Re: Switch Owners Aren't Worried About Visual Presentation, According To Crashlands Dev

ouroborous

I could have told you ten years ago, 2D games will always be fun and we will always want to play them. Its deeply sad that they stopped making 2D Castlevania games. Symphony of the Night, Aria of Sorrow, Dawn of Sorrow and Order of Ecclessia are some of my all time fav games.

Additionally, what really matters across the board, 3D games or not is that things are playable and look at least acceptable on the switch. Honestly I dont care at all if you can play a fancier version on another console. If you can make it playable on the Switch, do it. I will happily take a cut in graphics that I will never notice or care about cause otherwise I will probably never play your fancy new game.

Re: Nintendo Switch Online Service Had A "Good" Launch, Focus Will Now Shift To Boosting Its Appeal

Add monthly mailings of free Nintendo swag like figures and whatnot and I'm in. If it ever goes up to $50 a month forget it.

Really I don't get it, what does this get you other than the ability to play some crappy limited-time NES games?
You can't charge people for the ability to play things online, that's absurd. Not that I have any idea why you'd need to play anything online really in the first place.

Re: Review: Sinner: Sacrifice For Redemption - A Distilled But Ultimately Disappointing Dark Souls Wannabe

ouroborous

Awwwwwwwww! What a disappointment. This looked AWESOME from the trailer. But who needs another boss rush, let alone a game that is nothing but. The relatively low price-point was a red flag, but still, I hoped for better, like maybe the game was just kinda short and could one day be expanded with DLC. The bosses LOOK amazing, but if they are all there is, that leaves next to no context for why beating them would be satisfying.

Oh Well.

Re: Soapbox: Nintendo's Maddening Stance On Retro Gaming Is Driving Me To Piracy

ouroborous

As for emualtion and piracy, the best deterrent is for Nintendo to provide such a service themselves, duh. They don't seem to think it's worth the time or effort but they are wrong. And it can't be all that difficult when one homebrewed program or app can run so very many rooms perfectly on loads of other platforms. Time to wake up and get on board nintendo

Re: Soapbox: Nintendo's Maddening Stance On Retro Gaming Is Driving Me To Piracy

All excellent points. I foolishly hoped way back in the day that Nintendo would make thier entire back catalog available as a thank you to long time fans and as an introduction for new players. But no, they've gone the stupid way about it all along. This new offering is paltry at best and a shame. Nintendo Netflix would be an acceptable means and I'd go for it. But they do need to include as many of the old systems as possible on a technical level. And if they need to pursue license agreements, well, they need to get on that.

Re: Random: Katamari Director Wasn't Impressed With Mario Or Zelda On Switch

ouroborous

Well that's just insane, both of those games are excellent. I just finished my replay of Zelda and cant wait to replay Mario again as well.
Still, Katamari was fun, at least the first one for sure (it had the best music) and it'll be fun to play again.
Do we know if "Reroll" is just the first game or if its the collection?
I played 1, 2 and the PSP katamari and would probably play them all agian.

Re: Terraria

I'll totally buy it again for switch. Its a flawed but really addictive game. Ive played it several times on 3DS and on PC (cause of the extra content). But really, the controls on the 3DS were ideal.

Re: Eiji Aonuma Says There’s A Possibility The Next Zelda Title Will Be On Switch

ouroborous

If a game comes out on two systems at once then I don't think it's exactly a "port". These days it takes so long to make a new Zelda. BoTW missed the wiiU window by so long I'd say that it's primarily a Switch game, which was also " ported" to the WiiU. Plus, they have dual-released before with GC/Wii for the lamentable Zelda TP (I just hated that game to bits, tried to play it many times and I just hate it).

Re: Miyamoto Doesn't Want To Make An MMORPG Because It Would Be Boring

ouroborous

MMORPGs have partly ruined gaming, are stupid and no fun (in case you didnt realize, warcraft is a hamster wheel of pointlessness). At the very least, the world certainy doesnt need any more multiplayer games of any kind. Who but kids have enough friends irl? (Party games? Okay fine, beyond that, screw games that cannot be played by a single gamer, utter trash!!) And everyone online is a useless jerk. What about when those servers go down for good ya bozos? Those games wont be preserved for any future generations because they cant.
Currently its "Roguelikes" that are eroding videogame playability these days. With the idiocy that is "permadeath", stupidest single concept EVER, and "procedurally generated" assets (read generic, pointless, and never satisfying - a cheap move laughably pawned off as a new idea), videogames are continuing to be eroded down to nothing these days.

What are some good games?
Zelda BotW
Mario Odyssey
Axiom Verge
Hollow Knight
Xenoblade
Shantae, etc
Resident Evil Rev
Monster Hunter 3, 4, etc
Bayonetta

The world doesnt need more MMORPGs. Phew, I needed to vent
Thank God its not all gone to pot, there are still good games to play.

Re: Nintendo's Recent Legal Action Against ROM-Sharing Sites Scares Major Player Into Removing Downloads

ouroborous

well that sucks, emuparadise was great for the once in a while rom download. nice and easy, they had everything you could want. but i suppose there will always be somewhere to get roms if you really want them.

i just hate the whole "somebody got taken down and now were scared too" thing like when megaupload went down years ago. sad day, ALOT of great stuff lost forever as sooo many sites just bailed after that out of fear of similar repercussions. still, its the internet, you can still get most of whats out there if you really want to.

its just so pointless for nintendo to be worried about ancient games that they havent distributed in all these years and may no longer have rights to anyway.

When the Wii came out, one of the selling points should have been an emulator on the console which allowed you to play ALL of Nintendo's ancient back catalog. If you can do it yourself on a computer, why the heck cant Nintendo seem to be able to figure that out?
Plus, it would be a really nice thank you to long time customers like myself and a great entry point for newer customers. But noooooo, they just wanna make a buck now and milk everybody for everything that they can, for the millionth time..
They arent all bad but this stuff is BS.

Re: Feature: What Does Nintendo's Shutdown Of ROM-Sharing Sites Mean For Video Game Preservation?

ouroborous

What sites are being shut down? I didnt even see that in the article...
Also, back off Nintendo, who are roms hurting? NO ONE. They are ancient games and if Nintendo hasnt made them available then Im glad someone else did.
Not to mention, what about all the other roms which arent nintendo related? They have no right to cause those to be lost forever.
Unless its a current-gen system, ROMS are fair game. At the very least, for long-defunct systems, Roms are a necessary means of preservation of our gaming heritage (and Im not kidding).

Re: Gallery: Sonic Mania Plus Is The Version Of Sonic Mania You've Always Wanted

ouroborous

Oh snap, I was interested in this since I didnt buy the special edition physical copy when it came out, it had a neat statue with it, but cost like $90, so I passed. Anyway, I didnt know this version was going to come with a slipcase and artbook. Anything with an art book, Im sold! (I more-or-less triple-dipped for the recent Shantae Half Genie Hero, and it was worth it for the art book).
Gotta go reserve this, ayeeeeee!

Re: Rumour: Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Will Soon Allow Players To Fully Customise Difficulty Parameters

ouroborous

Well Im at the World Tree trying to kill Amalthus, all my drivers are LVL 72 or better but I cant kill him no matter what I try. Im just off grinding through affinity trees atm to try and gain some levels. So if theres a difficulty adjustor, I may use it to fight Amalthus. But for the most part, I never had much trouble in this game in general, difficulty-wise. It just sucks because there's nothing else to do right now except progress the main story and I'm stuck. Ive loved this game to death so I have every intention of finishing, whatever it takes.
