Re: Nintendo Reveals The 2013 Club Nintendo Elite Rewards

I started to complain that our rewards (USA) weren't as good Japan's, but seeing all the UK posts, I feel bad now. I imported the MM soundtrack years ago, but that seems like the better choice over the posters....Although the Japan soundtrack was 2 discs, so I'm wondering if that picture is only showing 1 of the 2 or the soundtrack is actually not as complete as it says it is.

Re: Miyamoto: Consumers Should Have Access To Their Games "For A Long Time"

On the topic of taking away things, I still remember my PS3 I purchased that had the ability to run Linux.....until Sony decided it was a security hole and took the entire feature away rather than patching the hole. I'm still baffled as to how that was not illegal (yes, I know it was in the TOS, but even things in TOS have to abide by existing laws to be legally binding).

And yea, the toy comparison is on point. I guess that's why I've always liked Nintendo, it's like throughout the years, they still have the same philosophy about making great games. Nintendo succeeds because they make great games. I feel like most mainstream games succeed not because they're great games but because they feed the majority of non-core gamers' desire for violence, sex, whatever, thus boosting their sales enough to turn a profit.

"Nintendo had also confirmed that the link capability of the originals — which back in the day would have set gamers back a fair amount of cash — would be included for those that buy both downloads".

You could have accomplished the 'link' capability with a password that you passed between the two games, so it wasn't like you had to have two systems to do it. I never did the actual system link, does that allow you to bypass the whole password system? Or do you have to keep re-linking them up when you want to go back to your other game?

Re: In Q1 2013 More Money Was Spent On iOS Games Than On 3DS And Vita Software Combined

iOS games are cheaper than 3DS/Vita games, but generally people jump from one game to another in less than a week, whereas on the 3DS/Vita, people generally buy one game every few months. So we can say that, roughly, people spend about the same per day for each system. So then you have to consider how many 3DS and Vita units are there out there and how many iOS devices are out there. At that point, the higher numbers will simply go to the side with more devices, which I believe will easily fall to iOS.

@Einherjar Oh, I agree, I don't think length is a substitute for difficulty at all. I'm actually the opposite, I'd rather have a great, challenging, short game than one that drags out. I mean seriously, who wants to go watch a move that's 6 hours long and sucks over a 1 hour masterpiece? Metal Gear Solid 4 is a great example, as you mentioned, of a game that should've been a movie. I forget how many HOURS of cutscenes were in that game (like 9 or more), with the last cutscene being over an hour and a half long. I loved the story, but that game was brutal to play, it was just annoying and I found myself trudging through the gameplay just because I wanted to know the story.

Is it really that the games are dumbed down or that the challenges have shifted to other areas. I hate to say that all games are dumbed down, though I do feel DS titles tend to be a lot easier than console. I feel like most console titles make up for challenge with length of games. I remember beating Super Metroid in a couple of days, but it was difficult the first time through. But it would take me a couple of weeks to beat Assassin's Creed because there so much dialogue and cutscenes.

Re: Nintendo Reveals Plans For Wii U Virtual Console

And companies wonder why people pirate games.... maybe because emulators have been doing these things for years. Save states should have been implemented with the first virtual console titles. So basically features get withheld, you buy the game, then they make you pay to get "new" features. I think Nintendo should allow them to be downloaded free of charge as a courtesy to loyal customers who continue to support their systems. For people who downloaded a LOT of games, that $1/$1.50 charge will add up quick.

As much as I loved this game (In my top 3), I think Majora's Mask would have been the better candidate for an update....Just hoping they do more than port it and update the graphics. Miiverse is kind of, meh and doesn't sound like there will be any other extra planned at this time. I guess what really annoys me is how much time I spent getting all the trophies in the GCN release and now I know I'm going to be compelled to do it again!
