Re: You Don't Need To Play Persona 5 To Enjoy The Story In Persona 5 Scramble

veeflames

Lol well I'm playing Persona 5 now anyway. And it's a great game - heck, it could be one of my GOTYs for 2020 alongside Astral Chain! I wish I could take it on the go rather than have to sit in front of my TV to play it, though.

Yes, that was a blatant wish for Atlus to port Persona 5 to the Switch. Ah well, it doesn't matter, anyways. I'm kinda too far into Persona 5 already to even bother restarting on another system at this point. Unless they put that cloud save functionality into use (I don't know much about Atlus games to know if it's already put to use already, so pardon the ignorance šŸ˜‚)...

But yeah, Scramble was NEVER on my to-play list until I started playing Persona 5. Now I kinda want everything to do with Joker and Persona 5, so yep. I'll probably try out the demo when it releases.

Re: Poll: What Features Would You Want In A Switch 'Pro'?

veeflames

@sixrings ... yeah, the "options" schtick wouldn't work here. If a dockless Switch were to be released, players would want it to be as powerful as possible. If Nintendo delivered on that front, then that could possibly fragment the user base, which is what "options" shouldn't do.

If a dockless Switch with roughly the same power as the variants on the market right now were to be released? I mean, isn't that the original Switch already? The original Switch which gives you the "options" to either leave it in the dock, or take it on the go?

No one is arguing against options, but a docked-only Switch just goes against the idea of the Switch so much so that I don't think Nintendo is going down that route right now.

Re: Poll: What Features Would You Want In A Switch 'Pro'?

veeflames

@sixrings Yes, but I meant in concept. You could say the same thing for the Wii U, Wii, GameCube, and the N64.

Sure, the exclusives on Switch are incredible, but I think a lot of the appeal that results in the success of the Switch comes the simple fact that you can take your games, exclusives or not, on the go. I mean, why do you think we ask for ports of games all the time? We could play the games on other systems, probably with better visuals too, but no, we choose to play them on the Switch anyway.

At the end of the day, the concept of the Switch is a literal game changer for many, because it breaks the barrier that traditional consoles force on the player, which is to stay in front of the TV in order to play your games. A dock-only Switch will entirely miss the mark on that, and I don't think Nintendo wants that right now.

Re: Poll: What Features Would You Want In A Switch 'Pro'?

veeflames

A dock-only Switch would be kind of bizarre, honestly. Maybe as a potential SKU alongside a true Switch Pro that can still be played in handheld, maybe, but by itself called the "Pro?" Yeah, no. The point of the Switch is to be able to take your games on the go, and we all know the Switch Lite is a successor of sorts to the 3DS, so the Switch Lite not being able to dock doesn't really count. Especially since the Lite is just as powerful as the Switch. A docked only Switch is literally just the same as a PS4 or Xbox One, but with less prettier graphics and such (unless it has specs that would essentially make games unplayable on the Switch or Switch Lite), defeating the entire purpose of the Switch in the first place.

Honestly, the only thing I'd love to see in a Switch Pro is HDD support and moving games to and from from an external HDD to the microSD card easily so that it's like taking some of your games on the go and stuff.

Re: Astral Chain Director Says Nintendo Switch Exclusive "Sold Above Expectations"

veeflames

Wish I started playing the game earlier. I can't believe how fantastic the game is, and I'm only in the 3rd chapter or so.

I've literally stopped playing other games I've been enjoying such as Smash, A Hat In Time, Starlink, and Cadence of Hyrule for this. Seriously, it's that good of a game. I often wonder how long it took to develop the game in order to obtain the amount of polish and detail that's present in the game.

Re: Feature: Game Of The Decade Staff Picks - Fire Emblem: Awakening

veeflames

Well, I guess I have to admit that, even as someone who's not the biggest fan of Fire Emblem (don't get me wrong, I think they're fantastic games, but I'm not that big into SRPG games), Awakening was a masterpiece. The story, gameplay, and the OST? Easily one of the most memorable I've experienced on the 3DS.

I remember playing the game and then acting out attack animations out and talking about the game with my best friend back in the day. Not even my best game on the system, Smash Bros. for the Nintendo 3DS, could do that. So yeah, Awakening? Definitely a game that everyone should have for their 3DS.

Re: Japanese Charts: PokƩmon Stays In First Place For The Sixth Week, As Switch Sales Increase

veeflames

@Galenmereth Well, you didn't have to mention Dexit. Dexit was easily the biggest controversy regarding PokƩmon Sword and Shield and, as such, pretty much the first line of any criticism of the game pre- and post-launch included Dexit. Other things like subpar visuals and lack of originality came along, but still. Dexit was synonymous to SwSh criticism.

Yes, sales numbers aren't indicative of enjoyment, but it's still saying that despite the controversy, a lot of people still chose to buy the game regardless. And I'm sure a lot of them didn't regret their purchase.

Re: Japanese Charts: PokƩmon Stays In First Place For The Sixth Week, As Switch Sales Increase

veeflames

@Galenmereth Lol, I mean... that's only an assumption you can make on the interwebs. In the same vein, I can also assume that, since there aren't a whole lot of comments to prove otherwise (a whole lot meaning a number that matches the sales of the game), players liked the game. They chose not to write a review on it on the internet, move on, and wait for the next game in the series that they still would likely buy. I don't know how accurate this is, but it's an assumption I can make. Maybe even a safe assumption too, if I'm being honest.

You get the point.

At the end of the day though, if you look at the phenomenal sales numbers? It's definitely safe to say a WHOLE LOT of people didn't really care about Dexit or the other things that we were told to objectively hate and boycott the game for. Sure, it's PokƩmon when it all comes down to things, but maybe a lot of PokƩmon fans just wanna play and enjoy the games for themselves.

For what it's worth, the vast majority of the people I've talked to in actuality have praised the game, even when I bring up Dexit or something like that. So there's that. People are gonna enjoy the game, and some people aren't. That's fine, but let's not act like there's some sect of people who didn't enjoy the game AND are choosing to keep quiet about it and not even buy the next game.

Re: Random: Did Nintendo Just Show Off A New Switch Dock?

veeflames

Lol I’m sorry? Am I missing something? I’m not exactly sure this is clickbait, but maybe it’s because I saw that particular ā€œdockā€ during the Treehouse stream and was wondering what it was. Either way I think it’s an interesting thing to ponder about, even if it turns out not to be a dock. Not sure what the Home Screen bit was about, though. :shrugs:

It’s also funny, because for ā€œclickbait,ā€ a lot of users sure fell for it...

Re: Feature: The Final Wii U Games We'd Like To See On Switch In 2019

veeflames

Not exactly sure who's the one saying that ports take away development time from newer games. The idea people in favor of new games are putting out is that... well, they want new games because they presumably had a Wii U, played its games, and are ready for new experiences. But somehow it seems there's no ground for discussion here and the side (not all, of course) wanting ports are just coming off as trying to be superior and rather snobby. Jeez. Well, it's the internet, so...

I mean, I get that it's a business win for Nintendo, and that new people are getting to experience these ports for the first time, but I can definitely see why people (including me, admittedly. There's the "bias," I guess) would want Nintendo to focus on new games. 2019 is looking pretty great in terms of these new games, so that's excellent.

EDIT: For the record, games like TMS:FE died a horrible death on the Wii U lol (still got the game, though). That's another game that deserves a port to Switch, I guess.

Re: Feature: The Final Wii U Games We'd Like To See On Switch In 2019

veeflames

I'd rather have new games than Wii U ports since I really can't justify paying full price for games I've already played before. Despite Mario Kart 8 being my best MK game and one of my best games on the Wii U, I still haven't gotten around to getting MK8D, and I don't think I will for a long time. At the end of the day, I think I and many others just want Nintendo to focus on making new experiences for the Switch. Not sure why that's a bad thing.

With that said, I do approve of a 3D World port. That game is just amazing from start to finish and needs to be played by more people. It shouldn't even be said that the Switch is the perfect console for the game. It should be quite obvious. I wouldn't get the game (certainly not at full price), but if more people get to play that game, then I'm fine with it.

I'd also like to see a Star Fox Zero port. I really liked the game, and I'd like to see Nintendo give the game a second chance on Switch. Making motion controls optional and putting in an online mode would do wonders in changing public perception of the game, I'd wager. Maybe throw in new planets and all that and I'd actually be willing to pay full price for the game. Call it "Star Fox Zero: Point One" and it'll probably be my game of the year.

Re: Unlocking All Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Fighters Should Only Take A Couple Of Hours

veeflames

So what I'm seeing in this comment section is a bit of distraught towards unlocking characters rapidly, claims that the game is now "easy and casualized" without offering any evidence (no, unlocking characters more rapidly doesn't mean the game is easy. I'm not even sure how that correlation works).

This game is literally the biggest Smash game with more than 70 characters, tons of things to do (challenges and 9.0 Classic Mode, anyone?), and an expansive story mode. Plus plenty more. I'm pretty sure the challenge shouldn't come from some arbitrary length of time that it takes to unlock what, 66 characters? Besides, Sakurai has always appealed to hardcore Smash fans, with difficult challenges always present in many of his more recent games.

I think Smash Bros. Ultimate will be just fine. There's no "casualization" going on, and, no, spending hours upon hours unlocking every character isn't some some sort of supreme achievement. Nor is unlocking every stage or something like that.

Re: Nintendo Will Remove Smash Bros. Ultimate's Offensive Depiction Of Native Americans

veeflames

@brandonbwii "In Resident Evil 5 case it was problematic that a white man killed a bunch of Africans that were already zombies.

Fixed it for you.

"In the other games it didn’t matter because it was mostly white on white (who were also zombies, but whatever)"
So does that imply that white-on-white violence in video games is okay, but not white-on-black, especially since the "victims" in this case are already dead (and as such race should not even come into question)? I don't get it. We tell ourselves that race shouldn't matter but yet we try to shoehorn matters of race into situations where it shouldn't even exist.

Re: UK Gaming Magazines GamesMaster and GamesTM Set To Close Next Month

veeflames

I lived on GamesMaster magazines growing up. My brother wrote a letter to them once, and he even won the letter of the month award! We didn't receive our games, but I mean, to have our letters published was reward enough.
But yeah, print magazines aren't really pushing the envelope anymore, especially they are usually so late when it comes to gaming news or reviews. As much as I love GamesMaster, their shutting down is probably for the best.
Thanks for the times, GM!

Re: Switch eShop Maintenance Scheduled For This Evening, Nintendo Online Service Ready To Go

veeflames

@Realnoize That sounds very informative and all, but do we really know that’s the reason Nintendo is charging us? Has Nintendo made a statement like that? Charging in order to tackle cheating in games sounds like a very minuscule reason to do so.

Only time will tell if NSO profits do go towards anti-cheat and the elimination of lag/disconnects (which I never really had a major issue with since I was playing online for free), though. I have a feeling these issues will still persist, but I’m just basing that feeling on experience.

Re: Switch eShop Maintenance Scheduled For This Evening, Nintendo Online Service Ready To Go

veeflames

@Travan I actually agree with you on that front. If something is finite, then it would be a terrible idea not to affix a premium on it. But some people unrealistically want these finite things to be free.

But this is online gaming we're talking about; a very trivial thing compared to water or healthcare or free education. Like I said earlier, I reluctantly pay for these online services, still not being sure of why they aren't free. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to sound entitled, but I'm just saying that if a mode was presented in a package I paid for, that mode shouldn't be behind any sort of paywall. Sure $20/year is cheap as hell. But still.

Re: Switch eShop Maintenance Scheduled For This Evening, Nintendo Online Service Ready To Go

veeflames

@Travan Well, just because other consoles make you pay for online gaming doesn't really mean it should be universally. In late 2016, I brought Overwatch for my PS4. But I couldn't even go into the training mode unless I was a PS+ subscriber. So here I was, with a game I paid for but couldn't even use because the whole game was behind two whole paywalls.

Either way, online gaming should be free across all platforms. P2P online apprarently doesn't cost a dime, so at the end of the day console makers want to make money off separate entities (like cloud saves and shareplay and whatnot) by coupling the online service to online gaming. I just have to pay the fee because I want to play online, but I don't enjoy paying such a fee. Especially when I don't think the fees are justified.

Re: Switch eShop Maintenance Scheduled For This Evening, Nintendo Online Service Ready To Go

veeflames

@Travan again, that's not how paying for games work (or should work, at the very least). It's just like saying you pay for an online multiplayer game and then pay extra money to access it's offline features. If a game contains X number of features, as long as I paid for the game they should be all accessible without a paywall.

But yeah. I'll be paying for the subscription anyway (not today, though), but as long as online gaming is included in a game, it should be free. Steam offers free online gaming. Should they begin charging too?

Re: Switch eShop Maintenance Scheduled For This Evening, Nintendo Online Service Ready To Go

veeflames

@Travan TVs aren't designed to receive a signal right off the box, so cable/satellite is pretty much essentially if you NEED, not want, to use the TV to watch shows. Netflix is entirely optional, and your TV doesn't come with Netflix nor need it to function correctly, so that's not a good example, either. As for a new car, I believe everyone comes with a radio/CD player. It'll be weird if you had to pay a premium just to use the radio that came with the car every time you started it, don't you think? I don't know much about Sirius and the likes, but I'm assuming those are entirely optional.

I'm sorry, but when I brought Splatoon 2, the online mode was part of the game. Sure, it's optional, but so is every other single mode in the game. I didn't pay for a game just to access the single player mode and then pay a separate fee for the online multiplayer mode. The fact of the matter is that the online mode came with the game, and since I already paid for the game I should be able to access it. It doesn't matter whether it's "optional" or not. It's already in the game.

Of course, it's just not Splatoon 2. It's every single game with an online mode (well, except FTP ones). If the online modes we're separate from the main game (which would be grossly inconvenient), then sure. You have to pay a separate fee for it, I guess. But I'm talking about something that was already included in the base game to begin with. Mind you, I'm not even complaining. I'm just saying that online gaming should be free. Nothing else.

Re: Switch eShop Maintenance Scheduled For This Evening, Nintendo Online Service Ready To Go

veeflames

@Travan "Gaming online is not a human right."

I get what you're trying to say, it I think it's absurd that, even after paying for a game, I still have to pay something else to overcome a paywall that blocks essentially what was a feature of the game. In that sense, it's kind of a right. A gamer's right. A consumer's right. I paid for a game, so I should be able to access its features (of course, there's DLCs and season passes and the likes, but they're arguably different).

Re: Wireless NES Controllers Won't Work With Other Games On Nintendo Switch

veeflames

To be fair, the NES controllers don't have the right amount of buttons so that it can work in most Switch titles. I could see support for the controller on a title-by-title basis (such as in Smash Bros. Ultimate), but I'm not holding my breath.

Not that it matters to me, anyway. It's steep price tag means I'm never looking in the direction of buying these controllers.

Re: Your Nintendo Switch Cloud Save Files Will Be Lost If Your Online Subscription Expires

veeflames

@SheldonRandoms Yep, although there might be an inconvenient possibility if the save data is deleted. Suppose one breaks his Switch just after his/her sub runs out. If the save data stored in the cloud is in fact deleted, then there’s no way for the person to get it back. Welp.

I’m not expecting them to hold my cloud saves forever, though. Again, if you stop paying for a service, you lose access to the service anyway.

Also, soda?

Re: New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe Coming to Nintendo Switch in January

veeflames

Easily one of the two best games in the New series, alongside the original NSMB. But now it's a port. Oh well.

Honestly, though. If you haven't played it, I highly encourage you to do so . Sure, it looks like the same since the 2006 game, but the level design and tight controls are on point in NSMBU, more so than the other games.

Re: Professor Layton And The Curious Village Will Be Released On Mobile In The West

veeflames

Wonder if it's going to be free-to-play, and then beyond that I shudder to think about how that's going to look like. Something like this:

"Pay $X.XX to unlock 10 hint coins!"
"Watch an ad after this puzzle to keep playing!"

Of course, it could be an app you have to pay for, but it seems after Super Mario Run, people aren't as keen for paid apps as they are with free ones. I'd say their loss, but oh well.

Re: Nintendo Spends Big On Television Advertising In Month Of August To Fend Off Spider-Man

veeflames

Huh? Isn't it a logical fallacy to assume Nintendo spent that much in advertising just because of Spider-Man? I'm not seeing the link in any way.
On topic, I'm pretty stoked for Spider-Man. It's pretty much guaranteed to be my holiday PS4 game, but I'm just worried Smash Bros. would take up so much of my time anyway. Not to mention I STILL have to finish Horizon Zero Dawn to clear up some of that backlog.
