Re: Two Cancelled Virtual Boy Games Coming To NSO In 2026, Including F-Zero Spin-Off

*Starts eyeing the NSO VB goggles thingy.

*Starts eyeing the old Labo VR set and hoping some cardboard 'modding' will work.

@BrianJL Googling it, I get a bunch of casino/slots rubbish coming up alongside pages detailing the unreleased game. My personal theory would be that any potential legal entanglements with random, funds-rich companies wouldn't be worth the aggro for Nintendo. Easier to just shorten the name and sidestep entirely.

@Pillowpants Space is at a premium in the Joys/Cons at the end, so abbreviations make sense there.

You might find a cheeky 'FTW' in a personal aside, or an 'ASAP' (or a pun in a tagline), but generally we don't use abbreviations in body text beyond common tech terms (LCD, fps) or Latin.

I don't think having to look something up is a problem, either. I learned hundreds of words from searching for them back when it wasn't as simple as a long-press or punching it into google.

Aaanyhow, great game.

Re: Digital Foundry Dives Into Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition's "Big Downgrades" On Switch 2

My word, people. People! DF does brilliant, granular work, has done for years, highlighting issues, praising greatness, offering in-depth comparisons between all versions of a game. That's why we've covered their stuff throughout the Switch gen, as it's been particularly fascinating given all the ports we seen.

If you're not interested in that side of things, fine, but (as several people above have emphasised) their work isn't an attack against people enjoying the game - it's tech-focused criticism. And when aspects of this Definitive Edition can't match the 12-year-old PS3 original(!), calling it a downgrade is more than justified.

To address a couple of things, firstly, thanks to everyone who pointed out those little typos (I've corrected both instances, and we're genuinely grateful for the feedback).

And on the subject of feedback, I've added a line above the conclusion mentioning that we'll be adding additional discussion of various features not mentioned in the text at present. Hopefully, some added context will give everyone an expanded idea of the game's scope.

And echoing the sentiments above, thanks to @GoombaJMR for being here and addressing community questions so candidly!

Re: The Best Nintendo Switch 2 Games

@BaldB3lper78 It depends. We've done our best to cover as much as possible (in an ideal world, I'd review absolutely everything - and that goes for Switch 1 too!). However, at this stage the boat has sailed for things like Civ 7 NS2 Ed. and Nobunaga's Ambition, etc, especially as we reviewed the Switch versions.

Reviews of less-recent games aren't totally out of the question, and we managed to cover Bokura last week. We're about to enter silly season for releases, though, so no promises.

Re: Review: UFO 50 (Switch) - A Wondrous Smorgasbord Of Retro Delights

To those looking for a breakdown of the specific games, the highlights, disappointments, etc, I’d love to do more on UFO 50 and it will definitely be featuring heavily in GOTY talk this year.

However, with respect, if you’re coming at this as a straight collection of neo-8-bit games and looking for a ratio of good:bad to justify a purchase, you’re perhaps missing the point. Discovery is part of the process and the narrative. The wavering, evolving quality as the tech and ideas expand through the ‘80s is part of UFO 50’s (his)story. The games are ‘levels’ in that overarching experience and I’d suggest that’s how it’s best approached. Discovering the hits and misses and gems that vibe with you personally and the narrative threads is the joy of this game. There’s just so much here.

Also, I’ve already put four hours into Mortol.

Re: PSA: You Only Have A Few Days To Buy This Bithell Games Title Before It's Gone

@Old-Red Sorry, I didn't mean to come across aggressive! The implication that the dev isn't smart because they didn't plan for this feels misguided, though.

All the extra work and legal aspects aside, it's not as simple as just switching in assets, changing the title to 'Tom Dick Hex' and carrying on. It would be a new, separate game needing fresh rounds of certification, testing, etc. That's not cheap!

As the dev, publisher, and platform holder, Nintendo would have greater power and resources to negotiate and work around an expired licence, but indie devs face all sorts of hurdles and deadlines that make it impractical.

Absolutely, it would be great to see this live on, but for the vast majority of developers, it's just not possible to think that far ahead.
