The official Pokémon YouTube channel just aired its Post Malone Virtual Concert Experience, celebrating 25 years of pocket monsters. If you're yet to see the American rapper and songwriter's performance, you can watch the full 13-minute show right here.
Post sings a handful of tracks - with one of them being a cover of Hootie and the Blowfish’s 1995 hit 'Only Wanna Be with You'. As we previously noted, the original record was last seen on the Billboard charts 25 years ago, meaning it fits right in with Pokémon's 25th-anniversary celebrations. This show is also being used to kick start the Pokémon 25 music program:
"It will also serve as the launch activation for the franchise’s yearlong P25 Music program. The Pokémon Company International has teamed up with Universal Music Group to bring this concert and more music surprises to life throughout 2021 as part of P25 Music."
Other artists joining the celebrations include Katy Perry, J Balvin and more. You can learn more about this over on the official Pokémon website. Included in the celebrations this week were the announcement and reveals of Pokémon Legends: Arceus and Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

Haven't watched yet, didn't even know this happened.
Honestly, not that interested.
No way, thank you.
I think I'll pass. Pokemon day, at least for me, ended yesterday with the game announcements.
Autotuned too much. 😆
You would think they would choose the songs that are already clean from the get go. But no. They didn’t
Meh
Hopefully, they have Dungeon Explorers of Sky hiding somewhere
Maybe Let's go Johto...
I'll take more news on New DP, like do they have Platinum content?
Out of all the people, why...him? Out-of-touch marketing team strikes again
Never thought I would hear “It was just the sex though” in an official Pokémon video.
#Pokemonmastersex
This was bizarre but it did make me want to experience a virtual reality universal-type ride but with Pokémon.
No thank you. I still retain my sweet pokemon memories from my childhood and I don't want them to get ruined by this trash. I'll do my best to forget all this even happened.
A music video beginning with giant, floating, T-posing Pokemon is never a good sign.
You didn’t miss anything... not worth the watch
..lp...... help..... me.....
The Pokemon Company ####ing Used Screech.
It was ### d### Super ####ing Effective!
I wonder if any of these environments were pulled from New Pokémon Snap. The underwater Lanturn scene in particular looked really similar to the Chinchou scene we saw in the game trailer.
Woof, that Post Malone model looks awkward next to those Pokémon. I'm coining a term here: aesthetic whiplash. Whose idea was this?
A terrible render of a terrible artist with random pokemon stuff in the background. That's all this was
I swear every time something is posted that’s about something/someone mainstream praising/enjoying Nintendo like Ariana Grande, Beyoncé, Brie Larson, Post Malone, Lady Gaga etc yall complain 😂🥱. Celebs are allowed to like things we like as well. You’re not cool for acting so anti and above liking popular things.
Post Malone is a big fan of Pokémon and they asked him to promote for the 25th anniversary. That’s it lol. I mean they could’ve cleaned the songs a bit to not make it sound like obvious swearing and suggestive content but at the end of the day Pokémon OK’ed it.
I guess I felt the opposite of everyone commenting above. I barely knew who Post Malone was before this so I didn’t have any preconceived opinions. I had heard that circles song before but didn’t know the artist, thought it was a pretty catchy song. I like his redo of the Hootie song. The animation sequences were good. Pretty entertaining. I guess it might be better to just enjoy a thing for what it is rather than trying to be super critical of everything only to ruin it for yourself and not be able to have any fun anymore.
@CosmoXY The gaming community can be really toxic, especially when it comes to anything related to Pokémon on this site’s comments section. It sucks, but at least the top comments on YouTube seem mostly positive.
This moron's stupid face looks like a 2 year old took a marker to it while he was asleep.
Nice autotuned concert.
i don't care about his music at all. But concert was fine. I like the visuals. looks really nice. And the cover of Hootie & the Blowfish was good.
I feel like I'm too old to comment on Post Malone and what kids are listening to these days. But it brings me joy to read these comments and see that apparently no one liked this.
@g_ruz Yeah, I’m aware of the negativity. It’s an odd thing, people that like video games also like to hate video games.
@TheFox That is a weird thing to be joyful about.
@invictus4000 Chill dude.
With all due respect to these artists, are all the upcoming songs gonna be this... irrelevant to Pokemon? It feels more like they just picked up the song because its release would line up with the 25th anniversary celebration, rather than making/picking a song that celebrates the 25th anniversary itself.
I was kinda hoping they'd go the soundtrack route like the songs during the 4Kids era (2.B.A. Master, The First Movie, 2000, and Pokemon 3: The Movie). Or shoot, that Bump of Chicken music video we got a few months back. Give us more of that!
The only thing good I got from all of that was umbreon jamming for my profile picture.
If these sorts of trashy sell-outs are who they want acting as ambassadors for a family-friendly brand, then they may as well have gotten Cardi B, Nicki Minaj, and Khia to sing about Wet Mudbray Purugly with tastefully muted vulgarities.
Children nowadays are exposed to enough garbage without it seeping into media that is likely to appeal to them. We're a long way away from the censoring of the line "he started kissing me" to "he said he loved me" of M2M's signature song for the Mewtwo Strikes Back soundtrack.
@Blooper987 That's just another example of Pokemon not caring about the more hardcore fans and catering only to casuals. It's not just the sex like he said. Individual Value, ability, nature, EV, hidden abilities, all matter. If it was just the sex as he says everyone would just have a whole box of shinies!
As someone who has never been cool and has no desire to be so, I think it’s hilarious Mr modern rapper with his auto tune is singing one of my favourite bands Hootie to appeal to the kids. 😂
basically its ***** dont watch it
I just don't understand why they couldn't sing something.....I dunno, pokemon related? For the pokemon anniversary? I don't think it's weird to expect the anniversary celebration to actually be related to what they're celebrating.
@PBandSmelly out of touch? youre clearly ignorant asf. go check post malone's monthly listeners to see how big he is. he's been relevant to the culture. you're just not in it.
all you post malone haters are so corny. yall are the reason why i'm embarassed to be a Pokemon fan.
What a waste of time. I'm looking forward to whatever Katy Perry will do, because it'll obviously beat this a million times over.
i didn't even make it through the first song before closing it, way too heavy on the autotune
Also, I just want to throw this out there...
Pokémon in 2000 gave us Donna freaking Summer (may she rest in peace) and Weird Al Yankovic. Both pop culture/music legends in their own right.
The first film also had plenty of 90s pop icons in the soundtrack (Westlife, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Emma "Baby Spice" Bunton, Colleen "Vitamin C" Fitzpatrick) though I'll admit I'm not terribly nostalgic for 90s bubblegum pop, but they were at least producing family/kid-friendly tracks.
Meanwhile in 2021...
If Post Malone was playing in my garden, I would shut the curtains.
Cringe but I also loved it. Handy that I like Post Malone, doubt I'll like the other "concerts".
Looked like a scuffed version of the travis scott fortnite concert
I like this Eurobeat version. 😎
Eurobeat makes the songs better.
This is uncanny valley, the model reminds me of chairman Rose.
I like the song even if I hate most post 2000 rap etc from America.
I thought this was cute, dunno why people are hating on it so much. Jeez, it's a 10min music video. Are you gonna complain about that as well? Get a grip
I honestly do not care for most of his music. There is maybe one song I like but the Autotune is out of control. If they were going for a vibe it would seem like The Weekend would be a better fit but I am not a Pokeman fan either. I do love the Pickachu song.
Nothing like slow-tempo music that your Nan would listen to, to evoke memories of decades of videogames, and one of the best tv theme tunes ever...
Sorry, I could not enjoy this. His face is the last thing that should be shown in a Pokemon video.
The concert was extremely too short, because of that it made me a bit depressed and because of that I end up sleep at least extra 3+ hours. So in my case it was waste of Pokémon fans money usage.
@zeldabotwgoat
Out of touch as in he really doesn't fit the vibe of pokemon and stuff is what I'm saying. I know basically nobody does but when I think pokemon concert with celebrity, I don't think of somebody with face tattoos
Lol, Post Malone...
I like how the Ecruteak theme was incorporated.
This is just ugly, trash, pointless... there aren’t enough words to describe. I hate this.
You can terminate your marketing staff and partners for cause and hire replacements at any time, TPC.
I dig all styles of music but am primarily an avid metal listener, so most game/franchise soundtracks usually don't have me ecstatic. However, Post Malone can sing and in fact play guitar very well. He tried out for a couple metal bands before going solo, say what you want about his music but he has put in the time to be a musician, even if you think this is not the case. Saying that, there are so many struggling artists out there it would be nice to see games promoting them and they would also get to do it for free. It's not really like Pokèmon needs to advertise to the world, like Post Malone fans have never heard of Pokemon so they will suddenly gain new money sources from his performance.
@PBandSmelly Does someone's visual appearance really make them unqualified to perform a song or project their enthusiasm towards art and culture? Althought this is pretty obvious; if you don't have expectations of how an a performer should look, it makes it much easier to enjoy anything they might create.
@AJDarkstar Dude is extremely talented.
This is absolutely terrible.
Watched it, saw charizard, and immediately regretted it. Tbh, the visuals look stunning, but why Post Malone? Why him out of all people. And why are the lyrics not related to Pokemon? Honestly I'm really confused. They could have just got a group of people to sing the theme song of the first season of the anime. THAT would make more sense. But nooo, instead we get a generic rapper with some CGI and autotuned edits. Like I'm not even mad, I'm just in shock.
I mean, I enjoy Post Malone, but this was just a weird meshing of cultures. The choice of songs was bizarre and pretty unrelated. I get that he's a fan, but if that's the case, then sing something that fans will enjoy. Just because he's a fan of Pokemon doesn't mean fans of Pokemon are fans of him.
