Shame they chose regular Zen Pinball 3D over one of the other 3DS ones though. I'm not a huge fan of Zen, but would have gladly taken one I don't already have for free.
So I just got it, cause I've always really liked this game, but I think I've found a big bug. Can anyone else play multiplayer while the system is in tabletop mode? Player 2's controller can't seem to do anything in the game when undocked (It can still take screenshots and control the home menu, however).
Edit: Just realized this only occurs if there are Joy-Con connected to the sides of the Switch. Player 2 can only control with whichever Joy-Con is physically connected to the left side of the Switch for some reason, even if a disconnected joy-con is set to be player 2.
This is incredible, and there's one more interesting thing to note. HAL programmed the Switch OS, did they not? And HAL his where Iwata got his start in the industry. Some of the people who made the OS and put this in it may have been some of the first people to know and work alongside Iwata, and knowing that just makes this tribute feel all the more personable.
As I mentioned in the previous MSU1 article, this guy is remastering the DKC soundtrack by basically figuring out which synths were used to create the samples used in the final games, creating high quality samples of those, and then replacing the original soundfonts with the new, high quality ones. It really sounds just like the originals, but with CD quality audio.
I'll get Mario Bros. and Punch-Out for sure! I hope we get some more obscure titles though, like Popeye, Sheriff, and Sky Skipper (Censored, of course! ). This also reminded me that we're long overdue for a new Game & Watch Gallery. Plus, I'd love to get some Game & Watch style Joy-Cons, too, seeing as they have the directional buttons similar to some G&W games:
It's done. I finally know what it is. I can let go of the suspense of wondering if it might just be a Kirby Air Ride sequel...
sigh
But honestly, I really didn't think they would release another strictly Kirby fighting game, seeing as they released Kirby Fighters Deluxe not too long ago.
That is the worst minigame in Mario Party history. I thought this was a top 100!
I do wonder though, since it doesn't look like there will be boards, how many different modes there will be. Hope it's not just a basic mini-game VS. mode.
This is awesome! Worms has been one of my most wanted games on Switch pretty much since the system was announced. I came away from yesterday's presentation somewhat disappointed as none of the games shown really excited me, but this has me pretty hyped!
Part of me was kind of hoping this was a Kirby Air Ride clone... I know it wouldn't have been any good regardless, but still would have been interesting at the very least.
Oh neat. There's actually a guy (https://twitter.com/PrinceSamlet) doing CD quality restorations of the DKC soundtracks, by basically finding the original synths used to create the samples used in the original games, and then replacing the original samples with the unfiltered synths. Basically it results in tracks sounding just like they would have if the SNES supported CD quality audio. It would be awesome to mod DKC 1 and 2 to have those play instead of the originals!
Aww man, I didn't think it would end this soon... I've always really enjoyed Miiverse, and like others here I've also used it quite a bit to take screenshots on 3DS. This will also be a pretty big blow to the SmileBASIC community since everyone uses Miiverse to take screenshots of their games/programs. Hopefully a Switch version of SB will be made some time.
It will be missed for sure, and Twitter isn't really a viable replacement because there are plenty of things I've posted to Miiverse that I wouldn't post to Twitter. It's just not the same audience.
Also, I haven't seen anyone (Not even that page from Nintendo) mention that Game & Wario's Miiverse Sketch will also become unusable, which is really sad since that was a really fun, really crazy mode.
@jariw Yeah, but why wouldn't they show games releasing in 2018? The pic says summer 2017, but summer 2017 is pretty much over, so obviously there will be games shown that are coming out later.
Y'know I was about to state how I really don't think a d-pad Joy-Con should happen because it defeats the purpose of the Joy-Con, but then I saw the SNES Joy-Con in the article... I never thought about replacing the stick, instead of the buttons, with a d-pad! Now that would be a perfect compromise! A set of Joy-Cons where the sticks are replaced with d-pads would still allow for multiplayer. I'd love something like that for PuyoPuyo Tetris and many other multiplayer games on Switch!
I will say though, I haven't had any issues using the directional buttons playing Sonic Mania. My thumb naturally moves to the right places.
I'll definitely be getting Sonic Mania. I actually haven't been following it very closely though, and I didn't know the release date, so when I saw it here I got really hyped for a moment because I thought it was coming out today... Oh well, I'll just play some Sonic 3 & Knuckles to keep me busy!
Also, why is it so many games are releasing on Tuesdays now?
I've been interested in a GBC backlit screen mod for a while now. I was surprised when I first found out that none were available. I'd definitely be interested, but only if a more affordable and less hacky solution was found. I certainly don't want to chop up the plastic or risk shorting a board.
@Pod I don't think Nintendo will be done with Miis anytime soon. With Miitomo they added even more options for Mii creation, and in this game they added Mii Central, which I could definitely see being used in other apps or games to easily share Miis. While I definitely don't think they should be as prominent as they were during the Wii era, it's still an awesome feature to have that gets good use in a lot of games.
I absolutely loved the demo so I'll be picking this up tomorrow for sure. Glad to see it got a great score. I was hoping the review would talk about sprinkles though. Does the game ever get challenging enough to where properly managing your sprinkles becomes crucial, or does it end up being so easy you'll never really have to use them all up in a battle?
I think the main problem with Amiibo is that they're kind of... too late. Like, they would have been cooler before online and so much easy portability. Say, for example, a Pokéball Amiibo that you can save your team to and then take it with you and use it to battle friends. Sounds awesome right?! Well, it would be, except nowadays we have portable systems and online. If you have a 3DS, why use the Amiibo if you can just keep your 3DS in your pocket? If you have a Switch, well, same issue. The only case where I can see this coming in handy is with something like the Wii U, where you can't easily take it with you places. Thing is the Wii U is dead now...
Saving a Mario Maker level to an Amiibo or using an Animal Crossing Amiibo as a suitcase, for example, are two more ideas rendered obsolete with the portability of current Nintendo systems. Mario Maker levels can be shared via local wireless/online, and Animal Crossing can also be played together via local wireless/online.
Yup, not ready yet. That said, looking at the description on the app intro and app store page... I see no mention of any sort of messaging system. Just voice chat. I can't imagine there would be no messaging system, but I guess this is Nintendo...
Can't wait for Miitopia! I couldn't get enough of the demo, and the full game looks to have a pretty hefty amount of content. The battle system also has potential for a good amount of depth and strategy (With managing sprinkles) as long as the game gets more challenging later on.
I really don't understand why people were getting their hopes so high for this game. I never saw anything that made it look like it was changing anything from the past few mediocre Sonic games.
Honestly, I don't think it's that ugly. I think the main problem is that it's a completely different style from like, every other Switch game icon, so it sticks out like a sore thumb.
Also, what's really dumb is that they refuse to change it back. Surely it didn't cost them very much to design a blue tile and slap existing artwork of Noodle onto it, right?
Wait what. Super Mario Kart?! I mean, it's great, but why would that be picked over any other Mario Kart, maybe barring Super Circuit (Although I did really enjoyed SC).
Also, seeing Kirby Air Ride on there is incredible and really surprising. Although I kind of wish people would stop seeing it as a racing game and more as a... Well, I'm not sure what genre You would give City Trial, but it certainly wouldn't be racing.
Wow, that's awesome, especially seeing Star Fox 2 getting released. I'm actually kind of interested in this for that reason alone. I'm pretty disappointed Donkey Kong Country 2 isn't there, though. It's among Super Metroid and Yoshi's Island as one of the very best games on the system. DKC1 is great, but not even close to 2. That said, I already have a SNES and a copy of DKC2 so... I guess the lack of it doesn't affect me much, just seems weird to leave it out.
Huh, I'm probably one of the very few who really enjoys Balloon Fight and has never played SMB3, so those games will be a nice bonus. Never really got into Dr. Mario, but I can't complain about another puzzle game!
And yeah, $20 a year is an excellent price. Hopefully it will be enough for Nintendo to bring some long needed features to the service.
Speaking of which, hopefully the delay is because of the feedback Nintendo has seen from Switch owners and they've decided to make some changes. Probably not, but would be nice.
Aagh! Why you do this to me Nintendo Life! If I had noticed the sub text before seeing the article title I would have had a heart attack.
If we're not going to get KAR2 though, then yeah I definitely at least want some Kirby DLC for MK8. Bring back A KAR track, make a City Trial battle map, and top it off with a Wheelie Scooter bike, and of course Kirby characters. Seems like a no brainer to me. (And something that isn't a pipedream!)
I was having these issues. After the update I played Minecraft for a couple of hours and it seemed to be resolved. Hopefully it is fixed and it wasn't just a coincidence I didn't have any issues.
I absolutely love the look of these, especially the colors. (Back and cyan is probably my favorite color scheme) I use the 3D all the time though, so if I ever decide to upgrade to a New 3DS, I'll have to pass on this one.
Good grief, I had no idea the console edition had limited world sizes. Even the larger 5120x5120 block size the PS4 and XBOX One versions have doesn't sound big enough to me, let alone 864x864... That's a deal breaker for me, I'll just stick to the PC version.
David Wise is easily my most favorite composer of all time, and his work an inspiration to me. I've been dabbling in music composition, which is something I don't think I would have been interested in without ever hearing his music.
I'd say the Joy-Con wrist strap issue is a valid complaint. The fact you can put them on the wrong way is one thing, but the fact that removing them after doing so is super difficult and can possibly damage the controller is another. That's rediculous for something so easy to do by accident.

I'd say the Joy-Con wrist strap issue is a valid complaint. The fact you can put them on the wrong way is one thing, but the fact that removing them after doing so is super difficult and can possibly damage the controller is another. That's rediculous for something so easy to do by accident.
