@Crockin it would make sense for them to try and establish Metroid as a long term IP like Mario or Zelda where you get at least a game a year. If we're lucky Trilogy next year and then Prime 4 in 2023(this may do a BOTW and sit across the next console release.
I don’t think it’s a case of 2D being worth x as a whole the camera perspective isn’t the only factor(although it can indicate a smaller dev team compared to a big 3D game so dev costs are less).I think you need to look at the individual case though, to me on appearance alone this game does not look as good as a number of metroidvanias released over the last few years which are a fraction of the cost. I don’t have a particularly affinity with the franchise so I see little value in what I saw in that trailer.
@JuiceMan_V it was pretty solid, I can easily fill my gaming year with game pass right up until Elden ring comes out. Would like to mix it up with some handheld action so high hopes that Nintendo bring it today. Although while the bar may be low(every showcase bar Xbox has been disappointing imho) there is plenty of scope for them to disappoint for example if this years big game is Pokemon remakes which we’ve already seen it will not go down well.
The ideal would be Mario Kart Ultimate similar sized roster with a broad church of characters, tracks and power ups. This could have been achieved in MK8 through DLC but I think too much time has passed at this point.
Kotor already looks great on Series X just using it’s built in upscalers. No reason the Switch couldn’t handle a decent remaster but a remake would need to be next gen focused as the point in its existence is 90% audio or visual.
@GamingFan4Lyf I think the GPU to consistently render a solid 1080P60 on desktop is more important to me than any AI upscaling to 4K(not that Nvidia aren't capable of making something that can do both side by side). I'm also rather spoilt by the speed of the Series X but I fully expect to be still using SD card on the "Pro" though!
I like directs, but they suffer from always being on at a weird time for someone. They also only work if there is a lot to show.
I'd happily take regular smaller directs instead for Indie and Partner with ones dedicated to the major Nintendo releases(Metroid,BotW2 etc) or special events(Switch Pro). Maybe depending on how they adapt you could see a full direct for E3 time(but it in essence would be a bunch of smaller directs linked together)
Metroid 4 or BOTW 2 would be ideal even if just a sneak peak, although I think they would save the latter for after March. Mario Galaxy 2 could be a curve ball as we are still in the Mario 35th window. But it will likely be a Smash character.
@JohnnyC Yeah thats what I'm thinking. PS has a lot more exclusives that are my sort of game, and the dual sense is appealing particularly after seeing(well feeling!) how Nintendo have used haptics on the Switch.
@JohnnyC That or age of Calamity for me. Although I still advent started Galaxy so that may edge it!
Surprised Xbox was lower they must be really struggling in terms of production. Still undecided on which next gen to go for. Xbox is a better value proposition with gamepass(I missed last gen apart from Switch so its pretty stacked with games I havent played). But the PS5 has better games at the moment although that may change with the Bethesda Acquisition.
The problem is EA have been allowed to get a monopoly on Football games. Theres a Wikipedia page for a list of football games and for PS4 13 out of 16 releases are PES or FIFA. They have a monopoly on the most popular sport on the most popular consoles. So when they decide its not worth supporting the Switch properly theres no path for anything else licensed to fill the void, which in turn empowers them to charge lots for minimal effort.
@Rayquaza2510 dunno, it seems "they" are pretty confident there will be some sort of new hardware. The updated tegra architecture is out there and seeing the BF deals on Switch hardware starting to pop up it feels like they are reducing price more than normal to maximise sales of the original.
Edit - realised I hadn't actually mentioned the game in question at all. I liked the demo although the frame drops aren't great. I really liked the last HW game and musou games if I know the characters(also liked Ultimate Alliance 3 but probably wouldn't have touched it if it wasnt Marvel characters).
@Kezza64 it makes good business sense. Nintendo is a different value proposition so theres no reason they cant put software on it(HW limitations aside). PS is a competitor to both so makes logical sense not to support it as well.
Half the top ten the week of a console launch is pretty good. Same with hardware sales. I think Switch is still expected to come out on top over the Christmas period anyway. If only because of the hardware shortfall on the other two!
@LunarFlame17 I keep looking at the Series S and thinking for a Game Pass device(and with it a lot of games I want to play and would save the cost of buying on Switch) it will be great but also I have a backlog and regardless I'll be unlikely to be able to buy one anytime soon anyway!
Voted SX and Switch but in reality I will probably pick up the Series S for Gamepass. I've realised I could play half of the cross platform games I don't have on Switch yet(Doom Eternal, Outer Worlds, Bioshock coll. is like £7 instead of £35) and that would pay for a Series S itself, and there are a bunch of games that to keep me entertained on top of the Switch.
@FixLagBrosLag I try to buy physical where possible, but we’re getting to a point where that stops being viable. It seems more and more games are download only, an empty box with a code, a disc with a licence and no game or at best a massive download on day one that renders it useless once the servers get switched off.
I do wonder if this is the pathway to a much more capable new Switch? You get Control cloud version if you have og switch but Switch Pro can play the localised version? Looking at Control and Hitman 3 I don’t see games that differ a huge amount from Witcher 3, but this gives devs an option to take an easier route I suppose.
@graysoncharles Bandwidth isn't the same as latency, the internet by its nature is contended so you get latency blips at times. It's not a viable way to buy games at a higher price than their local alternative. £35 is too much a subscription service I could get on board with.
@Fuksiarz I think the footage in the direct was on Switch. It certainly looked more Switch-like than the Stadia demo thats been used for review thus far.
I think it all looked pretty decent as far as Ubi games go.
I put 50:50 as my habits have changed during lockdown. I was mostly handled due to lockdown, but WFH had me move my Switch into the study providing a welcome distraction!
@roboshort true, there’s a minor improvement update which is fine. particularly if it is something where the devs may have come up with a more efficient way to process something. But releasing a game when it’s nigh on unplayable is unacceptable.
Obviously not on Switch but Konami have halved the price of PES this year as the next version is being built from the ground up so 21 is just a squad upgrade.
@PretendWorking Because they need clicks and this has got at time of writing 41 comments in 24 minutes!
@NinChocolate this really, thinking of mixing the biggest gaming franchise with the latest gaming fad isn’t a grand idea by any stretch you’d have to assume Nintendo had thought of it too. That being said it is nice to see these fan made projects
Basically wait and see, i'd like to think it is coming but for every retail "leak" theres another contradiction saying its not coming. Same with Mass Effect, article on here saying its not happening while almost simulatenously another on reddit saying it was. Until its announced it is vapourware.
But that being said its fun to guess! October Partner direct; Prince of Persia, Mass Effect and Tony Hawk 1+2
@johnvboy of course they do in terms of cash, but they don't make those profits by buying Bethesda and not making those games Xbox/Game Pass exclusives to bolster that service. The service itself is great but what they are missing is the games catalogue that Sony has, buying Bethesda et al is to bolster that aspect of their offering. Minecraft is the exception not the rule.
@johnvboy even with their never ending its of cash even MS cant afford to pay that much for Bethesda(or their parent) and not use that to boost the gamepass ecosystem. They will undoubtedly honour any existing commitments etc, but elder scrolls, Doom and Fallout being exclusives is a big pull for a lot of people towards MS ecosystem. I do expect them to still bring games to Switch as they have been doing with Ori and Cuphead.
@brunojenso Depends what you count the score as indicating. To me you should look it as how much does the reviewer recommend it. So a 10/10 doesn't indicate a perfect game per se(as you say thats impossible) but one that has the reviewers highest recommendation.
@AlecOfChaos true, it is a different tack than the other games but for £6 it is some of the best value on Switch. Doom 2016 will be next as soon as I find a cart at a decent price!
Currently playing through Doom 3, that has me pretty impressed so when I finally get around to 2016 and eternal it may actually blow my mind! Hopefully this will see a pre Xmas release, there’s a couple more partner directs to go!
@TimboSlice I think they have to grow the offering with a Pro model so it should be the same rails etc for the joy cons just improved build.
@zool you do have to factor in the fact it’s a merging of 2 product lines. It does irk slightly that the gameboy and DS lines are often forgotten when looking at where the Switch sits in terms of sales. That being said if you look at their previous gen the 3DS and Wii U they will sell more in less time than the 2 combined so I don’t think their standing is as bad as you think.
@nessisonett not sure you’d get both. I think it will either be BOTW2 and maybe a similar 35th pack as Mario. If no new game an old fave might get a remake ala Links Awakening.
I’m happy with the 1st party offerings to keep me occupied for the foreseeable future. Anything decent here is a bonus! Would love a Tony Hawk game though(although I think it’s more likely to come with Switch Pro).
@Kienda There's always a risk of flooding the market with too many custom Switch. This one makes sense for this part of the world, the same way as much as I liked it a Dragon Quest version isn't going to be a hit outside of Japan.
It has potential to be a fun little thing but it feels like the track kit needs to be more robust for the price, especially as it seems the gates are needed to create a track. And it needs a cheaper second car option(also opens the door to accessories too) to be viable beyond being a limited release for the 35th.
@LUIGITORNADO judging by those comments 2021 might be a stretch! In some ways between this and whatever does come out for Z35 next year I’d be happy to wait if it means it’s perfect
@BrintaPap except one of the reasons listed above or a multitude of other reasons. You may not like it but you have to assume there is a plan somewhere
@spirit_flame I feel the same, can’t say I’m desperate for either next gen console as of yet. Nothing particularly appealing about chasing the cutting-edge these days. The only thing I feel like I’m missing out is the new (old) Tony Hawks and there are rumours of a switch port of that.

@Lordplops Indeed it is and as this isn’t resetera lets agree to disagree! Happy Gaming
Re: Video: Here's Digital Foundry's Technical Analysis Of Crash Bandicoot 4 On Switch
@Lordplops yes DF are comparing them, but the subjective view that they are comparable in terms of performance is overstated.

@Lordplops I mean its great but lets not kid ourselves that the Switch is somehow comparable to the next gen consoles graphically.
