Nintendo really dropped the ball when it came to effectively communicating the core appeal of the Wii U, and the result was consumer apathy. Thankfully the company hasn't repeated this mistake with the Switch, which has received more effective promotion and bumper sales.
However, while Nintendo's marketing efforts have vastly improved this time around, this short clip by YouTube channel Юзя is perhaps the best advertisement for the console yet seen.
Running at just under three minutes, "Banana Switch" takes a first-person perspective on using the system, with the action beginning in an apartment but soon moving to more outlandish locations; towards the end, the player is shown sky-diving while his character in Zelda: Breath of the Wild does the same.
As well as being a remarkable feat of filmmaking, the footage perfectly illustrates the key appeal of the console: you really can play anywhere, with anyone.

very well done, I wish you could see that red and white boot up logo more than once
Way too cool - great gorilla impression
Wth did I just watch? Skydiving with a Switch? Ha... I mean I like the different ways and areas they showed to play and it's a nice flow, but that tune.... not feeling it. :v
WTH did I just watch?
Ohohoh way too good!
Banana ?
@Lalivero Not feeling Bramble Blast? Even if it is a douche EDM remix, there is no denying that tune as just Phenomenal.
Epic
Woah
Great!
That was really cool. Great editing. There you go Nintendo. Make em part of your viral social marketing division. The talent and the passion are both clearly there.
I felt it was kind of cringe worthy but good editing and good for them trying to skydive with a Switch. That scene plus the guy not washing his hands after using the toilet at the start gave me so much anxiety though.
What a cool fan-trailer
As a filmmaker, I loved that commmercial. Now I want Nintendo to put the Donkey King Country series as a trilogy pack onto the switch...
@djtwenty9 Hey, I like that version. It's from a remixed Smooth McGroove album. So, I guess it's a remix of a remix? And if you don't know about Smooth McGroove, then that's unfortunate.
Soooo, I have no idea wtf is going on in this video, but skydiving is cool, and Switch is cool. So I guess good job.
That was off the hook!
@djtwenty9 I'm one of the douches who loves this EDM remix. ;D
Really cool!
Sorta wondering why people didn't do this sort of thing with the 3DS. xDDDD
That's Kraft Punk!
Is that a Smooth McGroove mix in between the actual soundtrack clips?
"a remarkable feat of filmmaking"
Yes.... move over, Cecil B. DeMille.
Why do people keep saying the marketing has improved this time around? It's exactly the same as the Wii U marketing.... non existent.
Awesome! Anyone else bugged by the players being on the wrong side for 1 2 Switch? Haha
@Alshain01 I don't know about you, but where I live, there are buses with Switch advertisements everywhere
@NovaCam yes, it is
Is it so cool to play a pal SNES hooked up to a projector?
The skydiving part was the only segment I cared about. Still, nice DK throwbacks!
I only saw the skydiving for a brief second...I have a low attention span....that was cool....I did notice they put 1-2 Switch in their commercial...that's a piece of garbage that everyone should forget about.
@Zoya We had a Superbowl commercial in the US. That was the entirety of Nintendo advertising here.
@Alshain01 I mean, I live in the US...
@Zoya Ok, well all we have had is that one commercial.
It was weird but better than Nintendo's advertising people can do.
That still of the sky dive with botw on the switch is a beautiful picture.
Hands down coolest video ever!!!
@Alshain01 No we actually didn't. If you watched any tv you would have noticed the hundreds of commercials for the switch. I see ads for the switch all the time on tv.
@Alshain01 Also I live in the US as well. It has vastly better advertisement than the Wii U. Which basically had none.
What the hell was that? Also, fake screen during sky dive was fake.
Cool. Why they don't give the money to professionals like these guys instead of cheap marketing heads?
Oh, they are russians, I see... it must be some trumpy philosophy: everything must be done in-house.
I have to say that my first book got its cover from an italian artist, the other two from an ukrainan one. Well I'm more satisfied with the latter artist. Good is good, whatever the nationality.
Instantly says about the Switch what Nintendo have repeatedly failed at with every advert they've ever commissioned
@ROBLOGNICK all the game footage obviously was
When it was docked at the end, where was the hdmi cable?
Absurd, but good.
@LiberatedAnimal Definitely great for a CV, not everyone can work for Nintendo but treasure the experience.
Haha how odd! But crazy awesome at the same time!
I really enjoyed that. Better than most official ads anyway.
@ANeonChicken I watch TV all the time, I've seen none. The advertisement for the Switch has been virtually non existent.
How long do you think until he is forced to remove the video?
Well done!
@Alshain01 well that's a blatant lie and you know it. Plenty of ads, and not just on TV either.
@gortsi That's a blatant lie and you know it. There has been nothing.
@Alshain01 So my eyes deceived me? Oh my, to the optician it is then! Might wanna get some salt for your effort though
"I have no interest in the Switch actually. It's clear to me now that Nintendo is incapable of making a good system anymore and I'd rather seem them start putting their amazing titles on other platforms, like PC. So I'm hoping the Switch does fail at this point.
That said, I have a very logical and analytical mind, so I can see things objectively despite my distastes for them."
"MK8D is a sequel not a port. I still don't think it will be significant at selling Switch systems."
Bahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahaha
That was amazing in every way.
Glorious!
...but why do I want to play Switch? This "commercial" felt like "things to do when you're not playing Switch." Obviously, this needs more Nintendo Karen.
@gortsi I could say the same thing. Are you saying I'm blind? Cause you kinda jumped over that already and went straight to liar like a complete ass.
I don't much care for people telling me I'm lying when I'm not. I've seen nothing but a super bowl commercial and I watch and least an hour a night (on major US networks). I've seen no outdoor advertising either, but that isn't surprising as I do live in a small city (110k pop.).
@Alshain01 well you implied that just because YOU haven't seen something, the rest of us haven't, so it was your suggestion, and like others have said in this thread, it's wrong. Besides TV, I've seen advertising on bus stops, buses, the London underground, and YouTube. I don't gain anything by "making up" any of this, but saying their advertising is on Wii U levels is plain wrong.
@gortsi I actually saw advertising for the Wii U (though not a lot)... so it's actually worse than Wii U levels for the moment.
@Alshain01 We've explained it a thousand times but you still don't get it. No, it isn't. Your city is not the world.
@gortsi Well then how would you know? Have you been everywhere in the world to check? No you haven't so you are only speaking from your perspective, and I am only speaking from mine. Like I said, worse advertising on the switch than even the Wii U.
I know what I've seen in 2 capitals of the biggest gaming markets in the world, not a city of 110k. It's not a perspective we're sharing, it's a fact. And the fact it, your perspective is wrong and a childish attempt to downplay the Switch. Try harder.
@LiberatedAnimal
man, this video is already part of viral marketing and was made with the support of Nintendo of Russia. Yeah, russians bloggers are also cool.
https://youtu.be/kTXfXJ3GpHI
Here is another viral cool video from another Russian blogger. But it is only in Russian and is full of references to the Russian culture. It's very fun and very funny. Just trust me.
What if he'd dropped it?
@Alshain01 There has been ads. I have seen them with my own eyes and so have many people. It might be time to get out of that rock that you have been living under. It has been advertise the hell out unlike the Wii U. If you want to dispute facts be my guest but I'm done talking to you.
@TossedLlama if you mean like Kraft Macaroni, I highly endorse your comment. We eat a lot of Kraft Cheesey Pasta here in Glasgow
What an awful clip. Who goes skydiving with such an expensive piece of tech? It just shows that they have no respect for the hardware whatsoever. I could never do that. What if would've fallen out of his hands during the fall? Would they still smile into the camera then?
