Following on from our previous story, Hot Wheels Unleashed has now been officially announced for Nintendo Switch.
As expected, this action-packed arcade-style racer will be arriving later this year on 30th September. It's being handled by the developer Milestone (an Italian-based racing game specialist that has worked on series such as Ride, MotoGP and Monster Energy Supercross) in partnership with Mattel.
Hot Wheels Unleashed will allow players to build and race a collection of cars across a wide variety of environments, and even create tracks in an editor mode. There'll also be split-screen and online multiplayer. Here's a bit extra from the official PR:
"Hot Wheels Unleashed offers players the opportunity to drive the cars as if they were playing with the die-cast toys. The gameplay includes adrenaline-filled races, an extended choice of Hot Wheels vehicles with different attributes and rarity levels that players can customize with different skins, and jaw-dropping tracks set in everyday-life locations with special track pieces and interactive items. The game also features a revolutionary Track Editor enabling players to customize tracks in any game environment and share them with the game’s community."
Pre-orders are available now. All up, there are four different versions. You can go with a standard or physical copy of the game, the Challenge Accepted Edition (game, Bone Shaker Diecast with exclusive livery, exclusive steelbook, folded poster, Hot Wheels Pass Vol. 1), Collector's Edition (game, Hot Wheels Pass Vol. 1) or the Ultimate Stunt Edition (game, Pass Vol. 1 and 2).
Check out the trailer above and tell us if you would be interested in playing a Hot Wheels game on the Nintendo Switch.

I'll go so fast that I can never stop...
Would like to see actual gameplay footage.
Even store pages for the game just show the cars available instead of screenshots of gameplay.
Without gameplay I'm not convinced it's anything other than shovelware
I hate trailers that don’t have actual gameplay footage. Might as well just make a press announcement and call it a day. That did nothing for me.
My son will love this for sure.
I like where the car fell like a toy. Gives a vibe of the real world parts of the LEGO movie. Or Ant Man scenes that look intense zoomed in and funny when zoomed out.
Can we have this, but then with F.Zero vehicles, tracks, story, speed and characters please?
I’d love a new f-zero every time I see a new racer....
Interested in this game too though! Maybe something to buy for and play with my nephew.
Ok, preordering now! If it doesn't look like that Pixar movie animation, I'm suing for 1 Billllll-ion dollars.
As others have said, what's the point of showing anything when the computer animated trailer is so far removed from the actual gameplay that not even a PS5 could push those graphics.
That's bascially, exactly what's in Forza Horizon 3's Hot Wheels expansion, which is a good thing, because it was awesome. Very smart move. This looks promising.
I really want to see some gameplay footage.
edit: it's $50 USD for preorder
When it has blue anti-gravity wheels for upside down, hmmm where have I seen this before
@FroZtedFlakerZz Yes, where?🤔🤔🤔 I guess we'll never know😲
I played a hot wheels game before, was it on Wii or 3ds? Either way, the visuals were grainy, and the game play was not very fun.
That said, this could be good, as we all wait for actual footage . . .
I have played one Hot Wheels game and it was just ok (and also scared me for life) so it's very unlikely I'll even buy this.
I know that all the footage shown in the video was captured on a switch...I will keep my eye on it.
Looks neat, will keep and eye on this one and it's respective review 🙂

I clicked on a 5❤ and it turned to an 8❤. Guys, I think I'm the chosen one.
With this game, I think I'll feel like a kid again when I held toy cars making vroom vroom noises and pushing them across the floor! I hope the trailer is close to the gameplay though!
I want this to be great for my kid. But I’m not sold just yet. All points raised by the others are valid (great marketing video, need real game footage, etc).
I need to be frugal, and I have a feeling that this might go on sale sooner than later...and I might pick it up then if it’s any good. It will take something really special for me to buy this at full price.
@EriXz Hmmm. Must be a new indie title. I'll go search eshop for "mario" under the racing genre, but I don't think I'm gonna find anything 😉
Forgive me, I'm having WAY too much fun pretending to not know what Mario Kart is. Love the vertically spelled MARIOKART reply, by the way - funny
I thought this one gonna be Hot Wheels Acceleracers.
The last hot wheels game that came to Consoles that isn't Forza or a mobile game was Hot Wheels world's best driver. I bought Hot Wheels Worlds best driver on Steam via Greenmangaming. I hope the controls and handling is better in this one. All I hope is that we get a max steel game based on the Disney Reboot and 2016 film. Also I'm getting the Challenge accepted edition. Huge Mattel Fan. Also It's about time mattel catched up to Hasbro. Also Milestone has a good track record so I'm holding out hope. Like Transformers and AVP. Hot Wheels is the only mattel franchise where most of it's games are good. Activisions Transformers games are mostly good and Transformers Battlegrounds is also good and AVP has some of the best FPS games ever. Now If only we had a Max Steel game similar to Batman Arkham, Prototype and Insomniac's Spider-Man games then it would already be an improvement over the treyarch game.
@dugan you mean Track attack? Yeah, it truly was lame since you couldn't just pick your favorite car and expect to win. You had to win every race to unlock F1 racer and beat the final opponent with that car. Also, game was very restrictive with its track building. It was all too safe and on rails.
Looks a lot like Micro Machines, which is one of my favorite racing series. So I'm interested.
Kinda excited, I love Hot Wheels and any form of track editor. I see they are using Unreal so I hope graphics is not a blurry downscaled mess with terrible antialiasing like most Unreal games on Switch. In particular I hope they manage to convey the actual "small die-cast and plastic toy model" feeling, since most older HW games don't really convey that well.
Would have picked up micro machines at a flash but hot wheels nar.
This is going to be cgi isn’t it.
clicks trailer
Yep. Instant concern lol.
@Tandy255 yeah that was the biggest sell for me. If they can do this right it could be great fun.
Honestly who would buy DLC for a Hot Wheels game???
Milestone makes solid racing games, but these kinds of things rarely get a proper budget and development time. Will set my interest level at "mild" until we see more.
@redpanda0310 I don't know about buying DLC for a Hot Wheels game, but I definitely once bought a game for it's Hot wheels DLC
@judaspete Lol
That is a lovely ad - but I will need to see some reviews for it. I am sure my 7yr old would love it regardless. But since I hold the wallet, I need something not completely shovelware.
Hope it's not bad as the Wii U Hot Wheels game and is closer or to the Wii one.
Trailer with no gameplay... so you're telling me this is gonna be crap
