Re: Reaction: Switch 2 Needed A Partner Showcase With Pep; This Wasn't It

kmtrain83

@coolioam
Yes even still they are somehow holding back for some reason. I guess they don't want to oversaturate the market? Call of Duty is contractually obligated to release on Nintendo, but we don't have a title announcement. Metaphor: ReFantazio seems like a no brainer. Many other Digimon games are on Switch 1, so what about Time Stranger? They should also be highlighting mouse mode, so what about something like Age of Empires? On the other hand, if you look at all the upcoming games listts on IGN or Gamespot, maybe we should just focus on what is, and not stress about what may or may not ever be. There are still too many games, and not enough time or money.

Re: Reaction: Switch 2 Needed A Partner Showcase With Pep; This Wasn't It

@Willo567
Yeah there some inconsistency for sure. I think the idea is that for digital-first gamers, they don't care. They are going to stay digital for the convenience. For people who like physical though, it feels like a bait and switch. The only folks who might still be okay with GKC are those who flip their unwanted games in the second hand market, since that remains intact.
For instance, PS5 Blu Ray physical games are essentially a key-card in practice. You pop it in the console, and wait for everything to install on the SSD. You then have to insert the disc to play anything, even though you are not playing from the disc itself. There is a varying amount of data on disc, versus what needs an internet download. So those who are saying I won't buy Switch 2 GKC, instead I'll get it on Playstation are fooling themselves.

Re: Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase July 2025: Every Announcement, Game Reveal, Trailer

kmtrain83

@commentlife
That's a good point. This partner direct may have more to say about the state of the industry than Nintendo themselves. As was the case with Switch 1, it looks like it will be mostly carried by 1st party, and indies. As long as they stick to their hybrid console with reduced specs strategy, it will probably remain that way. I do look forward to the upcoming Kirbys, Hyrule, Pokemon, Metroid. Hades 2 was a notable absence. Hades 1 was a 10/10 game for me.

Re: Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase July 2025: Every Announcement, Game Reveal, Trailer

kmtrain83

@Dizzymario
I don’t mind the key-card, especially for things such as JRPG‘s that I tend to sell when I’m done with them.
On the other hand I tend to like to wait for ultimate or gold editions of games with all the DLC included on cart, and it seems like that is going away.
I’m still not sure which platform to get Persona 3 Reload I think it depends if I want the expansion, which is digital only on any platform.
At this rate, it looks like I’ll probably get it Black Friday 2026 on steep discount for Nintendo. If I’m still around.

Re: Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase July 2025: Every Announcement, Game Reveal, Trailer

kmtrain83

I went in expecting more ports such as Assassin‘s Creed and Metaphor. Clair Obscur and Baldur’s Gate 3 would’ve put it over the top.
I do appreciate a lot of unexpected announcements, but they’re coming to all the platforms, so it’s not making a case for early adoption of NS2.
At this point between my backlog and a smattering of new releases per year, I should be satisfied… there are still more interesting games than there is time and money to enjoy them.
If you’re one of those people that lives and dies by the hype train, then I guess this would’ve been a downer presentation

Re: UK Charts: No Prizes For Guessing Who Overtook Donkey Kong Bananza This Week

kmtrain83

Assuming that Switch 2 is considered a different generation, it would be interesting to see how many of these titles that cross over such as Zelda, Hogwarts, Mario Party end up in the all time best selling list when there are two distinct, but similar versions.

Also, this is just the UK physical software chart, but I imaging most of the Mario Kart World sales were bundled digital downloads, so it is even more impressive. I wonder what is the "attach rate."

Re: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Rating Spotted, Fuelling Nintendo Direct Hopes Again

kmtrain83

I don't understand why the mystery when it was already playable at all the in person events since April.
I am personally hoping for a Partner Showcase next week for things like P3R, Metaphor, AC Shadows.
The first party release dates can be announced via the Nintendo Today app or X. If they want to promote them more than that, they can do a 15-20 single title Direct the month prior to launch like they did with DK Bananza.

Re: Japanese Charts: Donkey Kong Bananza Sells A Bunch, But Can't Beat Mario Kart

kmtrain83

@Axecon
DKB is pretty good for less than a full week, and given the attach rate. You can't compare to Pokemon, Animal Crossing, Mario Odyssey, and Smash because many Switch 1 had been sold by the time those came out. On the other hand, I guess it's not close to Marvel Spider-Man levels. I could see this being a title with long legs. Look at MK8, which is crazy 4th place.

Re: Ubisoft's Yves Guillemot Is Hopeful That Upcoming Switch 2 Port Can Revive Star Wars Outlaws

kmtrain83

@tameshiyaku
I agree with most of your takes. As someone who grew up with the originals, the main thing is SW was groundbreaking based on just three 10/10 films (maybe 8 or 9 for ROTJ), and a lot of nostalgia based on those. Now it’s diluted with constant 7/10 filler like Outlaws, and has some downright poor showings like certain choices in TROS and Acolyte. Sorry for the acronyms.
It’s just harder to generate excitement. Sadly, most if not all major franchises have fallen into this pattern.

Re: Best MicroSD Express Cards For Nintendo Switch 2

kmtrain83

@DTfearTheBEARD
We also went with the 256GB ONN. The OLED Switch was also using a 256GB, so I figure with the additional built-in storage, it would be enough for at least a while. We also went to high speed home internet with no data caps a few years ago, so I don't have as much of an issue redownloading games.

Re: Rumour: Major Third-Party Devs Reportedly Sitting On Multiple Switch 2 Announcements

kmtrain83

Persona 3 Reloaded, Metaphor: ReFantazio. Baldurs Gate 3 (mouse UI), Takes of Arise, AC: Shadows, Dark Souls Trilogy, EA College Football, Red Dead Redemption 2. Star Wars Jedi Survivor.
Clair Obscur, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, Mass Effect Trilogy would all sell well if done right as well as the Cyberpunk port.
Storage would be an issue on some of these, so I wonder if that is part of the problem with optimization.
I would also like to see more unique games like Duskbloods.
In terms of upcoming releases, I am not really interested in too many, maybe Digimon. Outer Worlds 2

Re: FBI Shares Official Statement After Seizure Of Major Switch ROM Site

kmtrain83

I’m not going to reply to anyone in particular, because I’m not trying to provoke an argument.

As a USA resident, I may not realize the price of this hobby in other countries relative to basic goods and services, and I don’t want to judge on that basis.

On the other hand, the amount of entitlement I see out of some responses is disappointing. If an item is for sale, and you get a free copy from these websites, you are stealing indirectly. Society does not owe you free entertainment.

In addition, I don’t believe the game preservation angle. If you really care about that so much, then just turn the file over to your local library or digital archivist, and don’t keep a copy for yourself. No takers?

The last comment is something I posted before. The whole $millions claim is just the FBI flexing, to show they are justified in the time and money spent on this. They want to stave off the criticism of “don’t you have real crimes to solve?”

Re: The FBI Has Seized A Switch ROM Site As Part Of A 'Law Enforcement Operation'

kmtrain83

It makes sense with a new gen, Nintendo stands to lose millions or even billions in sales if there were no checks on illegal downloads. Law enforcement would likely target the low hanging fruit as well, to justify to their superiors that the time and money spent on catching the bad guys saved X amount to the system. Kind of like drug busts, they always brag how much of the street value was seized. On the old gen stuff, it is hard to quantify the dollar value of intellectual property. Like, would I be less likely to subscribe to NSO online if I (allegedly) have an emulated copy of Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance on the home PC? ... Not saying I do, but it is more of a hypothetical.

Re: "It Will Have A Chilling Effect On Game Design" - EU Group Responds To 'Stop Killing Games'

kmtrain83

@dew12333
The main issue us that consumer protection laws, which originated in the 19th century, have not caught up to the digital age. As such, I don't have a problem with the consumers asking their elected reprentatives to take a fresh look at potentially misleading marketing or inaccurate claims on what is being purchased.
The very fact that the video game companies actually have paid lobbyists shows that this is already something they take seriously.
I tend to ignore the hyperbolic/ childish Youtube style presentation, since that is just is the decorum of that medium. Youtubers gonna Youtube.

Re: "It Will Have A Chilling Effect On Game Design" - EU Group Responds To 'Stop Killing Games'

kmtrain83

@Ryu_Niiyama I also feel like it would be government overreach to get into how games are coded. They may force a fine print disclaimer somewhere in the end user agreement (EUA) that we all agree to without reading. I don't see this going anywhere beyond that.
On the other hand, it is Europe, and there seems to be a trend toward wanting to cut these large technology firms down to size... For instance, they seem to be fining Apple left and right. So maybe the response is either pay up front in development costs to make the games more durable, or pay us in penalties on the back end : you decide.

Re: Switch Port Experts Share Thoughts About Switch 2's "Raw" Performance

kmtrain83

@Exerion76
Yes and No. Microsoft will still need to support their prior generation including Series S even after the next console launches. I mean, they just ported SW Jedi:Survivor to Xbox One less than a year ago, 11 years after that console debuted .

And who’s to say that, since hopefully we won’t have a chip shortage in 2029, Nintendo won’t release a Switch 2 Pro?

Re: Furukawa's Defence Of Game-Key Cards Ain't All That Convincing

kmtrain83

So far in the comments I see several themes:

1. Digital first buyers don’t see the problem since they are digital already..

2. Physical diehards are upset because it is another march in the direction of a future all digital world. They are paying more ($70) for something that holds objectively less value in terms of data than the previous Switch cartridges.

3. Value conscious consumers also point out the additional extended storage requirements as a way of pushing costs onto them.

4. Folks who regularly lend or sell unwanted games seem to be OK with this GKC compromise since that is still possible. We do not know how the secondary market will price things.

5. Retro enthusiasts and game preservationists are worried what will happen to their collection in the distant future. We do not know 20 years from now what the landscape will be in terms of disc rot, backward-compatible servers, console longevity, and the emulation space.

Personally, I’m still on an OLED Switch, but I did get the MK bundle for my son, and pre-order DK Bananza. I’m unsure where the game key cards will fit in all this, but I’m happy to read everyone’s perspective .

Re: Furukawa's Defence Of Game-Key Cards Ain't All That Convincing

kmtrain83

@Rayquaza2510
Yes, it is still early days and I think the extended storage options will improve over time. Most of the passionate game collectors will all eventually get extended storage for the Switch 2 anyway. There will be a cost involved, but factored in over however many years and also all the other cost they spend on their hobby, it’s relatively not much..

Re: Furukawa's Defence Of Game-Key Cards Ain't All That Convincing

kmtrain83

@Davesy22
These are valid points. Its possible that in a couple of years if the market responds with low sales, as well as possibly the cost of creating the cartridges stabilizes, the pendulum could swing to more games being full on cartridge. I’m not an economist, but I imagine they could take a slight loss in manufacturing and make it up in volume.
