If I'm going to buy a $60 game I expect to get 30 hours out of it. This doesn't have to be all in the first playthrough but a 10 hour first playthrough tells me I'd need to play the game enough to beat it 3 times and then some to get full value from it. I would have preferred hearing it took closer to 15 hours on first playthrough.
The version of the song of healing when you're inside the clock tower at the start of the game (or feel like going back inside to listen to it) is just incredibly haunting. It's one of my go-to mentions when people ask for this sort of thing, where it just feels like something is... wrong.
I had not realized with Project Mirai DX they had given us most of the really good songs - there are some solid additions in this one that weren't in that but yeah a lot of the songs I'm playing for the first time are just... not great? I'm even excluding stuff like rin-chan now which is cacophonic on purpose. I'm kind of surprised. Understandably, the mirai DX songs with Gumi did not make it back here (+f happy synthesizer) but stuff happens, I can live with it.
It's also way less forgiving than Project Mirai DX ever was. A performance that would net you 85% or more on Mirai DX barely tops 70 in this one, on easy mode. Getting 90% on every song on easy/medium/hard difficulty is going to take a lot of effort.
There's also this weird glitch where if I select future style Rin and put her in regular Rin's black star outfit the game functions perfectly but I completely forget to push any buttons - other people may not have this problem.
Even despite this though, the game is still a ton of fun; I haven't even touched mix mode yet and I feel it's going to be one of my three most played switch games for sure.
I would actually prefer a classic '93 DOOMguy helmet as a mii gunner costume than an actual fighter. That Sans costume wouldn't stand a chance, homing rockets or no
If you had no experience with Nintendo prior to Smash you'd look at this game and think Fire Emblem is the company's main IP. It makes no sense even before you get into half of them being personality-less generic self-insert characters.
Just about the only positive I can think of is getting 4 female alternate costumes, was honestly a little disappointed that Terry didn't, as much as I've enjoyed playing with him.
Highlight was the reveal of six fighters in fighter pack 2.
Can't say I'm thrilled with this but with Fighter Pack 2 having six characters, I feel like the original plan was not this, but introducing Byleth as a Piranha Plant-esque single release between fighter packs except Fighter #5 development went awry in some fashion, so here we are.
I can't imagine using this character all that much but I've gotten pretty good value out of the fighter pack. We all know Roy's our Boy anyway.
250 hours on 39 games with the most played being DOOM (1993), still putting in more hours on the 3DS than the switch, I think in part because the 3DS does this on its own already with easy access.
lists my first game played as blank (it was Mario Odyssey)
Conveniently had downloaded coloring book months ago looking for ways to entertain the youngins, might as well take them up on this offer. If even one of the games is good it will have been well worth it.
Please add an option to make the game brighter - this game went way past "dark and atmospheric" to so dark it was unplayable. It wasn't until the total conversion PC wads that I was able to realize "hey this game is actually pretty good and worthy of being called DOOM when you can see what's going on."
I'd be way more excited about SNK character spirit battles where they just have constant access to their final smash and perfect shield and no wait this sounds terrible actually.
Normal people: man that Pauline battle was not cool SNK: lololol
Our family's wii stopped ejecting disks so Super Smash Bros. melee is still in there to this day. I have no idea why or how this happened. We did play a lot of Melee but not to the point where it was the only thing that ever went in the system. One day it just decided it wouldn't eject it and the manual release didn't work either. Maybe something to do with the gamecube disk.
My original 3DS the analog stick simply snapped off. I do know how this happened, I had been playing project mirai DX for something like six or seven hours straight and went too hard to the left on an accented note.
In contrast, my GBA still plays pokemon blue without any issues whatsoever.
@DaWizerd I'm aghast I didn't catch that comment on the super shotgun reading the review the first time, nintendo life is allowed to be wrong sometimes but how on earth can they be that wrong?
@Iacobus That did actually happen in the original Doom 2 with mancubus fireballs, something to do with them being too big to register properly when timing tics check for them. Especially noticeable on -fast monsters which I wouldn't mind having the option to add.
I loved the new monsters in this (well, not you heavy weapon dude) though a lot of the level design fell flat to me. I would have paid another $5 (probably another $10) for Final Doom; I'm assuming that rights issues played some part in that not coming over to Switch.
The music slowdown and the slightly stretched sprites are nuisances but nothing that takes away from my enjoyment of the game. The bethesda account issue is more the principle rather than the hassle of the thing itself.
What I did notice though, is that playing in handheld mode, I cannot build up enough speed to perform either the E1M4 blue key skip or make it to the bottom of the well in MAP03 of Doom II. Is that just me needing to git gud with these new controls or are other people experiencing similar results?
Didn't think anything could pull me away from Mario Maker 2 before the next Smash DLC but original DOOM/DOOM II on the go is 100% something that could. I love these old cartoony monsters so much.
What if, hear me out, there was a way to put together all these levels consecutively, without having to go in and out of menus repeatedly, you could like... call them worlds or something, that would be a terrific quality-of-life addition.
You're limited to uploading 32 or limited to making 32? One of those is a problem, one of those is a big problem.
There's close to 90 levels in SMB3 even before the hammer bros and everybody knows the 96 exits of SMW. Even if we're not allowed to make world maps (wish we could!) 32 just not quite enough.
They don't have to straight up remove the weapon durability system but maybe boost everything by 50% so half the early game battles don't devolve into "quit the fight halfway to mcgyver a weapon out of two squirrels and a megaphone"
Looks quite interesting regardless, gotta find out what's hiding under the ground.
classic weapons sound pack? let's go nuts and get a classic monster skins pack, then we're talking
definitely getting this regardless
trying to explain to 13-year old me that playable imps and revenants are a thing in 2019 (even if only multiplayer), crazy
also trying to explain to 10-year old me that they made commander keen weird but more importantly robo red is back and imagining my head just exploding
Okay. so if you're making it focus on the handhelds, you understand that most people use them in quick bursts.
If you understand that most people use them in quick bursts, you will avoid hour and a half long series of cutscenes where control is minimal and saving is impossible, right?
This interests me way more than the actual Persona game people thought we were getting - see if they can throw previous games' characters in there. I honestly liked the cast of characters a lot more than the actual gameplay.
no playable futaba ever though, if you let futaba be playable can you really call it P5?
This game is terrific actually, sure not as good as 6 but 6 is my favorite game of all time so I don't really hold that against it. (Can we please have 6 at some point, I can only play the steam version so many times)
The map of the island makes progress look super linear, bit more of a concern than the improved graphics that people don't play the game for in the first place
"hey guys we made it look way better but the gameplay still isn't fun" is way more of an xbox thing to do - hope this is much closer to let's go in gameplay than sun/moon/their upgraded counterparts
Only have played VIII which had moments where it was just incredible but ran about 40 hours longer than it should have - my understand is that's kind of a theme with the franchise?

Re: Talking Point: Which Game Stage Have You Replayed More Than Any Other?
BionicDodo has the right idea but it's actually map 2 of Doom II, Underhalls, since a lot of custom maps take the place of map 1
Re: Talking Point: Is The N64 Pad Actually The Best Controller Ever?
In retrospect, the N64 controller was actually the most left-handed friendly controller to ever exist even if it was ugly as sin.
