I’ve seen about half of Blather’s collection, and another 1/3 would be relatively easy, but some of the collection would be more difficult. Vitruvian Man is rarely shown to the public because of its fragility, and Beauty Looking Back is also not regularly shown. He must have lucked out with the timing on both of those. The terra-cotta soldier, Olmec colossal head, and the King Kamehameha statue are also located in more out-of-the way places. So kudos to him, while most of the art is located in Western Europe, Japan, and North America, some are more difficult to see.
Maybe everyone knows this but me, but I just read Natsume’s Wikipedia page and apparently the Natsume that publishes this game isn’t the same Natsume that publishes Harvest Moon, and the “Atari” in Natsume Atari has nothing to do with the Atari everyone knows.
I prefer the NES version of Super Mario Bros, and the Super NES version of the rest. The controls of the Super NES SMB feel more floaty. Also, and this is going to sound weird, the soundtrack of the SNES version has a note that always sounded like someone yawning to me? I don't know what the sound actually is, but I find it distracting. I think this is just me being weird.
@Kazman2007 But these games are available to everyone? Anyone who wants them, at any rate. And I wasn't aware libraries considered themselves to be in the business of historic preservation. When they have a lot of books that never get checked out by anyone, they throw them away or try to sell them for as cheap as possible. Not everything needs to be preserved. Video game "preservationists" always remind me of those people on the "Hoarders" TV show who insist every piece of garbage they own is important and must be saved.
Nothing amuses me more than presenting the "Video Game History Foundation" as a real thing that should be taken seriously. I have nothing in particular against piracy, do what you want, but you're not "preserving history". These games aren't "completely unavailable", some of them were printed in the millions and can be easily bought for a few bucks on ebay.
Oh good, more content for a mediocre Ubisoft game. No one cares, Sega, bring Jet Set Radio and Jet Set Radio Future to Switch and give us a Jet Set Radio III while you’re at it.
It’s disappointing that Nintendo isn’t more committed to providing accessibility options. They used to make a controller that would allow hands-free NES control back in the early 90s, so the least they could do now is provide simple button remap options for those who need it. Regardless of software options, it seems like a controller designed for those with limited ability to grasp a standard controller would be helpful. Does any third party manufacture a larger controller that would be easier to use?
The WiiU is the only Nintendo console I was truly disappointed in. I’ve been playing Nintendo consoles since 1988 and bought the Virtual Boy for full price on launch day.
I was a big fan of Pac-Man 99 when it was released and for a long time afterwards, but I haven’t played it as much recently. We need a Ms. Pac-Man 99 with different stages. I believe there’s some kind of copyright issue with whoever actually created the original Ms. Pac-Man, however. Bandai-Namco needs to end this once and for all and just buy out the rights to Ms. Pac-Man. They’re Bandai-Namco, for Christ’s sake. They can afford it.
Why a long sleeve t-shirt in the middle of May? And why is “long sleeve t-shirt” in quotation marks, like it’s some kind of strange, exotic thing? Are long sleeve t-shirts one of those US things that one would think are completely banal and common everywhere, but are actually unknown in the UK? Sort of like how you can’t find a decent sausage roll in the US, or habanero peppers in the UK.
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. You don't get to leak confidential information just because it's confidential information about a multibillion dollar company. Besides, it's not like he won't have another terrible retail job soon anyway.
This isn’t bad for an April Fool’s joke; it seems initially somewhat plausible. But, of course, there’s no way on God’s green earth that Nintendo would allow this.
I thought there were only official stores in Japan and New York, why would there be two in Thailand? None in Europe, one in the US, two in their home country, and two in…Thailand?
I'm sure this is a minority opinion, but I don't really care for the MercurySteam games. I don't like the analog stick control or the new punch move, and the art style looks like it belongs to a cheap mobile game instead of a Nintendo title. They're not terrible by any means, but I would prefer to see another developer take a shot at a 2D Metroid.
My memory might be hazy on this, but I read years ago that the name “Harvest Moon” wasn’t even created by Natsume. It was the result of a contest among the staff at NoA’s Nintendo Power magazine, who apparently loved the original Japanese version off the Super NES game. Staff members submitted ideas in an internal contest for an English name for the game, “Harvest Moon” won, and they suggested it to Natsume, who ran with it.
Of course, this is a perfectly plausible situation that we're hearing about from noted truth-teller Billy Mitchell. It's also sad to hear that stress caused a rupture in his peritoneum, which is something that happens in reality.
"As this was before the internet and emailing, however, Rare had no idea that Nintendo was working on its own handheld device at the time, and the Playboy was ultimately shelved."
The Game Boy was released in Japan in April 1989, so Rare would have known about it at CES, even if it was the January CES instead of the one in June. I mean, the "Playboy" name wasn't a coincidence...
I'm sure I could find this out if I cared to Google it, but how the hell does this Swedish company no one (and by no one I mean me) has ever heard of have enough money to buy the rights to the Lord of the Rings? I know they bought the remnants of THQ several years ago and a few tiny little game studios, but that's pocket change. Now they're some sort of behemoth that somehow owns everything?
I miss Chibi-Robo and wish Nintendo wouldn't have (seemingly) killed the series because Zip Lash was a failure. A 2D Chibi Robo platform game was a bad idea no one asked for.
The Game Boy Micro had a lot of things going for it: the screen was sharp, the buttons and D-pad were much better than the GBA SP, and it had removable faceplates. But it was too damn small. My perfect GBA would basically be a larger GBA Micro, but that would have been an even more pointless product to release at the time.
@SwitchVogel I kind of agree, but I don't think that should be held against Mother 3. If Earthbound Beginnings didn't do that great, it's because it wasn't that great. It's an interesting curio, a sort of prototype of the truly great Mother 2, but Mother 3 is a fully-formed fantastic game in its own right.
I desperately want the 3DS remasters of OOT and Majora's Mask to appear on the Switch. I'm afraid that Nintendo will view them as unnecessary since the original N64 versions are available with Nintendo Switch Online, but the remasters are very well done and don't deserve to die with the 3DS.
I absolutely love the design and would want to stay there even if there was no connection to Nintendo. Time to reconsider my negative attitude towards bank robbing...
I've never been able to get into Majora's Mask. I bought it when it came out for N64, I bought it for Virtual Console, and I bought the 3DS version. I don't think I've ever finished more than 20% of the game. It just doesn't feel like a Zelda game to me, although I'm not giving up and am determined to actually finish the 3DS version at some point.
Someone (ahem) should write a comparison guide to the 2D Zelda clones on Switch. Which is the best?
When I was a kid, I always wanted more games that were similar to Zelda, especially since there were so many Mario knockoffs while Zelda knockoffs were rare. Looks like that's no longer the case, so I have no complaints about any lack of originality.
When Yacht Club promised a "historic" and "ground-breaking" game, I said that I would bet my house that it would be neither.
I was right, but still, I am really interested in this. Games don't have to be ground-breaking and historic to be good. And they don't need Kickstarter *****, either. Just develop the game and release it, you're not a no-name developer anymore.
@OwenGamer22 Yes, it's definitely noticeable. I guess if you're not used to the way the originals played it may not be that bad, but pressing a button and waiting for Sonic to jump is pretty awful. The Switch Genesis collection is the only game I got a refund for after I purchased it. Everyone thought it would be patched, but nope.
Anyone voting for the original Zelda or Breath of the Wild is just fundamentally wrong. Breath of the Wild is the best Zelda ever made, and the original Zelda is a perfect example of the genre that later titles expanded upon. It is in no way "too difficult". I played and mastered it when I was 8, so maybe you just suck at video games?

Yikes, that looks janky and slow and the art style sucks. If this is actually going to be improved before launch, they should have waited to show it.

DX version for me. I hate the shiny, plasticky graphics of the remake. Such a wasted opportunity.
