I enjoyed the heck out of this for the few hours it lasted. The complaint about getting lost in the second area is on point, it was the only time I had to consult a walkthrough. The music is really good, for the most part, and fortunately the second overworld music is probably the best song, because you'll be hearing it a lot. (The first Sunset Cage theme is another that will get stuck in your head) The item and enemy descriptions still have that quirkiness the first one had, a touch I appreciated.
I really hope this sells well enough to make another, this is definitely one of the gems on the e-shop for its cost. I just wish it was longer! I'd give it a very solid 8/10 and say it's well worth the $7.
So I also got a "30% happy birthday discount" coupon for a bunch of titles I already own or games I don't want. My birthday is in May, so... close enough, guys.
What this game got that its gamecube sequel didn't, was "fun" being the name of the game. GX got the "speed" part down right, but it didn't have the personality. Tried to make the courses look cool and beat you over the head with it instead of letting it come naturally. It also required freaking frame-perfect play to beat some of those later races, which, ugh.
Have to figure out stuff to play for the four days before this drops. Other than some of the adventure missions being super cheap or straight up impossible this has really been a spectacular title.
Is there a site that has pictures of all the alternate costumes, because at this rate I won't even get to this newest adventure map until we're waiting for news about the Switch's successor.
If it can play older games, not necessarily the physical copies but off your SD card or portable hard drive, it turns into a very early buy. If not, I'm sure I'll get it at some point down the line, probably that holiday season.
give me an SD card slot that recognizes games I've already got and we've got something going (or the USB ports can recognize an SD card reader, that would work too)
The game is definitely a terrific fit for the 3DS in spirit, but the inexplicable frame-rate issues are jarring - a lot of the special effects seem superfluous and serve only to cause lag. The levels have less personality than I expected, but the gameplay/battles itself have been fine.
Some people hate that Parin makes a springy "BOING" sound every time she jumps but those people are wrong, it is delightful.
There are some nasty framerate issues so far even on the new 3DS - an option to turn off Parin's/Gurumin (I definitely named Parin Gurumn) drill attack special effects would do a lot to rectify that, I think.
I've been replaying the early levels over and over because I can't really get a good hold of Copen's mechanics, but it's interesting. A couple of the bosses are kind of out of place, being more puzzle bosses than anything else. I'm enjoying it quite a lot though.
The straight-out-of-a mid-2000s anime harem antics could be toned down a bit. I suppose I should be relieved that Rie Kugimiya's grating voice isn't part of the ensemble.
I get paid tomorrow, and then the Gunvolt Striker Pack will finally be mine on Saturday. Hoping the NLife review shows up pretty soon too.
Gurumin is next week! Those two games should get me to late November when the niece is going to need me to catch version-exclusive pokemon probably (even though I refuse to recognize anything after Celebi)
"It's been rubbish" doesn't sufficiently describe how bad this has been. My Nintendo has been so bad they could offer a free download of either Sonic Boom game for 80 gold coins and it would improve their rewards.
I've also only used Miitomo... four times in the last month?
That the designers of Sticker Star somehow didn't notice they made non-boss battles entirely unnecessary is one of the more inexplicable game design choices of the last several years. Is that part actually fixed?
Assuming the Gunvolt Striker Pack doesn't count (so close I can taste it), gotta go with Gurumin (updated rerelease), Super Mario Maker (port) and Runbow Pocket (updated rerelease), shame that DQ8 (updated rerelease) got pushed back to 2017.
Dragonball Fusions though, is that still on for 2016? Get me some of that definitely.
The NES/SNES baseball titles never really kept my attention the way the basketball and football (come at me) titles did. When I wanted to play baseball games I would always head to the PC. Probably wasted a few hundred hours in the old Hardball III, the one with the 1993 expansion clubs (and California Angels to boot)
Can't turn down a free theme though I'm over the limit of 10 at this point; also going to get some LTTP and Super Metroid action after I get paid tomorrow.
Gah we're so close to Gunvolt I can smell the electricity in the air. I've purposely avoided all the gameplay footage to quell the rising hype. Going to get the Striker Pack though, waiting that extra week gonna be so rough.
And Gurumin, we gotta get a release date for that soon, right?
I am definitely a fan of this series (and would like to hear more Brave Dungeon news from anywhere), but the M2 announcement doesn't really move the needle all that much. The biggest problem with Dark Witch 2 was the stages, and I can't think of any original games M2 has worked on to give an idea of how they might fix those.
I expect the presentation to be more crisp, but if they replace Rudymical with something less... Rudymical, how much, truly, does it matter?
"it can sometimes be uncomfortable to find a graceful way to hold the 3DS in such a way that you can move your protagonist with the Circle Pad whilst still jabbing at the screen."
I thought this was a really weird sentence when I first read it, and couldn't figure out why. Then I picked up my 3DS and tried it with the power off and found it to be pretty much impossible. Then it hit me, I'm left-handed and most people aren't. Are there alternate control schemes? Does something like this turn the game into "literally impossible" ? I had never even given it a second thought before reading this review.
1. Melee (in my personal all-time top 10, maybe top 5) 2. TTYD 3. Kirby's Air Ride (for city trial alone) 4. Symphonia (though I preferred Abyss, this was still great) 5. Soul Calibur II HM: Twilight Princess which I only played the wii version of Missing from the poll: the Tony Hawk games arguably peaked on the gamecube
Gurumin (does falcom really count as an indie?) and Runbow are definitely on the 'to get list' though below Gunvolt 2. We're supposed to still have two more shovel knight campaigns on the way too if not necessarily this year, right?
6/10 is a fair score (I think I've got it at a 5 or thereabouts). The level design is blah and overly reliant on walljump platforming, the exploration is very out of place in a Mega Man title (the worst parts of MM6), and the bosses are almost wholly subpar (Toxic Seahorse?!). The game is dark even for the X series, was not a fan of that route.
It's still better than any of X4 - X8 though, and the music is still god-tier. Getting to use the Z-saber, still pretty satisfying. Wouldn't drop $8 on this one, maybe $5 in the future?
Mega Man 7 was a step down from the first 6 (well, 2 through 6) and X, but X2 and 8 are really where the series started to lose me. While 8 was just not a good game, X2's problem is that this was the first time I thought no effort went into the bosses at all other than "Name an animal..."
I don't remember whether it was my first fight with Overdrive Ostrich or Wheel Gator where I said "this idea is stupid", but it was a reaction I hadn't even had with "Yamato Man" or the unfortunately named "Junk Man". X2 and X3 held on for a little while (Zero's theme in X3, un-freakin-forgettable) but this is about where they stopped being "Mega Man" games for me.
@stephenyap3 Brave Dungeon! I totally forgot it existed! Maybe we'll get some news at TGS like with Dark Witch 3. There's no page on NL for it, that's why I forgot it existed.
@ThomasBW84 speaking of games with no pages, can you forward to whoever is in charge of these things that there appears to be no NL page for that delightful N64 party romp Worms Armageddon?
I see Fairune is on discount again, enjoyed it up to the final boss unexpected gameplay change, any recent news on the second one? Hope it makes its way over here.
Super Castlevania IV is a must-buy, though not necessarily this week. Probably closer to Halloween
Grabbing one of LTTP or SMW this week, haven't decided which, will obviously be getting both eventually (and Super Metroid, and Mega Man X, and please for the love of god find a way to get us FF3/6)

Re: Isabelle Animal Crossing 3DS HOME Theme Added to My Nintendo in North America
got it because it was there, those 2000, 3000, 4000 whatever platinum points I don't even know, they aren't going to spend themselves
Re: Official 25 Hour Live Stream of Sonic the Hedgehog Games to Raise Money for Charity
can we get some robotnik's mean bean machine in there? There aren't enough good main series sonic games to get to 25 hours even if you 100% them.
Re: Nintendo Download: 3rd November (North America)
Got the Hyrule Warriors DLC from the season pass (Yuga's fun to play as, Ravio's a bit meh) and bought Animal Crossing (I'm a bit late to that party)
Re: Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King Arrives in North America on 20th January
Definitely going to get this

this would have been an amazing addition to tomodachi life, not sure about as a stand-alone

I think I'm going to finally join the animal crossing community, wish me luck

This week is bad and not good but I've got plenty of VC to catch up on.

race course looks like a yoshi, is there one of those in MK8?

Gurumin is ~3,800 blocks in NA (I really think NL should include this information for games as often as possible)
also woooooo gurumin

The rest of you should buy Project Mirai DX, obviously.
