Nintendo Badge Arcade has been updated in Europe, a fact which should make it a little more appealing to those who have resisted its free-to-play charms thus far.
Version 1.3.1 requires 627 blocks of free space and ups the number of free plays offered to players. The super bonus from the Practice Catcher now gives three free plays instead of the usual two, and a dummy badge also provides a free play if you manage to grab it. Bonus!

I've collected quite a few badges and I've never spent a penny. OK, so you get a free theme if you do, but most of the themes are butt ugly
massive fan of this and have never paid anything for it
Got loads of badges never paid, but the thing is there isn't more free plays as it said the chance of getting a special in practice catcher is the same as it was, just you might get a 1 play or a 3 play. And oh look add those together divide by two, 2 plays per special badge, it isn't an upgrade what so ever! Just a gimmick to look like you are getting more. Pointless.
With all the money I've given Badge Arcade (more than I want to admit to) I'll gladly accept some extra free plays.
I pay sometimes if I get most of a set, but only have a couple left. That's how they get you!
I've collected 288 badges without spending anything.
we already have this in NA. I have 364 badges. I pay if I really want a set of badges. But I haven't spent more than $20 playing this game.
i got a eshop card for christmas so ill admit that ive spent some money on this. but i love being able to customize my system so i dont regret it. Im hoping for more of the pixel collection to drop soon. I'd love to drop Consoles badges on folders to help seperate all my games. I need a 3DS, NES, Game Boy Advance, Game Gear And Genesis icons to make a complete set for Organization purposes.
Though I'd have to figure out what to use for the eShop games...
There's a homebrew that allows the creation of custom badges. Nothing is better to decorate the home menu than a (ultra)mega custom badge. And it even cures you of the addicion of playing it everyday.
@Bunkerneath: I might be wrong on this one since I haven't played the game for few months but I thought that the bonus in practice catcher gave you 2 free plays every time you got one and now it seems that they'll be giving out 3 instead. To me it looks like they just increased the amount of free plays you get from bonus by one.
Sweet news, so they're back up to the 1.2 levels of free plays, which Japan got to enjoy.
Good news, but not great. I really miss Coindexter (our name for the bunny) but not sure if that's enough to get me playing again, but Tinned doesn't really want me to b/c we aren't spending any money on it anyway.
@damo - I've read this sentence several times but it doesn't seem right, even accounting for the language differences.
"and ups the new of free plays offered to players"
I think "new" should maybe be "number" or "amount"? I tried reading it as "news" but that didn't quite work either.
So, you can basically get like 10 free plays when you get 10 badges, rather than one for every 10 badges you manage to accumulate? Or have I read that wrong?
Also, will the drop rate of super bonuses stay the same or they'll effectively balance it out by dropping them less?
I'm just waiting for the Megaman badges to drop.
@Baker1000 Yeah, I didn't really understand that comment either. I guess he means the random 'blue target' badge you find in the practice catcher that gives you one play as opposed to the 'red target' one that now gives you 3 free plays. But that blue badge always gave you one free play, so I don't see a change there, just with the red badge.
@rjejr Thanks for the catch, fixed
I want to say the red badge has been giving 3 plays in NA for a while now... though it hardly matters, as you'd be lucky to get even one per week.
Glad the United Kingdom is finally getting this update! The badge arcade is much more fun with free plays!
I've spent about 5 bucks on this so far, but only because there were Yoshi's Woolly World (and other Yoshi-related) badges that I really wanted. I think €5 really isn't that much to spend on this, but I'm definitely not going to spend much more on this. Maybe if they'll ever have more Yoshi-themed sets I'll spend another buck or two on it, but otherwise, it's all free plays for me. And this update brings on more free plays, so huzzah for that!
I have collected over 250 stamps without spending a single dollar so far and this update will just make grabbing more a bit easier!
@hypercoyote Ok so I've got the update and basically, the blue's still give one but the reds give 3. I got a blue on my first practice, which is funny because I literally only ever had one before now. It was always reds I got. I bet the frequency of the red bonuses will be less now, while you'll get blue ones all the time. They give with one hand, take with another...
@Baker1000 Maybe it'll flip for me because I used to get blues all the time.
NA red badge already gave 3 plays but it doesn't show up enough to make it anymore appealing. Probably only get 1 or 2 a month if you play every day.
What does this mean "a dummy badge also provides a free play if you manage to grab it"? Is it the normal 10 fake badges, 1 for every fake badge, or 1 guaranteed each day if you grab at least 1 fake badge.
Useless. It is possible to make our own custom badges with homebrew.
Still, I never understood this, IMO its a waste of space on the menu. Only the shortcut ones seems nice.
Why isn't this on the wii u??? It would be great to customise folders on the home screen!
@Gridatttack by that logic, the whole eshop is useless. You can get all the custom games you want with homebrew too.
Anyway, let's stop talking about modifying our systems, I'm sure you guys have plenty of places to talk about that.
I've paid a few times to complete the sets for FE-Fates and LBW. Still, I don't mind when it costs only as much as a soda.
blue ones? i never had blue ones
Ooh, I'd like that Link on Master Cycle badge to show up in NA!
It doesn't worth wasting money on this. I'm glad there's a free-to-play option.
My eShop money suddenly disappears whenever new Splatoon or Nikki badges come up.
This game take more than a minute to load for me.
Is it like this for everyone?
@FarsanBaloo yeah, it's always been like that, takes a couple minutes to load.
@twistedbee I've done the same thing! I was also trying to work out what I could put on an eshop folder. Maybe Boxboy...?
@Pahvi Since the begining the practice catcher had both a blue bonus badge that gives 1, a red bonus badge that gives 2/3, and any non bonus badges were added up with a free play at every ten.
@InternetBowser You're likely to, but it's not guaranteed. You get a free play either by collecting 10 dummy badges, a blue one, or three play for a red one. 9 out of 10 times, I either get the 10 badges or a blue dummy badge, although sometimes I don't get anything.
I've... Collecting far far too many badges. Close to 3000.
I feel the shame.
I won a TON of free badges (never paid a cent!) and I don't display any of them on my home screen because it causes such an annoying slowdown loading it up. I'd rather just have a gallery with backgrounds I can decorate than cluttering up my home screen. I put all the badges away and never messed with it anymore.
@Kiyata
Is that on the new 3ds or regular? The slowdown I mean.
@SetupDisk so far just on my old 3ds XL systems. Just got a "new" 3ds XL this week but have not put badge arcade on it yet.
I have a simple question: Does those badges eat up memory-space? I would like to collect them just for collecting (and without spending money, of course), but I am afraid it eats up memory-space!
@Henmii : No, they don't. I'm pretty sure that the badges are stored in the inaccessible portion of the internal memory reserved for the system firmware. I could be wrong, but the badges themselves are fully integrated with the firmware.
Thanks! If so, I might start properly collecting them soon (I only have a few badges yet)!
Does anyone know how you put one of the icon badges on the actual icon? I have ones to replace the music, store, settings and other icons for the home menu, but when I try to put them on it, it doesn't work. Honestly, the only thing I can do with the badges is add them to empty slots on the system...is that all you do with them?
So I downloaded this after reading about it here, and I only got 2 free plays. It showed me five, but I got all the badges in 2 plays, so are the other 3 plays forfeited? It wants me to pay for any more tries. I thought free plays would be free plays.
This game infuriates me to no end, but I do love those badges...
Am I the only one who thinks badge arcade is completely pointless?
@rockodoodle
I see your point from a perspective that they're JUST digital images of what would otherwise be very cool looking pins, but to an artist or someone who wants to make their gaming menu look more personalized, it is a neat thing to decorate your app displays.
Kind of like decorating your fridge with magnets.
