The Evercade is promising that ever-so niche but ever-so dedicated market of retro-leaning types who want more and more ways to play their old games rather than just firing up the consoles for which they were made something rather special. Unique multi-carts of games from proper publishers, which is certainly a bold idea, and one we're keen to see more of.
Well now we can get a ruddy good look at the first real prototype of the machine up close and personal, courtesy of the creators, as well as showing off the HDMI TV output. Behold!
Do these images make you lust for this machine more? Let us know with a comment where comments belong.

I personally don't really like the look of the dpad but it could feel better in person! Regardless, I always like seeing these neat little products.
I like these types of projects too. I’ll keep an eye on this. Will NL review this despite its non-Nintendo-ness?
This thing has my attention. I love the 80s styling of it. Looks like a legit retro portable console to me.
Looks exactly like the cheap garbage that it is. No thanks.
Looks cheap and nasty
I’m intrigued, but only if it’s quality is decent. This looks on par with the FC Twin, which was garbage!
I love me an obscure handheld gaming device, but will definitely need to read some hands-on impressions before I up my interest in this one. Don't like the look of the buttons from these initial pics.
It kind of looks bad to be honest.
Think it looks great
I don't know why Nintendo did it, and I don't know why anyone would do it. A should be bottom, B should be on the right, X should be along the X-axis on the left and Y should be on the Y-axis on the top. Can we make button layouts make sense or atleast standardized
Widescreen was a weird choice. Also, is it single player only?

It's showing off the NES Port of xevious or do they have the arcade port running at 4:3? I was under the impression the majority would be Arcade ports.
@ummyeahnintendo Well Nintendo did it first so everyone who came after chose not to make it one standard. Sony made it worse by using circle for a in Japan, but cross for a in the West.
I like the retro look of this, but how much will it cost? Better not be overpriced.
A repurposed mobigo!
Looks nice and chunky! I love it and can't wait to try it myself.
@ummyeahnintendo Because Nintendo created that standard close to a decade before the Dreamcast (to be followed by Xbox) arrangement.
As someone mentioned, it was Sony's odd choice to make the bottom (X on PS) the standard "main" button. (in Japanese, the circle and X symbols have the standard meaning of "correct/good" and "wrong/bad" which is why they are usually the enter and cancel buttons over there.)
@HIGHscores85 I thought the Namco collection announced was primarily console versions (they at least used console artwork), that is Famicom/Super Famicom/Mega Drive games.
As long as the games run properly and it looks good on the screen I’m not too bothered about which versions they’ve chosen
That thing is hideously ugly and looks like any other number of generic handheld emulators already available.
@commentlife Where do you source you 4:3 LCDs? I have not seen them with reasonable performance at affordable prices in a long time.
just me or do the screens look like my 4 and 6 year old got hold of them for half hour. the d pad looks like the garbage master system controllers one thats broke all the time.
Hm, I don't really know what this does at all. Roms or carts? What systems does it support? What kinda tech is it running?
@ummyeahnintendo

Nintendo did it first with the SNES so anything since then has been a deviation.
@ummyeahnintendo Nope what Nintendo did was correct. B is always on the left and A is always on the right. In a real driving game B is for brake and A is for acceleration and that's how they are located in a real vehicle. Brake will always be on the left like the B button and Acceleration will always be on the right like the A button. How Y and X are is just how B and A are.
I think I like the idea of the thing but I'm just not a fan of the hardware design, which is a huge factor imo.
Looks like every other portable game clone system thing on the market already. Pass.
@spurryitboi
Really? 20 years ago?
That’d be a year BEFORE Majora’s Mask came out.
I mean, you don’t have to like it or anything but don’t be ridiculous.
That was a time way before HD screens and before things like SMW or SMB3 was considered “retro”. Not to mention the fact that technology wasn’t even remotely able to produce anything like this.
@ummyeahnintendo Well, Nintendo are Japanese and the Japanese do read from right to left..
It has the correct NES/Game Boy/GBA button layout as opposed to the nonsense SNES layout.
Exciting! I probably won't get one but this is excellent.
Looks like a PC Engine D-Pad. It reminds of those My Arcade handhelds.
I already have a handheld device that also plugs into the tv. Make the games available on Switch, and I’ll look at buying ‘em.
Oh wow, actual photos finally! About time! Still like others have said, rather have the games on my Switch.
It this was several years ago then this would be a great development but as of now we are awash in retro goodness and it is hard for me to commit to another console when I can get nearly everything on my Switch, OG console or PC.
I remember being the only one that dug the Neo Geo X way back when it released, and I love handheld projects like this, but I can't see the appeal here. Raspberry Pis and chinese handheld devices are widely available. As for premium retro handhelds, it really doesn't get better than the Neo Geo Mini. Or now that it goes for $20, a hacked PlayStation Classic would be great for games that do not require analog controls. If you take the moral high ground and want to support the soulless publishers of these games for some reason, go ahead. But your money would be better spent on new projects old school developers are doing.
Still interesting, but still just a bit out of my price range for the system given what I already own.
It looks appalling.
HDMI out is cool, but I wish you had the option to connect a bluetooth controller when the unit is hooked to a tv.
Wow real life pictures of it at last, the XY/AB buttons look massive, does not look nice to me. I'm out...
wow do we have TROLLs or what. Now everyone thinks they are a developer here's news your not and if so why don't you make one yourself. Before everyone talks how small the Joy-Cons buttons are now they are saying it's too big. This is what I call TROLL farm posting.
