For those of us that were immersed into the worlds of Xenoblade Chronicles and Xenoblade Chronicles X, the upcoming Xenoblade Chronicles 2 on the Switch is an exciting release. Those that want to go all-in also have the option of a Collectors Edition and Pro Controller design, which are certainly tempting.

Details on the various options are below (the collector's edition and Pro Controller are limited to one per customer, the 'fan pack' includes a poster and pin).

Got the fan pack as money is tight and I have space for the poster alongside my XCX ones.
Wish I could afford the controller...
All I want out of special editions are soundtrack, artbook and steelbook. It's perfect.
Tricky one this! I pre-ordered in Japan
btw - Does the european one have languages other than English?
I've been burned by collectors editions of games too many times. Other than the Switch carrying case that came with Breath of the Wild, I haven't touched a single item from that collectors edition since I bought it. I'm not going to get burned anymore by pretty boxes full of useless stuff.
£79.99 for the collectors edition seems insane! Considering FE Warriors was £64.99 and contained the same items....
Ordered like it was a nervous twitch! Totally bi-passed the brain lol.
@BLP_Software the game itself is £41.99 on Amazon, £39.99 if you're a Prime member
What brutalpanda said. But sadly the soundtrack is just a selection as far as i know. Why even bother?
@G0dlike FEW has 3 disc soundtrack and cards. This has CD Soundtrack, Steelbook and artbook so its a bit more then FEW. Still pricey, but meh.
Well, Nintendo is lucky I love the first game so much..... T.T
@Angelic_Lapras_King fair enough. I mean, I’ve ordered it anyway. Got the collectors editions of the 1st 2 Xenoblade Games so might as well make it a holy trinity!!
Buying Special Editions is far more fun to open when they arrive in the post or you go to pick them up form the shop!
Plus! You support the publisher more and you get Lovely Things! mmmmmm.... Lovely Things!
Hmmm don't think buying a special or collectors edition of a game franchise I have never played before is wise..especially at a ridiculous price like that.
@G0dlike Same, I also have the 3DS port with the New 3DS Face Plates they bundled with them....despite yet to own the smaller New 3DS Model. XD
Got mine from Amazon for £39.99. I’d love the special edition, but double the price for a CD, book and steelcase seems like a lot of money for little gain.
The XCX Special Edition was $80 US and made a great Christmas gift for me. This one is going for $100 and Amazon no longer discounts collectors editions, meaning I can get the game for $48 or spend double for this. $52 for a metal case, CD and art book seems way too much, so I think I'm going to have to pass.
As for the controller, well I really like the look of it, but not sure a paint job is worth an extra $5, $70 already seems like a lot for a controller. If I can find it w/ some sort of discount Id' pick it up, but not full price. Still have to find out if Nitneod made Super Mario Odyssey fully usable w/ the Pro, I've read there's a lot of motion only stuff going on. I'm nto even buying a Pro if I can't play Mario with it.
Maybe if Nintneod wasn't making me pay $20 for a case in the Switch Mario bundle I'd have more money to spend on more things.
@Stevemc79 Oh sure, ninja me by 22 seconds, writing the exact same thing so concisely.
@Angelic_Lapras_King haha! Yep, me too, although I do have a smaller New 3DS though
Now that's a nice Collector's Edition.
Edit: And then I see the price. SMH. Initial joy obliterated. The XCX Collector's Edition on Wii U was €60. What's with the 50% increase in price?
Already canceled my preorder for the standard version for this. All I still need to get is the Xenoblade Pro Controller.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE could be the game card. Given the scope of the Xenoblade games it’s likely the highest capacity.
@gb_nes_gamer It can't be down to just that. Both are fairly similar in content.
America got the really cool extra Lifehold Pod shaped USB drive with the soundtrack.
We in Europe sadly missed out.
@rjejr Given the motion was displayed only when using a Joy-Con in each hand and they openly stated there is another control scheme for use when in handheld mode/Joy-Con Grip...I find it hard to imagine that doesn't translate to Pro Controller too.
@BLP_Software Have you read this article? Sections of the game sound very motion dependent.
"The other half of it is that Nintendo has mapped a lot of abilities to motion controls, and many of them just don’t work as well using a traditional controller. More advanced hat throws — like sending Cappy spinning around Mario in a circle, or throwing the hat up or to the side — are awkward to implement using stationary controls. So while launching that spin throw with the detached Joy-Con is as simple as flicking your controllers to the side, doing the same thing with docked gamepads or the Pro Controller requires rapidly spinning Mario in a circle and then launching Cappy with a button press.
YOU ALSO CAN’T AVOID MOTION CONTROLS
You also can’t avoid motion controls: some things are reliant on them, even if you’re using a more traditional control scheme. This is particularly true when it comes to captured enemies, most of which almost always have additional abilities that are tied to a flick of the controller. Possessing a Cheep-Cheep will let you swim around without worrying about air, but your only defense is a motion-activated attack that requires shaking the controller. If Mario captures a Lava Bubble or a frog, he’ll be able to jump higher if you shake the controller while jumping, actions that just work more naturally with the undocked Joy-Con than it does a stationary gamepad."

Sounds like you can play w/ the Pro, but miss out on doing stuff. That's not good.
I think I like the outer box more than the extras. Didn't realise it was just a 'sound selection' CD when I pre-ordered. I'll be cancelling posthaste.
@rjejr So things require motion controls? No worries then. Guess what the Pro Controller supports?
So fun fact for you. In Zelda and Splatoon when using a Joy-Con in each hand the only one to do anything relating to motion is the right Joy-Con. When they are in the grip it is the same. Notice how the Switch doesnt distinguish between free hand and in the grip? When playing those games with them in their grip all motion is handled by the Right Joy-Con and when using a Pro Controller, all these same motions are possible: flicks, shaking, gyro aiming, etc.
So in Odyssey what we see is abilities mapped to the usage of the right Joy-Con.
Anything possible via gyro controls that doesn't require the IR Sensor is possible when using a Pro Controller or the Grip.
So chill and dont worry.
You dont miss out on doing stuff or lose access to mechanics. Its just instead of shaking one hand you shake the controller as a whole.
I wonder why they don't do special editions for games like Mario Odyssey, Splatoon or ARMS? I wonder what makes Nintendo decide whether to do one for a game or not?
@SLIGEACH_EIRE that’s a cool USB stick. I didn’t know about that. It’s a shame we missed out on that.
But I’ve read the article on this site that the price increases greatly for higher capacity game cartridges. 8,16,32 gig etc. While discs are cheaper to manufacture.
The term ‘fan pack’ seems redundant as presumably if you’re a fan you’re more inclined to drop £80 on the collectors’ edition.
I’m disappointed I won’t get the pin badge that comes with the ‘fan pack’.
Meh... For what I've seen the character design is all over the place - making the artbook less desirable.
Normal version is fine. Use the extra cash towards NinoKuni2.
The steelbook looks nice and I really like that pro controller not that I need another one.
The controller is nice, but I already own the regular Pro and the Splatoon 2 Pro (and mainly use the Joy Con for local multiplayer), so I think I'll pass. Hoping they keep these special controllers coming, though! (Fire Emblem, please.)
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I still can't download my songs off of it because it only works on Windows because they decided they couldn't just save it to it like the jump drive it is. Nope, have to install .exe software.
Gamestop still has it up for preorder as well for the US. I didn't realise it was available yet until this article, so thank you!
i had mine preordered a month ago from gamestop.
@brutalpanda
Same here. I dont care about those DLCs and those stupid action figures and statutes. Steelbook and artbook are best additions to an already great game. A bit pricey though. I don’t normally buy this limited editions, but I’m madly in love with this game.
@BensonUii I think since the artbook is 200 pages with soundtrack and steelbook, then those are worth $40 put together. Although I will be getting 20% off from Best Buy.
I would buy this if it was in my price range, and if I had a Switch
I've had a closer look at the steelbook. It's nowhere near as nice as the one for XCX. That's subjective of course.
It will also be interesting to see what the back and inside look like.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I like the fact it is new artwork for the cover as opposed to the original promo pic / standard cover of X.
@GrailUK I think you mean, you like that it's different from the standard cover. It's not new artwork, it's been around awhile. Here's a closer look at it with the background characters less silhouetted out.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Ye, I like it's different from the standard box lol. Wasn't aware it was old art, I haven't seen it anywhere other than the tin box. Hey! Have you bought a Switch yet??
Was going to buy the Collector's Edition as a present, but £80!!! That's verging on ridiculous.
Times have changed... The Xenoblade Chronicles Limited Edition for Wii had the exclusive 'red' Wii Classic Controller Pro included for 70€.
Now I have to pay 70€ for the controller alone.
I still need a better Switch controller (the Joy-Cons don't work great with every game), so now's time to get the Xenoblade Switch Pro Controller.
I love that people are whining about the price. It's like you absolutely have to get Collectors edition.
@Justifier No but people would like to have it. Not at that price though.
capitalism means that it is worth what others are willing to pay.
i am happy to pay it because, a)i think this game will be epic b) the artbook looks really nice c) the steelbook looks really nice (although we havent seen all of it i cant see them messing it up) d) the soundtrack CD will have the highlighted tunes (70+mins i would imagine) i get some people want it to be thr complete soundtrack but is that really needed,?
It sounds like allot of people moaning about nothing here, you dont have to buy it, i think it is worth the extra £40 personally but maybe thats just me.
do we know how big the artbook is? ie dimensions? could be huge for all we know....)
@Justifier Same with DLC for games. People forget what the meaning of the word "optional" is. >_>
Isn't this the normal price for collection editions? At least here in Sweden (here it cost around 93 euro). I remember buying Tokyo Mirage Sessions collection edition and it cost me over 100 euro.
I mostly buy them for the nice looking box art.
Is that pro controller the same as the Splatoon one? or is this a different shade of pink? both ways its lame.
As tempted as I was to get the collectors edition, I just couldn't warrant paying twice as much as I would pay for the game alone on Amazon.
As for the pro controller... I'm holding out for as long as I can before getting any additional controllers for my Switch... I have no problem with using the joy-cons for single-player, and haven't had any need to play more than 2-player yet, and the joy-cons do the trick for that as well... and even when I do get a pro controller, it'll most likely just be the cheaper plain black one.
@BLP_Software "Anything possible via gyro controls that doesn't require the IR Sensor is possible when using a Pro Controller or the Grip."
Well that's good to know. What happens when playing in handheld mode? I'll never play that way, but I have 2 kids who will. Shaking a $300 console all over the place kind of has me worried a bit.
@rjejr It uses the right Joy-Con again I believe. They remain on securely though, just a little wobble because of how the rails work.
@BLP_Software Thanks, guess we'll see how it goes next weekend. Switch may be nice, but it's giving me a headache. Micro SD card is in the mail, due today, so at least that's taken care of limited extra expense; bought a USB A-C charger and cable but Jaxon told me it's garbage and I shoudln't use it bc/ Switch doesn' tplay well w/ Qualcomm Quick chargers, so I'm thinking about buying a USB amp meter for $10 so I can check every charging device I have, including my car USB port which I believe is 1amp but I can't be sure. And wondering about what controllers to use. And how to charge the Joycon while I'm playing in docked mode. I actually bought a 2nd PS4 controller just b/c those batteries only last 4 hours, and I got sick of constantly charging the 1, so now I play on while I charge the other, it's almost constant. The Pro was supposed to be my answer to that, dont' want to spend another $80 on a pair of Joycon when I hate the Joycon. They are usable on the Grip, tried that at Target, but alone at Gamestop I just couldn't hold them in my hands and hit the buttons w/o thinking about it.
So every system has it's problems, but Switch has several, and I haven't even got it yet. We'll see.
@rjejr Youll get used to button placement over time trust me. I spent ages wanting to press + below the facw buttons. Its natural for any new scheme.
As for buying a charger i got nothing for you there. I assume thats for in car use? Otherwise the adaptor it has works fine from a wall socket.
As for charging the joycons when docked, fun fact, put the system in sleep mode and dock it overnight. The joycons charge. And they have 20 hour batteries so...you know...
@BLP_Software And they have 20 hour batteries so
Well 20 hours is pretty good so I'll stop worrying about that. We have a 12 hour car ride each way this Christmas - 5 hours each way for Thanksgiving, which is why we're getting the Christmas gift Oct 27th - so I was mostly worried about the kids playing 2 player in the car on the Joycon, we're buying Lego Marvel 2 just for the trip. And then when I play at home - only docked - I'll just put the Joycon on every night or so.
And the USB charger is for when the boys want to play in handheld mode. Joycon may last 20 hours but I've read the whole thing gets 4-6. There is going to be a time when they are in the middle of something and the battery runs out, they'll need a charger to play on handheld, trust me, each one has a 3DS plug next to there bed, they are very used to playing things while they are plugged in.
And I know every new system has it's quirks to get used to, but Switch is really 3 systems I have to plan for - docked, so I worry about Joycon battery life and motion controls, my kids will play a lot portable like they did on the Wii U Gamepad. I bought a new Wii U Gamepad charger for Zelda - 1 we kept plugged into the charger base, 1 to plug into the Gamepad itself for extended play time - so I needed a way to charge Switch w/o messing w/ that dock cable, and in the car the boys will play 2 player co-op so I need to keep the Joycon charged.
If the Switch battery situation doesn't work well for the shorter car ride first holiday I told the kids they can pony up for a battery bank for Christmas. I'll never play in the car so I don't need a battery bank, that's on them. Jaxon gave me a list.
@rjejr You just get them AC Adaptors since they have other things plugged in when portable. But meh, im never far from a plug if needed.
