Re: Rune Factory 5 Will Feature Same-Sex Marriage In The West

Okay, it's the end of the day in this part of the world, and we'll be locking down the comments section until tomorrow when we can actively moderate again. Our hope is to reach the point soon when this won't be necessary.

Thank you to all who have contributed positively. See you tomorrow.

Re: Review: Hot Wheels Unleashed - Probably The Best Hot Wheels Game Ever

@DashKappei ? Chris explicitly discusses the handling, the drifting and how the boost mechanic affects each car's racing style, and he mentions solid performance in all modes in the conclusion. He discusses the visuals and the lack of interaction with the backgrounds, and the text is supplemented with screens giving you a look at the game in both docked and handheld mode.

@Tobiaku

1. All articles are monitored to the best of our abilities and we receive alerts when comments are flagged via the 'Report' button (which we encourage everyone to use if they spot something they believe breaks the site's rules). If we judge a comment to have broken any of our Community Rules, it will be removed, regardless of which article it's sitting under.

There haven't been any significant changes to the rules or our approach to moderation, although new tools which leave removed posts in place (with the reason for removal visible to all) might make it appear like we're 'stricter' than we have been in the past (when those comments would simply disappear).

A couple of recent articles attracted several hundred comments, too - way more than is typical - and required specific attention due to the sheer quantity, but our approach is no different.

2. Our rules define the following as 'unconstructive':

Do not post - unless you have something useful to say; Only post when you have something meaningful to say or something that will contribute to the discussion. Posts such as "Yes" or "I agree", "Slow News Day?" or "LOL" are un-constructive.

More generally, I'd say we're willing to let conversation veer off-topic provided the discussion was sparked by the same article (and not brought over from an unrelated post) and as long as people are respectful and civil when expressing their opinions and interacting with others.

Again, if you spot anything you believe breaks the rules, 'Report' it and we'll address it in due course. The process behind moderation decisions is the same for everything, though.

Re: Disgaea Series Hits 5 Million Sales

I've removed a whole bunch of comments related to another article entirely and edited a couple of references. Please don't leave comments discussing non-related articles.

As stated in the article in question itself, we temporarily closed the comments overnight. It's now open again. If you wish to discuss moderation, please use the Contact form at the bottom of the page.

Re: Soapbox: Super Metroid Showed Me I Had The Right To Exist

@Lordplops When people are going round in circles, it’s time to move on.

@BloodNinja This is a celebratory article about a great Nintendo game by a respected writer with an extensive knowledge of the field who has written many fantastic pieces for the site before. I’m not sure how it deviates from the ‘advertised’ tone.

Re: Random: Nintendo Customer Service Wins The Day With Sweet Response To Young Pokémon Fan

We're locking this comment section now, mainly because I have to go and eat something. Thank you to all who contributed in a measured, positive manner and added constructively to the conversation.

Regarding the comments removed, several of them weren't offensive per se, but simply weren't adding anything of substance to the discussion or served only to 'egg on' others.

You can read our Community Rules at the link below, but I'd like to remind everyone that while you're entitled to your opinions, we're not obliged to host them. We want NL to be a welcoming, positive space for all, and as always it comes down to the old "If you can't say something nice..." chestnut.

Re: Random: Nintendo Customer Service Wins The Day With Sweet Response To Young Pokémon Fan

dartmonkey

@Menardi The author isn't removing any comments. And locking down comments sections is only ever a last resort; pre-emptively locking them would be depressing for everyone involved.

We'd like to believe that people can celebrate positive stories about video games and calmly discuss differences of opinion where appropriate and without glib remarks that contribute nothing to the conversation.

Re: Random: Nintendo Customer Service Wins The Day With Sweet Response To Young Pokémon Fan

dartmonkey

Hello all. I have removed a bunch of unhelpful, unconstructive or downright offensive comments and will continue to do so as required.

This is a nice little story about a kid getting a response from Nintendo, but apparently that's too much for some people to take on a Tuesday afternoon.

Please consider what you're posting before hitting 'Reply'. If it's not pleasant or additive to the conversation in a positive way, it may well be removed.

Re: Talking Point: Why Metroid Dread Will Be Worth $60

dartmonkey

@San_D The point is to discuss why Dread has a $60 price tag and why that's reasonable, whether it's six or sixty hours long, as well as pour cold water on the hot take that it should cost less simply because it's '2D'.

And I can't say that it will be A Good Game, only that it looks promising and that $60 is a fair price, regardless. My not liking a game doesn't make the price unreasonable.

Re: Talking Point: Why Metroid Dread Will Be Worth $60

dartmonkey

@San_D Nintendo doesn’t need defending. They’ve analysed the market and judged that people will pay $60, which seems exactly correct.

To look at what we’ve seen so far and scoff at the price tag because it’s ‘just’ 2D though? I can’t understand that.
