A few days ago, we reported on My Nintendo in Europe adding four free games—two on 3DS, two on Wii U—to its Gold Rewards, something that has been much requested in the past months. While it may be that many decried the specific games being offered, it at least shows that there’s some effort on Nintendo’s side to make the program more appealing to consumers. Now, My Nintendo in North America has followed suit, adding in its own selection of four games.
The games on offer are as follows:
Nintendo 3DS:
- Super Little Acorns 3D Turbo: 60 Gold Points
- Zen Pinball 3D: 50 Gold Points
Wii U:
- BIT.TRIP Presents… Runner2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien: 90 Gold Points
- Art of Balance: 70 Gold Points
There's certainly come great games on offer here, though some of them are pretty old in video game industry years. Still, if you haven't gotten any of these yet, now's as good a time as any.
What do you think? Will you be picking any of these up? How long do you think it’ll be before Nintendo adds Switch rewards? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Oh goody, nothing I'm interested in, sadly
Runner2 for me.
yuck
Oh....
Zen pinball was pretty decent but I'm not seeing any must have games here.
Gotta love MyNintendo. It's sooo much better than Club Nintendo right? Right?? (Forces smile)
Dear Nintendo... anyone still playing WiiU and 3DS (including myself) has already purchased these ancient games, if interested... thanks.
I will pass. I am saving all my coins in the hope that the Nintendo Switch rewards come out... some day.
Better than discounts, yet it's still...lacking.
I did miss those 2 games to be honest, and it's definitely an improvement over ridiculous discounts. That being said, it still needs a lot to improve. Besides, I think these prices were available for Europe about 3 months ago.
@Heavyarms55 You should check when will your coins expire.
It's nice to see games, but I own three of these and am uninterested in the fourth. Keep the game offers coming and I'm sure I'll find something eventually.
Slowly, slowly... slowly.
Nothing for Switch. Sheesh. I've gone from 3000 Platinum points to 990 points in just 6 months. No point.
This is definitely a step in the right direction, I may end up picking up Runner2 since I have really no other use for my Gold coins at the moment.
To be fair, they did say NX wasn’t going to be a Wii U replacement... right? Right??
@Heavyarms55 Just be careful they don't expire on you. A mediocre reward beats no reward... theoretically.
Well, don't own Runner 2, so... I'll take it!
Shame they chose regular Zen Pinball 3D over one of the other 3DS ones though. I'm not a huge fan of Zen, but would have gladly taken one I don't already have for free.
Cool! I like that they added game rewards. I hope they add Switch stuff soon.
Not great, Just drop the program. Either Yes - No- in the middle squash like grape
Switch games, please
The Switch section has been 'coming soon' for...how long now? I'd def use my coins up if that finally came about. The only one of these I'd have considered is Zen Pinball and I already own that(on 3DS).
That's nice. Now please expand the options of what's available, also, add Switch rewards.
And why do gold coins expire so fast? I had 100 now I only have 50 and I've spent none.
Wake me up when they add switch. Thanks.
i've got 130 gold coins i'm not using, might as well assuming i've got space for them
The upside is these aren't tied to your account, so you can get the code and at least give it to a friend if you're in danger of having your coins expire.
(Which is why one friend is happy right now w/ Runner 2, and another w/ Zen 3D.)
Ohh that's exciting to see free games..... Lets hope they add switch rewards as well here, cause I'm saving my coins for that,...... Hopefully my coins don't expire before then. ._.
Of course they would finally add games a month after I decide to spend coins on the Pikmin theme, due to there being no games to redeem the gold coins on.
Now I really want Zen Pinball 3D, but I'm a few coins short...
The recent european offer of Nano Assault Neo and Tokitori was a really nice surprise... so hold onto those gold coins for now, the goods are incoming
Still waiting for Switch specific rewards....
Still nο Nintendo Switch rewards after six months? Hard earned points that disappear and crappy discounts. This is not fun at all just sad.
@Stuffgamer1 @roy130390 Honestly, the fact the coins expire is ludicrous. I'm sure I'm not in the minority waiting for Switch rewards...what happens if they come AFTER my coins expire? I just miss the t-shirts, yoshi strap bags, posters, and the myriad of other awesome physical rewards of the old system. Man, I love my Switch, but the degradation of everything else they're doing (cough voice chat cough) is borderline insulting as a dedicated Nintendo fan of 30 years.
These were the four titles offered in Europe last month, Yes? Happy to see My Nintendo now offering free games but unless they are of more value (more expensive Nindies or retail titles for Wii U/3DS) or better still, Switch games, My Nintendo remains an incredibly disappointing rewards service.
I end up picking up everything they release for gold coins because I have so many. I filled up my 3ds sd card with the 3d movies that should have been free for everyone (kid Icarus, pikmin, Kirby). I still have gold coins expiring too. As I look around my office and see posters, calendars, and other various Nintendo items I earned back in the day it really makes me sad that they don't even give enough cool gold coin stuff that I can spend mine on.
I must be the only person who likes the new reward scheme. The only bad thing is the coins for discounts - but a few have been worth doing for games that don't go on sale ever.
@Stuffgamer1 That's fair, but a reward I am not likely to ever use isn't really worth it anyway.
@crackafreeze
I can agree with that, seems a little crazy. It usually forces me to spend them on 3DS themes, which I don't mind. But gold coins are annoying when they expire for sure.
Why would your points expire, thats pretty greedy tbh lol I only have a Switch so i wont be needing any of the WI U or DS games :/
Gold coins don't expire for 2 years so it's not so bad. Switch rewards will arrive along with the online subscription at the latest. If you were a Wii U owner the last 2 years there wasn't exactly tons of new games to buy so chances are any gold points you have are small. Since Switch has arrived though it's a different story, games are coming thick and fast. Between my UK and US accounts I have 1080 gold points. But I feel comfortable knowing most won't expire until sometime in 2019.
OH MY GOD THEY'RE SO BAD
Waste of time collecting coins really.
@Pahvi I didn't realise that, I thought it was extended in the past from 1 year to 2 years.Instead it was extended from 6 month to 1 year.
Aaaand no Switch games.....
Seriously, why is the Switch not getting anything? yeppee!!! free games for my old console.
If I got a Gold Coin for every time I logged in to My Nintendo and then logged straight back out...
I hope we will finally see Switch games rewards before Switch sucessor, but please, not things like Vroom in the night sky or 5% discounts on games that everyone already owns
Well these are way better than the European rewards. To anyone who doesn't already own Art of Balance: get it immediately, it's absolutely worth it (single- and multiplayer)!
@amishpyrate You must be joking! Art of Balance is one of the best Wii U indie titles and a total must-have.
Runner2 is also a decent indie game.
And to everyone asking for Switch rewards: you don't seem to get how Nintendo views the reward system. They only offer rewards if they'te not worth it. In other words: as long as the whole world hasn't bought a Switch and all games on it, there will be no Switch rewards.
Buy all the Switch games, only then will Nintendo give you rewards (when you don't need them anymore).
The reason is simple: if you buy a game, Nintendo profits. If you get it for free, they don't. That seems to be their logic...
It's a start, which is good.
But I down both WiiU games, Acorn game is of no interest, and I"M not playing a pinball game on a small screen like the 3DS.
But again, it's a start.
This is pretty cool. Not for everyone, but hopefully they now realize those discounts are getting them nowhere.
Just as everyone else said, Switch 'support' please ... anything else at this point is kinda moot to me.
This is a TINY step in the right direction.
It's nice to have something to spend those gold coins on that isn't a 3DS theme.
"There's certainly come great games on offer here"
I think that's supposed to be "some".
Honestly, that is what I asked for. Free games for gold points, and I don't have the 3DS games. I would be happier with a Dragon Quest for 100 gold points or something like that, but at least Nintendo is going in the right direction...
Nothing for me. They should make some new rewards for platinum coins. I have more of those than gold coins.
@shani I'd agree... if the very same games weren't also available in Europe. Art of Balance for example: https://my.nintendo.com/rewards/8932f1fce34ada96
Only available until 1st October in Europe though, because they were released quite a while ago already.
I'm not into runners, but since it's free I guess I'll pick up Runner 2.
Great... nothing of interests to me on 3DS.... and rewards for a system I won't touch again until one day I want that nostalgic feeling of playing it again..... which won't happen for many many years from now....
Why is Nintendo so slow with ANYTHING Switch?!? Are they waiting to launch switch rewards once they launch the online paid service next year?
@Heavyarms55 I bought Little Acorns last night only because I had 60 gold coins that were going to expire this month. I should've waited to register all of my Switch carts...
Glad to see that the rewards are starting to get a bit better. I never got Runner 2 but heard great things about it, so this is a perfect opportunity for me to get it for free!
I just spent my coins to get a Pandora's Tower discount, but I'm glad to see they brought back games. Yay!
garbage...
Still no Switch games -_-
The Art of Balance one would've been nice, but I don't intend to keep using my Wii U by the time either a) Netflix comes to Switch and/or b) an Internet Browser comes to Switch and/or c) They cut all server activity for the Wii U, or in other words, once the Wii U is 100% put out to pasture, so buying this would be a waste of money for me. Now, the Zen Pinball 3D is decent. Though I'm retiring the ol' 3DS, it'll still get very light here and there use, and I love pinball (and even more specifically the Zen Pinball games). I'll go ahead and scoop that one up.
@ECMIM Actually, that's a really good point. I may well redeem some gold coins for Nano Assault which is currently on offer in the UK (European regions?) as despite already owning it on 3DS, I could give it to my son for his 2DS. I've actually been doing that a lot for DS Themes in the past. But still, pretty slim pickings. Nintendo could make this so much more competitive - tie it in with the paid subscription service if they have too or implement an in-game achievements set of challenges with gives rewards and offer more DLC for games for free. Whilst not the same thing, The 'Friends of Nintendo' Humble Bundles have been so much better in terms of quality than any of these Nintendo rewards. Even the 'Just for You' discounts they send you on your birthday are redundant as all the games (if you don't already own them), can be bought physically from the likes of Amazon cheaper than digital with with the percentage off on the Nintendo eShop. Same happens with their sales over Xmas. That is so bloody frustrating.
@lifer Huh, that's strange, the email I got from Nintendo today only mentioned Tengami and XType Plus.
Oh wait, so Art of Balance has been available as a reward for a while? Didn't realize that or probably just forgot since I already got the game many years ago. ^^
I really wish there were more useful rewards, like paying for the Nintendo Online Services in 2018.
Not interested in any of these. Seriously, ditch the digital rewards and go back to limited edition physical collectibles that Club N used to offer. My Nintendo is such a joke.
A step in the right direction... But miles away from where we want to be.
MyNintendo is still my major disappoint for Nintendo as a company. They have yet to give fans anything worthy of purchasing. In the meantime, I keep losing coins every month because there is nothing to spend them on.
I have every 3DS theme and Nintendo wallpaper. The stupid coming soon has been stuck on the Switch for over six months.
Getting reeeeeaaaaaal tired of there not being any Switch downloads in these rewards.
Eh, it's a start. But it still needs a lot more.
I’ll just continue to let my coins expire until some decent rewards come along
I've given up wishing/hoping for decent rewards
Runner2 -is- nice, but we not only do not want to load anything new on our Wii U, but we already purchased this via the Humble Nindies Bundle.
Well, I had 30 gold coins expire September 30, so I hope I spend it wisely on Super Little Acorns 3D Turbo. From the review it looks like my kind of game where the difficulty comes from trying to collect/achieve everything, but at it's core it's not to difficult.
