The folks over at Modus Games and developer Frozenbyte have shared a brand new video for Trine 4, giving us a good, behind-the-scenes look into some of the ideas behind the game.
This new clip dives into the inspirations, themes, and core goals of the project, and also provides a glimpse of some of the game's enemies and adaptive puzzles. It's actually the third video in a 'Indie Access' series; we've posted the first two parts below if you've missed those.
Trine 4 marks a return to the series' signature 2.5D origins and is set to be the largest, most ambitious game of the lot. It's arriving on 8th October alongside a special Trine: Ultimate Collection which includes all four games in one bundle.
Are you a fan of the Trine series? Will you be checking out the new game? Let us know in the usual place.

I like Trine, I LOVE 9 Parchments.
I'm sure to get this, but likely after it goes on sale.
I really want to know how easy it is to play. The past Trine games felt so sloppy in controls. They're a mess of trying to make boxes and switch characters and angle your shield the right way while solving a puzzle that requires precision.
They were fun to play and look at the visuals, but the gameplay has often bordered on ridiculously frustrating.
I don't know if they can fix that, but if so I might go for a day 1 buy instead of waiting 6 months to get it on sale.
60fps please
I wouldn’t consider myself a fan. But I do appreciate the series a lot. I like platformers, I like vibrant colors and I like soothing music. I got 1,2 and 3 already, so I gotta add 4 as well. Looking good by the way!
I like the color palette, which is refreshing, but the general aesthetic (especially character models) aren't my thing. It's hard for me to look at. Feels a bit like Fable, which suffered from the same awkward, janky character models , imho.
@aznable I am put off by the colors, honestly. There are just too many of them, and too many effects, everything is super busy and shiny and glowing and sparking, etc. If done well, this can work for goofy stylized games like Rayman, but with the somewhat more realistic characters and environmental elements in Trine games, I just don't like it. Too little taste, and too much of everything else.
Contrast with another indie game, Hollow Knight, for example: HK is much more restrained, and more consistent, and in my opinion, so much more tasteful.
I suspect that the designers of Trine could do better as well, and the graphics in the Trine games was done this way because of the (perceived) expectations of the audience that often doesn't have too much taste, and think "good graphics" means lots of colors, many effects everywhere, high resolution, and stuff like that. Good graphics is, before all, is good taste.
When I found out about only 4 on the physical “ultimate” collection I cancelled it
