As grateful as we are that Atlus decided to release Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers on the Nintendo Switch, we can't help but wonder how new players will cope with the story in this upcoming action-RPG spin-off if they've never played the mainline entry before.
Fortunately, it shouldn't be a problem. Speaking to the Japanese magazine Nintendo Dream recently, the game's producer Daisuke Kaneda said users didn't need to play Persona 5 or 'P5R' on the PlayStation 4 to understand what was going on – further explaining how the anime and manga provided enough backstory (thanks for the translation, Nintendo Everything):
Yes, I think those who have not played ‘P5’ or ‘P5R’ will be able to enjoy the story. ‘P5’ has expanded into anime and manga and such, so it’s not just limited to the game. If players have a general understanding of the story through those mediums, I think they’ll be able to enjoy this sequel even more.
Persona 5 Scramble launches on the Switch later this month in Japan. Right now, there's no word on a western release. Earlier this week we also got a flashy new trailer for the game and there'll be a demo made available on the Japanese Switch eShop next week, on 6th February.

Well, it's really the least they could do since they're not porting the original game for some reason.
Also, it's kind of twisted how we're meant to play another game on another platform or watch an anime series or whatever just to get a grasp of this world. Is this FFXV all over again?
I mean, if this is a sequel and we're meant to know at least something about the world before playing, like he seems to suggest, then what's the point of putting it on Switch?
Let's hope it's not too much of a hurdle for newcomers. 🤞🏻
Well no but I want to play the 5th persona game. And so do millions of nintendo fans I imagine.
Cool but the anime is terrible
Of course they'd say that. They have a game to sell.
How have we not gotten a Persona 5 port yet, like everyone has been begging for it since Joker was announced for Smash.
@patbacknitro18 Sony say no
As soon as Nintendo puts Mario on Playstation, you can have Persona 5.
I'mma have to press X to doubt on that one. I can't realistically see how this is meant to be a canon, legitimate sequel to the first game yet Switch owners simply don't get the first game but we can still somehow understand everything?
So sure, we CAN play this game without having played the original, we certainly can. But does that mean we SHOULD play this game without having played the original? That's the question here. It'd be different if it was a super chibi/deformed non-canon spin-off like Q1/Q2 and doesn't connect to the original games in any way and is meant to be a what-if joke of a game. But this does connect to the original and we're supposed to take it seriously. Joker in Smash Bros is certainly starting to feel like some kind of twisted joke right about now.
Not everyone wants to buy a whole new console for one game, so this just sucks no matter how they to try to spin it. Even if we had to lose SMT V exclusivity to get P5 on Switch, fine. More people to play both games. But Atlus is just blind to their own poor business choices it seems.
This game is a sorry excuse for joker in smash. It’s a joke. No reason for persons 5 not to be on Nintendo and no reason for scramble not to be announced for western release. This game is some random non persona game to justify joker in smash. Also SMT is all over Nintendo but they’re afraid to push atlas to push the main persona games again on switch.
I will not buy this game until or unless you give us a real Persona RPG on Switch.
Releasing this game on Switch without P5 was an obvious and deliberate snub. And annoyingly, I am sure that when it doesn't sell as well on Switch, some idiotic corporate type will cite its lower sales and say something of EA level stupidity like "See, Nintendo gamers aren't interested in Persona games!"
@Mikeloto31
You know what's funny? People are claiming Byleth's inclusion is a blatant advertisement yet he/she was added after Three Houses came out and made record sales so it's more of a celebration than an ad. They're a loved Nintendo character.
Meanwhile Joker is from a game that you can't even play on this system unless you want to get a Dynasty Warriors button masher spin-off title that plays nothing like the actual game he comes from. So if you want the real game get a PS4. When you take that into consideration who's the real blatant, shameless ad here?
@Heavyarms55
Their loss I say. We'll be getting Shin Megami Tensei V, Devil Survivor 3, and an improved, proper crossover with Tokyo Mirage Sessions 2 if that happens so I see this as an absolute win.
Too bad, it's P5 I want on Switch, not this "thing". Until such a time, I'll pass. Hyped for SMT5 though btw. I hope it tops both SMT4 titles on 3DS, I loved those.
Lol well I'm playing Persona 5 now anyway. And it's a great game - heck, it could be one of my GOTYs for 2020 alongside Astral Chain! I wish I could take it on the go rather than have to sit in front of my TV to play it, though.
Yes, that was a blatant wish for Atlus to port Persona 5 to the Switch. Ah well, it doesn't matter, anyways. I'm kinda too far into Persona 5 already to even bother restarting on another system at this point. Unless they put that cloud save functionality into use (I don't know much about Atlus games to know if it's already put to use already, so pardon the ignorance 😂)...
But yeah, Scramble was NEVER on my to-play list until I started playing Persona 5. Now I kinda want everything to do with Joker and Persona 5, so yep. I'll probably try out the demo when it releases.
It will sell better on switch. Just like how a P5 port would have. Their loss.
So apparently every franchise has to be remade as a Dynasty Warriors clone. I can't wait for Animal Crossing Warriors. Seeing Isabelle kill 20 critters in a single blow will be so sweet!
“You don’t need to watch the original Star Wars trilogy or any of the movies before it to like The Last Jedi—it is a masterpiece on its own. The series has cartoons, books, video games, and Wikipedia anyway, so no worries about not watching them and please watch The Last Jedi.”
thank you but i will wait before playing P5 on Switch before make a decision about this spin-off
@Yogsoggoth totally wrong analogy.
If it was God Of War you'd be right, but not only does Sony not own the Persona IP, but Atlus doesn't even have an exclusive deal.
So nope, you're comparing carbonara to a bicycle, as a Polish grumpy man recently said.
This seems kind of similar to Trails of Cold Steel 3 coming to Switch but not 1 and 2. Sure, you can play P5S without playing the base P5 game, but if you choose to go back and play the original you'll inevitably have some story content, character arcs and reveals and plot twists spoiled for you since you already played the sequel.
How come there’s a fair bit of persona 5 content on switch yet the main game isn’t on the console, seems bizarre to me. I have no idea who joker is, having 5 on the switch would make all this content more appealing/relevant to me
@HammerKirby
I do have a PS4 and the game, but it’s the principle that I stand for here, said principle being that in order to enjoy the franchise, you either accept that if you don’t have a PS4 you can only get part of the experience on the Switch, but if you do have a PS4, the original, the revamp, and sequel are all there.
@Aurumonado Would many Switch owner even know what Persona 5 is if Joker wasn't in Smash?
Y’all totally should play it though. Remember, it’s on PS Now so anybody here with a PC can play it for a subscription fee. It’s a lot cheaper than buying a PS4!
@HammerKirby It's mostly people who have become accustomed to having JRPGs on a portable console and they want one of the best ones from the recent console generation on a portable console.
I've beaten the game on PS4 and would still like a Switch port for the portability and convenience.
Just play the game.
If people have time to play nonsense like RigFit RPG at home they can find time to play P5. Play it while running in place 🙄
Same way have all this extra cash to replay old games. Skip a few $60 rehash on Switch and you have the money for a 2nd console
@clvr It's not that crazy. Some people own both a PS4 and Switch. They played Persona on PS4, but prefer playing on Switch when possible. It's on Switch for those people, or people who are curious about the style of game but don't care that much about story.
@Agramonte dude you say that every time and every time someone has to repeat it to you: I have a PC and a Switch, I'm not buying a useless third platform to play one game or to make you happy.
Certainly I don't have to play it and they don't have to put it on Switch for me or for others, I'm not a kid; but you don't have to tell people what to do from your high horse on every comment section. Jeez.
NOPE. Not playing this without an actual P5 game on Switch!
@turntSNACO yeah I can understand and get behind that, but, between this and Joker in Smash, it's kinda trolly the way they're handling P5 content on Switch.
@MortalKombat2007 None of them. They only care because Smash.
Get over it. Play it on PS Now or buy a PS4 instead of paying $60 for old games. Sakurai plays PS4. Get over it.
@MortalKombat2007
Oh you're right - none of us use the internet.
@clvr If you have a PC you could have played it on PS Now for $10 since last November. I did the 7 day trial and the service works perfectly for a turn based jRPG
No difference than me reading the same 2 excuses here over and over again. That go out the window once convenient.
People acting as if they're owed Persona 5 on the Switch is funny asf. Persona 5 is an exclusive, just like Persona 5 Royal is an exclusive. You can't play Astral Chain on PS4, why? Because it's a Switch Exclusive. You need to get that through your head(And no it won't sell better on the Switch, Persona's main audience is and always has been the Playstation)
@Agramonte yeah I could, but that's not the point: again you're showing your tendency to tell people what to do, and that is exactly why it's not the same.
I mean, you just called not having a PS4 an "excuse" not to play P5? Are you serious? So anyone who doesn't have time/money/interest/whatever to buy/into buying a PS4 is putting up excuses? Do you even read what you're writing?
As I've already stated, I'm not saying they have to put it on Switch, it'd be childish, I'm just saying that you should stop dictating what people should do and judging them from your high horse. What did Ring Fit Adventure have to do with any of this?
@Zeraki I agree actually. I would love a Switch port for portability. But I have accepted at this point that it's probably not going to happen.
Oh, so people complaining about SwSh are just an annoying vocal minority who disturbs you from celebrating the game and will not affect game sales. But now, when we are in p5, it is different all of a sudden, and they will never have their great sales. You get what you ask for, yaknow
Not touching this till we get P5R on Switch. Seriously, ATLUS, do you hate money?
@Feguy doesnt matter what sony said.Sony doesn't own Persona series rights.Atlus have.If they want, they can bring it very easily.I still think it will be announced after P5 Royale comes out.
Also known as please buy our game even though there is no way to play the first on on a Nintendo platform. I refuse to do extended media to follow a plot for a game. If I can’t get the plot via the game I’m out. Learned my lesson from dragon age and mass effect.
I own p5 on PS4 but it is still in the shrinkwrap. I’d rather play persona 5 on my preferred system the Switch and so long as I can’t, I’ll be waiting for this spin off sequel to drop significantly in price/ buy it used to deny the publisher a sale and I’ll just get SMT V day one.
In other news: new Mario Golf announced! Although you don’t need to have played Odyssey for it to make sense, you will need to have seen every episode of the Super Mario Super Show and read all the Coro Coro Mario-Kun manga.
Having a feeling persona 5 the real version may come to switch SMH.. just a thought. Playing on my ps4 but won't mind having that huge game on the go.
"You don't need to play P5" is not the same thing as "you can catch up with other media". The first statement implies I need no preparations, the second - that I'm required to spoil P5 to myself in some way if I want to enjoy Scramble. It's one or the other, Atlus!
I'm okay with P5 not coming to Switch, but I'm sick and tired of Atlus pretending they're not baiting us. NOT EVERYONE has the time and money to support two consoles. Stop acting like owning a PS4 is some sort of entry fee to the "real gamer" world.
If I understand correctly, you don't need to play the game, but you need to watch the anime or read the manga....
Not interested. When they do things well, we'll support.
I guess hes right, you dont need to play P5 to understand because you can watch the anime or read the manga.
You'd have to do at least one of above regardless!
I wish I had known that P5 was playable on PS Now a few months ago (it leaves in a few days). That way, I could have played the game without needing to buy new hardware (except for a PS4 controller). This whole discussion would be moot for me if I did that, now I'm going into P5S blind.
I'm just gonna go ahead and NOT play this game until I've gotten a chance to play P5. If Atlus ports Royal to the Switch, they'll get my money. This one? Not until I've played the prequel...
Atlus: Oh, is that a wound? It would be a shame if I...rubbed salt in it.
P5 coming to the system is less of a problem to me than the fact that this game is a completely different genre than the original, with musou gameplay that I personally find soulless and boring.
why won't Atlus just come out and just say Persona 5 is never coming to the Switch and stop giving these political bs statements because it's still giving Nintendo fans hope P5 will come to Switch
I love Persona games an all, but I want my Dragon Quest Warriors 1 & 2 game before I would even consider Scrabble. If you’re going to get a Warriors game get one that you really want because if you’ve seen one you’ve seen them all with just a tiny bit of variation. Not to mention the fact that there is no Persona 5 on the Nintendo Switch. This is a hard pass. I only have time for about one game a month now. So get it together SquarEnix and get it together Atlus.
I'm not into turn based RPGs,so watching the anime to know the story was actually the best option for me.Heck, the plot was so good that it even made me watch the Persona 3 and 4 adaptations.So now i also know the characters from those games that are guests in BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle and miis in Smah.
As someone who has never played a Persona game, I have zero interest in jumping into a series on what appears to be a side-game sequel of the 5th game in the series (that's also a different genre than the main ones, from what I've read).
This statement from the producer makes it worse for someone like me. I don't want to track down, buy and read/watch the manga/anime to be able to try this.
I guess it's a good thing I play across multiple platforms, then.
Poor Atlus hasn't made a good impression on Switch, though, between Tokyo Censored Sessions and Persona 5 Scramble: LOL Watch the Anime to Understand Our Game, Scrub. Let's hope the highly anticipated SMT5 breaks that streak.
It's so weird, because P5 Royal would have been the PERFECT opportunity to re-release the game on a different console to introduce Nintendo fans to the cast of P5 before the release of Scramble.
Although, personally, I am really looking forward to the Switch version of Persona 5 Scramble (barring any major performance issues).
Why would I support a company that barely supports the Switch?
@clvr Apparently it is an exclusive for Playstation regardless of the fact that Atlus is owned by Sega. The franchise has been exclusive since the mid 90s. So, if you all really want it, Nintendo should offer to port over an exclusive to Playstation in exchange. If you don't want to send Mario which would be a perfect fit for the PS4, then maybe Xenoblade Chronicles 1 and 2. Or Octopath Traveller. Imagine that at 60 fps and displayed at 1080 or 4K.
I would suggest Breath of the Wild, but we have enough open world games already.
Luckily I am getting a PS4 for The FFVII remake. So will get Persona 5 royal after I’m done with that. Unless of course a Nintendo direct announces a Persona 5 release first
@Cotillion Each game has his own story and cast of characters unrelated to each other.All they have in common is that they can use personas and live in the same universe(the casts of persona 3,4,and 5 met in two 3DS spin-offs)
Honestly hard disagree
I wouldn't recommend anyone watch the anime for understanding P5's plot because it butchered a lot of the more impactful moments from the main story and even made some of the characters a lot more unlikable
This will be interesting if this game outsell P5R with the dual release on PS4 and Switch. P5R hasn’t been on the Japanese charts in a while
@clvr You said you had a PC and gave you an option that does not need a PS4. Hell, it is even available on PS3. Can buy a $18 PS3 copy and download RPCS3... and see if your rig can run it. Love it how when people were defending Astral Chains by telling Platinum fans to "just get a Switch" and be done with it. All was fine... But now it is "dictating". It is a post on the internet that you can just skip over - nobody can tell anyone what to do in this format. You do not see the irony of a community always claiming the convenience of playing on the GO for not owning any other hardware but then gush over a game that is made to only play at home?... I do, that is why I pointed it out.
@Randomname19 Final Fantasy is that way. But this seems to be the equivalent of SE releasing a FFVII spinoff sequel without also releasing FFVII to go with it.
I just have no interest in trying out a spinoff sequel, especially when the producer is pointing people at the manga/anime to get the story rather than just releasing the original game (that everyone seems to want).
I'm not in the camp of being mad or bitter that they're not releasing P5 on Switch, just from the viewpoint of someone who has zero experience with Persona, the way they're doing this makes it very unappealing.
At this point, I'll probably play P5 Royale on my brother's PS4, but I'm still buying this one on Switch.
Still feel like Atlus is leaving a ton of money on the table by not releasing P5 Royale on Switch. C'mon, they release P4 Golden on the Vita for goodness sake. 🤦
@BlueBlur101
Meanwhile the manga isn't even finished. So both sources this producer is telling us to cite are flawed....joy. May as well buy a whole new console for one game, right? But that can't be what they want, nonono....
It’s good to know that I can play persona 5S without having played persona 5R since I’ve already played the original persona five.
I will probably end up getting persona five R anyway and I will definitely get persona 5S.
@Dwarfette It shouldn’t come as a surprise that you lose access to some games if you choose only to play on handheld. Just as you lose access to some games if you only play on home consoles.
In some ways it’s more out of keeping for persona 5S to release on PS4. Historically the main series has released exclusively on PlayStation and the spin-off have released exclusively on Nintendo handheld.
Ah it seems Atlus doesn't want my money oh well.
Great, now bring this to the west.
@Yogsoggoth dude I'm sorry but it just doesn't work that way, there's no exchange to be had.
If Atlus wants to put its games on Switch, XBox, PC or whatever they can, it's their game; Sony doesn't have anything to do with this game in particular. If we were talking about Days Gone or Uncharted they would, but this is a game developed by Atlus and published by SEGA.
So, if anything, following your rules would mean that Nintendo would have to give something in return to SEGA/Atlus, not Sony.
But then again, there's no such thing as an "equivalent exchange" or anything like that.
@Agramonte again, it seems you're still hung up on the wrong things: this was never about how I can play the game but you're still trying to tell me what to do; also, I've never said "just get a Switch" to anyone and AC has nothing to do with this, so I don't know why you're telling me that. If you wanna talk AC, join me on the Push Square news related to TW101, where I'm talking about the game with others.
I said that I have a problem with you telling people what to do with your condescending tone, the rest you made up. 🤷🏼♂️
Most forget SMT is also not Nintendo exclusive. SMT 3 Nocturne has not come to Nintendo and it's only available on PS2. I don't see why P5 can't be available on both. It's a win win for everyone involved. SMT5 and P5 on both systems!
@clvr I'm just following the example of entitled port beggar. Imagine Breath of the Wild on PS4. 60 fps and true hd graphics. Imagine Link's Awakening without slow down and that silly blur effect. Imagine Mario Maker with a real online service. Or Splatoon with actual voice chat. Nintendo really should consider porting their games to PS4. They would reach a larger audience and wouldn't suffer from lower textures and lag.
@GameOtaku Like I've been saying. Nintendo should bring Mario to the other console now that they've brought him to mobile. It's a win win for all consumers. We can play Mario on our console of choice and not worry about joy on drift.
@GameOtaku
Agreed. Though it's likely they consider the original SMT 1, 2, and SMT IF(the game that inspired Persona because it was the first SMT game set in a highschool rather than a war) to be part of their argument because those were Super Famicom, followed by SMT Devil Survivor, Strange Journey, 4 and Apocalypse all being 3DS games meanwhile Persona has always been PS only.
TMS#FE is an outlier because it contains Nintendo's Fire Emblem IP so it has to be exclusive.
Otherwise, yeah it just seems Atlus--or the higher ups within it seem to have a one-track mentality of "one franchise = one system" and it sucks for the rest of us who only know about it through Smash but don't have the money or interest in a whole new console for one game. With Banjo-Kazooie it's excusable because MS owns them directly and they aren't dangling BK in our faces with light teases every two seconds. But nope, TMS MC has Joker costume, P5S, Persona Q2 3DS, and now they're telling us to just watch an anime/manga. Like bruh, if I have to cite an outside source to understand a game your story is objectively flawed as it stands. But regardless, yes. I'd like for all SMT/Persona games on all systems--even Xbox if possible. Let more people experience both titles without this foolish console divide.
@Yogsoggoth oh ok, so you said something that doesn't make sense and now that I've shown you you backtrack and make stuff up. Ok 👍🏻
I won't buy it unless they port Persona 5. That's the game I want.
Eh, I played 5 and may get R. I love musou games so I would get this if it was Animal Crossing Warriors
@progx I heard Royale was a bit of a let down for what it added compared to Fes and Golden. Fes was also a full priced re-release, but with all the extras, and basically another full game it was totally worth it. Royale apparently has less new content than golden for 20 bucks more
May I remind everyone that Persona 5 is also on Playstation 3, which I hear is an above serviceable port, and the PS3 is dirt cheap these days, for a console anyways. So there is no excuse to not to play Persona 5. As for me, I have a stable job so I will be buying Persona 5 Royal when it is released on PS4, as well as Persona 5 Scramble. I am also hoping for a Persona 5 Arena as well.
@MortalKombat2007
The problem with that is that the PS3 is so old that there is no guarantee of finding a functional one. That aside, people prefer playing these lengthy RPGs on the Switch for the convenience factor because not everyone has the time to sit in front of a TV (that they may share with other people btw) and play a game for hundreds of hours. Meanwhile the Switch lets you play games anywhere with no restrictions whatsoever. So it's simply a matter of people who want to play P5 despite having busy lives. None of this would even be an issue if Atlus quit drip-feeding us Persona-adjacent content on this platform but not giving us the real things as if we're mice in a Skinner Experiment Box. https://www.simplypsychology.org/skinner%20box.jpg
If they just quit teasing us with this franchise then nobody would care. But it's like they're goading us into a buying a new system for one game and that's the issue here.
@Yogsoggoth
Is it really that hard a concept to grasp? Mario is first party Nintendo! SMT/Persona is a third party series that is not owned by any console! Mario is not going to jump to Sony and Uncharted isn't coming to switch due to them being first party. But Atlus games can be ported to any they so choose to since they aren't reliant on only one console.
@JR150
Honestly if Sakurai had chosen Flynn from SMT4 or Jack Frost (the company mascot) none of this P5 porting business wouldve really happened outside of P5S. As you are saying it's like they are just teasing a port of 5! If it's not coming to switch at all they would've said something by now! Are they honestly that dumb to just keep poking the hornets nest? Sounds like a good way to lose their SMT fans as well since nothing about it has been said in nearly 4 years!
@GameOtaku
Yeah it really sucks. Though I would laugh my butt off if the SMT V protagonist gets revealed as one of the characters. It'd make sense because that game needs all the advertising it can get and I do see the game releasing in Japan by 2021 at least. Especially if he had multiple demons to Switch between which is what some people wanted to Joker to do with Personas in Smash. It'd come full circle and remind everyone where the franchise came from.
@JR150 Um, that is what EBay Descriptions, Returns and Paypal Disputes are for. You can still find a functioning PS3 with barely any problems as long you're are not stupid. It is not like that the PS3 had very common occurrence of hardware failure like the 360 (i.e. Red Ring of Death)
Also, why would someone buy an RPG they clearly don't have time. Persona 5 takes time to play, so I would argue that if you can play a lengthy RPG, you have free time somewhere in your schedule.
Sure, it would be cool to have Persona 5 on the Swtich but every mainline game in the series has always been exclusive to a Playstation console despite spinoff releases of Persona 4 Arena on the 360 and Persona Q on the 3DS, not to mention guest appearances in Blazblue: Cross Tag Battle. A Switch port of Persona 5 or any mainline game is improbable.
@MortalKombat2007
Because the Switch, by definition is simply more convenient since you can take it anywhere even if you have to work a lot. It's simply better for busy people who still want to game.
And I'm aware. But that's exactly why people are upset. Nintendo systems are getting loads of Persona-related content but not the actual Persona games. Q/Q2 on 3DS, Blazblue Tag contains P4A characters on Switch, P5 Scramble on Switch, Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore contains a Joker costume for the protagonist Itsuki Aoi. And biggest of all is that Joker is in Super Smash Bros with content from P3/4/5 including Mii costumes, a whole stage dedicated to each game, and songs with remixes. It all just feels like a massive ad to get Switch owners to buy an entirely new system to experience this one game and that's what people are upset about. If it wasn't for all of the things I just mentioned then nobody would care.
Look at it this way, sure Banjo-Kazooie isn't on Switch. But is Rare/Microsoft teasing us with loads of side games and spin-off content in order to push us to buy an Xbox for this game? No. They're not. Banjo is in Smash and that's it. It doesn't feel like a massive, slimy ad that makes Switch owners unhappy. It's as if Atlus is trying to tease us into buying a PS system even if that's not what we want and it just isn't cool. They need to either port the game or quit spamming the Switch with not-Persona stuff already because it's become annoying to see ads for a game we have no access to.
Personally I'd rather have all SMT/Persona games on all platforms--even Xbox so that everyone could play all the games and experience the main series of SMT along with Persona. But I guess that's asking too much.
@Ryall I know all that, and believe me, I would've been 100% okay with this! Before Switch I only owned a PC (a toaster, more like) and there has always been a multitude of games I wanted to play but couldn't. It's far from my first time in this position.
The one, ONE thing that baffles me right now is P5S isn't a pure spinoff. It's a sequel, and it's apparently close enough in continuity to P5 that we need an anime to fully understand the game we ARE getting. And the anime isn't even legally available in my country, so there's that X"D Of course there's VPN, and there are illegal ways, but that is a lot of steps Atlus recommends I do before I can enjoy the game. Like a day 1 patch, only I have to code it myself and then install manually by putting files in the correct folders. I just don't think it's worth it, and I can't be the only person who came to that conclusion (for whatever reason). Just... I don't know. I have two degrees in marketing but I have no idea who this game is supposed to be for. It's a spinoff, but also a connected sequel, in a wildly different genre, and both games are on mutually exclusive platforms. And also an anime. WHO is this FOR? Old fanbase? New? The five Persona fans who own both consoles and ALSO don't mind a genre jump? That is a very specific target, if it's what they have in mind.
So will the Jp version have an option for English subtitles?
Will this be worth getting off the Jp eshop?
....I personally don't mind that we are getting this game. After all, Atlus could've just chosen to offer us nothing.
This comment reminds me of PS4 minority that wanted Astral chain, but Nintendo fans have been whining about Persona 5 for years now.
At this point, Atlus should just port P5 over under a different name and call it a "spinoff" so Sony doesn't try and get them
I can't wait for this game to come out
@Big-Pepsi
The difference is that Nintendo owns Astral Chain. Sony does not own Persona.
yeah guys its a whole new story that got nothing to do with the real p5 game. So ur free to go and play it and stop complaining.
I really wonder why they refuse to bring 4 Golden and 5 to switch, do they not like huge returns for minimal work?(with 4 specifically)
@GAMER1984dude2 and on ps4 which l have
@GAMER1984dude2 l agreed because he did said he plays a lot of games on the ps console.
Also how old is the banjo games anyways. i never even heard of that game in my life, seen the character before but not the game.
@JR150
Until I see a main series persona on any other platform, i'll think otherwise.
@clvr You having a conversation with yourself now 😂.
Again... What you should do is take all those options I gave you and "just play P5" (no need to be on PS4 - PC is fine also) and take your own advice and give up trying to dictate how people write a comment on the Internet.
You seem intent on focusing on the wrong thing (and futile) for someone who claims really wants to play P5 🙄
@Agramonte "You seem intent on focusing on the wrong thing (and futile) for someone who claims really wants to play P5 🙄"
Sorry, I was trying to make some sense out of all the seemingly random stuff you threw at me, including Ring Fit Adventure, Astral Chain and fanboys being fanboys with their exclusives 😘
Btw, I get your point: if you really wanna play the game there's a way, but unfortunately I don't have a PS4 and a PS3 anymore, and I'd like to play them legally so I'd rather not go through emulators and such.
My original points, though, are:
1) it makes no sense to publish a sequel/spin-off/theheckisthat on a console that doesn't have the original game, because it's so different gameplay-wise and the story is gonna be really hard to get into.
2) you seem to appear in every one of these comment sections mocking people who don't have multiple consoles with your condescending tone. That's really it.
I appreciated you giving me all the options at my disposal, really I did, if you just did that you'd be a lot nicer.
I'm nobody to tell you what to do and how to act, and you'll certainly ignore me (and rightfully so), but I wanted to let you know that you can be nice and helpful if you want.
Hell, I'm such a jerk myself sometimes and then I realize it and try to avoid it.
And with this, I'd like to cease fire and wish you a good night/day. 👍🏻
@clvr Copyrights is always a concern. Why I made sure to suggest you buy a new PS3 copy and there already 1 round for "fair use"

I can honestly tell you I was not trying to do that. But obviously I'll have to review the tone moving forward (well this came after today's Persona 5 Scramble post - so that one does not count until I check it 😅) . Yeah, have a good one.
@Octoguy irrelevant?
@Aurumonado then buy a ps4. Also you still need to know the entite persona story to understand the characters.
