Re: Review: La-Mulana - Packed With Peerless Puzzles That Demand Dedicated Players

ouroborous

Started playing #1 again, and yes, it's difficult and definitely demands your full attention in a way most games do not. But it is really addictive once you get going and clearly lovingly made. I do highly recommend, if you played Alot of old-school nes games back in the day and/or like that sort of thing.
Personally, I explore an area, solve what I can, then consult maps and guides to get it all sorted.
There is just SO much that is interconnected and puzzly, that even with maps and such, the game is still very challenging and very fun.
I'd say, don't hesitate to take the help, you'll be running in circles even with the help. You'd just get stuck forever without it later on in the game.
If you can clear the game by any means, you are a god and fully deserving of the bragging rights afterwards.
You're exploring ruins, of course you need a handy annotated map. The connections between areas alone is Alot to keep track of, even with on-line maps.

Re: Review: Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection - A Superb Selection Of Retro Classics

ouroborous

Incredible. The complete MMZ/ZX Collection in one slick package, all playable on your TV (finally!).
Fantastic.
I played all of these back in the day and if you've ever been a real fan of "The Blue Bomber" then these games are also a must.
I mean come on, we all loved Megaman, but we always wanted to Be Zero.
I'm gonna have Alot of fun with these. I'm actually most looking forward to playing the ZX games again.

Re: Talking Point: How Often Do You Make The 'Switch Sacrifice'?

ouroborous

The era of caring about "the best graphics", "the best tv", "the best sound quality", at least for me, is over.
Even the lowest standard quality currently available is a million times better than what it was just a few console generations ago.
Gimme whatever's clever and I'm good.

The only current gen console I have is the switch and the only thing I've missed is Fallout and Monster Hunter World.
That's a shame, but it's also just a drop in the bucket. There is sooooooo much quality content it's ridiculous.

And for the record, Bloodstained was wonderful and there was NOTHING wrong with it whatsoever on day one since ive only ever played it on the switch. I really couldn't care less that there might be a version out there with slightly better graphics and there was nothing at all wrong with it's performance on switch anyway.

Re: Nintendo Expands The Switch Online SNES And NES Service With Six Classic Games

ouroborous

WOW! Journey to Silius? Thats a rare one. It has incredibly fantastic and memorable music, however, the difficulty ramps up to "completely impossible" rather quickly. And when i say impossible, I dont mean by today's standards, i mean by the standards of the time when i was a hardcore diehard super amadeus at NES games (man, we had ALOT of patience back then).
At any rate, its nice that this will give the game some exposure.

Maybe its not impossible that we might see Solar Jetman on there one day. Now that's an underrated classic that is fantastic. I am still waiting for a sequel, but theres nary a game that even comes close to being like that one. The flight system was unique and required finesse, but I really loved it once i got the hang of it. The last level was my only complaint, because heres a game with a unique control mechanic, but then suddenly at the very end, they toss that out the window and it becomes a straight up side-scrolling shooter/shmup for the final boss, just out of the blue, lol.

Re: The Physical Version Of Assassin's Creed Rebel Collection Might Be Different In North America

ouroborous

Incorrect.
Assassins Creed Rogue Collection requires a download in order to play Rogue in the US/NA. It is 7GB, and another 1GB for additional content (if you want it) like a manga, etc.
There is NO indication on the packaging, whatsoever, that a download is required. There is no code, you have to do the download through the game/cart menu itself. So I assume you will need to have the game cart in your switch in order to play Rogue. The switch still only has the one icon on the home screen.

Re: Bloodstained Graphics And Performance Update For Switch Is Now Live

ouroborous

The game looked and played fine at launch. If they tweaked it, great, but I didn't have any problem with the game aside from it occasionally crashing when I would enter the shop.
But that wasn't a problem because I would just save first.
The flying sword was by far my fav, and they decided to weaken it a while back, sadly.

Re: Review: Gun Gun Pixies - A Pitiful Perv-Fest That Also Fails As A Video Game

ouroborous

Well despite the biased natured of the review, it still sounds like the gameplay is pretty shoddy at any rate. Shame. Could have been some zany quirky japanesey fun. Everyone, man and woman, likes a bit of gratuitous skin and cleavage but I guess I'll be taking a pass on this one.

As for the reviewer, I'm guessing that he took an overly strong stance so he wouldn't be called a perv.

Re: Review: Spyro Reignited Trilogy - A Blast From The Past That's Still Got Wings

ouroborous

So you can't play any of the games w/o the download? Really what's the point of a physical release at all then? If that's the case then I'll just wait for it to go on sale on the eShop. They've been having fantastic sales lately.

Ugh it's frustrating, digital is convenient, but space is an issue. I love physical copies when possible but GameStop never reduces the price of games fast enough, or at all sometimes. You just can beat some of these eShop sales. I just keep forgetting that I downloaded things, as my gaming backlog continues to grow.

Re: Bloodstained: Ritual Of The Night Switch Patch Comes With Some Unwelcome Extras

ouroborous

I played through the game on Switch and loved it.
For the record, there is nothing wrong with the game at all.
My ONLY complaint is that it would crash once in a while when i went to the shop room in town. (So make sure you hit the save room before talking to Dominique or Susie!!!)

Im not patching my copy if they are gonna weaken my fav weapons and shards and familiars. I already beat the game so im content.
At least i can new-game-plus and cheat some of that problem to a degree. (They didnt say they weakened the Oracle Blade, which was probably my favorite). And also, I have a hard copy of the game, so I can always delete the update data and play the original version of the game ( just one more reason game carts are kind of a good idea).

Re: Review: Terraria - A Fine Switch Port That’s Missing One Key Ingredient

ouroborous

As I understand, this version has Alot more of the PC versions content (which I have also played), compared to the 3ds version. So I'll definitely be picking it up.
I loved the controls and setup on 3ds vs the PC version.
It's not perfect, but it's a great and addictive game. $30 is high compared to steam, but it's not really an unfair price for the content.
My main complaint was when they upped the difficulty to a ridiculous level with the update on 3ds.
It made the bosses unbeatable without multiple players and I've got one additional player at most. Even on PC, we never could beat Betsy.

Re: Can We Talk About Bloodstained's Tribute To Castlevania: Symphony Of The Night's Amazing Twist Yet?

ouroborous

Well that's a shame it bothers you. I admit it feels like you move slowly, but i really wouldn't say that it feels unresponsive, which is what I feel is implied by "input lag".
Again, if the Switch version is the only version you're ever going to play, it's just fine. And hopefully they can adjust it or the better with the upcoming patches. That is one of the issues they are addressing.

Re: Can We Talk About Bloodstained's Tribute To Castlevania: Symphony Of The Night's Amazing Twist Yet?

ouroborous

And btw, I'm playing the Switch version, and it's fine. In a side by side comparison, yea, other versions are nicer. But playing it on Switch, docked or handheld, it's perfectly fine. I'm enjoying it. Nothing wrong with the graphics or the supposed input lag. Neither of which are major detractors unless you're being really picky about it. If no one had told me, I wouldn't have ever noticed either issue.

Re: Soapbox: I Don't 'Get' Smash Bros. And I Just Don't Know Why

ouroborous

Same here, love the amiibos but never been interested in Smash OR Mario cart. I played some Street Fighter back in the day, but fighting games and racing games don't really feel like real games to me. You play them for 5 minutes and you're just like, yea ok, meh. Some people LOVE multiplayer stuff, and it's all the rage these days but it'll never be my cup of tea.

Re: Talking Point: Could Nintendo Ditch Physical Media With A 'Switch Lite?'

ouroborous

I'll always buy physical copies when possible. The benefits outweigh the digital option.
You can sell it or lend it to a friend, you've got a nice collection of boxes on your shelf, special editions with swag are awesome, you need TONS of memory storage if you download everything, if your console dies your digital copies of games might be gone forever, and inevitably the eShop closes one day and you can't redownload even if you still own the license (again, if your console dies and you buy another one).
If you buy physical, you always have it.
Although I know there are some wacky instances of necessary downloads or one game on cart and one game digital only in a collection.

Re: Guide: The Best Value amiibo For Your Nintendo Switch

ouroborous

I love amiibos, but seeing as they are almost strictly a one-and-done deal, talking about which ones u should buy is pretty irrelevant unless u wanna go getting scalped by re-sellers online.
It's either buy it when it comes out, or say goodbye forever, when it comes to amiibos.

Re: Feature: The Best Metroidvania Games On Nintendo Switch

ouroborous

Hm, what a list. Shantae, Axiom, Hollow Knight, and Yoku are all fantastic. But I don't know why Iconoclasts keeps getting mentioned. I played it through and it just lacked heart. Blaster Master was pretty good. Some of the other I haven't played yet but expect to enjoy. And yes Owlboy could be added, but again, I didn't really think it was all that great.

Re: Talking Point: What Do You Want From A Switch Mini?

ouroborous

Meh, I don't really care about a switch mini. But fused joycons would be fine. I only use them as a second controller anyway.
If anything a more powerful switch would be enticing, but that would be better as a follow-up system. It gets confusing when games only work on one version of the system, like with the "new3ds".
Although I did buy one of those, and it is far superior...
But a new Switch would be a serious monetary hardship for me, so I wouldn't be happy about it. But I guess I could sell my current one to my brother so we'd both have some version of a switch...
