Re: Saber Interactive CEO Doesn't Think $70 Video Games Are Sustainable

foodmetaphors

i only buy old games at this point and if i buy a newer game it's only when it's gone on sale. i just don't have enough time to play everything i wanna play anyways, so i can easily just wait out prices to drop. i have a huge back catalogue at this point so i probably won't even get nintendo's next system. my switch is more or less a minecraft machine at this point (my family and i all play on a realm together) and if i play something single player it's typically on my wii u or gba

Re: Nintendo Download: 13th April (North America)

@hel105 i ordered it too. ffvi is my favorite game and even though i own it multiple ways, i just had to have this in physical. already have a snes cart, gba cart, hacked my wii for the vc version (i was way too late to the owning a wii party) and i ofc have a snes classic. i also have the iOS version, but we don't talk about those

Re: This Is What The Pokémon Bank 3DS Shut Down Update Looks Like

foodmetaphors

@DiamondJim right? like it was very inexpensive but also if you’re using it then you spent minimum $80 on games and likely much more so to put this feature behind a paywall with a timer is kinda nuts. hopefully they keep it open forever but i don’t think they will. i give it about 5 years. this is one of the many reasons i’ve decided to play only gen v and earlier since there’s no issues with transfering my mons

Re: Talking Point: Which Gaming Moments Made You Question Your Intelligence?

foodmetaphors

I can't really think of any one specific thing other than a vague sort of issue I have with LoZ games, which is that it tends not to be the puzzles themselves that get me but just little random things that aren't really even puzzles. For a recent example, in Link's Awakening I had to move that weathercock to wake up that blue rooster. I knew I had to move it so I tried many things, playing the ocarina near it, grabbing it, shooting it, bombing it. Turns out you just have to move into it, D-pad only, no grabbing.

Re: Game Boy And GBA Coming To Switch Online Today

foodmetaphors

i thought i'd be more excited by this, but pretty much any of the games i'd want i already have on either 3DS or Wii U (or possibly both in some cases since I'm a 3DS ambassador and I may have double dipped). Nice for the people who don't have those systems ig. Still not gonna pay for the premium on that expansion pack

Re: Pokémon Scarlet And Violet Removes All Cases Of Pokérus From The Game

foodmetaphors

@KingMike sorry for the lateness of my reply. in gen II, whether or not a pokémon was shiny was determined by DVs (precursor to the gen III and up’s IV system). breeding passes on some DVs from the parents and so if you have one shiny parent, you can reduce the odds to 1/64 for any eggs to be shiny (there may be some exceptions but it’s been a while since i exploited this). obviously having a shiny ditto can give u a guaranteed parent with the desired DVs. now there’s a separate exploit one can do to get that shiny ditto, using the ability to send the red gyarados you get during the story back to gen I, and having the move Mimic, you can encounter a wild ditto, have it transform into and then have it use Mimic on your red gyarados it’ll copy its DVs and keep those DVs after it’s caught so that when it’s sent up to gen II it’ll be shiny. furthermore it’s obscenely easy to clone pokémon in gen II. i did this to send up boxes of cloned shinies and GTS them to complete my pokedex. did this in both gen VII and VIII but i dont really play the newer gens anymore so i probably won’t take it any further

Re: Soapbox: After 10 Years I'm Finally Getting A Wii U, But Where Should I Start?

foodmetaphors

Pushmo World, for some reason this is a Wii U exclusive, while the franchise has 3 entries on the 3DS and... that's it. No ports to Switch or anywhere else. I'd get the original Xenoblade Chronicles as well on the Wii U eShop as it's cheap and you can play it on just the Gamepad (of course provided you're close enough to the console). Great way to play this game, and even tho the definitive edition exists I like playing games in their original form.

first starter: bulbasaur (pokémon blue)
favorite starter: snivy
favorite pokémon: phanpy. i don’t even particularly like ground types and i’ve never even used one on my team, but the first time i saw it in heartgold i instantly fell in love with it
honorable mentions: mew, victini, dunsparce, vulpix, murkrow, whimsicott, sableye, zoroark

Re: Feature: Which Is The Absolute Best Nintendo Console Generation?

foodmetaphors

went with the Wii U/3DS altho i prefer the GBA and DS over the 3DS, the Wii U is my favorite console hardware by far and the software libraries for both systems are outstanding especially when u factor in their bc with WiiDS and their robust Virtual Console libraries. While the Switch had a ton of great software, the hardware just doesn’t do it for me; I’ll take the comfort of the Wii U gamepad over the Switch in portable mode and the Wii U Pro controller/Wiimote/Classic Controller/SNES mini controller options over any of the Switch’s controller options while also appreciating the 3DS’s ability to be pocketed over.. not being able to do that with a Switch

Re: Talking Point: Is It Ever A Good Idea To Start At 'The Beginning' Of Series Like Zelda Or Dragon Quest?

foodmetaphors

it really depends series to series. for something like final fantasy, there’s many right answers for where to start (as well as many wrong answers). you could go with the original especially one of the remakes of it and there’s plenty of options including the recent pixel remaster (that goes for all the original six games really tho i’d say only IV and VI are good starting points from those games). VII and IX and X are also good starting points. then there’s a series like GTA where there’s not much point in playing the older ones (and at this point V is no spring chicken itself) especially since they’ve not had any true remasters that actually improve them

Re: Talking Point: How's Your Switch Holding Up After 5 Years?

foodmetaphors

have a preordered launch day switch which is still running fine altho helped by the fact that i’ve hardly touched it in the last few years due to getting a switch lite and spending more time on my systems that are actually pocketable so mostly the kids use it these days and that competes with an xbone and ps4 plus their phones. i’ve actually got drift on three of the four sets of joy con and i jist got two pairs back from being repaired and waiting on the other two

Re: Hardware Review: GB Operator Lets You Switch Between Game Boy And PC With Ease

foodmetaphors

i'm really interested in this, but will wait for some more reviews and updates to the software before i jump in. the price is nice if nothing else than to just easily play on a bigger screen at home and then take my games with me to work (which is how I play roughly 85-95% of the time.. maybe this can push it closer to 70%). definitely beats dropping $300 on a gamecube with gameboy player. and that can't even back up my saves.

Re: Poll: Why Do You Collect Video Games?

foodmetaphors

starting last year i now only collect to play games. i guess i kinda always have but before i was a little less choosy with it especially digital games. now i buy only physical games and only for certain systems.. mostly snes, gba, ds and wii for now. i can't play any other way. if i have a system with 50 games digitally available to me at any time i play each game for a few minutes and then stop. with my physical collection, especially the handhelds, i pop a cartridge in and just play that until i beat it. it's more fun and fulfilling to do things this way. it's really annoying how much more expensive games from these systems have gotten but i just try to be picky and find good deals where i can.. and since i'm not collecting as an investment or for completeness sake, i pretty much just pick up loose carts of games i know i'm gonna play

Re: Memory Pak: My Very First Shiny Pokémon

foodmetaphors

i’ve never run into a shiny at full odds (1 per 8,192) ever and i’ve put in literally 1000s of hours (altho a lot of those hours belong to gen 6 and up which never have those odds). the one time i did get a shiny at full odds was while shiny hunting lugia in silver on 3DS virtual console. pretty proud of that tho i didnt count how many resets it took. i have many other shinies i’ve gotten from other methods such as using the ditto trick to get 1/64 odds on gen 2 or some from happenstance for example IV breeding a hawlucha when one popped up (luckily with its color scheme it’s super hard to miss) i’ve also gotten a spinda and caterpie while EV training and some shinies i’ve gotten from ultra wormholes or the friend safari

Re: The EverDrive GBA X5 Mini Solves The Only Real Issue We Had With The Original

foodmetaphors

i started buying gba games because i wanted to play with real hardware. i also like the fact that it keeps me focused on one game at a time (especially cause most of the time i have to play is during downtime at work and in those instances i only have a single cartridge with me). if i wanted something with all the gba games on it i’d much rather spend half as much and get something like a pocketgo or other dedicated emulation system

Re: Talking Point: The Problem With The X Button

foodmetaphors

for some reason i only have a problem when using an xbox controller at keeping the buttons straight. playstation’s never bothers me because while i still in my head call the “cross” an X, i think of it as the shape rather than the letter since all the rest are shapes (well circle could be O i suppose...)
