Re: Netflix Will Reportedly Offer Video Games "Within The Next Year"

zool

Nintendo is reasonably safe with its handheld consoles, which is all two and soon to be three of them.

But it's home console (games on big screen TV's) is what's in danger.

Netflix will do things correctly and in a big way, it may do a deal with Nintendo to offer Mario Zelda etc games on its service.

We all know that this is where the future of gaming is heading. Handheld gaming is a separate issue, but to play Nintendo games on a big screen in 4k without the need to invest in a console does look attractive, especially when Nintendo doesn't even have a 4k console for us to purchase.

Re: Review: The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD - A Remaster That Truly Soars

zool

@blindsquarel yes I have played it, and I've played Ocarina and I've played Ocarina on the 3ds in 3d, the best version. That was remade in 3d and priced at £30.

If Skyward is a new game to you that's fine, but to me it's old and I've paid full price already for it.

The point is while Nintendo churn out old games at full price and reviewers review them as new games, like all the ports we've had from the Wii u over the last 4 years, then fewer new games will get released.

Good luck to all those who haven't played these old games and enjoy them and if you are happy to pay full price for what is 10 years old then that is ok as well.

But for the 'some of us' who would like new games for our money, saying botw 2 is being made and it might be here in a year's time is not really good enough.

Re: Soapbox: Nintendo Is More Collaborative And Open Than Ever, Which Benefits Us All

zool

Movies, TV and Theme Parks are all other people's domain, games are Nintendo's.

Next time I visit Japan I might stop and visit Universal to see the Nintendo area, or maybe I'll wait until it comes to Florida in about 2028
A Mario movie, I leave the movies to the expert Disney.

If Nintendo want to be more open, then tell us why games are delayed, why we dont have a more powerful Switch and why you are subjecting us to so many ports.

Re: Review: The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD - A Remaster That Truly Soars

zool

@blindsquarel Nintendo are charging full price for an old game that had a facelift.

Full price as in a new game that's been a few years in development, a game we've never played before, it's brand new.

A rehashed game should have a budget price. Similar to something selling as second hand, that's been refurbished. Nintendo is asking us who have already bought and played and paid full price, to pay full price again, to play it again.

I would rather play a new game, but Nintendo aren't offering many new games at the moment.

To you this may be a new game, if you didn't buy the original.

But to others it's an old game, we've been there and done it and if it had a budget price, for the budget game it is then it might be worth a revisit. A bit like watching an old movie, you don't expect to pay full price.

It's not that it isn't affordable, it just not good value for money, and according to stuff I've read its not one of the best Zelda's.

Re: Review: The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD - A Remaster That Truly Soars

zool

9 was an obvious score.

I think these scores are handed out like sweeties. For a ten year old game that had existing issue's fixed and an HD upgrade and a £50 price tag, I would max a score at 8.

Now that Nintendo have ported almost all the Wii U games to the Switch, they are starting on the Wii games. It's anyone's guess how many Wii games are currently undergoing this transformation to be ported at full price.

While in its self you could say no one has to buy the game, and that's true, it is the lack of new games that will suffer. Are suffering already.

Re: The First Review For The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Is Now In

zool

Quality of Life. They have done enough to let it play on the Switch, given it a makeover and removed some otherwise annoying features.

Shame they could not fix the most annoying feature, the cash grab price. But in all honesty they have not brought this game back for us original gamers, its for the newer gamers who see the game as a new game.

Re: Talking Point: Can Metroid Dread Be The Franchise's 'Awakening'?

zool

Yes it can be an awakening, but I doubt it will.

It had already been built up to be something I assume it isn't. One site even said it will be better than Metriod 4.

Metroid has a small fan base compared to other Nintendo franchises.

What it has in its favour is that Nintendo releases for the rest of the year are not going to set the world alight, so this game may get sales they wouldn't otherwise have done.

I would also assume that when a new console variant get its release, the buyer likes to have a new game with it, so that will help sales.

What will put some gamers off is Nintendo cash grabbing again. This is s 2d game with a £50 price tag. In other words a 3ds game that should cost £30. 🙃

Re: UK Charts: Monster Hunter Stories 2 Takes Third-Place Debut In Another Decent Week For Nintendo

zool

@westman98 sales of Mario Golf are dropping 50% a week, and have fallen into 4th place in the above chart. Maybe people do read the reviews and are giving this game a miss, for now anyway.

I bought Mario Golf because I got 42% off, a good deal for the content on offer and it is fun to play.

I hope Nintendo alter their strategy and stop releasing half finished games or at least price the game accordingly. They deserve low sales for taking us for granted.

Re: Talking Point: Should We Be Worried About Screen Burn-In With Switch OLED?

zool

My 3D LGTV suffered from screen burn and after three years it had to be replaced, Samsung TV have been prone to burn as well.

It can happen if you leave the screen on pause for to long. The pause live TV feature can damage a TV screen if left on pause for to long.
The Switch should be able to Switch off automatically if it detects non use after a few minutes.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (July 10th)

zool

Mario Golf.

I'd been looking forward to this game since it was announced, but due to lack of content and a £50 price tag, i gave it a miss, poor value, at lease until a chunk more content is added.

But it was on Amazon for £39 and they gave me a £10 off voucher. So £29 is a good deal for the content there is, even if the Dlc is left wanting. But I'm sure it won't be 🤞

Re: Round Up: Here Are The First "Hands-On" Impressions Of The Nintendo Switch OLED

zool

Things are coming together. Oled this year, Oled Pro next year.

Since the N64 Nintendo liked to do things differently, cartridges rather than discs then the GameCube something that would look more at home in toys R us rather then an electronics shop together with the PS and Xbox. Then Wii a big success. This is where I think Nintendo wanted to keep the name Wii well into the future, rather than a name change with each new console. But after the disaster sales of the Wii u that idea was dropped.

The Switch name is now something Nintendo want to keep going. The Switch Oled is just a new variant of the successful Switch, the same but better. It's for anyone that wants one, but the production on the original Switch will finish, I would guess within 6 months, leaving the Oled as the standard Switch.

Next year along with Zelda botw, the Switch Oled Pro will make its debut. And I expect after that the Switch Lite will get a face lift.

So we are looking at the Switch being here for the foreseeable future in one form or another.

Re: Talking Point: Where Does The Switch OLED Announcement Leave The Rumoured Switch Pro?

zool

Answer this question and you know a little more about the Pro being on its way.

Would Nintendo release a Pro Switch in say six months knowing fans may buy the Oled version now, but really wanted a Pro model. Would they be that thoughtless to its customers? Yes I think so.

I think this Oled version is just an up dated version of the existing Switch, and Nintendo will stop production of the Basic Switch by the end of the year. So looking ahead to 2022 the Pro will surface with Zelda BotW, maybe a year from now.

Re: Soapbox: Could Switch OLED Actually Make A Reality Of Nintendo's Cheesy Tabletop Dream?

zool

The biggest group of gamers that play table top mode are those in the TV commercials. Nintendo seem to want to create the perfect 'Disneyesque' setting where Nintendo is all about families playing together or groups of 20 pluses having a wonderful wonderful time.

Mario is no longer a game you can play quietly on your own, you should have at least 3 others to make it fun fun fun.

Nintendo today are not the Nintendo of yesteryear. They are on a roll with the Switch Lite, but are leaving behind their oldies.

Re: Nintendo Confirms There's No CPU Or RAM Upgrade In The OLED Switch

zool

I think this Switch is aimed at new customers who want a better portable handheld device, those who are not impressed with the smaller Switch Lite.

But this announcement for many gamers is just disappointing. Nintendo has a new market to appeal to and that's what it's doing. Nintendo is firstly a business and if it though there was more money to be made in making playing cards, they would do that.

But to me the first rule of sales is to retain your existing customer base and don't ignore them for the new one. I have not bought a single Nintendo game this year and I have money to spend, But unfinished games and full priced ports I refuse to buy unless they are at a value for money price.

I play mostly on the TV and us gamers want the big ported games to look good on the TV. I don't think the new Switch does anything for the home console Switch gamer.

Re: Where To Pre-Order Nintendo Switch OLED Model

zool

Not sure, affordable, better screen and size. But certainly not worth the cost just to upgrade.

I guess within a year the old Switch will be phased out.

It does say something about how Nintendo seems to be accepting the limitations of the kind of games that will run well and look good on their console.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Switch OLED Model Looks Lovely, But May Also Disappoint

zool

'Switch will still be an exercise in compromise.'

Yes for me some game I just won't buy. A good example is the Witcher. Nintendo biased reviews will go down the 'i never though it possible we would see a game like this on the Switch, a great achievement. Other reviews say the game looks terrible. A Pro would have gone some way to improve third party games like Witcher. But maybe the reality of that it's the developer that wants their game on the Switch, it's more cash for them. Nintendo are not bothered about anything that could be competition to BotW.

Im not sure about the new Switch, a mostly play on a TV. But I can afford to upgrade, thats not an issue. But should i invest in a PS5, would my money be better spent.

I can see that Nintendo have a new customer base who play on the go and think of the Switch as a Handheld device only. Replacing their DS. Established gamers may need to look else where for the big games.

WHY IS EVERY THING MONEY ON THIS SITE EXPRESSED IN DOLLARS? Are you playing to a new market as well?

Re: UK Charts: Mario Golf Holds Onto First Place While Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Returns To The Top Ten

zool

No, BotW I played four years ago. AC is not my type of game and Mario Golf is a game I've wanted to buy on release date, but I didn't.

I agree with many reviewers and you tube postings about Nintendo releasing unfinished games and putting a full price tag on them.
It seemed to start with Kirby's Switch release and then many other games followed. The updated reviews for Kirby including the updated dlc were still critical, suggesting that they were mostly cosmetic.

The fact that BotW is in the charts shows that many new gamers have bought a Switch. Gamers that don't read reviews or understand or even care about Nintendo's new marketing strategy. Which is fine for them but the choice for Wii u owners and established Switch owners has diminished.

If Nintendo had announced a new package of dlc, now, with a total of 4 new courses and other stuff, I could buy into that, but, it could be another Kirby offering long after they had grabbed my cash.

Re: Here's How Nintendo Is Improving Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Over The Wii Original

zool

@Jey887 if the new release of Skyward Sword sells well at $60/£50 and meets Nintendo's expectations, then there are dozens of old Wii games that will receive the same treatment and will be with us for years.

People at an age that had a Wii may or may not want these games. My guess is that if they had enough new content there is an argument to bring some back, or sell them at a budget price if all the game gets is a facelift.

If younger gamers didn't play Wii games then every release will be like a new game. And I think this is the market Nintendo have in mind.

So no goal posts being moved. I just don't want old games at full price filling Nintendo's calendar, replacing new stuff.

Re: Nintendo Monthly Rewind Recaps E3 And A Busy June For Switch

zool

June is already a disappointment for me. I had been waiting for Mario Golf thinking that will keep my Switch alive for a good while. But it had the worst reviews for a big Nintendo game in a long while.

Next release is an old full price Zelda port this month.

These Rewind videos are smoke and mirror attempts to mask the poor showing of Nintendo games by adding third party releases.

Re: Here's How Nintendo Is Improving Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Over The Wii Original

zool

@Jey887 it's only a known quantity if you know about it, which you obviously do, so the suggestion would not necessarily concern you.

But since you are concerned it must be for others.
As for your comment about preaching and telling people what they should or shouldn't buy. You are telling me what I should or shouldn't say..... that sounds like preaching.

Re: Here's How Nintendo Is Improving Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Over The Wii Original

zool

@Jey887 read again, it is a suggestion, not an order.

If you read reviews the reviewer tells you to buy or avoid. Or they score and add comments as to whether you may like it or not. Look at NL's review of Legends of Mana to see my point.

Money and how someone spends theirs, waste it or gambles it away is not my concern. But if enough people who have already played the game, avoid these old ports when sold at full price or games released with content withheld, maybe Nintendo will take notice. And we will get a few more new games.

Re: Here's How Nintendo Is Improving Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Over The Wii Original

zool

Mario Golf, Mario Tennis, Splatoon, Arms. And others I don't recall unless I went back and watched the videos.

Someone on NL suggested it's a sales thing to generate interest in a game. So when sales of say, Mario Golf start to decline in 3 months, Nintendo release some DLC to regenerate interest in the game. And may be the same again in another 3 months.

They want us to pay full price now and wait for the DLC which we have already paid for. Instead of reviewers pointing this out in the reviews and being critical of Nintendo, they try and justify Nintendo's methods.

Re: Here's How Nintendo Is Improving Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Over The Wii Original

zool

Sometimes you have to vote with your wallet, and my money is staying in my wallet.

Not the best Zelda according to many fans. A facelift and some tweaks does not justify a full price tag. I've played the game on the Wii and paid full price then. Nintendo have had my money already. Ok a 33% discount and I might meet Nintendo half way but while they are cash grabbing, my money stays well out of their way.

According to many review, you tube channels, Nintendo are releasing games with a poor amount of content, but then adding dlc at a later date. While a year or so down the line the game may then be better value, what they offer at release is poor value. I agree.
Now that most of the WiiU games have been ported to the Switch, can we expect 2022 to be the year of full priced Wii games with a facelift.

Nintendo have their marketing eye on the younger newer Switch owner who probably parts with their cash more easily.

Don't fall into the trap of buying these old games if you have already played them on a previous Nintendo system, unless Nintendo has added more content to make it worth it, or they price it reasonably

Re: Nintendo Has Started A New 'Ask The Developer' Interview Series

zool

I would like to ask one developer, Nintendo, why do you take so long to release your games?

We all know that BotW2 is finished and ready to go, yet Nintendo are keeping it from us, if not for the Switch Pro then some sort of marketing plan.

They can give Skyward Sword a quick lick of paint charge us £50 as a pacifier. 🙃
