After multiple decades in the home console gaming business, Nintendo's library of beloved games are etched in the memories of players across the planet. Most of us will never forget the first time we plugged that shiny new Super Mario World cartridge in the Super Nintendo's slot, or the magical holiday season when we first stepped out into Kokiri Forest in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
Well, we hope you remember because that's the subject of this little quiz! Below we've collected 15 classic Nintendo games together with multiple options as to the year they were first released. Fair warning: read the questions carefully! We've switched the territory with a few of them to keep things spicy. You wouldn't want it to be too easy, would you?
So, can you remember when these Nintendo games debuted?

For being absolutely atrocious at remembering dates I think a 7 is pretty decent
8/15 not fair 😨....... I don't want to say much but Nintendolife made me say this.
11/15.. I was always 1 off each time ...aaagh...
5. Ouch. Release dates never were my strong suit.
I have no excuse. Most of these games have their published years on the title screen, or the screens leading up to the title screen. I will take my 6/15 and see myself out.
Dates are tough, I got an 8 out of 15
6/15, I was always narrowing it down to two and picking the wrong one...
4/15. Reminds me of when I didn't study for tests in high school.
10/15
Interestingly I got all the stuff right that came after I got into games but stuff that was before that, e.g. the original Super Mario Bros release date, I was way out.
9/15
Brawl in The Family's "The History of Nintendo" helped me out a little bit with this one.
11 out of 15. At least I got all the European releases right...
I got 10. Weird, because I usually reference years (birthdates, etc) by which Nintendo products came out that year.
7/10. Nasty one this week. Changing region was particularly mean.
14/15 . I did wrong mario kart one.
9 ! I only really knew the Mario ones and more recent ones...
11/15, surprised by that score.
A long time ago I was super interested in what years certain games were released, so naturally I aced this. Good work NintendoLife!
10 out of 15. Ok
Completely forgot n64 came out in the same year in Japan and the US.
5 / 15.
"0-5: Look, I even wasn't born for half of these, okay?!"
I wish I could use that as an excuse. I think Nintendo was still making Hanafuda cards in a hotel when I was born.
12/15. Not bad.
@doctorhino Same here. I spent all my youth thinking the 32-bit era began in 1995, before learning some years ago that the Playstation and Saturn were released in 1994 in Japan. To this day it still feels weird to think that Japanese gamers were playing Playstation games the same year Sonic 3 was released. I guess the strong impression "over-corrected" my thoughts so that I believed the N64 was released a year earlier there, too.
I have a marvelous head for dates, but I rushed through it a bit too quickly. 11/15.
11/15 ..not bad but not great :c
I guessed on all of these. How do people remember dates?
14/15
The only one I got wrong was 1080 Snowboarding. Which is sad because I bought that game on day one.
Ouch 3/15...and I was born in 1959; shame on me
I also only got 3 but I live in the UK so I think it was kind of unfair to anyone outside of the US. Funny enough, I knew the Japan release dates but it got to the point where I was just answering blindly for all the good it did me.
So I got Brain Training, Star Fox, The OG Super Mario's Bros, 1080 and Yoshi wrong. Also got Mario 3D Land wrong because I thought it said World. The rest I got the European dates on the US ones because I looked about 8 months ago at the wiki for them all. I remember wondering why the gap between the 2 continents (Jap and Europe) were so large. So I'm counting it as a 10 of 15. Thought this was written mostly by UK writers, what gives?
6/15 I really suck lol
6/15 and most of it were picked randomly.
10/15 and the only one I knew for sure was Majora's Mask.
9 out of 15, and I guessed on all of them. I love a lot of these games, but I'm absolutely clueless on release dates.
13 guesses a few xx
12.
I got tripped on the Mario 64 Japanese release and took a guess on Brain age and Nintendogs.
10/15. Struggled with the more recent games, oddly enough!
14 out of 15. This is the best I've done on one of these NL quizzes. Go me!
Do they not know Wikipedia exists?
Not being from the US or Japan made this quiz a little harder I think.
9/15. The second half really tricked me.
This was a good and hard one only got 6 right.
“0-5: Look, I even wasn't born for half of these, okay?!“
Hahaha I was born before them all! I’m just stupid lol!
(But so is the person who wrote that prompt lol!)
6/15. But at the wrong answers I was only 1 to 3 years of, so I'll give myself a 11/15. 😤
6/15
It’s bad but I know the uk dates
12 out of 15 here. A winner is me!
12/15, the games I got wrong are the more recent ones actually, but then again I was never into Nintendogs or Brain Training. Super Mario 3D Land I should have gotten right though. For some reason I thought it didn't come out the same year as the console.
9/15. Looking at the comments at least I'm not alone.
14/15. Forgot Yoshi's Island came out in 1995.
11/15. Interestingly, the most recent release was the only one I was off by more than 1 year. I guess short term memory loss is real for old fogies like myself.
13 out of 15 for me, not too bad, not too bad
5 out of 15!!! That will learn me for grumbling how easy the Zelda quiz was.
Pointless quiz if you're not from "Merica"
6/15. Dates are not my strong point. I remembered a few so I doubt even being alive/playing games for earlier titles would have helped.
5/15 because i confused japan release dates with US
6/15. i can't believe that i forgot when Super Mario 3D Land was released
8 outta 15. My Nintendo knowledge could be sharper.
@ummyeahnintendo I can only really remember based on if I played the game when it came out so for instance I instantly knew Nintendogs in the US was 2005 because I got it for Christmas that year. Same for Mario 3D Land in 2011. Others from the 80s and 90s I got close but was usually like a year off.
Hey, Nintendo Life, I don't know if it's been done already or not, but what about an obscure Nintendo characters quiz?
14/15
I answer wrong for the Brain Age.
12/15 I struggled with some of the more recent ones
5/15, I guessed on every single one lol
"You scored 1 out of 15."
Only got Tetris right. Fkng casual.
14, I messed up on the Super Mario Kart Japan release date. The rest I knew immediately. Except for Brain Age, I had to think about that one.
Every one of the "in Japan" games, were released the same year in Japan and the US.
9/15 is a heck of a lot better than I expected to do on this.
8/15 better than I expected, a few tricky ones in there
I got 3 but in my defence I live in the UK and not Japan or US
I almost ran the negative table, and until I got one right and spoiled it. 1/15
How do I know when games were released in the US? Maybe the quiz should of been restricted to the very first release of the game - ie, Japan. That might be broader for a full audience.
only 6/15 very bad
7/15. I wasn't old enough to actually buy games for myself until like 2010 so honestly anything before that I'm kind of at a loss for the release date.
11/15. Nice to get one of these where I have to rely on my best estimate.
7/15 felt like I kept getting one year off haha, was a hard one.
7/15 Tho im surprised sice I hardly pay attention to release dates
9 out of 15...could have been worse.
