Miitomo has been updated to version 1.2.0, and while it comes with the usual "bug fixes" and "speed increases", the most welcome addition is the ability to add friends using email or text messaging - handy for those who don't use social media accounts.
Another key change is the opportunity to edit Miifotos before posting them as comments, which means you can add text or alter elements to make the image more suitable for what you're trying to say.
Here's the full list of changes in 1.2.0:
- Added feature for inviting friends via email, SMS etc.
- Friend requests and blocking can now be carried out from comment and heart lists.
- When posting Miifotos in the comment list, existing Miifotos can now be edited and posted.
- An "Answer" option has been added to All Answers.
- Implemented other bug fixes and speed increases.

Social networking has never been so stable.
Still not interested. Logon each morning for the bonuses, a quick change of clothes then close it again. Can't be bothered answering silly questions. I'm hoping that it evolves into something better but right now it's extremely boring.
And Miitomo is still not available in Norway
Still no NNID? Sounds a bit weird for a Nintendo app, but at least now I'll manage to add a friend or two in it XD
Boring!! Deleted it weeks ago....
Its too much content to start with. App is too complicated and unintuitive. And took to much space on my phone.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I hope too, although if you have enough friends — you can dress them up for Miifotos and make meme/comics. Essentially playing dollies.
Adding friends by email should have been available from the start, but it's good to have now. Miitomo did seem faster for me today after the update.
Was on it early this morning before work, looking forward to checking in again later. Editing miifotos for use in comments is great.
Yeah, really disappointed in Nintendo for this. I deleted this a week or two ago, it just... It just didn't interest me to play.
Too late Nintendo, this should have been in it from the start. I lost interest on day 3...
@SLIGEACH_EIRE still not interested <> log on each morning
I'm not sure you understand how free social apps work. Every time you log on is all Nintendo cares about, as your checking in each day adds another +1 to their internal server count so they can report "active daily users".
In other words, Nintendo would be thrilled to have 10 million people as not interested as you.
So have the nintendo life readership shared any MiiTomo details for adding friends?
Counted to 33 while loading before the update, 23 after, so that's a very noticeable improvement in speed.
Now if they could just do something about the battery life, it seems to drain nearly twice as fast now as it did before I installed it and I only check in once a week.
I haven't gotten the update yet.
Let's see if my tablet will run it now. ... Nope, oh well.
Ohhh... wow. -_- Hopefully a content update is in the pipe... Constant updates to junk apps like this are how they survive. Or I wonder if Nintendo's going to treat Miitomo like an experimental version of its accessories.
Until they give an option to move the data files to an SD card, I'm not bothering installing it again. When the app took up more than 800MB and I couldn't update other apps, it was time for it to go. It's light hearted fun, but a huge waste of space.
@3dsgeek333 I had to manually update my Miitomo app. I just went to Google Play, searched for the app, then hit Update.
I don't understand why we can't have friend codes. It would be nice to have the option to post a number or username or QR that lets people request me without me having to give them any real-life contact information.
What's SMS? Sounds like something from the olden days.
I'm using an 8GB Moto G so internal storage is at a premium. I really wish they could push some of it to my 32GB SD card. I really enjoy using Miitomo. I use it to stay closer to friends and family since I don't live close to any of them.
That's the hair and beard my Mii has and the article made me do a triple take.
It might be worth mentioning that if you're using the Security Bypasser for this then the update will make that obsolete and will start crashing on start up again.
@bezerker99 The app doesn't show up on my Google Play. I downloaded using another app but forgot which one.
You plebs with your small storage space. 32 GB Galaxy Note 3 plus a 32 GB SD Card.
@hoshinosammy More power to you if you have a gig of internal space available to waste on something with so little actual content.
