As you're probably already aware by now, a Pokémon Direct is coming tomorrow. It's exciting, it's intriguing, and it'll hopefully be wonderful, but there's no way of knowing exactly what will be shown. Or is there?
Twitter user @pokexperto has discovered that the YouTube uploads already present on the site, which are currently counting down to the big show itself, contain some interesting keywords in their source data.
We've double checked this ourselves to be certain and, sure enough, the US upload features "nintendo", "play", "play nintendo", "game", "gameplay", "fun", "video game", "kids", "action", "adventure", and "rpg" hidden away as video tags. The Japanese video has fewer tags attached, but those present importantly include "switch".
So, an action-adventure RPG on Switch featuring "fun gameplay"? We were already hopeful before, but this certainly provides more evidence that the new Generation 8 Switch game(s) could well be being premiered tomorrow.
Naturally, we'll find out for sure tomorrow when the Direct airs once and for all. Make sure to join us here at Nintendo Life to watch the show live and join in with the chat. See you there!

The tweet had 3 pokeballs shown; Gen 8 is definitely being shown tomorrow. Between that and Treehouse slated to show off "something", it's definitely a first look at Gen 8.
I’m not really a big Pokémon fan anymore but I’m actually really excited to see what they bring to the table.
Where are the miners when we need them ??
@MoonKnight7 Yes, starter base forms seems most likely. Probably not evolutions though. And I don't expect a whole lot else.
Clearly the "Switch" tag" means that Gen 8 will celebrate Pokemon history and nostalgia by switching back to being GameBoy exclusives.
Well, what else would it be?
Im ready for it, soooo ready.
I mean, come on, isn't this a given? We've only ever had 1 Pokemon Direct a year and they've always used it to show off the next big Pokemon Games. Plus, we already knew 2019 was gonna be the year for the next big Pokemon game.
Not to mention tomorrow is the 23rd Pokémon Anniversary for most of the world so of course it'll be Generation 8.
I'm hoping it will be more of an open world Pokemon game. The old format was great and it was nice seeing Sun and Moon changing things up a bit but Pokemon should get a massive change like Zelda especially on the Switch which is way more powerful than the 3DS. Nevertheless still hyped
OMG! How many rumors! I need two hearts to be able to handle that!
Probs just new outfits for Pokemon Go
Big, very expensive trailer, followed by a few days worth of Treehouse. Nomnomnom.
I've never been a Pokémon fan, I mean I like the cute ones but I haven't really played the games. But if they come up with some cool designs and it's done sort of open world exploration type game, cough Zelda cough, maybe even with multiplayer, where you go around all regions, including this "gen 8" new one where you literally "Catch 'em all!" That could be the entire aim of the game, if I were in charge of game freak, that is exactly what I would be making. It could be the biggest Pokémon game ever! I'm getting carried away.
Looking forward to this. As always I’ll keep my expectations in check of course. Just in case it could be something else.
Not interested in pokemon at all (even after trying multiple times to be) but this is way exciting for fans! Will tune in for fun.
My biggest hope for gen 8 is skippable cutscenes because my god does the dialogue drag on in some of the recent games. Also skippable tutorials, because I don't need a mandatory ten minute tutorial for a weird carnival thing I don't plan on using just so I can wonder trade.
Details on Detective Pikachu movie...
Gen 8 is definitely going to be there but I’m also putting money on a Detective Pikachu Switch port to coincide with the movie. It wouldn’t cost much and it would make a ton of money.
I can't wait to see trailer. Don't Delayed this video.
No one could ever guess what I hope the frame rate is for the new Pokemon game! Regardless, I'm excited to see it and learn about it.
Pokemon 8th generation Digital Foundry analysis video: One blured shadow on Pikatchu's tail, one less pixel on the tree at the background, 59 frames per second when Mewtwo gets angry. (Just predicting)
.
Well.. to be fair, whenever I used to upload YouTube videos I always included tags that I knew would get viewers, but were very tenuosly link the the video.
Certainly hope this is Gen 8 though! Can't wait to get my hands on Pokémon Plus!
Detective Pikachu: The Movie Game?
Gotta be Generation 8.
Fun way to play? Please let it be with the Pro Controller this time.
IDK why anyone would think otherwise. Pokémon Directs always have at least one reveal pertaining to the main games and 8th gen is sure to be a major holiday title that a lot of Pokémon fans have been waiting years for, so naturally it should be the highlight of the presentation.
Can't wait for the "They are running out of ideas!" comments tomorrow. Been happening since gen 2.
I'm excited though. I expect the direct to start out like the count down on twitter. Just with each region having a few seconds instead of a few minutes.
Can't wait people!
@Aeleron0X I don't think they are going to go full on open world.
However, i've seen people predict/rumor that this will be the biggest region and the camera will be controllable. Nothing is confirmed though.
3 things would make me happy:
1. The Anime turned into an RPG. Misty and Brock join Ash on his travels and take part in 3-on-3 battles.
2. A cross between Xenoblade and Breath of the Wild with a huge open world to just go off and explore.
3. Pokémon Let's Go! Marill and Togepi gen 2 DLC for PLG
I'm trying to keep my hype in check here. This article isn't helping much. XD
My ideal showing would be a reveal for Mystery Dungeon in Spring and a full gameplay trailer for 8th gen with starters.
But realistically itll probably be 6 and a half minutes of the history of the series then 30 seconds of basically just the logo lol.
Surprised they didn't mention in the article that over the past 7 days, the Pokemon youtube channel has been quietly releasing "tourism" videos for the previous 7 generations of Pokemon, with the 8th day conveniently being tomorrow, the day of the direct.
Never been a real fan, but if this one looks good and changes the formula a bit (something like what Yokai Watch 4 has done), I could check it out. So I'm very curious myself!
Cannot wait for this. I hope it looks like a home console game with all that extra power. Excitement levels are so high.
I'm pretty hyped and scared that tomorrow I will be disappointed, since my expectations are probably way too high because of the already good lgpe and the comparison with a certain switch masterpiece we all know very well...
So new region, new starters, new pokemon, new group wanting to take over the world, and new gameplay. Anything I'm missing?
@MimoDX2 Yeah I agree. I think are some big design challenges that the developers have to face when making a completely open world Pokemon game. But I do think they should add some free open world elements like being able to roam wherever you want or maybe choosing any order of gym leaders you want while having some linearity, like if you want to advance the story or gain access to certain areas, you are required to take a specific path or something
Soooo hyped!!!
Can't wait!
All I want is the classic gameplay from the main series with the quality of life improvements of the Let's Go series, namely being able to see the Pokemon in the field and avoid them. But if Nintendo wants to be more ambitious I am ok with that too!
@NoxAeturnus
Yeah, they won't show anything past the starters. Every couple of months they'll show their evolutions. That's how it's always been in the past.
I'd honestly be pretty happy with Let's Go Gold/Silver
Not a massive Pokemon fan, last one I had was Diamond but interested to see what they do next and may possibly buy if it’s looking good.
I'm just sad it's during my school day, so I'll have to wait until lunch to watch
I hope that the character design is as good as Sun and Moon.
I Really don't know what to think or what to expect.
The trainers/ Gym Leaders were so charismatic, the side characters were pretty good as well.
Damn I'm kinda anxious!
Gamefreak is way too consistent to be surprised by this. I expect a trailer that's pretty much an extended commercial, with the minimum amount of information. We'll likely learn the starter base forms, the titles, how the graphics look, and maybe a new gimmick. I don't expect too much past that. Gamefreak prefers to drip feed us all the way up to a holiday season launch.
Also, hype is a strong word. I've prepared myself for dissappointment, so I've set my expectations pretty low. It helps that 2019's lineup is strong enough for me to take this hit. Lol
I'm not a big Pokemon fan but I'm excited to see what they're bringing. Will it be a regular style game or could it be a BOTW open world? With the gen 8 game and Detective Pikachu movie it's certainly going to be a big year for Pokemon.
I said on the other article, I would be surprised if it is anything other than gen 8.
Distant second possibility is a Pokemon Let's Go DLC, and 3rd is another spin-off, possibly a Mystery Dungeon collection or something. But both of those seem really unlikely.
Pokemon gen. "X", to me, is like Madden "XXXX". It just more of the same.
@NoxAeturnus We don't need them is the answer. The Direct airs tomorrow. Show some patience, just wait, watch it and receive the info in the best way possible.
Cool, cool.
I'll be pleased if we even just get a trailer for it.
As long as it's not Let's Go or that Pokeball controller.
@MoonKnight7 The 3 Pokeballs clearly means generation 3 and an Emerald remake on the Switch. It's so genius yet so simple.
/s...
Please, don't ever put a talking dex. It is the reason why I stopped playing Ultra Moon after obtaining Necrosma and beating the league. If they don't put it, I will like this new gen. Also, please bring more Mega Evolutions. That was the best thing of Pokémon X & Y and Ruby & Sapphire remakes which improved by having more Megas and legendaries with even cooler Mega Evolutions (Primal Reversions).
@sauce The showing off the other regions has me feeling its going to be a big open world Pokemon.
I’m hyped and terrified at the same time I’m praying they don’t use the lets go Pokémon art style
So what time is this actually happening?(UK time)
@PlayedNSlayed In just over 6 hours from this reply. So whenever that is for you.
Edit: 2 PM GMT.
@SenseiDje I’m surprised developers can keep anything a secret these days.
@Regpuppy Thanks 👍
@zionich I don't want to get toooo hyped in case that DOESN'T happen, so I'm keeping my expectations in check... but damn if that doesn't sound possible
@Folkloner I am very confused, because I did not ask a question.
