Re: Switch Hardware Sales Reach 68.3 Million, Now Nintendo's Second Best-Selling Home Console Ever

foodmetaphors

I think it'll definitely top the Wii, possibly even by the end of 2021.. I think this holiday is going to be huge for it. Kinda surprised though that we haven't seen a Switch Lite bundle that has the Zamian & Zamazenta design plus Sword or Shield + DLC bundled in. Would be a huge seller for the holiday. Nevertheless, I think the Lite + the recently released expansion pass edition of the game will sell great. Though considering the Lite is handheld only, it's kinda hard to include it as "home console" sales. I love my Lite tho, and I preordered the OG Switch.. it's just such a better system IMO. I don't really care about gaming on my TV any more unless it's retro or multiplayer.

Re: Talking Point: Are Shiny Pokémon Too Common These Days?

You can actually get the odds to 1/64 by breeding with a shiny parent in gen 2 (and it's very easy to get a shiny Ditto using a trick with the Red Gyarados and the move Mimic and sending it to a gen 1 game)

I may or may not have abused this to get a buncha shiny pokes, then used another glitch to clone said shinies and then transferred them up to HOME in order to complete my National Dex. allegedly.

edit: the normal 1/8,192 odds are definitely a little ridiculous though.. It took me around 110-120 hours to randomly run into a shiny in HeartGold about a week ago. and it was a Magikarp facepalm

Re: Soapbox: 25 Years On, I Still Can't Get Into Yoshi's Island

I don't mind the Baby Mario cry, it brings a lot of urgency to a game that otherwise wouldn't have it except mainly in those challenge stages. I definitely prefer it to the get hit x number of times and you die mechanic from the Mario series.. the cry makes you want to very quickly get him back making those situations often very frantic. This is opposed to the mostly relaxed nature of just exploring at your own pace and trying to grab all the collectibles in one go. It also sometimes causes a restart if you lose too much time chasing him. Really makes you have to try to do the stage perfectly and avoid getting hit. Once you start learning the stage layouts and enemy patterns, it becomes pretty easy not to get hit and to focus on just finding every thing. The music and the art style make it a very fun and relaxing time. But not every one wants that from a platformer, some would like faster more direct action as in the rest of the Mario games.

edit: I should also note that there's a very good video on YouTube about the Super Donkey leak that goes more into the character every body is assuming is Stanley the Bug Man among other things by Justin Whang

Re: Feature: Every Nintendo Switch Online NES Game Ranked

foodmetaphors

My top 3 NSO NES games would be:

3. River City Ransom (never played this back in the day, only got introduced to this by my friend when it appeared on NSO.. so I've got no nostalgia for it obviously. And most games from this era that I didn't play back then are hard for me to enjoy such as Metroid and TLoZ. It's also a genre I've never gotten into much. That said this game is brilliant, I love the controls and all the little shops)
2. Kirby's Adventure
1. SMB3

If Kirby's Adventure provided more of a challenge that might change things as I love the power ups and controls and the aesthetics and music and every thing. SMB3 is just so good though, I play through both these games pretty regularly and I can pretty much go through them almost from memory without much difficulty.

Re: Poll: What Features Would You Want In A Switch 'Pro'?

a “home console” switch (Switch home?) makes the most sense to me. this would keep the cost down, especially if it was sold as just the box and it was byo joycon/pro controller(s)/switch lite which would make the transition for existing owners more palatable. another option would be a beefed up dock which would work with all existing switch models and would cost less than the standalone box, but cost more altogether for those who dont own any models yet.

in any case (pun intended), im not interested as the lite is perfect to me

Re: Talking Point: Switch Lite Expanded The Console's Reach In 2019

i’ve had a switch in my household since launch and have been wanting a second unit for some time but the lite seemed like the perfect thing to have instead of another regular one. my lovely wife got me one for xmas and i’m absolutely ecstatic because i finally have my own and dont have to wait my turn. i love the smaller size and the fact that the controls are built in. the regular switch feels a little off playing in handheld mode

Re: Guide: Where Can I Pre-Order The Nintendo Switch Super NES Controllers?

foodmetaphors

@Geobros looks like 4 controllers total per paid membership (either individual or family); from the website:

Limit four purchases per Nintendo Account with paid Nintendo Switch Online individual or family membership. Offer not available for free trial holders. This controller is optional and not required to play the Super Nintendo Entertainment System – Nintendo Switch Online collection of games.

that’s from NoA, not sure if this varies by region

Re: Gaming Analysts Predict 'Switch Pro' And 'Switch Lite' Revisions For 2019

@Seacliff “Jamming the same technology into a smaller space” wouldnt be the only change.. there’s no dock, no HDMI cable, there’s built in controls instead of joy-con so no need for those to have their own batteries or any mechanisms to attach or connect wirelessly. It’s also pretty old tech at this point, the chip inside the Switch was already over a year old when the Switch came out so this would be a 3-4 year old chip at that point. I think a Switch mini (or whatever it gets named) for $200 would be great and absolutely still profitable.
