This for me is the first true must have game on Switch. It looks fantastic.
Amazing
Stop posting these awesome videos and ruining my promise to not watch anything else until launch!
"triplicate"
Think you mean "trio", Alex.
Mustn't watch. Must... preserve... sense of wonder... NNNNG
(blacks out)
With Xeno 2 on the horizon, not even Mario could reach the top. But the now ex-plumber will have to be content with the closely placed second spot.
Looks kinda empty?!? Just kidding, day one buy!
Until the Switch I never bought a console day one and to this day never pre-ordered a game in my life.
I need to resist it: reviews first then decision, reviews first then decision, reviews first them decision...
I'm running out of different ways to describe how excited I am for this game
Lets just say there's a lump in my trousers
I'm being patient.
I want this
I want this
I want this

More footage here
So I wasn't convinced by the newdonk city footage. But... luncheon kingdom has me convinced. Bring on the odyssey!
SUPER MEAT MARIO
Preordered the bundle and was planning to wait until Christmas to give to my kids so they could have a second Switch. The more I see of this game the more I realize it will be impossible for me to wait two months to play this! Looks spectacular can't wait.
I like that third kingdom video better, good stuff.
Damnit guys, please MIND THE SPOILERS. You put 'em in the thumbnail.
@redd214 Most people haven't got one Switch, let alone two!
Yes, please. I want now, give it me. That is all we can show of the boss fight. Darn it.
@JaguarWong Triplicate is a word, if you're a fancy enough fellow to use it. And good-gravy-blimey-biscuits is Mr. Olney one such a fancy fellow.
After that jump the shark is a mere glimmer in Mario's eye.
@NintendoFan4Lyf MARIO WIIU, is that you?
Dat hype doe!
It'll be hard for me not to be able to play this. I'm not getting a Switch in its current form.
Looks great. Can't wait.
@Maxz
IGN - Too much good looking water..... 7 out of 10.
Preordered on the 13th of January... 5 weeks and 2 days to go!
I'm still a little unsure of how sold I am on this game; a few little details and design aspects aren't sitting quite right with me--the HUD/GUI for example, and there's something about the look of the pretty obvious invisible-wall-boxed-in nature of the sandbox levels that seems a little strange to me too (that sense that they're just little areas stuck in the middle of nowhere, like little islands, despite Nintendo's basic attempts to generally create the illusion that they're sitting in part of a bigger world beyond the confines of the immediately playable area*)--but it's not like there's ever really been a less than very good Super Mario game.
Part of me genuinely thinks "Would I really care about this game if the developer removed all the Mario related designs?"--it feels like a bit of an indie mish-mash of random ideas at times--but, at the same time, I'm impressed with how much variety and stuff there is in there too. And I'm sure it's got to be pretty dang fun running and jumping around those levels, right?
I dunno, maybe a bit like many of the previous 3D Super Mario games, I'll be able to genuinely appreciate it for what it is and how much the developers have actually put into the game--and there will definitely many parts where I can still see that Nintendo magic clear as day--but maybe it just won't be quite right for me (which is the case with most of the 3D Super Mario games, as opposed to how much I absolutely love most of the classic 2D Super Mario games). Or maybe it will somewhat surprise me and turn out to be a total gem.
Again, I'm still a little torn on how I feel about the game--but I'm compelled to learn more at the very least.
*It's like Nintendo's artists are totally reluctant to waste any geometry beyond the main play area, but, imo, the best games usually do a great job of making the levels feel like they are properly part of a much bigger world that you are playing around in (at least in terms of creating compelling videogame universes); they don't make it feel like you're just playing on/in relatively small and finite floating areas with a basic sky/area map and some minimal geometry in the far distance to unconvincingly try to convince you otherwise. It's just a pet peeve I have with a few of the recent Super Mario 3D games, and I wish Nintendo would work on that area of the level designs a bit more--because it makes these Mario games just feel somewhat small and restricted imo, and kinda in a lazy way in terms of design.
The game that convinced me to buy a Switch! It looks absolutely fantastic, except----something about the Luncheon Kingdom, especially in this video, looks almost....incomplete? It just looks unpolished and dull. Everything else, though, looks typically wonderful!
I've seen WAAAAY too much of the game at this point, so I'll be skipping these videos. Ridiculously excited for this game!
@AlternateButtons Yes, probably. I did think of that. That game and Sonic Mania I will definitely buy on Switch. I meant games from Nintendo themselves.
@NintendoFan4Lyf The water in Sea of Thieves is probably the best water in any game right now.
@Matthew010 a buddy of mine has 4!! One for him and 1 for each of his kids. Just trying to catch up to him lol!
@Maxz
Yes. It is a word. It's the wrong word. But it's definitely a word.
I can't believe this game is on a handheld machine..
It looks amazing!!
@redd214 wow!
@AlternateButtons the games a masterpiece. I love it. Great pick up and play
Ugh Nintendo always rock out water physics and appearance.... gives me goosebumps.
@Ryu_Niiyama cough*waverace*cough
This is going to be a great Birthday this year.
Not watching any more videos. Mustn't spoil the greatness before the game arrives.
Please stop posting spoiler videos on youtube. It's like you guys enjoy bragging that you get to play the game early
Amazing !
Super Terderloin Mario, Dino Mario, Swuid Mario, Cheep Cheep Mario, etc.
At least that looks more like a Mario dinosaur.
I need this
I'm starting to think this game has a chance to be pretty decent. Might pick it up when it goes on sale depending on its length. /s
Every time I see more of this game, it looks better and better. Hard to say that for most other games.
@redd214 We have one but we're already in discussion to pick-up at least one more system. There are 3 members, including myself, in my family that play video games. It would be nice to be able to play games like Splatoon 2 against each other.
In a perfect world, I wish Nintendo would sell a family pack of the same game at a discounted price or use one cart like the 3DS did with some games.
@tangram just don't think of super mario 64 and what it did. Whats the chances of this causing the same kind of forward momentum to the standard of games like super mario 64.
Yeah, I might pick this up at launch...#quickly puts in 10 pre-orders via various websites and stores#
@dkxcalibur yeah I wish that too. that's one reason I held off on getting another tbh. Their policy on gamesharing, especially digital games, is just archaic. Hoping they change their stance soon but I highly doubt it.
"Your majestic flight will be scorched forever into my eyestalks!"
This game looks incredible and so fun. Hurry up October 27!!!!!!
@Mommar Wave race and mario sunshin still look fantastic imo.
October is your bday month? Nice! Mine too..trying not to sell a kidney and buy everything coming out next month. Must be a responsible adult...ah nevermind.
I want this....NOW!!!
I am not gonna watch the videos because I want to limit how much of the game I spoil for myself. But I do appreciate you giving us the option to watch them.
@JaguarWong The Merriam-Webster webpage given cites the following sentence as a correct use of the word 'triplicate':
"Here, our mid-life crisis-hurdling protagonist is not only a woman, but one with a triplicate of complications — a husband, a daughter, and the capper, a career guiding patients through their own squalls of the psyche".
I fail to see how a "triplicate of ploblems" is a legitimate use of the word, while a "triplicate of videos" is wrong. The videos are surely more similar to each other than the aforementioned problems, and there are undoubtably three of each in either case.
Please put me out of my ignorance and explain.
wow that is some weird stuff. that bird puking into the curry? hm...
not sure why i'm not excited for this game. but i haven't felt the buzz.
Also just realized this game's mechanic is very closely related to "Little Nemo" on NES.
as brentalfloss put it "steal the soul of an animal!"
haha. that actually has me a bit more excited.....
Hm I don't like the graphical style of the world shown in the first video. It looks rather bleak, nothing like a Mario game, more like some indie platformer...
The second one kinda reminded me of that sidemission in BotW where you have to glide off a tower. ^^
Regarding the third one: Hopefully playing underwater levels is more comfortable as an actual fish instead of a Mario.
@Ryu_Niiyama Just barely, the 29th.
Watching the water in that new Mario level makes me want a new Waverace. These new videos give me a Mario 64 vibe, it would be mice to pair that with Waverace again.
Finally, I can live out my lifelong dream to play a Mario game as a (re)animated pile of meat.
@impurekind in a maelstrom of hype, it's always useful to hear a considered, critical opinion like this.
I'm with you on the 2D/3D thing
This said, I'm pretty sure this will be in my collection before too long.
@Maxz
If there were two videos would you say there was a duplicate of them?
@Marios-love-child is that's the only way to describe excitement for this game!
@JaguarWong No. I wouldn't say "triplicate" either, if it were me writing the article.
But seemingly, I could say "a triplicate of videos" (inasmuch as I could say "a triplicate of problems" - if the dictionary is to be believed), and I might take issue with someone telling me I was "wrong" without being able to explain why three different problems can come in "triplicate" but not the above three videos.
The seaside kingdom looks the best so far. Maybe because it reminds me the most of Mario Sunshine!
@Maxz
As triplicate clearly means three identical things I can only assume that the example given in the (American) Merriam Webster dictionary is incorrect - it wouldn't be the first time.
@JaguarWong "I am correct in this matter. Is is the dictionary that is wrong"
For what it's worth, the Oxford English Dictionary gives as one of its definitions of 'triplicate':
"Of or related to three corresponding parts", and cites "a triplicate honour was given to a king" as an example of its use in a sentence. I think it's safe to assume that this refers to a 'three-part honour', and that not all three parts of said honour are identical.
Anyway, I think I've provided enough citations for my case. The onus is now on you to explain how various dictionaries have all managed to give such massively wrong definitions and get away with it.
So far you've simply just is that your assertion is "clearly" true, and that you therefore "assume" it is the dictionary that is incorrect. Unfortunately, "clearly" has the same amount of argumentative substance as just saying "common sense, innit". What I'm looking for is evidence, not "assumptions".
So yeah, sorry to be a grump, but please support your case! I've no doubt 'triplicate' is more commonly used in cases where the three objects are identical, but sources suggest that it can be used in cases like this, and it's therefore blunt and inaccurate to label it "wrong".
@Maxz
Guess I was wrong.
@JaguarWong After all that, I must admit I'd likely only use the word in the cases where the three components were identical, as that's the only case I can really imagine it having any advantage over the word you gave earlier, "trio" (apart from having more letters).
But, err... I could use it in wider scenarios if I wanted to, at risk of causing excessively long arguments about my word choice below the piece of writing itself.
