Update (11th Sep, 11:30 BST): GRID Autosport developer Feral Interactive has now shared a brand new gameplay video which lets us see just how good the game looks on Switch. You can check it out for yourself above - we think it's looking rather lovely indeed.
Original Article (9th Sep, 16:30 BST): It feels like almost every game under the sun is launching on Switch in September, but now we have another one with a confirmed date. Yes, AAA racer GRID Autosport zooms onto the Switch scene on the 19th.
The news comes alongside confirmation that the game will initially be a single-player experience on Switch, with a free, future multiplayer update already being worked on by the development team. The game will be priced at $34.99 / £29.99 / €34.99 and is already available to pre-purchase from the eShop.
If you've missed our previous coverage on this one - such as the recent confirmation that the game will support GameCube controllers - feel free to check out this official description below:
Originally developed and published by Codemasters for consoles and Windows, and later brought to iPhone and iPad by Feral Interactive, GRID Autosport will be the first full-on racing simulator to come to Nintendo Switch.
GRID Autosport challenges players to become pro-racers, mastering motorsport's most exciting cars on the world's most thrilling circuits, from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to the city streets of Barcelona. With customisable difficulty, an extensive range of control options and a wide variety of driving disciplines, GRID Autosport delivers an irresistible mix of realistic handling and high-speed thrills, at home or on the move.
Are you looking forward to this one? How's your September Switch wishlist looking? We've got this, The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age - Definitive Edition, Mario Kart Tour, Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, DAEMON X MACHINA, Untitled Goose Game, Spyro Reignited Trilogy - which is out now - as well as all the SNES games, the Nintendo Switch Lite, and more.
How are we supposed to afford all of this, Nintendo?

Didn't we already know that from last week?
tldr....when was it coming out?
If it reviews well its a day-one purchase for me, digitally. Have €35 in my account already waiting for it.
Day one for me too, cannot wait. I really need to get myself a bigger SD card though, the fridge cleaning I'm having to do with every new title I buy is annoying and takes me back to the Wii days.
It’s not that I don’t like this at all.. it’s just that of all racing games that I would have liked to see... the one ported previously to mobile, is the one I least wanted. Dirt Rally, F1, or virtually any other Codemasters racing game.
Let’s go.... but I guess I should be thankful for what we get.
EDIT : After seeing this in action on the Switch - I’m happy to be surprised. I’m sold... I mean, it’s still not Dirt Rally, but it looks fantastic anyway.
Potentially the only racing game for switch so far with some realism not hunting shadows combined with nice graphics
Just in time for the Switch Lite! Both will be day one purchases for me (my original Switch will be left in it's dock from then on).
Day 1 for me. Have my GameCube controller ready for some analogue throttle control baby yeah! I really shouldn’t be this excited! Yeh!
I love racers - will watch the reviews with excitement!
...and I wish it had come out at a different time. I'm sure between Zelda & DQ11 I will not be looking to get yet another game that particular week.
Already spending a lot this month on the Switch so won't be able to get it day one. Though I'm really excited to hear impressions and reviews l. Really hope this is a great port!
I hope it supports the analog ZL/ZR buttons on the 8bitDo controllers too!
No physical??
Day one for me this. Just would have liked on cart
I’m waiting for a review
Day 1 pick-up for me! Been a lack of well made racing games on Switch.
Need physical.
Really need this as a physical release but isn't this the first game from Codemasters on the Switch?? I wish to support them so providing this reviews well I will pick it up...
I'm so desperate for this to be good, or 'alright' at least.
Looking at the car list on Google has my inner car-geek excited - classic minis, Caterhams, Ariel Atoms...
I enjoyed MotoGP 18 even though it was a bit basic in looks, but this is the game I'm really looking forward to. I'm even holding off getting DQ for this. Mainly cos I won't have time to complete DQ before The Witcher arrives.
Will be watching the reviews for this one like a hawk. If it reviews well, I’m in.
I'd love to have a realistic racer in my Switch library. Having said that, given the recent love-in between Ninty and Microsoft, I wonder if we'll ever see the likes of Forza make the jump to the Switch..?
Nothing like week old news...
Ah, the one I waited all summer for. Not certain if I'll manage to get it at launch now, but I'm already doing the card space management calculations in my head for it - a testament to serious intentions. 😄
Switch trailer looks good but I'm not sure if it will review well.....?
Of all the driving games in the world? I'd rather have these on my switch Sega rally, Out run 2, Burnout 3, MSR, Ridge racer, Test drive, The Need for speed (1). Micro machines....
@Lord don't really understand the strange choice comment?
You mentioned a bunch of games that codemasters have nothing to do with.
So ready! A real racing sim on a Nintendo console.
I really need a physical for this..
@OorWullie What size do you currently have? I just recently bought a 512gb for $65. Took a chance on a lesser known brand and so far works great. I saw some reviews said specifically bought for the Switch. That's nearly half the price I spent on my 256gb 2 years ago....
@OorWullie Have you considered the automatic fridge cleaning option? It does a pretty decent job (and you can opt games out of it if there are ones you always want on there)
@Spoony_Tech I just have a 128gb and a 64gb card I've had for ages. I regretted purchasing it the moment I plopped it in my Switch. I said to myself 'I'll just switch the 2 cards and keep lesser played games on the 64gb'. My 128gb was filled long ago and the 64gb card has never been back in my Switch. I'll get myself a bigger one when I get back to Thailand but they're not really that cheap there. I might order one from the US during Black Friday as even with the custom fees, it works out cheaper than the UK and Thailand. That's a great deal you got yours, what brand is that?
@OorWullie It's a Gigastone. I hate taking chances on an off brand but it seemed legit from the reviews I saw plus was about $25 cheaper. Now I have only about half of the card filled but I haven't put everything on it yet.
@Rubbercookie I'm not sure I've ever noticed that option before. I'll have a look later, cheers. I'm at the stage now where I'm having to delete games I really don't want to delete. I have to face facts and get myself a bigger card.
A gameplay video by Feral Interactive with a good look at the graphics and many of the different options in the game dropped yesterday: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XkZYV_MlrM4
Seems like they put some effort into this port. Considering there isn't much competition for racing sims on the Switch, I may pick it up if it reviews well
Looks amazing. Cannot wait to play it.
Well it's a port of a 5 year old racer from PS3/360, but at least it's something in the sim racing genre which the system is sorely lacking. PS4/XB1 are actually getting the new GRID game next month, but I suppose this is better than nothing and will probably be a nice step up from Gear Club.
So excited for this as I never played the original release. And the amount of Switch accommodation is pretty surprising.
Already bought a 400 GB SanDisc micro SD for (around) 75$. My old 128 GB probably going to NS Lite (still considerating because of joy-con drifting). I also want the physical release of GRID, but only for improve my collection (this beautiful red cover!). Also day-one buy after few reviews around 8/10
Looks like a lot of effort has gone into this. I'm looking forward to it.
This looks like a solid af switch port
aint sure if its my type of games, as i've never played much of realistic racers, but colour me intrigued
At £30 deffo. Can other publishers take note. We will happily pay full price if you price the game sensibly. Loved the last line btw, 'Pay once. Play forever'.
I wish they showed the 60fps graphics mode in the trailer! I love good racing games that run at 60fps. Can't wait to try this one out.
Looks good but no analogue triggers are a deal breaker for me.
@Kidfunkadelic83 this beauty works with the GC controller and they have the analogue triggers working for throttle and brake control. This is huge for me. Got my GC controller and adapter ready. Can’t wait. This game starts a ridiculous run of games for me. So pumped.
One has to look at the RIP OFF PRO CONTROLLERS. How Nintendo can't spare the 0.000000001p difference in mass production manufacture for analogue triggers is beyond me. It's completely intentional too, design flaws on purpose
No good for me if I want to play at work tho. The biggest problem for me with the switch this is.
@Kidfunkadelic83 As an alternative, you could also use the right stick for analog gas and brake controls. I know it's not perfect, but it works, for on the go. And as mentioned by others, at home, the GameCube controller will be the perfect fit for full analog control.
@N8tiveT3ch “tldr” lol you only had to read the title to find out!
All nice and good, but the page on the nintendo eshop says it's ONE PLAYER only. Can anyone confirm or deny this? Would be horrible for a racing game to be SINGLE PLAYER only!!
@Mii_duck
Go out immediately and get a copy of motogp 19.
Absolutely amazing. Head and shoulders above 18 in so many ways.
5 years ago, feral interactive did also port this game over to linux! they're doing an awesome job with these windows ports. the game runs great on linux & mac - so i guess it will be as good as possible on switch too.
they've also ported tomb raider (1st one and rise of), dirt rally, dirt 4 and more titles to linux. so my guess is - if this game does well, maybe we'll see also tomb raider in future on our little number 1 console ;D
i would buy rise of the tomb raider or shadow of the tomb raider on day 1 - go feral go!!! <3
A few more gameplay videos from youtubers who got review copies are out now. This really looks like one of the best optimized ports we have seen on the Switch in any genre. The choice of performance, graphics or battery saving mode, highly customizable controls, HD rumble strenght options ++ Can't wait to play it. Really 'well done' to Feral interactive!
Really excited for this. Looks great!
The switch September lineup is amazing. There are a years worth of games packed into this month.
