Apologies for the provocative headline, of course not everyone has abandoned their humble 3DS in favour of the mighty Nintendo Switch just yet! The birds are tweeting, the sun is shining, we've all done a bit of house cleaning; yes, it's finally Spring time.
To celebrate Nintendo is running another National StreetPass Weekend. From 13th-16th April you can collect up to six StreetPass tags from across North America when you stop by a Nintendo Zone location with your beloved 3DS.
Here are some of the fun StreetPass features in recent games that Nintendo is keen to showcase:
Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World
Design a whole new pattern for Yoshi, and then share your personalized Yoshi via StreetPass! Don't forget, this game has a free demo, too!
Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS
You can use the StreetPass feature to share your favorite course with others—and get theirs in return.
Animal Crossing: New Leaf - Welcome amiibo
Did you know that you can get special in-game furniture and items when you visit a Nintendo Zone location? In addition, you can get one item from Nintendo by in-game mail via the SpotPass™ feature! Get these special pieces and add these spring-themed pieces to your room:
Cherry-blossom clock (4/1-4/15) in Nintendo Zone
Taurus bathtub (4/16-4/30) in Nintendo Zone
Lotus pond (from Post Office)DRAGON QUEST VIII: Journey of the Cursed King
Take pictures of people, places, and slimes throughout your journey, then show them off to other players through the StreetPass feature. Depending on the ratings you receive, your pics can earn fun photo embellishments for you to use, like filters, stamps, and more!
Dragon Ball Fusions
Dragon Ball Fusions offers the ability to use the Street Pass function! Activate StreetPass in Dragon Ball Fusions and select a Dragon Ball character you would like to fuse with others. After exchanging your StreetPass data with someone else, fuse the two characters together. You'll be able to encounter other players' StreetPass opponents and fight them (AI driven only).
Pokémon Shuffle
You can use the StreetPass feature to share game stats with others—and see their stats in return. You can also earn one heart per five StreetPass occasions. Pokémon Shuffle is also giving away a special in-game gift every day for those who check-in until the promotion ends on 4/18!
STORY OF SEASONS: Trio of Towns
With StreetPass enabled for STORY OF SEASONS: Trio of Towns, farmer profiles and pet information are automatically shared between systems that get close to one another. Your pet may visit Westown in another farmer's game, and you can talk to pets that visit your game to see a profile of their owner. Pets that visit other games will fetch items that can be collected from Dessie, the little green-haired goddess. The more farmers you exchange info with, the more items you will receive!
Will you be enjoying the Spring sunshine and taking your 3DS with you on your travels this weekend?

I've never stopped rockin my 3ds...Too many good games. Plus only Nintendo handheld with V.C. right now.
I'm liking that cover photo.
@ParanoidPal it is but this combo doesn't need virtual console.

Man... I used to be obsessed with getting StreetPasses! I needed to get all the puzzles, all the plaza tickets, all the hats. It's still one of my most played games on 3DS (StreetPass Mii Plaza).
Back then there were about 10 different shops in my town that were StreetPass relays. I'd awkwardly stand outside the shops, or even go into shops I had no intention of buying stuff in just to get that little green light of joy. My girlfriend would get soooo angry.
Some of the games are actually quite nostalgic to me already, like StreetPass Mansion. That's my favourite.
Really wish the Switch had something similar.
@UK-Nintendo I've got the same set up as you. Plus my sp is an ags-101. That doesn't change how I use my 3ds. Still need my earthbound and super metroid on the go. What is that system on the right?
@UK-Nintendo Oh 2ds....I got that for my wife.
I have two 3DS now (Older 3DS XL & New 3DS XL), so I can Street Pass easily. I just turn on my both 3DS, set the Street Pass ON, pass each other and get Green Light Notification.
I have mixed feelings about StreetPass.
Certain games made very good use of it, like those listed in the article. The Plaza games were some of my favourite on the system.
But, trying to get those hits became Nintendo's biggest troll move (aside from Metroid and Mother3, perhaps). I'm still salty about that 999 999 hits accomplishment and Special Mii malarkey. So much time wasted.
Really wish the Nintendo Switch had some sort of Street Pass feature...
no dust on my 3ds
@ParanoidPal yea. I got it for my son but now I prefer the 2ds over the 3ds
@UK-Nintendo I have the same (but 2 GBA SP'S) plus a DS Lite! No VC needed indeed!
Alright alright alright....
Nothing here in Canada is one anymore except Best Buy. Chances of me getting to one of those is slim to none.
My 2DS is still flagship handheld and with Fire Emblem Echoes and other games coming, it will stay that way for a long time.
I play my 2DS more then my Xbox One and Wii U.
meh. I tend to have my Switch or Vita on me these days. 3DS hasn't had anything to play since DQ this year (and so far, thats the only game I've bought on it this year :/)
I wish Switch had Streetpass - I miss it
@gortsi still have the original ds phat but boxed away as 3ds is backward compatible
I completed my last puzzle recently and finished all the islands on fishing and all the levels on the zombie game. Unless I were to download the ones I missed, I'm done with Streetpass. I loved the feature but it never caught on for some reason. I think in NA it didn't catch on because most parents who are buying the system for their kids have absolutely no clue or no intention of showing their kids how to do it. My kids would make friends and the new friend would have a 3DS, and my kids would ask them about streetpass and they would be like, "what's that" and the system would have none of the updates.
3DS really turned out to prove itself worthy. In spite of all the smart phones that surround it.
Sony's lil' trooper and the 3DS may only account for 2% of the games market right now in terms of revenue, but they surely account for a good bit more than 2% of the playtime.
Haven't played my 3DS in a month. Feel bad because I got right near the end of DQ8. Will the Horse Princess ever be back to her old self?
Too bad I rarely go into town....and when I do I rarely get any street passes anyway...>.>
I still take my 3ds round with me. Rarely get any passes unless I hover outside Game.
I need to charge mine up. It died sometime during Switch launch week.
My 3DS will die before I run out of things to play on it, no worries of dust here.
Are you kidding? I play my 3DS almost everyday. I always carry it with me when I'm out and about anyway. It doubles as a great MP3 player too. I doubt my 3DS will ever have dust on it.
I actually play on my 3DS everyday, it's my trusty little friend! Though I love to get StreetPasses, I can't seem to get them like I used to. The only place I seem to get them is in Game. (the UK shop)
@gardevoir7 Aw you said was I was going to say myself, as I agree. The 3DS is still a lot of fun to have, since it does so much.
I wish Nintendo would release more puzzle swap pannels. I love those! There haven't been any since Federation Force
As much as I loved Street Pass, I'm over it now. I resent getting hits because I'm so sick of most of the games. I rarely take it for walks either because I don't need the coins. It's like all good things, they come to an end.
The word "weekend" 3 times before the break is a little redundant.
Good to see Nintendo still supporting this feature. Now how about some Special Miis and maybe more puzzles? I've been sitting on all 1608 pieces for several months now.
