Following the classic tycoon game formula but placing its own aquatic twist on proceedings is Megaquarium, which just so happens to be launching on Switch next month.
The game has you running your very own aquarium filled with hundreds of guests, tens of staff, and almost 100 different aquatic life forms like fish, sharks, crustaceans, corals, jellyfish, and turtles. It won't be filled to the brim straight away, though, as you'll start with just a few tanks and basic stock; your job is to help your aquarium thrive.
There's a 10-level campaign mode which has you learning how to design and manage your aquarium, and you'll also find a sandbox mode with customisable settings and a random challenge generator. Here's a quick feature list and a selection of screenshots to show you a little more:
- Design the layout of your aquarium and create attractive displays
- 100 different species to research, from sharks and crustaceans to corals and jellyfish
- Recruit the right staff for the job so your fish get the best care possible
- Beat the challenging campaign then make your dream aquarium in sandbox mode
The game will be launching on Nintendo Switch and other consoles on 18th October.
Does this sound like your kind of thing? Will you be creating your dream aquarium on Switch next month? Tell us below.

Oh, Nintendo, hook up with Arika to make a new Endless Ocean already...
I have it on PC as well. Good game. May get it on consoles, because my PC isn't optimised to run games, so this game lags a bit if the levels get too big. Was thinking about picking up the PS4 version, but does the Switch version have touch controls? If so, I may get it on Switch instead.
Totally interested!
...and uncertain if a controller is the best way to play something like this. I think a mouse is likely to be interface for this type of game.
...and I second having another Endless Ocean - lovely unappreciated Wii games!
This sounds fun! I’ve got too many games in the backlog but I’ll add this to the wish list for sure
Remember My Aquarium on Wii. It was at number 1 on the Wii shop for ages despite being nothing more than an animated screen saver.
Ugh I love fish so this seems up my alley. Hopefully it's good, I like creative sandboxes and used to adore Zoo Tycoon as a kid
I wonder if this will be updated with new stuff. Not that I've already played it before, lol. Anyways curious, will keep an eye on it.
@Peterjr1 If you have a PC, keep an eye out for Planet Zoo. It’s the old Zoo Tycoon crew making a spiritual successor, same as how Planet Coaster was to Rollercoaster Tycoon
I keep a real aquarium, so this will be interesting, if the price is right.
I can do this already in Dragon Quest Builders 2
Looks fishy if you ask me.
