Oh no, according to certain parts of the internet, the street date for Nintendo's upcoming Switch release Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury has been broken one week out from the game's official release. On top of that, it's also been leaked online!
While it is not entirely clear at this point how it all started, a thread over on ResetEra reveals the game is now being "streamed" and soundtracks from the Switch game are also being "uploaded" in response to just "one" slip up.
"People are streaming it and soundtracks are being uploaded, heads up."
We had a look over on Twitch, and sure enough - certain individuals are already streaming the Bowser's Fury add-on. The same thread on ResetEra confirms "retail copies were [then] dumped" which explains why streams are already popping up online.
We can't imagine Nintendo will be too happy about this, considering how secretive it has been about the new add-on.
Well-known Nintendo dataminer OatmealDome has shared some additional information about the development side of the game, based on this latest leak:
So, long story short - this Switch game is out in the wild. If you don't want any Bowser's Fury spoilers, it's probably best to stay away from streaming, video and social media websites for the next week.

completely stupid. Nintendo should take down these videos
@anoyonmus
That'd be like playing wack a mole. Knock one down, another two pop up.
Better to find where the source of the leak is and send in the Plumbers....With baseball bats.
On another note, how in the world does this KEEP happening at Nintendo? What kind of security do they have that lately it seems like every major first party Nintendo game winds up online in full before the release date? This seems like a severe problem that Nintendo needs to fix asap.
This happenes now everytime a high profiled game is set to release. It's becoming so common now it's hardly news. I wonder if the companies plan it at times it happens so often now.
Quite a shame. I am sure this will spoil Bowser's Fury for some unfortunate souls, though I guess the easiest thing to do is not watch any videos on the game before you play it yourself.
@Highlar It's not just Nintendo. I don't know if you're familiar with The Last of Us 2, but that got leaked early. If I'm not mistaken, Cyberpunk did too... It's just the world that we live in and it can happen in a number of different ways that have little to do with internal security (i.e. a small retailer may actually sell the product before the actual release.).
It definitely sucks though... You pretty much have to go off the grid for a spoiler free experience nowadays.
@Tasuki I doubt it'll spoil it for anyone. No one is forced to watch the videos.
@Broforce Right that too. It's not like the video will start playing the moment you turn on your device. You would have to actually search it out so those people who do have no room to complain.
My thoughts on this are that if you have a pre-order, I couldn't care less about whether or not you download it. If you don't have a pre-order, its piracy, just like any other game, if you make videos about it with spoiler free thumbnails and titles, its still kind of meh, but I can live with them existing, but if you do put spoilers in the title or thumbnail, that's when it goes too far. If people want to watch a video about the leak, let them, but if they don't, don't ruin their experience, otherwise (word not allowed on this site) you.
@Tasuki The Youtube recommended section still exists, and it isn't kind to those avoiding spoilers.
@Highlar
You must be living in a bubble because high profile games on the verge of release have leaked for a while now.
It's not regulated to Nintendo.
You’ve got to wonder how this keeps happening with every single major release. Security must be a forethought and it clearly isn’t here.
@anoyonmus no u
Y'all gotta remember, this isn't likely an inside Nintendo issue. It's stores, who need to have the stock in place early, letting copies sell the moment they come in instead of waiting for the actual street date. I remember getting a copy of Hotel Dusk early from WalMart back in the day. Went to a friend at GameStop and was like "look at what WalMart just did" and we reported them to Nintendo for breaking the street date. Some store's workers just don't care or don't know enough to care. Stock comes in, stock goes up for sale. That's probably why some places started putting blocks in the systems to not let games be sold until the release date.
I’ll keep from watching it. For some reason Nintendo life have always been avid supporters of piracy but I’m against it. I feel if you really love Nintendo & what they do, you’d want to support them.
The last time this happened was slight more than only 2 months ago with Age of Calamity, and let me tell you, Nintendo was either drunk or dumb.
Out of respect for the "content creators" I won't mention their names, but I'm sure everyone knows who I'm talking about. Spoilery thumbnails and entire gameplay videos stemming from LEAKED gameplay, not a reviewer copy. Even if it was a review copy, it'd be breaking the NDA.
But more importantly, Nintendo copyright struck YouTubers who LEGALLY streamed the game in Australia, NOT the people who leaked early gameplay footage. Why target people who did things legally by region and not target those who leak gameplay footage illegally, almost an entire week early?
This is an example of how Nintendo's security has truly failed its fans. I don't have much respect for leakers who easily get away with doing something illegal, but I hate when Nintendo decides to target the wrong people.
If they make the same mistakes again with 3D World, I honestly don't know what to think of Nintendo anymore. They'll keep making good games, but they'll also keep ruining the hype by not doing things properly.
I bet Doug Bowser will be furious about this
@Highlar It's more that reviewers get early copies, or stores break street dates. Some reviewers who get early copies end up dumping them illegally, despite knowing full and well that if they get caught, they'd end up ruining their chances to review games.
This will incur Doug Bowser's.....Fury
Is that not the usual 3D Mario team that have made this?
I assumed it was using the same aesthetic‘s and graphics from 3D World as Mario has that same plastic shimmer look like the characters did from 3D World, you notice it more in the rain.
I’m just happy I’ll actually pay real money and enjoy the game together with you guys come release date!
Pirates rarely appreciate content. They get it for free and get no value and enjoyment in return. That’s how the law of energy works!
Someone above pointed out that the leaks suck, since we have to go off the grid to avoid spoilers for a while, and I agree. But I think it must suck even more to be a pirate!
So we’re fine, bros! We’re fine 👌
I have the game on my Switch downloaded as i pre-odered it yesterday, i'm guessing they can just take the SD card and unlock the game on PC maybe?
Oh well I can wait. Won’t give leakers ad revenue.
@horizoniki
"Pirates rarely appreciate content. They get it for free and get no value and enjoyment in return. That’s how the law of energy works!"
That is not even remotely true.
@horizoniki Don’t listen to the deniers - what you’re saying has truth to it. I’ve had 1000s of emulated old games in the past & ended up never wanting to play them. But now I have them all on official cartridges/discs, they all have great individual value. Same with modern pirated stuff - for some reason, pirated games lose some intrinsic quality. Plus how can you profess to love Nintendo and at the same time steal from them? I feel that homebrew is fine, but the people who produce the software should actively block users from using pirated games.
Can anyone explain to me the purpose of playing a leaked copy? All of the user's game saves in SX OS doesn't carry over if you get a legit copy later on because of the emunand.
Tell me if Daisy’s in it.
@Broforce You're wrong. I worked a public school gig for a few years. Special needs kids. You know who loves video games? Special needs kids. Know how you get them to shut up and work? Ipad time. Teachers made that happen. Out ranked my. Special Ed kids do nothing but youtube. So, I get stuck in a room with a kid watching Luigis Mansion 3 before I even beat the game, the week I bought it, the week it came out. These leakers just want clicks, and they'll steal from anyone to get what they want. They're thieves, you know.
@IpwnedU123 Oh lawdy we got a brave one
@shaneoh
It's not really that uncommon actually.
I had plenty of friends (both online and real Life) who used to be pirates and didn't buy anything.
They usually ended up playing a bunch of games all at once, not beat a single one, and then abbandon them all because they always had another game ready that they wanted to try.
Having always everything available immediately and without paying makes it feel like it has less values.
@Highlar All it takes is for one person in the supply chain with a hacked switch to get a hold of the physical game to rip and leak it. The major reason is simply because the Switch is so easily hacked compared to any other console. It's also handheld so would be easy for someone to do it at work.
I have no idea about hacking Xbox or Playstation, but IF they can be hacked, they would have to steal the game, take it home and rip it, all just for an extremely small percent of people to be able to play it.
@GoldenSunRM That's right
@nessisonett The most entertaining were @Cosats and @NintendoPok, but I am guessing that they are banned because they have not posted for a few months.
Suck it, Nintendo 👎
It's a bit of consumer payback for joycon problems, unnecessarily-heavy handed music copyright strikes, and tournament bans. Nintendo's optics have generally been poor since Bowser and ''Iwata's replacement' took over. A bit of tit-for-tat is due to come their way.
80% of this product is something most of us experienced on the Wii U six years ago, so I doubt leaks are going to have too much influence on the sales.
@Prizm To be fair, Nintendo had PLENTY of problems even with Iwata and Reggie. Do you not know about their YouTube policies from 2013 or their failure of a Content Creator Program established in 2015? IMO Nintendo has been anti-consumer since the company established its online presence.
@horizonisland Try much longer than that. This is the same company that went up against Blockbuster to stop people from renting video games without buying them. It's the same company that tried to take Galoob to court for the Game Genie.
Take off the rose-tinted glasses, and you'll find that Nintendo has always, without exception, been hideously "anti-consumer".
I think I just leaked 😬
@Narrator1 Damn I had no idea about either of those...
Though I am absolutely NOT defending Nintendo’s actions, I think it’s virtually impossible to find a corporation that isn’t vehemently anti-consumer in any sector of our economy, especially video games.
I love this, it's like a modern day Robin Hood- stealing from the rich (mega-corporations) and giving to the people.
Good job I'm not I interested in anything these sadsacks will put out on YouNoob.
It will sell MILLIONS regardless 🙂
@GoldenSunRM
That is a lack of focus rather than lack of appreciation. I have literally over a thousand games in my steam library, to say nothing of the games I have for consoles and handhelds. But I can stick with the games I'm playing rather than flit between them all because I can't decide what to play.
@nessisonett,
It's pretty obvious, as it's logistically impossible to get any major release out to all retailers in time for the specific release date, if you do not get it to some of them up to a week early, then some sell or ship early, even worse in the current climate as there will be far more online sales due to the pandemic.
@Iggy-Koopa ,
Course it will, most of these videos have pretty low figures compared to other content on YouTube.
@PBandSmelly The same people are playing pirated copies of games, then claiming that they had them on order anyway so it's okay. Or they never had them on order, and it's still okay because Nintendo/Sony/MS et al are biiiiig, baaaaad companies who forcibly take your hard earned cash for full-price retail games that they would rather steal.
Scrubs.
@horizoniki that’s a great comment, never thought of it like that!
@stuntz0rZ the purpose of playing a leaked copy is the ability to play it sooner, and for free...it's not hard to figure that out really...
Great job to the geniuses at NL for spreading the message, elevating the news so that more can look for ways to download it smh
Bowser needs to employ more goombas
As long as I personally stay away from spoilers, I literally don’t care in the slightest that this happens. Do crimes on Nintendo all day
Nice bit of free advertising
Man, what is it with Nintendo and street dates? This would be fine if this was an era without the internet, but now spoiling games is all too easy. And I'm not pretending like this only happens to Nintendo, but it seems to happen with just about every major title they put out.
Finally some information about a ‘new’ Nintendo game.... finally and still people think this is bad?
I wonder if we can play as Luigi or the other characters instead of mario
These leaks need to be stop. I'm not against them but, it's an unfair act.
So that's why I kept seeing videos playthroughs of Bowser's Fury pop up on youtube.
See guys! It's longer than 30 minutes-1 hour!
@BloodyMurder I'm pretty sure this happens with a ton of games it's just nintendo is a piracy stickler so it feels like a kick to the nuts for them other companies aren't as bothered by it
thanks for the heads up, NL!
bootin'up the HBGshop as we speak!
@Highlar I think the "reviewer" are the ones doing the leaking... Reviewers already have the game and are under NDA by Nintendo. All the past "leaks" you hear about are from 3rd party companies that worked with nintendo in the past....
If you don't want to know anything about a game before you play it, once you know the release date, don't click on anything online with it's name in the title. People always complain about seeing spoilers in comments about the game. You can't be that dumb if you have been a gamer in the last 2 generations. Stop complaining just for it's own sake.
@Highlar the street date was broken by retailers and people who purchased the game are streaming it. You act as though Nintendo HQ was hacked and the game source leaked online...
@Tasuki I wanna yes because it is becoming to frequent. This to me is another marketing tactic. But haven’t said that don’t see how is this going increase sales.
Also, I would assume Nintendo has confidentiality agreements in place to prevent these events...
@nessisonett I'd say the main issue is something like this only has to happen once per game release. Think about how many hundreds of thousands of copies get sent out to retailers, or how many reviewers get an early release copy. It only takes ONE person among those numbers to decide to put it online.
NDA's exist for the reviewers, but it's not like a publisher can realistically track down the source if someone leaks it early. I'm sure retailers have some systems in place to prevent early sales, but maybe the manager of the store is a fan themselves and only need to use their manager password to bypass the system block. The only real way to prevent this is to guarantee that nobody in the public could possibly have access to it in advance, and even then, there's always the risk that someone at Nintendo leaks it.
@WallyWest no. They would require a lot more work than you think. No one has cracked pre-loads yet, and it may never happen.
"Someone" got a cart early, dumped it, and let it loose online.
@SwitchVogel
Nintendo can track which copy gets leaked to a point, as each cart has it's own individual and unique identifiers. That said, all the good dump tools wipe this info, so anyone with a brain dumping carts is blanking that info.
That said, if Nintendo was smart, they would be changing where that header info is per title release. It would make the tool devs have to adapt. But Nintendo has been rather clueless for the past... 15/20 years against pirates, I wouldn't expect them to wise up anytime soon lol
Is Nintendo not going to ban streamers for a month for streaming the game early? They did that for Age of Calamity so it makes sense to me to continue that approach, same for content uploaded to YouTube, it should be automatically blocked by content ID for a month after official release as punishment.
@Highlar all you really need is an early copy and an hacked switch.
Nothing Nintendo can really address honestly.
Oh no, a seven-year-old game leaked. Whatever will we do...?
Okay, I know Bowser's Fury is new, but still, this is not like Age of Calamity leaking.
I guess there’s no relation to the fact that the pre-order download just appeared on my home menu. I just noticed it popped up last night. It’s saying the game is about 2.8 GB in data mgmt. There aren’t any exploits that trick a system into playing it, are there? I’m patient enough to wait, but I’ve wondered how secure the practice of pre loading is against hacking.
If people are stupid enough to watch the videos. When they have the game on the way next week. More fool them, I will experience it for myself thanks.
@Highlar
As bigger a Company as easier it is to have a Black Sheep in there.
Also, as bigger a Company, as easier to walk out with Data.
You can not ristrict everything to every Part of the Company.
The Data has to lay there for use to the distinct Sections.
@Broforce Yes your right. Watch it if you want it spoiled for you, if you don't want it spoiled don't watch it. Simple really.
@Prizm Lol! Nintendo are richer now than they’ve ever been, by a significant margin. I don’t think a handful of people stealing their stuff is having the impact you’re hoping for.
Not saying that piracy isn't able to impact the industry and that Nintendo should not care, but I'd wager the amount of hacked Switches is probably not as bad as 3DS hacked systems were. Like someone else already commented, it doesn't take much for someone to leak this close to a release date. Not a case of someone on the inside doing it or a dev, just old fashioned breaking the street date, and not much you can do about that. If Nintendo does get more strict on us, they're wasting focus that should be on working on making stuff like Breath of the Wild 2 amazing, as well as potentially forcing lots of updates on us to combat piracy, not adding a web browser to the Switch, etc. Admittedly that last one is just a nice to have thing, but they have a hit console and the masses like a good browser thrown in there, on a tablet-like device, so...just saying.
@Highlar You ask, "On another note, how in the world does this KEEP happening at Nintendo?" I'll answer it starting like former MLB player Steve Garvey: I think reputation. I think quality of games made. I think brand name. Let's face it, hackers (or non hackers who decide to leak by convincing retailers to break street date) are always more interested in all of Nintendo's first party franchises than all of Microsoft's or Sony's in the Internet age. They know leaking a Nintendo 1st party game will provide themselves more exposure for and to their behavior than a Microsoft or Sony 1st party game. That and for breaking street date situations you got a small group of retailers worldwide who are very easy to convince to do it. Out!
@ iulis84 in my opnion this is not only reason, living in a poor country, i think the real problem is Nintendo price. If you take a look you will see that "Doom Eternal" for Playstation 5 here on Brazil its costs about R $ 89 and the full amount was R$ 399. I have a lot of friends from UK, France, USA that are playing Nintendo games pirates on Nintendo Switch. Also, example if you will, look on this link and you see that on US there are some States very very poor
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmmEXB7Nq0E&t=8s&ab_channel=CharlieBo313
@DonSerrot how did you report them to nintendo?
@Uncensored I don't know if they still do this, but back then Nintendo had representatives who would go to game stores to give the staff advance previews for new games. Hyping up a game is much easier when you've had hands on time with it. I think that's who we contacted, but the truth is my friend just asked if he could copy my receipt to send to Nintendo and I didn't ask questions.
@shaneoh Yeah, if pirates didn't enjoy or find value in what they're playing they'd all just be playing the thousands of obscure NES games.
But they always go after the biggest, most popular games and series.
@Dr_Lugae
People buying games go after the biggest and most popular games and series (which is why they are the biggest and most popular). If they always went after the biggest and most popular then ROM sets wouldn't be a thing and there would be no argument for preservation.
Nobody wants to see that!
Upcoming games will be delayed due to leaks!
I already have over 60 Cat Shines! I bet that I can beat the game before it releases...
Those of us with hacked Switches are used to playing games a week ahead. If its in the hands of reviewers its in the hands of the community. 😜
@Highlar It's nothing they can do invidia used an easily hackable chip and so if one copy gets out because retail stores get it early the it gets leaked
@DStanton “hey guys” says kindling
@DStanton this buggy DS needs to go into the incinerator.
