The Media Create Japanese chart results are out, and they bring positive news for Nintendo as they have a lead in both software and hardware.
In the software charts we have ARMS clinging on to top spot, very narrowly seeing off the challenge from the retail iteration of the PS4 expansion Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood. We then have The Alliance Alive as a new game on 3DS, while the likes of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild continue to perform quite well.

Moving on to hardware, the Nintendo Switch numbers drop back after the increased sales that accompanied the launch of ARMS. It's still in top spot ahead of PS4, while the New 3DS LL (XL) is firmly placed in third spot; the results below have last week's sales in brackets.
- Switch – 22,361 (37,709)
- PlayStation 4 – 19,095 (18,251)
- New 3DS LL – 11,474 (11,592)
- PlayStation 4 Pro – 6,585 (5,795)
- PlayStation Vita – 4,077 (4,149)
- 2DS – 2,545 (2,655)
- New 3DS – 710 (815)
- Xbox One – 265 (308)

So there you have it, a reasonable week all around from Nintendo's perspective.

Yep, it's falling off a cliff as predicted.
The Wii U sold less than the Xbox One in Japan. It is now truly dead.
Switch passed the 1 million sold mark this week, not last week as was previously reported. Media Create are the trusted source for Japanese sales.
Nintendo Switch Sales Pass One Million Units in Japan Much Faster than PS4
http://www.dualshockers.com/nintendo-switch-sales-1-million-japan-faster-ps4/
A massive drop off in ARMS sales and Switch sales have returned to where they were the previous couple of months. Nintendo might have top spots in both hardware and software but the numbers are dreadful. And that goes for all the companies.
@Nintendoer It's been like that for several weeks now 😛
ARMS definitely doesn't have Splatoon legs......yeah, I know, that was bad.......I'll go sit in a corner now.....😭
oh snap, Alliance Alive is out. Ugh gotta get that TV out for my 3ds.
What's up with the xbone sales?
At this point I'm EXTREMELY interested in the Splatoon 2 numbers a few weeks from now. I'm predicting it will blow up in Japan like no other Switch game thus far.
Japan isn't really big on ARMS' genre. I'll consider it a success it it passes 1million worldwide, although I hope it does better then that.
@ricklongo But will Nintendo have the hardware to go with it?
@Nintendoer People say the Switch is hard to find. At least they're making the Switch. There's no more Wii U production so finding one to buy with each passing week gets even harder and harder.
So Nintendoom again? Lol!
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Ah, that's the question. One would hope so, but realistically shortages are here to stay, at least as far as 2017 goes.
Arms needs to be on top of the charts.The game is sooooooo good and just a lot of pure fun. I looked last night at my play time thinking I put in around 10-15 hours tops,nope 25 or more it said 😳. I guess the time just flew by bottom line in loving this game and really hope it sells well and becomes a new staple Nintendo IP.
Dang...now I understand why Nintendo issued that public apology related to Switch stock issues in Japan...These hardware numbers have hit a new low.
Nintendo had better be prepping very, very aggressively for Splatoon 2's release next month, as they have stated in their apology. Not only will Splatoon 2's launch be massive, but Nintendo will also introduce a new Splatoon 2 hardware bundle alongside the game's release, so they pretty much set themselves up to great expectations for a dramtic increase in Switch stock next month and beyond.
Supplying 75,000 Switches during the week of Splatoon 2's launch won't be enough. Even double that (150,000 Switches) may not suffice.
Completely dishonest reporting from Nintendolife. PS4 actually sold more, but the sales are spread between Slim and Pro.
Lol...
Look at Tekken 7 ps4.
I guess Pokken will do better.
While im fully aware that Arms is completely different in genre etc to Botw, its definetley not a system seller imo so im not suprised to see the numbers drop off in the way they have.
Splatoon 2 should do the Zelda, MK8D sales dance though, so the futures bright.
ARMS is awesome!
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
Pretty sure hardware is stock related for Switch. Now I hope Nintendo is holding it back for Splatoon 2 launch. 250k + is attainable that week IMO.
I would imagine Nintendo is stockpiling ahead of Splatoon
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Once again, it's faulty reasoning to conclude that interest in the Switch can be determined by sales figures at this point. The numbers week by week are actually more indicative of how many consoles can be produced, since the system sells out immediately just about everywhere.
I am getting very disappointed... I don't even want to touch my Switch until some AAA multiplatform games come. They have NO good games coming out. Arms isn't worth 60 bucks... It's a 2GB game... I am not supporting any Nintendo games until they secure third party AAA multiplatform games. i don't care if they "look better" or "run better" on a box I can't take with me. Game sales are abysmal BECAUSE all the companies are stale.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Software sales in Japan are dreadful in general. They've been so for a good several years now. I'd argue they're doing fine for the market's low standards.
@DEZn00ts
I, too, judge my games by how many GBs they are.
Well that's a new low for switch hardware, lowest numbers yet. PS4 family highest selling and that says it all, especially with the Japanese preferring handhelds. Crap software sales aswell on all hardware, can't believe Minecraft vita has sold so much though and still selling after more than 2 years of almost constantly been in the charts
If the switch start to fall below 20k. Then they have to do a price drop, to stop the system from running out off legs. After all these weeks they cannot stock stortages.
@brendon987
Even if Nintendo cut the price of the Switch, which they won't, nothing would change. Switch sales would still be dictated entirely by its supply; the only difference now would be that there would be even more unfulfilled demand for the Switch, and Nintendo would likely be taking an unnecessary loss on each Switch unit sold.
@rallydefault God there is so many kids here... These games are on new systems, right? Well how are they going to try and sell a cheap, under developed, "all right" fighter for 60 bucks? That's why it isn't selling as much as franchises that have just a fraction more depth in it. ARMS is an 8 at best and what I said is it's NOT WORTH 60 DOLLARS! They usually justify the price of games by development cost and usually being "physical" We see now with games like this and thin plastic cases with no booklets in them that they lie constantly and that's not the case. The Switch is in between a handheld and a console, 2x the power of a Wii U and one quarter of the power of a Xbox One. NOT ONE COMPANY has spent anywhere near enough to justify a 60 dollar arcade game. Shouldn't the price be somewhere in between 45-50 USD???
I hope these Switch supply constraints are fixed soon, just so some uninformed people of these comments section can end their "Nintendoomed" narrative.
@westman98 I love my Switch but am very Disappointed on the lack of Quality games on it. Only 3-5 QUALITY games with GREAT replay value. I need some "adult" games. The only people that say Nintendo fans only buy Nintendo are people who don't own the system. This comment is just a talking point, nothing was aimed at you
@Switch81tch I bought a Switch in hopes the Gaming industry would stop trying to black ball Nintendo PLUS Nintendo games and for REAL developers (not what all of the classic ones morphed into) can push on such small hardware. Playing on a Nintendo system feels "different" and I already have a PC. I am NOT ignorant, people like you who call names online, being passive aggressive are. If you really Believe that Nintendo can't get 3rd party support after only ONE generation (Wii was hard to develop for and it STILL had 3rd party) You must be mistaken. Nintendo is king of gaming and profits. If they don't come out with any Multiplats or exclusives, I still have my PC if we want to talk "powerful" (lol) systems. Xbox and PS4 are where MOST of the idiots play. I can miss out on a few games I wouldn't have played anyways...
There's kids here? Nobody told me!
Run for the hills!! 🏔️🏃▫️▫️▫️👶🏻👶🏼👶🏿
@DEZn00ts
Man, believe me when I say this: I WISH I was still a kid lol
I'm probably double your age, not even joking.
I think judging a game because it's "2GB" is pretty childish.
If you want to judge by price, that's fine. But ARMS has a good amount of content for 60 bucks. There are plenty of games and DLC out there to attack for not being worth the money they are asking, but ARMS ain't one of them.
@DEZn00ts
I don't take offense into anything you have said. If you bought a Switch for 3rd party AAA multiplats and are currently disappointed by the lack of them, I understand the frustration, and I hope the situation improves in the future as the Switch's market position starts to become more clear.
I don't like it when people who look at facts, confuse "lack of stock" with "lack of demand", and draw conclusions based on that.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE You do understand that this is now the end of June. Summer has always been the weakest season for system and game sales. ALWAYS. So while the numbers may seem weak to you, they are probably not out of line with the norm. Granted Switch is hot as hell worldwide and I suspect if they had better supply levels it would be selling more units. They hedged their bets out of the gate because of WiiU failure (and even 3DS had a slow start) but They likely would have sold twice as many Switch by now if they just had anticipated higher initial production runs.
@DEZn00ts I agree it will be great when some AAA third party games start arriving, but after wii u developers were probably hesitant to work on games for the switch before they saw how well it would do... I imagine now it's sellinng well they have all started planning projects, unfortunately that means a year or two before we get anything good from third parties that aren't close with Ninty
But if you add PS4 and PS4 Pro together...
And add Final Fantasy XIV Expansion and Complete together...
@Switch81tch maybe... i guess the future will tell. The switch has an interesting niche in being portable, i think there is a chance. Personally I am happy with what games are coming out already, but having portable options for some of the bigger AAA titles could be awesome
@Switch81tch You're blanket statement amazes me but whenever someone says "third parties don't invest that kind of money" I Automatically think of ANYTHING during the Gamecubes life and before. The problem is this type of "muscle memory" or whatever you call it that society has. If a lot of people say what you say and are vocal about it, usually the rest of society follows suit. I will be the First to tell you, YOu are the moron here. Remember Metal Gear Remake and Resident Evil 0 and 1 remake? There are A LOT of games I can name. Resident Evil 4, WHICH THEY PORTED to the PS2.... I'm positive you are one of those dumb butts with selective memory because your favorite company is Sony... I can see a Sony fanboy when I meet one. NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube AND Wii were HEAVILY supported by 3rd party... Nintendo is the company that made some of these companies famous! You and the other "half dumb, slanted glasses" mother nibelsnarfers making stupid statements like "No one buys Nintendo systems for 3rd party" kill me because if they didn't, Konami, Capcom, Square and every nibelsnarfing other AAA game company wouldn't be around BESIDES Ubisoft and even then, Nintendo made them famous too. Oh and Nintendo is only "special" because they are actually a Software/harware developer and their mascots stand the test of time and EVERY other game uses SOMETHING they invented. Nintendo IS the best and they will play the loser until both companies don't have/stop putting money into their non profitable machines.
"I am NOT ignorant, people like you who call names online, being passive aggressive are."
"YOu are the moron here.I'm positive you are one of those dumb a$$es with selective memory because your favorite company is Sony... I can see a Sony fanboy when I meet one.
^ lol Not the best way to prove a point haha
I actually agree with this dude though that western third party support isn't impossible, like we had during the golden GameCube days but even if we do get it, it'll be slow to arrive, maybe next E3 if the Switch is still selling well we'll start to see increased third party Switch games announced.
Xbone is stealthily creeping up the charts. Can it make no 7 next week?!
[Doubt it]
@DEZn00ts
You seem unhappy, why not sell or trade it in.
@Mahe "Dishonest" for separating two different versions of the same hardware. What's next? You going to say they're being dishonest when they separate the Xbox One and Xbox One X too?
@N4LIFE Sorry you're confused.
@Toadie To me it doesn't matter If I get to speak my piece, he attacked, so I attacked accordingly, correct? Didn't I wait before I said that? Isn't it taught in ANY country to do the same if attacked? Just saying. If he doesn't understand or learn from my common sense, factual point... After the fact I called him a moron, it was over. Also, of COURSE by next E3 it will be selling well. Xenoblade (A series many have wanted but missed out on) Odyssey, Yoshi, Metroid... KIRBY FOUR PLAYERS! It's gonna be a good year.
Oh and to respond to the quote, I'm not being passive aggressive, I wait for my attack. I'm just aggressive
@rallydefault That is how you judge the quality of a good game!
@DEZn00ts ...eh, your handle speaks volumes.
Aside, Ubisoft became 'famous' from Rayman on Ps1, Tom Clancy and Far Cry games on PC, Splinter Cell on Xbox, Assn's Creed on X360 and Ps3, so...
And if you think you're going to see GC-level of AAA 3rd party support on Switch, you may as well sell your system now if that's such a deal breaker. The GC had graphic parity with the systems at the time. The Switch does not. It may in the future, as I have a feeling their whole plan is to upgrade the tablet portion every couple years while retaining the perfected Joy-Con. But for now, appreciate new Ninty games and smaller projects home or on the go. That's about it, my friend.
@DEZn00ts Ok well its up to you how you like to come across i guess, though the admins won't take too kindly to you labelling people as fanboys, much better to put your point across in a civil manner so you can carry on enjoying the site and using its comments section without being banned.
Moving on, i just remembered i never even touched Splatoon's single player campaign so tomorrow i will be getting stuck into it before the second game comes out in a few weeks, also going to replay Metroid Zero Mission, will be nice to dust off the Wii U after being glued to the Switch since march
@datamonkey "Xbone is stealthily creeping up the charts. Can it make no 7 next week?!"
We can but hope - plucky ole Microsoft!
I find it sad that people think a ~3,000 units sales lead for the PS4 against the Switch somehow means the Switch is "in trouble"...
@Reverandjames
Looking at the state of fighting games in Japan, Arms has done pretty well. Sales in North America will be much more important for Arms, as that is where fighting games sell the most.
@Toadie "Moving on, i just remembered i never even touched Splatoon's single player campaign so tomorrow i will be getting stuck into it before the second game comes out in a few weeks"
You're in for a treat. It's not the longest mission in the world, but it is great fun with some great ideas. And that last boss...
@WiltonRoots
Yeah i've heard it is good, i went straight to the multiplayer at launch and was hooked on it, it's very rare for me to do that, i'm almost exclusively a single-player gamer but it was so much fun, completely forgot about the campaign, so excited for 2, especially to try out the new horde mode
@Toadie Yeah I spent ages just playing the multiplayer myself, then just strolled in to single player for a change and was pleasantly surprised!
@DEZn00ts Dude you need to chill with the aggression and especially the language. I'm sure the mods are going to have a field day cleaning up your posts. I agree with you about Gamecube, it was great. As were the games you mentioned, RE0, Resident Evil REmake, RE4, MGS: TTS. But Gamecube was also the last time Nintendo competed with the competition on power. It's no wonder 3rd support is abysmal nowadays. We haven't had a mainline Resident Evil game on a Nintendo console since the Gamecube. You mentioned MGS: TTS, Nintendo funded that and Silicon Knights, a second party developer for Nintendo at the time remade the game. Otherwise we haven't had a mainline Metal Gear game on a Nintendo home console since the SNES. And there's countless other examples of this.
@DEZn00ts
Eh...
I have ARMS , you know.
It looks interesting for me since it looks like a "Boxing" games. I got that game for 600,000 IDR or US$ 45.11, Like New condition.
And watch out with your language...
@westman98 that true if it really a supply issues. But after all these week. They can only supply less then 30k units worth off sales. Does not seem right to me. I think nintendo have a sales issue not a supply issue.
@brendon987 Makes perfect sense to me to time surges of New console stock around big game releases, actually.
@brendon987
There is currently a shortage of components needed to build the Switch, such as LCD screens, HD Rumble motors, and NAND flash memory. That is why Switch supply is low.
Nintendo is also likely in the process of stockpiling for the launch of Splatoon 2, since the game will be massive; a new hardware bundle will be released alongside the game as well. July is when Switch production will begin to increase, as that's when Nintendo will have more components, since competing companies (Apple in particular) will have already purchased their share of components for their products ( iPhones, iPads, etc).
@rallydefault I evaluate games by how many letters they have in the name, and at a mere 4 letters ARMS is one of the worst games I've ever seen. Only ICO is a worse game.
@DEZn00ts Watch the language on here.
@DEZn00ts
Confused? You judge a game by it's size and your calling everyone kids. If your not happy with the switch get rid of it.
@DEZn00ts Only 3 to 5 games good enough for you on a console that's 3-5 months old depending on when you picked it up. What a failure..
I don't get the cost issue with Arms. I paid £38 from amazon with prime and one of those £5 discount codes they had. Granted that's a good price but I've played 30 hours so far and will add a lot more. My kids have also 10+ hours logged on each of their accounts. It would cost the same for the 3 of us to see a movie with drinks and popcorn, and that would be done in a couple of hours. Gaming is great value for money in general.
that is pretty crazy a brand new IP topping the charts and outselling even Zelda, Mario Kart 8 and Final Fantasy.
Sounds like good news for Nintendo.
I have spent more than 50 hours on ARMS, so I'll say it definitely worth the $60 it asked for. Not to mention new DLC and mode going forward.
I'm not sure why people think the ARMS second week is bad, of course it will drop, any game did. The question is how long can ARMS keep this going, probably not long with Splatoon 2 coming, but if it could stay in chart and keep selling throughout the year, I think it did well.
I have been saying on here that ARMS is just average and not a system seller, but the extreme fan boys freak out and say I'm bashing, but I love Nintendo games I just think ARMS is not ready for prime time yet. Motion controls still not 100% accurate compared to button inputs sadly.
@Mahe Wow, your beloved PS4 Pro sold a measly 6k units.
Also, the Switch keeps selling out of its stock over there. It's already outpacing initial launch sales of the PS4 for the first couple of months, it continues to sell out of stock, proof:
http://kotaku.com/nintendo-switch-versus-ps4-an-updated-japanese-sales-c-1794485970
"The Switch sale numbers go up and down depending on how many consoles are available. It seems to be selling out every week, which is why people are still lining up in Japan when Switch consoles arrive in stores and why Nintendo apologized for now having enough machines to meet demand."
