*Starts eyeing the old Labo VR set and hoping some cardboard 'modding' will work.
@BrianJL Googling it, I get a bunch of casino/slots rubbish coming up alongside pages detailing the unreleased game. My personal theory would be that any potential legal entanglements with random, funds-rich companies wouldn't be worth the aggro for Nintendo. Easier to just shorten the name and sidestep entirely.
@MTMike87 I can't find a way to make multiplayer work, and there's no shared save data whatsoever. It's completely separate from NSO beyond (I'd assume) using the same ROM.
Hands are weird things and I have to say that my thumb bends like that, too. Probably down to years of picking up my kids from the floor, plus decades of analogue stick abuse.
@Pillowpants Space is at a premium in the Joys/Cons at the end, so abbreviations make sense there.
You might find a cheeky 'FTW' in a personal aside, or an 'ASAP' (or a pun in a tagline), but generally we don't use abbreviations in body text beyond common tech terms (LCD, fps) or Latin.
I don't think having to look something up is a problem, either. I learned hundreds of words from searching for them back when it wasn't as simple as a long-press or punching it into google.
@Ironcore They should all be on the database and have game pages where you can rate them (see the note in the post re. why they don’t show up in the quicklist above).
@chiptoon You should be able to transfer the Virtual Game Card to a Switch 1. (Although save data between the two versions probably won't be compatible, depending on the game.)
@HammerGalladeBro No worries. It's the same with all 'Nintendo Switch 2 Edition' carts - they should all load up the Switch 1 version if you put them in a Switch 1.
My word, people. People! DF does brilliant, granular work, has done for years, highlighting issues, praising greatness, offering in-depth comparisons between all versions of a game. That's why we've covered their stuff throughout the Switch gen, as it's been particularly fascinating given all the ports we seen.
If you're not interested in that side of things, fine, but (as several people above have emphasised) their work isn't an attack against people enjoying the game - it's tech-focused criticism. And when aspects of this Definitive Edition can't match the 12-year-old PS3 original(!), calling it a downgrade is more than justified.
Thanks to everyone who commented here respectfully and in line with our community rules, whether or not you enjoyed this (excellent) article. We're signing off for the evening, so we'll be closing the comments until morning. Thanks, all!
@AG_Awesome Not specifically - I fired it up to test the invert button remapping and it looks and plays exactly as you'd expect. Ollie's been enjoying replaying it.
Felix is working on a little review adaptation atm, which will feature Switch 2 footage.
@Spider-Kev I believe they chopped out the DLC and released the base, non-Complete version for a cheaper price post-launch. So if you own the Complete Edition, you'll also have a licence for all the included parts and can download those separately.
@Anti-Matter As per the instructions, this isn't about nominating games for review - if you send a couple of lines about why you like the game and would recommend it to others, etc, I'd be happy to include it next time!
To address a couple of things, firstly, thanks to everyone who pointed out those little typos (I've corrected both instances, and we're genuinely grateful for the feedback).
And on the subject of feedback, I've added a line above the conclusion mentioning that we'll be adding additional discussion of various features not mentioned in the text at present. Hopefully, some added context will give everyone an expanded idea of the game's scope.
And echoing the sentiments above, thanks to @GoombaJMR for being here and addressing community questions so candidly!
@BaldB3lper78 It depends. We've done our best to cover as much as possible (in an ideal world, I'd review absolutely everything - and that goes for Switch 1 too!). However, at this stage the boat has sailed for things like Civ 7 NS2 Ed. and Nobunaga's Ambition, etc, especially as we reviewed the Switch versions.
Reviews of less-recent games aren't totally out of the question, and we managed to cover Bokura last week. We're about to enter silly season for releases, though, so no promises.
To those looking for a breakdown of the specific games, the highlights, disappointments, etc, I’d love to do more on UFO 50 and it will definitely be featuring heavily in GOTY talk this year.
However, with respect, if you’re coming at this as a straight collection of neo-8-bit games and looking for a ratio of good:bad to justify a purchase, you’re perhaps missing the point. Discovery is part of the process and the narrative. The wavering, evolving quality as the tech and ideas expand through the ‘80s is part of UFO 50’s (his)story. The games are ‘levels’ in that overarching experience and I’d suggest that’s how it’s best approached. Discovering the hits and misses and gems that vibe with you personally and the narrative threads is the joy of this game. There’s just so much here.
@AmplifyMJ I'm curious - what's your take on how we present DF on the site? We're big fans of the team and I struggle to think of any time we haven't shared their findings and verdicts in a fairly simple, straightforward manner.
@Old-Red Sorry, I didn't mean to come across aggressive! The implication that the dev isn't smart because they didn't plan for this feels misguided, though.
All the extra work and legal aspects aside, it's not as simple as just switching in assets, changing the title to 'Tom Dick Hex' and carrying on. It would be a new, separate game needing fresh rounds of certification, testing, etc. That's not cheap!
As the dev, publisher, and platform holder, Nintendo would have greater power and resources to negotiate and work around an expired licence, but indie devs face all sorts of hurdles and deadlines that make it impractical.
Absolutely, it would be great to see this live on, but for the vast majority of developers, it's just not possible to think that far ahead.
@Old-Red A smart developer...with oodles of cash and extra dev time and people and resources and a publisher agreement letting them duplicate all assets during a tight production schedule for when the licence expires.

Aaanyhow, great game.

@Pillowpants All the abbreviations?
YMMV is a fairly old, fairly common abbreviation and the whole site was built on a friendly tone and conversational style. LLAP 🖖

@Lord No, they're all GKCs. I'll look into getting that changed.

It should be complete, and we'll do our best to keep it up to date and republish when appropriate.

Re: Site News: So, Where's Our Metroid Prime 4 Switch 1 Review?
@sportymariosonicmixx This list should be accurate. Basically anything with "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" in the title.

@ImpromptuR ? The quote you pulled literally gives you the context about the reviewer you need to know. ie. She doesn't generally come to Pokémon games for the combat, but the battles here are good enough to grab her attention anyway.
Do we need really need to trot out the "all reviews can only be subjective" line in 2025?

Re: Review: Star Trek: Resurgence (Switch) - '90s Trek Fan? This'll Transport You
Fascinating. I've added a line noting the curtailing of character movement from the other versions.
Also, c'mon people - Riker's in the key art. They announced him before the game launched, interviews with Frakes, the works! Not a spoiler.
