Nintendo has just rounded off the third of its Nintendo Direct Mini Partner Showcases, with a focus on third-party titles coming to Switch. During the presentation, the lid was lifted on Monster Hunter Rise, Monster Hunter Stories 2, Fitness Boxing 2 and Ori And The Will Of The Wisps.
While many fans are hopeful that the company will return to the full-fat Direct broadcasts the company is known for – especially as COVID-19 has wiped out gaming events like E3, during which these presentations would normally take place – it would seem that the 'Mini' format is here to stay, at least for 2020.
During the presentation, it was confirmed that we'll be getting more small-scale Partner Showcases this year, although it wasn't clear precisely how many will be coming.
The ongoing pandemic has clearly caused havoc with Nintendo's schedule this year, which is no doubt why we've seen games like Pikmin 3 Deluxe get shadow-dropped without warning.
Are you keen on more small-scale Nintendo Direct broadcasts, or do you want something meatier? Let us know with a comment.

Just do a general direct Nintendo.
Either is fine for me actually.
For the time being I'm fine with this approach, but they really need to bring out some really interesting games for me personally. The only time I legit loved an announcement from any of these was the SMT blowout in the July Direct. Especially coming off of the PS5 Showcase yesterday this was pretty tame, especially for 2021 titles.
As long as the games are ultimately diverse and are very well made or ported, it makes no difference to me
The partner showcase today made me think that Nintendo is in fact reading the comments here and on Reddit and was like: "let's show these *****"
Personally not that much for me in the direct, but objectively it was pretty awesome. If every month mini is like that, we are golden.
General Direct would be way better but I did like August Partner Showcase's music game focus and September Partner Showcase's reveal of Monster Hunter games and Ori 2. At least Nintendo is improving upon the terrible July Partner Showcase.
As long as people stop ruining the surprise i'm fine either way.
Who do I have to speak too to get the Arkham Trilogy and Mass Effect Trilogy?
You won't get any complaints from me. Monster Hunter, Fitness Boxing, Ori and Balau Wonderland are why I liked the direct.
SMTV direct was the best.
this was trash who goes nuts of physical version of ports for half the price of a switch?
not everyone is a fan of monster hunter pokemon
@Speedo they wont present that on a switch presentation
Perfectly fine with me. I'd rather get updates more frequently than wait for one or two all year long.
I'm cool with them. I'd be happy with one a month.
Obviously a full blown Direct trumps that but not expecting another for awhile
I actually hope they keep going with these monthly Partner Showcases even when some of them are a bit lackluster. Nice to get regular announcements and there's usually at least one or two things of interest. Definitely prefer it when they announce it in advance and stream it like this one rather than when they just drop a video on Youtube with little warning.
but give me Disco Elysium next time
Shadow drops all day
Great! Then I'll keep hoping for Dark Souls 2.
I'm fine with any kind of Direct as long as they put effort into it. I understand games and gamers are extremely diverse so its impossible to satisfy everyone with what's showcased. However, there's been some serious Mini Direct duds that even Stevie Wonder would be able to see how "meh" it is. Even with a disclaimer no matter what these Directs (including Mini's) create a level of excitement so you always have to try to at least make some sort of a splash.
I was right. Great games, except that kick boxing game. I wonder when they release the Sky:Children of the light.
This was by far the best Partner Showcase. If they keep up the quality I'll have no problem with these (though I hope to move back to nice full Directs next year).
I've been enjoying these partner directs. The only one that has disappointed me was the second one.
By the way, i hope sometime to show the new model
The most recent direct Mini had a good balance of big and small titles. If the rest are more like this, I'll be perfectly fine with that.
Getting better each time and it is clearly gonna be monthly thing.
I don't expect a full Nintendo Direct this year now just shadow-esque type drops from Nintendo (December still empty) and then these partner showcases and maybe one more indieworld before the year is out.
I am fine with that.
This one was my favorite out of the "partner showcases" directs.
If they're like this, I'm fine!
I prefer it like this, I can temper my expectations accordingly, knowing it’s a Partner Mini, or a Nindies Mini.
First Party wise I do prefer getting themed Mini directs rather than just shadow news drops.
@TheFrenchiestFry Really? I thought the PS5 showcase was massively underwhelming. I can't really see any reason to get it at launch other than Demon Souls.
I like this way. Games which are announced are usually released within a week. That’s freaking great!
Compared to the first few, this partner Direct was great!
Pikmin 3: Deluxe, Indie World, Partner Direct August, Super Mario 35th Direct, Hyrule Warriors: AoC, & now Partner Direct September have pretty much been revealed in back to back to back weeks, right?
I think I prefer these weekly info bombs over a few big events a year. I mean really, would it have really made all that much of a difference if all of the above (sans Indie World, which has always been it's own thing) were rolled up into a big September Direct instead of weekly announcements? At least this way there's something new to talk about every week.
@TheFullAndy, Despite it being announced in the Partner Direct, Fitness Boxing 2 is published by Nintendo so they technically do have a December game (granted, they often release two smaller games, or a small game with a big one, in the same month, so they could still have something else, but maybe not).
I was worried Nintendo was going to look terrible after the excellent PS5 showing yesterday and the paltry first-party lineup Nintendo has had this year, but this was a surprisingly good direct. Nothing that personally interests me, but a lot of things I might pick up eventually.
@Dogtanian This isn't the site to be discussing this, but I personally disagree. DMC 5 SE alone would be worth having the console on Day 1, but Demons Souls and Spider-Man at launch, and Ratchet and Clank coming in the immediate future? This is one of Sony's stronger launch lineups.
Not to mention FF XVI being confirmed.
I'll take any Direct format over the quiet darkness of the Covid-19-induced white noise we got from Nintendo last summer.
If they are as good as this one, I'll be very happy!
@Dogtanian Maybe it's just the RPG/character action game fan in me but I really dug FFXVI, DMC5 SE, the Demon's Souls and Miles Morales demo, the God of War teaser, and especially Hogwarts Legacy.
No yo kai watch 4 or bravely default 2 (which is listed as 202) made this quite poor for me, mainly more ports
A Direct is a Direct, whether it's 10 minutes or 40 minutes. I considered Mini Directs to be Directs, as long as a showcase gives 1 or 2 games to look forward to I consider it a success.
I know some people here are happy with this direct but I didn't enjoy it much. Monster hunter rise was a little interesting but I am not a monster hunter fan or a rune factory fan. I played the 3ds one and it was boring but maybe with rise I will try one more time to get into it. The disgaea games are a little too weird for me to get into and I don't care for ori at all, I hate most indie games(sorry if I offended people with that comment)I thought Microsoft wasn't going to release anymore games on switch but whatever. I liked the last partner direct better and the shin megami tensei one was the best reveal this year so far but only because of it. I am fine with partners minis but I hope Nintendo goes back to fat full directs soon. And for the people here that say Nintendo only did two main directs a year before this, you are wrong. Nintendo did a couple or 3 fat full directs and minis and indies and specific game directs throughout the year. I would like Nintendo to go back to that from a few years ago. This is just my opinion and sorry for the long rant. Well the only good news about 2020 was that with not a lot new games coming out, I am getting my backlog down a lot. I am working on the jrpgs on my switch right now which take a long time to complete lol
@TheFrenchiestFry Sure, I understand. I'm still catching up with PS1-era Final Fantasy so it isn't really aimed at me to be fair! I don't doubt the appeal of many of the games announced, however most of them aren't available until 2021 and a lot of them will now actually release on PS4 as well. This won't deter the early adopters, I just don't see how it convinces others to upgrade.
@playstation_king We might have to wait until the Tokyo Game Show for an update on Bravely Default II. A delay until 2021 feels almost inevitable.
@playstation_king, what are you talking about? The two Monster Hunter games, Rune Factory 5, and Disgea 6 are all new games.
The only ports I can think of were Sniper Elite 4 & Ori 2 (maybe Empire of Sin? It might be new too).
@RR529 sorry didn't watch the fire t and didn't see an article on here about monster hunter stories 2, I am looking forward to that one now, the other games aren't really for me apart from maybe rune factory 5 as I couldn't really get into number 4
This is such a good thing in the long run, I’d say. Gives third party games a time to shine, and not be in the shadow of Nintendo’s own games in regular directs.
Just like with indie directs, actually.
Let’s hope more and more third party studios see this as an opportunity too!
@RR529 empire of sin is new too, same release date as playstation and xbox.
All games were new, except for Ori and Sniped 4. But yeah... @playstation_king is pretty biased I’ve noticed last night.
@Friendly The game lineup was for the most part incredibly promising. I think the only one I checked out of partially was COD
@TheFrenchiestFry I know this is likely not your genre, but considering how massive World's success was on other consoles worldwide, brand new Monster Hunter titles finally coming to Switch is definitely as huge as announcements go.
Very nicely timed too because World's finally final update is just about to release meaning that a lot of World veterans will be ready to migrate to Switch come Rise's release.
@Slowdive Exactly! 2020 has been a fine year for the Switch, especially with what the likes of Nintendo and Bandai Namco had to bring. I just know next year will be even better too.
Honestly MH:R, Metroid Prime 4, and BotW 2 is all I need next year.
Only thing that I need to know for 3rd party games in 2020 is whether Bravely Default 2 has been delayed to 2021 and when Doom Eternal will be released (and if that has been delayed to 2021 as well).
@Ludovsky I've played 4 Ultimate and World but the latter just felt kinda empty without friends
That is straight up a game you play over a discord call imo
I liked the direct and the 2 Monster Hunter games got me really pumped, to me this direct was a bit better than the previous 2. Nice to see some news about what is coming so I'm ok with however Nintendo decides to release game news I'm not picky.
@Slowdive been actually thinking of re-editing all the mini directs and showcases into an E3 sized direct so people can see there really are a ton of great games that have been announced this year.
@Friendly how am I biased, I have a switch and a switch lite lol if you bothered to read my first post I mentioned I was looking forward to hearing news on bravely second and yo kai watch 4, and 3 ports got announced today that's what my comment was aimed at as I'm sick of ports and remasters this gen
@MS7000 I assume they’re doing everything in their power to avoid having to answer questions about Metroid and BOTW2
@playstation_king ok. Can we stop calling each other biased from now on then?
Cause you said the same yesterday to me. Even though I have a couple of playstation consoles here.
But don’t say there were only ports in this direct. There were three. And one of them is Ori and one other is Hades. So those two you can only applaud.
Nothing new. Every showed we knew about.
@Minish-Cap it were almost all new announcements.
This Direct was killer. I don't even plan on buying any of the games that were featured (not yet, anyway), and I still got excited watching it.
@Friendly il make a truce then Considering you have lyn for a profile pic, and there were 3 ports that I saw, the long dark, sniper elite and ori. I just have a vendetta with ports and remakes especially this gen as its been dammed with them to a point where 40% of games are either a port or a remake, and with demon souls already I can't see that trend stopping.
Though they are great for people who have never experienced the game
@Friendly
Rune Factory5 was spoken about last year. The Monster Hunter games were rumored so they weren't a surprise. The India's were speculated. I was expecting a surprise. The Monster Hunter games sound amazing because they aren't ports. Rune Factory looked better than the one that came out early this year. We knew about these games though. What about a surprise like a new sports game or a good Star Wars game?
@Minish-Cap you’re saying that a lot was rumored. Welcome to the internet. Surprises almost never exist anymore. Except for age of calamity.
@playstation_king You’re right about that, there are many ports and remasters. I guess this is the first generation where it’s being considered valuable to upgrade playstation 1, 2 and 3 era games to hd or 4k. Or make m portable. I am afraid we haven’t seen the end of it, and playstation 2 and 3 era will be milked on playstation 5 i assume...
Where’s the smash dlc info? They could just casually drop it like min min.
@Minish-Cap Stop reading internet rumours/leaks and you can enjoy being surprised again
I don't know but I can say this. I was finally able to buy Hades and yes...it's freaking awesome! No just need them to get undermine released and I'm set.
Are you sure?
In an alternate reality, even with full Nintendo Direct presentations, I bet this idea could've came as a good way of announcing external games on a monthly basis until the full Direct comes like... a full Direct every 3 or 4 months. It's a nice callback to the pre-2015 times when a Nintendo Direct happened every 1 or 2 months, remember?
However, nothing insistively "ongoing" will now stop the possibility of a presentation arriving any moment this year, even if it's not specifically called a "Direct".
Now anyway, I'm stiill processing everything announced here, this was the bigegst Partner Showcase yet! I can accept enjoying monthly presentations
This was easily the best mini direct (and the only good one) by far!
There were multiple announcements of actual good games in the works like Monster Hunter Rise and Monster Hunter Stories 2, Rune Factory 5, Ori 2, Disgaea 6, and other interesting stuff
The last direct was easily the worst out of the 3 with a bunch of shovelware and ports or mobile games no one asked for. The first one only having 1 good announcement being the SMT stuff.
This is how partner showcases should be done. Now I get actually get my hopes up for the next one.
Though I would just prefer a general direct at this point...
People are so obsessed with these directs. Like, I get it, but calm the hell down. It's just video games. There are more important things going on in the world.
I'll admit this Direct didn't suck. But it doesn't change the fact that we are starved for an actual Direct with news about bigger games like Pokemon Sword and Shield, Breath of the Wild 2, or Metroid Prime 4
Gotta admit, this wasn't that bad. I mean, it's not great (it's not even a good one, either), but it's not a complete waste of time, as the other two Direct Minis were.
I prefer the general Directs but since it seems we won't be getting one this year then more mini directs would be good.
i still like these mini directs and at least we still have it so people should be happy.
