Re: Feature: The 10 Best SNES RPGs

dronesplitter

Chrono Trigger and EarthBound are what I consider the best of the best, personally, so I'm pretty happy with the list for just those; they are the essential two, but a list is going to be subjective and I think they were going for something pretty broad but still respecting the consensus here.

Re: Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury Leaked Online A Week Before Launch

Not saying that piracy isn't able to impact the industry and that Nintendo should not care, but I'd wager the amount of hacked Switches is probably not as bad as 3DS hacked systems were. Like someone else already commented, it doesn't take much for someone to leak this close to a release date. Not a case of someone on the inside doing it or a dev, just old fashioned breaking the street date, and not much you can do about that. If Nintendo does get more strict on us, they're wasting focus that should be on working on making stuff like Breath of the Wild 2 amazing, as well as potentially forcing lots of updates on us to combat piracy, not adding a web browser to the Switch, etc. Admittedly that last one is just a nice to have thing, but they have a hit console and the masses like a good browser thrown in there, on a tablet-like device, so...just saying.

Re: Select Arcade Archives Games Are Currently On Sale On The Switch eShop

dronesplitter

I recently picked up that Night Slashers arcade game (different company, tho) and was pretty thrilled to pick it up, as I hadn't ever played it before, and it was nice to discover a retro game like that for the first time. Still, I don't generally splurge on retro games since it adds up fast. Plus, we all know that generally speaking these are going to all make the rounds again on future platforms anyway, and we have no idea if Switch purchases will carry over in the future to a new Nintendo system (unless that was confirmed at some point and I missed it).

Re: Review: Elliot Quest (Switch eShop)

This is on sale for 9 cents right now, an amazing chance to get this game if you weren't sure if you'd like it. Also, if you have any issues with finding your way, I recommend the FAQ/Walkthrough for it on gamefaqs by TendaShy.

Re: Review: 80's Overdrive (3DS eShop)

I played this through, and while I do like it and recommend it, my main gripe is that this game is easy and never really satisfies you with much depth. Adding in a police element might have seemed like a wonderful idea in theory, but the execution is lackluster for reasons the review points out as well as others. I bought the police radar on one car, by the way, and never understood how such a warning benefits the player. Still, the cops here just serve as a minor nuisance when you're trying to take turns and avoid traffic - a buzzing fly that likes to taunt you while you work.

The racing in this game can be a little mind numbingly basic. Sure, it scratches the retro racer itch for a few hours, but then you've had your fun and actually finishing 1st in every race just feels like a chore you're better off neglecting. There is a cool final level as a reward, though, so that was nice. The last bone thrown to you is the final (not bonus) level rewards you 100k for finishing 1st which is more than enough to buy and upgrade just about everything (if you want to be efficient, don't upgrade parts much, just save and buy a better car until you get to the 100k level).

Re: Soapbox: Playing Super Mario Sunshine Today Painfully Illustrates Nintendo's 3D Evolution

"Life’s too short for bad games."

I seriously never thought I'd see a Nintendo fan site say this about one of the best 3D Mario titles. Kind of surreal to read that, but that's your opinion and you're entitled to it. I just vehemently disagree with classifying Mario Sunshine as a bad game.

Also, I find this article to be ill conceived; you shouldn't build up newer titles by revisiting old games and knocking them down. Mario has evolved but if you honestly think Sunshine is that bad, I question your credentials to ever review a 3D Mario title.

Re: Nintendo Unveils Gorgeous Samus Edition New Nintendo 3DS XL

dronesplitter

I don't get how they don't include a digital copy of the game...they're already exploiting the collectors by releasing this instead of making the XL system face plate compatible so that you could just get this edition as plates included with the game. Well, that's my feeling about it, but I'm not much of a collector these days, admittedly.

Re: Creator Of Cancelled Metroid Fan Game AM2R Is Looking Forward To Samus Returns

dronesplitter

@ShadJV I think you're wrong, because anyone not interested in supporting an official game (in the style that fans have been clamoring on about) wasn't really going to be a purchase to count on at all. If the new game isn't worth buying, they weren't a likely sale as it is. Your logic that it isn't necessarily different enough to spend $40 on can be applied to gamers looking at it that didn't play AM2R as well.

Re: Creator Of Cancelled Metroid Fan Game AM2R Is Looking Forward To Samus Returns

dronesplitter

AM2R might help sales of Nintendo's remake on 3DS, just so you guys at least consider that outcome. It really looks like Nintendo's take on the remake will be rather different (the counter ability and the new aeions or whatever) so it's not like AM2R steps on its toes. On the contrary, you now have people that just played a great fan remake who will be hyped to experience this seemingly awesome new take as well.

Re: Nintendo Switch Standalone Dock Goes Up for Pre-Order on Amazon UK

dronesplitter

Terrible price, true, but it's also true that an extra dock is such a minor thing to desire (the "luxury" view of this purchase). Perhaps Nintendo is just thinking, "keep the price really crazy, most will pass at this price, but we aren't in the dock making business anyway nor would we want the headache of keeping up with demand for a nonessential item like that, we got SNES minis to make and apparently not enough production lines these days to keep more than the scalpers supplied."

Re: Poll: What Do You Think of the New Nintendo 2DS XL?

dronesplitter

Nintendo just doesn't want to lower the price on the models they have. They quietly let that stock diminish to very little and then put out a new model to make a lot more than discounting the old model, at least that's my take. If the consumer is smart they'll just laugh and buy something else to play games on, like an original 2DS at half that price if those are at least still found refurbished or used, whatever.

Re: New Nintendo 2DS XL Announced, Releases 28th July

dronesplitter

All part of Nintendo's plan to sell you a 3DS 10,000 times before you die. Can't wait for the next version with a second circle pad instead of a nub and it now plays Wii games through a special eshop, because why not...

This one is odd, like two smartphones sandwiched together. Kind of bulky looking like that. I wonder if the hackers will be all over it (like I need to ask). Just another firmware for them to investigate.
