As regular readers have no doubt noticed, we're fans of the somewhat anarchic but always self-aware Sonic the Hedgehog social media accounts. Yet it's not all memes, Sanic and fan-art, as it's been announced that the social team will run a 25 hour live stream (not 24, because the clocks go back in North America this weekend) of Sonic games in aid of charity.
It's all going down on the SonicOfficial Twitch channel, starting on 5th November at 8am Pacific / 11am Eastern / 3pm UK / 4pm CET and running until the same time the next day. This run of Sonic games, including the bad ones, is to support Children's Miracle Network Hospitals through Extra Life - there's a donation page right here.
More details are in the video below, even if most of the YouTube comments consist of people speculating whether Sonic dabbed at the 50 second mark - what a world.
It's a nice initiative from the Sonic team, and for a good cause. Will you be tuning in?

If Netflix's The Crown turns out to be no good this is a solid binging backup for the weekend.
Wat? Including... the Black Knight?
@the-madprofessor It's a decent game. Not amazing, but solid- it's nowhere near the actually bad Sonic games like '06, Boom, and it's predecessor The Secret Rings..
can we get some robotnik's mean bean machine in there? There aren't enough good main series sonic games to get to 25 hours even if you 100% them.
Who's ready for 25 hours of confusion and audio errors? I mean, the 25th anniversary was the same!
Remember, no matter how crappy the games may be, it's all for charity.
@Mega_Yarn_Poochy Yeah, I was about the say the bar has been set SUPER low due to that event.
What I'm more concerned about is that the Sonic social media has been pandering to the meme lords for a good while. The stream could go either way, but the chat is gonna be a mess unless they have a whole entire team of moderators (or just keep the chat closed altogether).
@A01 Uh, no. There's like 20 main games with only one of them being out right bad, not including not including the other 40 which are spin offs such as Boom, All-Stars, Riders, his 2 well made fighters and anything else I didn't mention.
I'll gladly watch if they're playing the GameCube games.
25 hours ?
Gosh...my eyes will be tired.
@SamirMalik That's your opinion. I person think only Colors (or Colours for you Europeans -_-), Sonic 2, Generations, and Sonic 3 are good games.
@A01 I can prove that remark wrong rather easily
@samuelvictor Okay, I forgot about the Advance and Rush series, but know, I'm not a fan of those other games and know one can make me like them.
I feel like I have to love every Sonic game except '06, Boom, Secret Rings, and the Black Knight like a child these days.
Dear God why?
@samuelvictor Master System all the way! Was the first console I ever owned (and still do) with Sonic 1 built in. But in Sonic 2 on Master System could never find that last chaos emerald. So NEVER saved poor old Tails. Ah well, will have to go back to that at some point.
And Sonic 3 with Knuckles is the best sonic game by far in my opinion.
Sonic save the day again! ^o^
And come on! The really awful games are just a few, indeed many are great with few spin-off falling in acceptable-playable territory. The only huge offenders are 06 and Boom, one as glitchy as my first tries in Unity, the other less glitchy, but very slow cause players don't want Sonic to be fast... I still can't believe they said that XD
Boom is boring no matter what. But for a live stream Sonic 06 is actually entertaining; some of the speedruns I've seen are insane.
It just dawned on me. Guys. GUYS.
Project Sonic 2017 is the successor to Sonic Generations. We're getting an actual "Classic 'n' modern" Sonic game to play on the go.
@Senpai_Bruh Unrelated, you're realistic muscle man picture creeps me out.
@SamirMalik Thank you for that, as well as noting the 2 fighting games, Battle is very unique and a lot of fun boasts a lot of modes and arguably the best written storyline in the Sonic Universe, it really deserved a sequel.
Sonic the Fighters is arguably the most mis-understood fighting game on the planet, everyone judges it for it's weak AI(On Normal too.) and claims all you do is mash, but then immediately cry about how hard Metal Sonic is, I however always found StF incredibly fun and charming as a kid, it had nice character models that animate very well even to this day, the slapstick presentation and Classic Sonic feel were great, and I always thought the games mechanics showed promise and had potential I bought the PS3 version and joined a player lobby and got my ass kicked hard by a bunch of people, it showed me just how intense the game could really get, so I befriended them and we all had several play sessions and we learned the game together, mashing will get you nowhere in StF against someone who knows the game especially because most punch strings can be dodged out of and punished accordingly, StF has some really unique mechanics with it's hyper mode, variable techs, barriers and 3 button set-up, it's my favorite 3D Fighter of All-Time behind Project Justice by Capcom.
If anyone's interested in hearing more about StF here's two video links, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqFYIssBGL0(StF can be competitive.)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xdpwDA6J_vM (StF player tutorial features mechanics often unknown to most players.)
The guy who made these was a good friend of mine back when we still played so if you like the videos please support him with a thumbs up, and if anyone's curious about learning feel free to reply, I don't play StF often anymore but I'm always willing to help others learn the game.
@CrazedCavalier Secret Rings is better than the Black Knight in almost every way though. :U
@AlexSora89 It's not a sequel
@ninty-love
As far as the insistency of SEGA goes, no, it's not. But... let's be honest: polygonal Death Egg Robots? Check; both Sonics? Check; what appears to be City Escape in ruins? Check. It's Sonic Generations 2 in all but name. So yeah, we're getting a portable Sonic Generations-esque (is this better?) to make up for the fact the first Sonic Generations got a portable companion - the 3DS version - that contained different, far less popular levels, and was essentially "first level: the game".
@AlexSora89 There is a high chance we might not even get any returning levels, and there's supposedly a whole new character. Classic Sonic is just there because he makes more money and better reviews than if it was just plain Sonic.
@ninty-love
We'll see. I wouldn't mind a Sonic Generations 2 at all, to be honest.
