No, this isn’t a bogus announcement. Two retro Bill & Ted games are getting a physical bundle on the Nintendo Switch courtesy of Limited Run Games.
Aptly titled Bill & Ted's Excellent Retro Collection, the package contains two LJN titles – the 1991 NES game Bill & Ted's Excellent Video Game Adventure, and Bill & Ted's Excellent Game Boy Adventure: A Bogus Journey!, released the same year.
Perhaps not the most critically lauded titles ever, but still an excellent retro package for fans. Limited Run Games announced the collection during its 2022 Showcase yesterday, showing off two versions of the upcoming packages – a standard release, and a Collector’s Edition.
If you’ve never played the games before and are a big Bill & Ted fan, here’s what to expect from this package:
BILL & TED'S EXCELLENT VIDEO GAME ADVENTURE
An NES game based on those two bodacious dudes of movie fame? Excellent!!!
History has been all screwed up and only the San Dimas Duo can set things straight. Awesome responsibility, man. Ride the Power Phone Booth to six different worlds. Galactic, man. Search for famous Historical Dudes through space and time. Most Cosmic.
Talk with the likes of Julius Caesar (he invented Caesar salad) and Napoleon (the short, dead dude). Send them back in time or you’ll miss the Wyld Stallyns concert- starring you! Heavy.
It's a bodacious, mind-boggling role-playing adventure. And your only chance to save the world and earn the respect you deserve. No way - yes way!
A most excellent role-playing adventure!
BILL & TED'S EXCELLENT GAMEBOY ADVENTURE A BOGUS JOURNEY
A world without our most excellent compatriots Bill and Ted? No way! Yes way - if the Grim Reaper and the evil Bill and Ted robots get their way! DeNomolos wants to totally change the future, and the only way to stop this most heinous dude is to travel though the “circuits of time” and collect the stolen time fragments! 10 adventures - 50 quests.
But watch out! Historical dudes like Billy the Kid are tumblin’ with killer tumbleweeds while the Executioner has an axe to grind with you. Napoleon has a “short” temper and even Granny S. Preston Esquire tries to bag you. Most Bogus!
Time is running out…so be excellent to each other and party on dudes!
The Collector’s Edition comes with a retro-style box, a soundtrack from “the greatest band of all time” Wyld Stallyns, and a dust sleeve. The standard edition will cost you $34.99, while the Collector’s Edition will be a little bit extra at $59.99. You can check out listings for both versions over at Limited Run Games’ store.
Pre-orders open for both editions are available from the 9th June at 7am PDT / 10am EDT / 3pm BST / 4pm CET until 10th July 8:59pm PDT / 11:59pm EDT / 1st August 4:59am BST / 5:59am CET.
Are you going “whoa!” at this surprise physical collection? Will you be picking it up? Let us know, and as always, be excellent to each other in the comments!

Isn't the NES game considered to be one of LJN's worst games (which is definitely saying something).
I'm a massive Bill & Ted fan but can't get pumped about this. It's leaving out some other releases (Lynx and home computers), but almost every B&T title was of seriously bogus quality with frustrating controls and objectives. The Gameboy adventure is passable
I can hear the AVGN yelling his famous closing quote for his review on Bill &Ted's Excellent Adventure.
I've never even watched the films, but I find GB games hard to resist. Hmm...
But what I would REALLY love are Simpsons and Beavis and Butt-head retro collections.
And the more GB games on physical media the better.
STATION! Anyways, the games were supposedly so bad they are blatantly just doing these games for stupid collectors and not people who want to play the game.
Two bad games. A great release if you're looking to bilk your loyal fanbase.
Literally no one asked for this. Sigh... LRG... 🤦♂️
Will get it! Will get the standard edition
Why isn't the Lynx version included? Not that it's any good from what I've played 😅
Well, it's about time to rewatch AVGN's episodes again...
Lol, these games are garbage. No one wants this.
I would waste my money for a digital version. But money for a physical version that will be played a couple times before collecting dust and further cluttering my disorganized life? Nah.
As much as I love independents games being released physicaly, I cannot say the same for NES/SNES/MD games comming to modern platform. And when they are games that are commonly known for being extremely bad, I really don't get the purpose
I have the nes game and in all honesty it’s not that bad. Not the greatest game ever but far from a terrible game.
Not too excited, though the GB game is actually pretty good. The NES game isn't great, but it's far from the worst game and actually has a few things going for it like some nice dialog that stays true to the feel of the movies.
These are terrible games, not sure why they would even bother bringing it back. I play the NES version as a kid, 5 years ago, and yesterday and it still sucks every time.
@Paperboy Due to the projected sales for this collection, they deemed a 16kb game card was as much as they could stretch to.
I love all things Bill and Ted...and will be skipping this. I still have the original GB one.
@gcunit : You didn't even have to be hyperbolic about it considering that the two measly ROMs collectively come to about 400kB.
And the absence of the PC and Atari Lynx games makes this release even more baffling.
But what's even more absurd than this being on a 1GB Switch cart is the likelihood of this shipping on a 50/66GB UHD Blu-ray disc for its PS5 release, and yet it will still need to be installed to the hard drive rather than running natively from the disk.
It's neat to have as a Bill and Ted collectable, I suppose, but the NES game (And I am VERY forgiving when it comes to old NES games) is really just the worst. There are moments where you can see something like a decent game shining through, but it's just bogged down by really lazy design.
Most non heinous!
But why though? These games were horrendous.
I have a sentimental attachment to the nes game, being one of a handful of games I owned as a child. That being said, it’s not great. Haha.
@homerstarfan13 It is, but I think at least the GB game is consider decent enough.
I hope inevitable flops like this don't cause (or haven't caused) them to have too few copies available of actually in-demand titles.
Of all the off the wall games/bundles to do they pick these ones? I could understand if those games were considered "cult classics" or something but if I remember they're known as garbage. I'm worried LRG next project/bundle will be the NES Back to the Future games...
@Serpenterror I'm confident they're doubling down strictly on the nostalgia or that hardcore consumer base that just eat up anything of 80's or 90's "pop culture" cause its TikTok cool or something along that vein.
Imagine paying 60 bucks for some of the worst games ever made.
Don’t people hate LJN?
Oddly enough, Bill and Ted NES, is from the same developer as Loadstar and Cadillacs and Dinosaurs (not to be confused with the awesome Capcom arcade game) for the Sega CD and PC. Rocket Science games. Both games with shallow gameplay and a focus on cutscenes or FMV.
doh: The Rocket Science that worked on the NES game is probably a different company.
Hell no. What a moronic choice for rerelease.
"WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?!"
Well i'd probably get it if digital, or available in normal games stores.
