Re: Review: 1-2-Switch (Switch)

mystman12

Yup, that's about what I expected. I'd love to give Quick Draw a shot, and try out the HD rumble, but like I've said before there's no way I'm $50 for that. Hopefully it won't be long before the game's price drops.

Re: Video: Nintendo Minute Manages to Enjoy 1-2-Switch, Even While Sober

mystman12

You know, normally when I see more of something, I start to like it more. When I see more of this... I start to like it less.

I was planning on buying 1-2-Switch, but this video was actually the last straw for me. I had initially hoped that some of the unrevealed games would be really good, and I was excited to play the Showdown minigame and try the HD rumble, but that's about it, and each new minigame I see just looks terrible one way or another. How on earth do games like Boxing Gym, Runway, and Air Guitar even calculate your score? I don't have any problems looking like an idiot playing a game, as long as I know what I'm doing. I look at Runway and think, "How does the game calculate my score here? How does it decide who makes the best pose? I only have one controller in my hand, so is moving the rest of my body even necessary?"

And then there are games like Treasure Chest and Phone that have as much depth as microgames... The reason minigames are fun in games like Mario Party is because those minigames aren't (usually) the focus, so they offer a nice change of pace, and your performance in those minigames has consequences that affect your progress towards a greater goal. Nobody ever starts up a Mario Party game and says, "Alright, let's pick and choose a bunch of minigames to play!" They either play a party or a minigame tournament, where winning a minigame still helps a player work towards a larger goal. The reason microgames are fun in a game like WarioWare is because those games only last for four to eight seconds, and are constantly changing, and again, your performance in a microgame has consequences that affect your larger goal: getting as many points as possible. I don't get excited for every microgame I beat, I get excited once I get close to and beat the high score.

For $50, all I'd be getting out of this is a duel game and an HD rumble tech demo, and now that so many great looking multiplayer indies have been announced, I don't feel like I need to buy this just to have a multiplayer game anymore. I'd still like to try it out sometime, but I'll wait for a major sale or price drop before I do.

Re: Nintendo Unleashes a Nintendo Switch Infographic of Confirmed Nindie Games

mystman12

@BinaryFragger @buildz Thank goodness. You know, there was once a time when I kind of had respect for RCMADIAX, and wanted to see him succeed, because he kept saying he was only making the smaller games to stay afloat while he worked on a really good big game. That "really good" game was Super Robo Mouse, and not only was it a bad game, but you can tell he didn't actually put any heart or effort into it. That's when I lost all respect for the guy. Looking at those new Tweets is just ridiculous. He claims that Nintendo gave early access to the indies that crapped on the Wii U... Actually, most of these developers did have great games on Wii U, and the ones that didn't simply let it alone. RCMADIAX on the other hand... He certainly left a lot of crap on the Wii U eShop.

OH MY GOSH! Toejam and Earl! I didn't even notice it the first time! Overcooked and the new Toejam and Earl were both games I really wanted and are both absolutely perfect fits for the Switch!

I've never been so excited for so many indies in my life! The Switch is starting to look like it very well be the best console out there for indie games!

Re: Poll: Does Nintendo Switch Need Streaming Apps and a Web Browser, Or Is It All About Games?

mystman12

You know I voted mostly that I didn't really care either way, but now that I think about it, having the ability to watch Netflix and YouTube on my Switch anywhere in the house would be way better than on my iPod Touch because the Switch has such a large screen! It wouldn't be quite as high resolution, but I think the larger size would make up for that. I definitely want an internet browser as well. The Wii U has a very good one and I've used it quite a lot. So, Netflix and a good browser would be awesome, and a YouTube app wouldn't be necessary if the browser plays YouTube videos well enough.

Re: Talking Point: The Nintendo 3DS, A System That Still Has a Role to Play

mystman12

I hope the 3DS still has a few years left in its life, and I hope after that Nintendo releases another portable console. I really don't want to see portable gaming die off, and the Switch really won't be able to replace it properly.

Still, sadly I feel like mobile gaming is going to kill off dedicated portable systems, and that Nintendo won't be able to compete any longer if they try to release a new portable.

Re: Here's a Breakdown of All That Swapdoodle DLC

mystman12

The fact that things like different sized pens, ink capacity, and on system storage space are locked by in-app purchases is terrible. SwapNote had all that and guess what- It was all free.

These features have no reason to be locked behind a paywall, especially a $6.99 one. That's insane. If it was two bucks I'd consider biting but I'm not going to support this at that price.

Re: Video: Someone Has Solved Super Mario 64's Impossible Coin Mystery

mystman12

I've been watching tons of these videos lately. Especially since I want to be a programmer I find them really interesting. These impossible coin videos are my favorite, however, especially this one. The fact that he has discovered even just a tiny bit of history about what very likely happened during the game's development is fascinating to me.

Re: Review: Mario Party: Star Rush (3DS)

mystman12

YESH! I've actually been really, really hyped for this game, so I'm really happy to see it get a good score. I'm sure it won't be another Mario Party 2 or 3, but it still looks really fun and would be a good way to mix things up.

Plus, it seems to show Nintendo has listened to our complaints over previous games in the series, and I want to support that. They brought back items (that aren't special dice), board events, coins and stars, and actual strategy and the ability to move on our own! (The last of which should have been a no brainer.)

I'm going to take off work and buy this the day it comes out. Hopefully my friends and I will be able to spend some of the weekend playing this!

Aaaand now I return to my break from the internet... Hopefully I won't be gone much longer, just need to finish up some important stuff... Or the NX will be announced... Whichever comes first.

Re: Feature: Ten of Our Favourite DSiWare Games

mystman12

Petit Computer is easily my most favorite app on the DSi Shop. It's practically changed my whole life as it got me into some real programming and now I'm trying to pursue that as my career. Not to mention my game Revenge of the Crazy Baby is probably pretty life changing as well.

Pinball Pulsee is also one of my favorites. I know once said this multiple times but ranks among my most favorite pinball games, including real life tables. Just a great ruleset with a great design, and of course the physics are some of the very best, surpassing both Zen and The Pinball Arcade in my opinion.

Then there's Photo Dojo, the Game and Watch games, AiRace Tunnel... Heck I even had a lot of fun with I am in the movie. DSi Ware may have been limited in a lot of ways, but it definitely still had some brilliant games.

Re: Review: Games For Toddlers (Wii U eShop)

mystman12

I really hope Skunk Software is just a group of guys making these games as a form of satire for the kind of junk that gets released on the eShop. I still can't get over the fact they're called Skunk Software... Everything they've done seems like some joke game I would make... Like, one joke game I've made is called The Epic Elevator Adventure by Epic Entertainment. And honestly it's probably better than some of Skunk's stuff.

Re: Review: JACKPOT 777 (Wii U eShop)

mystman12

@buildz Exactly how I feel. I never bought any of his games, but I never really thought badly of him, especially since he kept saying the small games were just a way for him to make money while he worked on bigger, better projects like Super Robo Mouse. So when that game turned out to be trash, I pretty much lost any respect I had. And it's not like the game was trash made with effort, it really just looked overall lazy and extremely unpolished. The level design was bland and repetitive. It just didn't seem like any care really went into the game and I really can't respect a developer who creates games for making money and nothing else.

Re: Tadpole Treble Releases on Wii U on 11th August

mystman12

@Not_Soos I think that's just one of the game's music notes, but yeah, I guess Matthew Taranto probably drew Kirby sucking stuff up so much he could probably accidentally draw it without even trying now. Brawl in the Family is a great webcomic, btw. You should definitely check it out if you haven't.

Anyways, I'm certainly looking forward to playing the game! I should be getting a copy as a Kickstarter reward, and I've also got the nice baton plush! (Which sits right next to my Dededoll! )

Re: Review: 101 Pinball World (DSiWare)

mystman12

I bought it. I couldn't find any footage of the game, and I had to see it for myself... So I bought it.

The review isn't ovrrexagerating, not even about the music. It's that bad. I'm going to have to upload the soundtrack.

Also, can't believe no one mentioned Pinball Pulse: The Ancients Beckon. Same price, same platform, and it's a masterpiece, still one of my favorite pinball games to date. It has an amazing playfield design, a good, deep rule set, lots of cool toys, and some of the best physics in any game I've ever played. (Yes, I'd even say the physics are better than the Pinball Arcade and Zen Pinball, but the game was developed by the same people who made the classic Pro Pinball games so you really wouldn't expect any less!) Probably the only problem with the game is that once you play it a lot, it can feel a bit too easy where you pretty much always end up with a long game, but still the game has so much to offer it remains fun the entire time!

Re: Review: 153 Hand Video Poker (Wii U eShop)

mystman12

I'm honestly wondering if Skunk Software is actually just a group of guys purposefully making terrible games as a form of satire. I mean, I still can't get over the fact they named the company Skunk Software! With that name they are basically saying "Our games stink!"

Plus, I could literally make this in SmileBASIC or something if I wanted to. I could do it with 1000 hands... Heck, I could do it so the player could choose how many hands they wanted to compete against. Adding goals and high scores would be a cinch. There's just no excuse for software like this costing money if a spare time, amateur programmer like myself could recreate it.

Re: First Impressions: Exploring Whether Toad is a Fungi in Mario Party Star Rush

mystman12

Oh boy, this sounds good! I really hope ends up being a fun entry in the Mario Party series. Even if it doesn't live up to games like Mario Party 3 and 2, I'll probably still buy it to mix things up a little.
Also, being portable is a big plus in my opinion. Everyone I would want to play with owns a 3DS, and it's super easy to play on long trips. I've got good memories plating Mario Party DS in the car... And then someone getting angry and shutting off their DS, ending the entire party.
