So many people refuse to touch Mario Tennis Aces even though I think now, in it's complete state, it's a great game. I feel like Super Rush will be the same. I bet when it's said and done, it's gonna be a great game, but no one will care at that point and just remember what it wasn't.
@Minjinx exactly! It’s good but could be much better, possibly great with more content.
@60frames-please I like it. It is a fun game. If other people don't like it, I understand, that is their choice.
