Re: Surprise, Surprise! Super Mario 3D All-Stars Prices Skyrocket As Scalpers Set Up Shop

How do you call it scalping when the game has been freely available for months with a clear warning that this game will stop being produced. How is that any different from collectors who buy with the hope of the item increasing in value? I know these listings are ridiculous, but there will come a time when it does increase in value and is sold for above the MSRP. We use the term scalper waaaaaay too loosely these days.

Re: Soapbox: The Modern Games Industry Has A Hype Problem, And It Needs To Stop

This article is very much spot-on. I mean, back in the days of Nintendo Power, they would release info on game and stuff, but I believe those games were MUCH further along in their cycle, like nearly released, and it was more of a "preview" than a hype machine. But today, we have the 24-hr news-feed mentality that wasn't an issue back in the 90's in the gaming world, and so people are addicted to something new and exciting. But I definitely feel you, people move on WAY too fast and don't actually enjoy the good content that's out there. And honestly, I have to detach from news sites to even feel good about enjoying old games. News sites make me feel like I'm missing out on something better constantly, so I try to read some things here and there, but for the most part I don't take part in the hype.

Re: Two Members Of "Notorious" Video Game Piracy Group Team Xecuter Arrested

I definitely understand protecting IP and fighting piracy, but these kind of things always make me concerned about precedents they set. It should not be illegal to write code to exploit a vulnerability, as long as that vulnerability is reported to the owner of respective property. I'm quite sure these guys didn't do that, but the charges don't really enumerate that fact. Also, as some have said, it also sets a bad precedent for the owner of the hardware, because if I want to hack my hardware, that's my business. There needs to be parameters set that define what is acceptable hacking and what is not. Obviously these guys were on the bad extreme end of things, so I'm not saying they should get off. I'm just saying there needs to be parameters defined.

Re: Nintendo Badge Arcade Updated, More Free Plays For Everyone

hypercoyote

@Baker1000 Yeah, I didn't really understand that comment either. I guess he means the random 'blue target' badge you find in the practice catcher that gives you one play as opposed to the 'red target' one that now gives you 3 free plays. But that blue badge always gave you one free play, so I don't see a change there, just with the red badge.
