Marvelous Europe has revealed that BurgerTime Party! will be launching exclusively on Nintendo Switch on 8th October.
The game is a reimagining of DATA EAST's 1982 arcade game BurgerTime, which actually found its way to NES back in the day. This new release throws players into another course of food-based puzzle platforming, with Chef Peter Pepper and his Food Foes making a tasty return.
You'll come up against more than 100 stages full of kitchen hazards ranging from freezing ladders to fiery floors. On top of the standard single-player mode, you'll be able to jump into a local multiplayer session of 2-4 players, either working together in co-op, or taking control of the game's enemies in a 'Battle Burger' mode. You can also take on the world in the 'Challenge Burger' mode, which comes with its very own leaderboard.
Check out these new screenshots below:
Pricing for the game will be set at £17.99 / €19.99 when it becomes available next month.

My baby bro needs to know about this, he made me watch him play this other burger themed game. May have been the same one!
The really crappy (and only) movie theater near my hometown had a Burger Time arcade cabinet in the lobby... this brings back memories.
I think I also rented the NES version once...
Getting heavy Cuphead-vibes from the cutesy, rounded, noodle-limbed character designs. Which isn't a bad thing.
Burgertime was one of my favorite arcade games when I was a kid, and it holds a sentimental place in my heart. I'm very curious, and optimistic, about this version. Just wish the original would find its way onto the Switch somehow.
I'm fond of the arcade game. I'm not confident the gameplay is going to hold my interest, but the price is about right. I was worried the price would be $30+. Would have tried it if it was sold January to August, but it's the sept 20 bonanza of grid autosport, link's awakening, and i still have a lot of spyro & N Sane Trilogy, and the Trials Rising dlc.
@delt75
Yeah, where's the original arcade version? I have zero interest in the nes version, but that's probably the one that'll get released.
I'll have to keep an eye on this. Loved the arcade version when I was a kid.
I'll be getting this physically for sure
@TJWorks I was about to say the same thing about the art style.
I really like the Cuphead art style on this.
But the carrot enemy is replaced with a donut?
What a weird decision.
Always hungry for a new game if it's worth buying!
i'm interested.
BurgerTime is great! Might get this.
I loved playing this on, I think, a colecovision ! Returned to play it recently at an arcade and it was sooooo hard. “Impossible Burger time” .
I’d give this a whirl though, if it’s priced keenly.
Edit , 17 quid? Pass I think.
Looks great, love the art style. Looks like something from an 80s arcade cab come to life
Why not 8-player?
Bring back Q-bert!
#@$!!
But as for food-themed old arcade cabs, I actually liked one called "Food Fight" better than Burgertime. It was like a twin-stick shooter.
On the eshop or physically? I thought we already had a Burgertime game?? I have love/hate memories of playing this in the arcade. ❤
@SepticLemon Well it was kind of strange that someone would put a carrot on a burger. Also a donut on a burger is called a Luther Vandross.
Burger Time was one of the best arcade games ever.....glad to see it lives on!
@Teksetter
They did bring back Q-bert a few years ago. It was either on one of the Xbox or Playstation consoles.
Surprised for the absence of comments like "it looks like a flash game". A nice surprise. Let's see if the game is good, though.
I also wish the arcade original got a release, but considering the sequel came via Johnny Turbo's Arcade, which had the rights of almost all Data East games, and that the company seems defunct after more than a year without releases, I don't have much hope left.
@Moroboshi876 ACA
@sixrings Hamster doesn't have the rights of Data East games.
@Moroboshi876 they got the neo Geo basketball game from data East. If Johnny turbo is going under then maybe they can sell the rights to aca. It can't be that hard. 1-up arcade managed to get the tmnt arcade license. Makes me think all things are possible.
@Moroboshi876 I was just about to comment that it both looks and sounds like a flash game 😅
Those chirping bird noises are sure to get old quick.
@SepticLemon I just remember Mr. Hot Dog, Mr. Pickle, and Mr. Egg as the three enemies in the original game. Anyway, though, I LOVED Burger Time! I downloaded BT Deluxe on the 3DS, and I still have the NES and GB carts stored somewhere. Got Super Burger Time on the Switch too, but it's just not the same.
I have the physical version pre-ordered.
@sixrings I hope you're right!
Recently played Burgertime Deluxe on 3DS virtual console (Gameboy version) and really enjoyed it. A level editor for this version would have been a good idea but as it is the game seems a little pricey.
@Tempestryke
Oh cool! Thank you, I’ll have to research that. My sister and I wore out a few Colecovision controllers playing Qbert and other games back in the day. I don’t know if it was Arcade-perfect, but it was close!
@Teksetter Welcome, Q-bert is one of my favorite arcade games too. This one is on the PS4 and Vita.
@kirbygirl Same. I didn't know there was a carrot or donut.
@Moroboshi876. Aww that sucks.
@Googie Eww that's sacrilege! And disgusting! And just plain yuck! XQ
@Tempestryke It's really a thing!
https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/luther-burger/
@kirbygirl 😥 That looks gross.
@Tempestryke Totally agree.
While the Cuphead artstyle existed since the 1930s, of course they are following the steps of Cuphead after it became a success.
But I don't care, it's good to see more games with that style.
Loved the original! The Intellivision version was the best! (Still eagerly awaiting the new Intellivision Amico next year!!!)
This looks like it could be fun. Not a fan of the artstyle (didn't like Cuphead's art style at all either).
Hope they also change the sound effect for walking over food slices — not sure I can "stomach" it repeatedly — hahaha ...okay I need more sleep.
I wonder if the Amico version will look better than this. I still play this on NES through my hack NES Classic mini but not sure if I would get this new version especially for that price. If it drops to around $5-$8 then maybe I'll give it a try.
For some reason this has always been one of my favorite games from the era.
This looks like a flash game! BUT...it looks fun. I'll get it anyways lol
@Moroboshi876 Ironically enough, this game would warrant those kind of comments far more than Streets of Rage 4 ever did. (yes, I'm still salty about that)
Looks cheap and the audio is annoying, but had they said it included the arcade original, I'd of happily given it a try.
@Moroboshi876 It looks like a... Shockwave game!
Though I could never get far, I've always loved BurgerTime. I'll keep an eye on this one.
One of my favorite games as a kid. Also had one of the first LCD games of BurgerTime and I played it until it broke. Excited about this, but would love if it came with the original arcade game as a bonus.
Preordered this, I need more couch co-op games for the family, and I love Burger Time.
@Googie The idea with Burger Time was that the enemies in the game are meant to be foods that you don't put on a burger.
@kirbygirl Actually yes, There were carrot and pea pod enemies in Super Burger Time, not the original. Super Burger Time was an odd one, it was like they were trying to make the game look like a Bubble Bobble clone.
Played this one the arcade and Intellivision game console. I miss this game. I want the physical version but why is it $30 and the digital only $20 at the estore. Grrr
