Re: Soapbox: Nintendo Needs More Characters Like Paper Mario's Vivian

Hello all. We're reaching the end of the day here in Europe, so we'll be closing the comments for the evening. Thank you to everyone who has discussed the game and this topic in good faith, with intelligence and patience.
To everyone else, I'd invite you to review our Community Rules and please remember that Nintendo Life is a welcoming, friendly community for ANYONE who loves video games and wants to share that passion.
You're always free to express your opinions and criticisms in the comments, but if the inclusive sentiments in articles like this anger you for some reason, it's worth reflecting on what you're looking for from an online community and, ultimately, if this one is right for you. Thanks. - Ed.

Re: Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes Switch Update Adding Performance Mode

@-wc- It's 100% NOT our job to think about sales, but to offer readers a subjective opinion on a game's quality. In an ideal world, I'd love every single NL review to be constantly updated, but the sheer number of games and updates that come out make it totally unfeasible, unfortunately! We can only ever review a game in the state it is at the time of writing. If significant updates drop which reportedly improve things, we typically add a note at the top of the review, but we don't have the resources to revisit games individually.

In the case of No Man's Sky, the Waypoint update went live four days after launch and we knew it was coming, so we decided to publish a Review In Progress over the weekend which we finalised the following Tuesday. PJ reviewed that one for us in-house, which made updating it easier.

Re: Random: Here's What's Inside A Switch Cart

dartmonkey

@DarkTron Which specific Youtubers are we advertising?

Even if it's been covered elsewhere in the past, I don't remember seeing the inside of a Switch cart before. My hunch is that it'll be interesting to many readers for whom NL is their main gateway to Nintendo-related content.

Re: Review: LEGO Animal Crossing - Bunnie's Outdoor Activities - Is It Any Good?

@Lofoten The pros and cons aren't a scale that dictates the score, they're a quick, general overview of our impressions. There could be four pros and one con and it could still be a 6, it's not a 1:1 thing. Also, a 6/10 is an above-average, decent score!

I personally prefer minifigures from an aesthetic POV, but it's not about throwing the Super Mario functionality into the AC sets. That could have been an option, but there are loads of possibilities Nintendo/Lego could have explored given how imaginative both companies are. Nintendo's MO is to "surprise and delight", and it feels like these sets are lacking the former.

I'll be taking a look at the other ones soon, so fingers crossed they'll hold more surprises.

Re: Mother 3 Is Coming To Nintendo Switch Online, But There's A Catch

@jco83 I've been looking into this today and while it is easy enough to switch regions quickly, there are some caveats to consider in certain cases, especially if you're the admin of a Family Group.

Personally, I'd rather have a separate Nintendo Account/profile to access the Japanese eShop whenever I want, but I've assembled a guide for switching regions and embedded it in the article above.

Re: Best Nintendo Remakes Of All Time, Ranked

dartmonkey

@JohnnyMind You know, I might just do that when we add Mario vs. DK in due course. I enjoy exploring the delineation between remakes and remasters, and it created some good discussion on the previous post where we canvassed opinion, but it is nebulous and seems to be derailing things here.

@NerdyBoutKirby You're right — thanks for the heads-up.

@Sisilly_G You're also right! I've replaced the box and banner art.

Re: Best Nintendo Remakes Of All Time, Ranked

@gcunit Yep, it was posing the question and requesting ratings, and this is the result.

@CaleBoi25 As we covered before, it's in the title!

As I said before, there's a fine line and several grey areas, and we haven't been consistent in our own categorisation over the last two decades. I think a game that has the word Remastered in its title is a pretty open-shut case, though.

Re: Talking Point: What's The Best Nintendo Remake Ever?

dartmonkey

We've discussed it some more and decided to remove Donkey Kong GB from the running. It's a great game, but essentially a port of arcade DK with an entirely new game bolted on the end — not really a 'remake'.

It's more like 3D World + Bowser's Fury, if Bowser's Fury was 80% of the game.

We've also eliminated Mario World and Yoshi's Island on GBA, which feel more like straight ports than remakes.

Re: Talking Point: What's The Best Nintendo Remake Ever?

@MarioBrickLayer There are always cases that blur the lines between remake and remasters, but LA is a total rebuild. I can’t imagine there’s anything of the original Game Boy code running under the hood, whereas Metroid Prime Remastered is an augmented HD version of the GameCube original.

@Poodlestargenerica Ha, I can’t think of any examples of Excitebot-style controls specifically, but loads of games must measure z movement — 1-2-Switch, Switch Sports, Warioware Move It, off the top of my head.

Someone tore down and reverse engineered them — it definitely measures all three axes with both accelerometer and gyro:
