Re: Nintendo Appears at Apple Conference to Announce Super Mario Run

foodmetaphors

Not surprising and it'll probably make money but this doesn't really interest me. Might give it a try depending on the fixed price (and I'll never spend a dime on IAP), but this is a genre where it's fun for about a few minutes and then I never wanna play it again.
I was really hoping Nintendo would do something cooler with these when they announced they were making mobile games but this is just a me-too instead of innovation. Not a great look.

Re: Dragon Quest XI Confirmed For Nintendo NX, For Real This Time

I plan on getting the NX at launch, but the 3DS version seems like it'll be the way to go after watching both versions in action (I'm assuming here that the NX version will be similar to the PS4's). Really neat that you get the 3D and 2D modes simultaneously so you can kind of swing the camera around while keeping the overall perspective grounded by looking at the bottom screen. Not to mention I imagine it should cost less which is always nice.

Re: Poll: How Excited Are You About Pokémon Sun and Moon?

For the first time I'm leaning towards getting both versions (I'll main in Moon & play catch up at work in Sun version), lots of benefits to this, I get all the version exclusives and I can trade with myself which makes leveling up competitive Pokémon faster plus potentially I get more bottle caps.

Re: Poll: Which Nintendo NX Games Do You Want to See in the Launch Window?

foodmetaphors

I picked only 4 (could have trimmed it down to 3) and didn't even include Zelda since we already know it's a launch title.

The games I picked and their reasoning are as follows:

NX Fit (this is the expendable one, just seems like something N likes to put on their consoles tho I've never played it)

3D Mario Platformer: preferably a remake of Sunshine since it's (correct me if I'm wrong) the only Mario platformer we can't play on Wii U .. and I've never played much of it

Animal Crossing: THIS ONE IS KEY, perfect game to have in that launch window, it gives you a reason to turn your system on every day after all the other games have been beaten. And we NEED an HD home console version of this after getting teased with Mario Kart DLC and amiibo Festival.

F-Zero: it's about damn time and we don't have to hear whining about no/crummy Battle Mode. Could be the game that really showcases the power of the NX as well as the other games are a little more cartoony/slower paced. Also checks off that needed multiplayer vs. box.

This gives the system plenty of variety and fun and I think these are some of the strongest series that we haven't seen in a while (we just got Kirby, Splatoon, Kart and many more recently)

Re: Talking Point: Retro-Focused, Innovative and Inexpensive Portables Should Be Part of Nintendo's Future

foodmetaphors

Here's my counterpoint: Sure these ideas are great and are fun and all and there's definitely a community there but it's not the type of community that's willing to spend a lot of money and it's not a community that can get Nintendo the profit margins it wants/needs to make. Better to let the small players fight over the scraps as Nintendo makes higher quality products that are dependable, fun and cheap enough to produce that they can make a good profit while still selling for less than other home consoles.
I don't mind paying what some consider high prices on retro games, Nintendo's problem is that there's no unity with their hardware so they essentially double dip on anyone who wants to play, say Super Mario Kart at home on their TV and on the go on their handheld. We should be able to buy a digital game once and have it tied to our account where it can be redownloaded anywhere said game is available. This is fairly common sense, it's like if I bought an album on iTunes on my Mac then had to rebuy that album to listen on my iPad. It's actually kind of embarrassing we have to go through this kind of thing in 2016.

Re: Animal Crossing On Smartphones Aims To Deliver "A New Style Of Play"

foodmetaphors

This could be great for bringing ppl back to their consoles. Animal Crossing is for everyone and everyone will now be able to play a probably watered down version which will hopefully draw them to the NX. It's all about getting that sales volume up. I just hope the app itself has more staying power than Miitomo which got boring real fast.
