In many countries it's legal to make backups & use them in your own (non-profit or non-sharing) way. So if you care about piracy just investigate your local laws and if they allow it, buy games on cartridges, dump them (or get those dumps in any other way, as they exactly the same) & play. Also, if an emulator requires a BIOS dump you have to own an original console too before you can use it.
All that was possible in emulators for ages, and you're not limited by a horrible set of trash games. Hate piracy? Buy all games on cartridges & dump 'em.
I'm in a minority who don't buy old games twice, I still have my Wii U attached to TV & play time to time its titles, as well as some Wii's too, also have Wii for GameCube & most Wii games. I use my 3DS to play original NDS & 3DS titles, DS Lite for GBA games. I've PS3 which give me an access to libraries of PS1-2-3 & Vita for itself & PSP games. When I bought Switch it was for new decent games only. Same for my upcoming PS4 purchase - no remakes / ports / GOTY editions, I don't feed laziness. So if I ever want to replay this neat little gem, it'll be on Wii or Wii U where it's dirty cheap & not on 3DS.
LOL, what a piece of downgrade, even Wii had somehow tolerable ports of AAA games. Just look at Xenoblade 2 - that's how FF15 should look on Switch. I can only hope DQ wouldn't be a "pocket" edition.
Even Wii U had two CoDs, that trend of a lacking support by 3rd-parties is worrisome. Indies aren't a market driver & 1st/2nd-party games don't fill all demands. I hope I'm wrong but the current situation looks disastrous when most of a library are ancient ports & indies.
Still have Wii U connected to my TV, still play some awesome games, GamePad is so comfy & works for 5+ hours with an extended battery, always prefer it with an Off-TV mode to Switch when it's possible.
GCCX is a great show, Arino makes boring games so fun in his challenges, nice to see this collaboration. But MP itself isn't looks tempting for me, also those joy-cons only controls, one per a player, even with a charging grip they're so too tiny & uncomfortable, but alone in a gamepad mode are a pure pain for me.
@jobvd
Technically you're right, but those two are released in a current generation so they're new games & it's called multiplatform. That's what Nintendo needs on Switch as Wii U flopped not due to a lame first-party library or lack of indies but because of almost absent support of third-party developers. Wii, their most successful stationary device to date, had much love of major devs even if in a downgraded manner so you have as close as possible experience on it. But with Switch you miss so much that you have to buy a second console or a gaming PC.
@Mgene15
I feel your pain, man, some users can't bear negative replies, they prefer to live in a 'pony world' where all are happy despite of anything. To each their own, I don't care if they ignore me.
Some great indies are here but where're AAA titles? Not aged ports, not remakes but true new games? The start was great, with ARMS, Disgaea 5, DOOM, Fire Emblem Warriors, Super Mario Odyssey, Splatoon 2, Xenoblade 2 & some others. But why the whole next year is just Portendo Indietch? You know Nintendo, not everyone bought this console for indies & old Wii U games, why not stretch decent releases through all seasons. At least this autumn finally should move a balance of indies & ports to new AAAs.
Finally those amiibos got the release date, I thought they're cancelled after all. As for the game itself I'm glad that my Wii U copy will get both updates. That's how games should be supported, shame on you greedy Nintendo for ditching a MK8 battle mode on Wii U.
I had a blast playing MH Tri on Wii U & 3DS in local coop with my friend but that's enough of a classic, MH World is what I like now with all its QoL adjustments, improved graphics & not too grindy gameplay.
Unfortunately a text's size is still too small especially in a portable mode, I hope that'll be addressed in a future patch. But that's the only downside of this awesome title.
Switch needs a more mature autosim which isn't a shovelware at the same time, something to compete Forza & Gran Turismo. I hope Nintendo did some researches on this direction as MK8D is a lazy port and shouldn't take too much time.
Worms is one of my childhood's top hotseat multiplayer games, along with Scorched Planet & Tank Wars, glad to have W.M.D. on Switch. Overcooked is great fun too, their other titles aren't my cup of tea though.
For me Joy-Con is too small to have a comfortable d-pad on it, I'm fine with separated buttons. If I need a robust controls I use Pro Controller or even an arcade fightstick at most tough challenges.
Absolutely not interested, it was good when It came out at first on GameCube. That's where I keep my fond memories on this title & not going to ruin those impressions. Call me when there'll be a 3rd installment on Switch.
Is there a Pro Controller's support? I've two pairs of JoyCons, a couple of Pro Cons & don't want to buy more gamepads as my room is already full of all types of controllers.
Isn't this series is a trilogy? Will the 3rd installment be sold separately at full price or not come at all?
It's good to have some old good games, but what Switch really needs are new titles, AAA and AA, not only from Nintendo, its 2nd party devs & most loyal 3rd parties, but also from as much other developers as possible.
Children of Morta looks promising, but with Diablo 3 coming soon I'm not sure if I need anything else in this genre. Everspace also took my attention but there's Starlink on a horizon & again I don't need two space shooters at the same time, will have to read reviews to make a choice between these two.
And where's AAAwesome Direct? Indies are just filling gaps between big releases so I can't wait for these new reveals, not 3+ years old ports but really new games.
Switch is more & more feels like Wii U for me, almost the same AAA library 'thanks' to ports, eShop overflooded by indies, and now a poor 3rd-party support despite of inutial marketing. But I bought it mostly for new exclusives which will start to come in this fall.
It's not your Mario platformer where anyone can take controller & play, the game have a tough learning curve but once you get a snake's physiology this is a great fun. And it's also not an ancient Steam port but a recent game with a new experience which I appreciate & support.
StarCraft 64 was good enough, especially in a local multiplayer. Also Switch have touch controls in a portable mode & gyro emulating a wiimote pointer while docked. Almost perfect for any kind of strategy, also dock station have USB ports so it's not too hard to add a mouse/keyboard support for a hardcore audience. But at least we have Diablo 3 which is a great deal too.
@Cosats
For me decent titles aren't indies, especially not those which were released years & years ago on Steam. That's all shovelware for my taste, or if you prefer to extend your vocabulary - overpriced trash. That's my opinion & if you have another just tell it without that dumb 'your vocabulary' offense, or else you looks kind of [removed].
Another week full of a shovelware, there's also a decent but already played to death on 3DS MH & after MH: World it's hard for me to return to original concepts, too many QoL changes there.
I mostly play offline, alone or in a local coop, the only title I care is Splatoon 2 which I'm already played enough so run only on Splatfests once per month or so. All other Nintendo games aren't so fun for me with strangers, I better call for my family or friends to share joycons. So even if the price is low, I can't justify throwing money on occasional once per month sessions. Also absolutely not interested in cloud saves or dusty NES games, more likely I'll softmod my console to gain a save manager and emulators, if I ever need them at all.
That's stupid, trading a box without a cartridge, a value of a physical copy is totally missed. In recent generations games lost beautiful manuals, now quite often they require downloads before you can actually play, & next is lack of a media at all. I'm totally fine with my limited edition copy + season pass, without a plastic case & printed cover for extra 10$.
@Orpheus79V It's a matter of a personal taste, I find first two entries' gameplay dated too much for a direct port & wish for remakes with an improved QoL stuff.
