More news on the upcoming Streets of Rage 4 is finally coming next week, and we're desperately hoping for confirmation that the game will be headed to Switch.
The revival of Sega's classic side-scrolling fighter series was first revealed back in the summer of 2018, when it was announced that Lizardcube and DotEmu - the studios behind Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap on Switch - were in charge. We've had little snippets of info arrive on our laps since then, but this little tease sounds like we could be in for something a little more worthwhile.
Now, the game hasn't had any particular platforms confirmed just yet, although as we've said numerous times in the past, we'd be super-surprised it if didn't end up on Switch. Perhaps next week's announcement will confirm the game's existence on Nintendo's machine? Perhaps it'll even star in next week's Nindies Direct? Or perhaps we're getting ahead of ourselves just a little bit?
Either way, make sure to check back with us next week to see if the game is indeed headed to Switch and feel free to make a wish in the comments below.

What?! It's not confirmed for Switch yet?!
🤯 Let's Go!!!!! It's time to clean the rage filled streets again!🙌🏼
I have the other two systems, so I’m getting this no matter where it shows up. But truthfully, I want this for my Switch. Fingers crossed
Nostalgia triggered SOR 2 on my game gear was the $&?!
Can't see how this isn't Switch bound and best be day one or first on. These games sell best on the Switch as well.
This, AHiT, Shantae, and the Yooka-Laylee spinoff are all quite exciting. Some really good indie releases on the horizon.
I hope it is coming to PC and has online co-op so I can play with my friend, I just can't do that on Switch.
Perhaps they will reveal more playable characters.
There should be more than just two since the first game started off with three,
If it doesn't doesn't run like $#!+ on the Switch I will get it. Kind of tired of developers half @$$ing the Switch versions. Put it out when it's done!
I hope it's coming to Switch and with physical release too. Knowing it's from Lizard Cube, I pray the best in that regards.
This and windjammers 2 are the games I really want to play next.
If it doesnt get ported someone needs to be demoted to toilet scrubber.
It better be for the switch, because I would only buy it for that system.
What's that wallet... No no... Honestly it's fine... Don't cry...
Day 1 purchase. Can't wait.
I honestly hate this art-style. It looks like a game I’d play in my web browser. Doesn’t mean it won’t be a good game or fun to play, but I hate how it looks.
I hate games that look like they were made in flash anno 2001.
Day one purchase for sure! This is one of my top releases this year, I can’t wait!
I hope it has online co op. I might just get for both PS4 and Switch. A game like this needs to be on all current systems.
Windjammers 2 and Final Fantasy VIII Remastered are coming to the Switch from DotEmu. I'm sure Streets of Rage 4 will find its way as well.
@Supadav03
I get where you're going with that but this one doesn't look quite as bad as that.
I'd rather hand drawn or maybe a very detailed pixel game but this isn't too bad.
It would totally make sense for inclusion in the Indie showcase.... let’s do it Nintendo!
btw - for anyone considering the Genesis classic- which only has SOR1 and 2, the Genesis collection on Switch has 1,2 and 3. Plus both Shining Force titles and both Toejam and Earls. Kinda a better package to me..
Huh wasnt it already anounced for the switch?
Hope it lives up to SOR2, then maybe we will see Golden Axe get its due.
@Supadav03 Yeah this game kinda seems like a cash-in on the iconic name. I mean it could be fun but then again beat-em-ups are pretty simple games for this day and age. The graphics are a big part of the appeal and I feel letdown on that department.
@sword_9mm oh yeah, I’m def exaggerating a bit but those are the vibes it gives me.
For the Switch? Pleeeeease?
Yes this needs to be on switch 🤞🏻
Please announce the physical version for Switch!
@rdrunner1178 it's not confirmed for anything yet!
Love the original trilogy, but in 4 Axel looks absolutely TERRIBLE. Where’s the jeans and white t-shirt!?
It worries me that platforms haven’t been announced yet. All signs point to ‘yes’, but stranger things have happened. Hopefully it’s same day across whatever platforms it lands on.
I love the art style, suits the modern era well enough. What I dislike is that it appears there's no running? SoR3 had running and the game felt great for it.
And even though I'll only play with Blaze anyway, it would truly suck if she and Axel are the only playable characters.
It would be a shocker if it weren't coming to Switch. A game like this would sell best on Switch, no question.
@RedMan33 it has been confirmed for PS4 and Xbox One.
@JayJ when?!!? I've not seen that at least it's one of the machines I own then!
It's not listing Playstation or Xbox on the official site
@RedMan33 I am not sure when but I know gamefaqs has those two platforms listed already.

I really want to get it for Switch but if it's got 4K support on PS4 Pro or Xbox One X then that's the version I'm getting. I plan on playing this baby on my big TV with my roommate. Streets of Rage 1-3 are some of our go to games when we just want to chill and play a game together.
I'm still not a fan of the art style but it's great that they've got Yuzo Koshiro back on board.
As for The Switch, it's guaranteed to be on it. It'll be on everything.
@Wavey84 I can not relate with your sentiment about their artstyle it is gorgeous.
There is a lot of detail and a great sense of space in these backgrounds and from what I have seen the animation is wel detailed with little touches that make it feel more alive than need be.
It has a very oldschool french/belgian comic book vibe to it.
I guess you can still look forward to River City Girls if you want your pixel art.
Been watching this one
Tbh I'm still unsure if I like this artstyle, I see a lot of other people like it but I'd of liked pixel-art myself, the people who did Sonic Mania for example did a fantastic job
If it comes to switch, hope to see a physical release.
Also please don't put Denuvo in the PC version.. DO YOU HEAR ME SEGA?
i hope the the multiplayer for this isn't local only. I still get this game though.
Really don’t like the look of the characters. Probably a fun game, but I struggle to get over the graphics.
@neogyo Once it's hacked in a couple of months the MD mini will have every single game on it.
Lizard Cube rules the school. I’m still hoping they are doing something more with the gameplay ala (no surprise out of my mouth) Mother Russia Bleeds. MRB did things like add a grapple button to the mix (grab attack, throw, mid-air reversal, running takedown), and running attack options (slide tackle, running attack, and previously mentioned running takedown) and attacking downed opponents and made sure nothing was cheap. All of this with a simplicity that trumps putting in hadoukens and dragon punches ala Guardian Heroes and the awful Code of Princess Ex.
Edit: Also ran, those calling this a “flash game art style”...sorry, but it’s hand drawn animation. There’s less frames in the actions because nobody wants a beatemup that controls like Prince of Persia.
It better have online multiplayer.
I can't wait for this! it'll back some good memories.
@Wavey84 This is by far better animated than say, Castle crashers which is a high quality flash animation game.
Dismissing it having no soul or looks is a throw away argument when you can cleary see that it has more soul than most other games published by your average AAA studio, they picked 2 indie studies to work on this one for the art and one because they made a really good side scroller beat em up with digitalized fighters.
It clearly has some love behind it.
But I get it, it is new, axel looks more grunge and it overall has a more European feel to it than Japanese.
But just look at the screenshots, they are very detailed all characters cast shadows on the ground that differ per lvl, if you play gameplay footage of this game on slow in youtube you can see the details in animation.
sure this may not be on par with cuphead or wayforward but it is better than you give it credit for.
I find it so hard to swallow that some gamers can gush and fawn over the most generic and unimpressive 3D visuals but when a comic book artsyle is used they dismiss it as simplistic or 'flash style'
Flash games can be as versatile as the creator wants them to be but it's usually evident that flash is used by their segmented and somewhat out of place animations.
@robr I never really had any problems with Code of princess, atleast the 3DS version of it.
@khululy
It’s more or less the same game on Switch. More importantly, I’m glad you enjoyed it. Don’t let my opinion take that away from you.
There’s a very Guardian Heroes inspired game that came out on xbox 360 I discoverd this year called Sacred Citadel. I really got into it only to find out later how poorly received it was. Tomato to muh to.
@robr Sacred citadel felt more as a spiritual sequel to the Capcom Dungeons & Dragons games but it has been a while since I played it.
Where Code of princess bares more resemblance to Guardian Heroes.
Double Dragon Neon is often forgotten and Castle Crashers is a superb game too.
I am glad Streets of Rage sees the light of day and I like the art style of this game, it's something different than either going with 3D models or traditional sprite work.
I love Coin-op style side scrolling beat em ups now if only Capcom would release a good modern Final Fight I would be a happy camper.
@khululy
People keep suggesting I dip into Castle Crashers. Should I put it on my to do list?
@robr Yes you should imo, it's a solid game it has a bit of crass humor so be warned but it's a good 'golden axe' clone with very light character customization.
