Re: Poll: What Are Your Favourite Super NES Games?

ap0001

What a crazy loaded list, just the ones you did include!

Choices from your list:
1. FF6 - my pick for 'greatest game ever'
2. Super Mario All Stars - I love SMB3 to death, it makes the list even before adding the other games
3. Chrono Trigger - I like the additions in the DS version but this is still an all-time game.

Not on your list:
Super Tecmo Super Bowl: 3 seasons mode, 28 teams, quick and easy to get into, loads of hours wasted
Super Tecmo NBA basketball - this game in 1993 was simming 73-9 Golden State Warriors seasons, believe it or not (and 76-6 Portland seasons, which kind of got annoying), not as good as super bowl though.
Super Empire/Return of the Jedi

Re: Pokémon Snap Confirmed For Wii U Virtual Console Release This Week

I'm legitimately surprised by the nostalgia factor this game has. I found the difficulty curve totally haphazard - either a pokemon was right out in the open or you had to do some absurd sequence of events that required either a guide or complete guesswork to get an evolved version of a 'mon to appear - and it was crazy short.

I remember getting the pic of Mew (uh, 17 year old game spoilers?) the weekend we bought the game and it was just... over. The premise was good, but it could have used another 50+ pokemon, and an actual sensible progression.

Re: Review: Metroid Prime: Blast Ball (3DS)

I liked the Kirby standalone side-games way more. When's our eshop Team Kirby Clash DX nintendo?

The ball being too heavy is spot on - and once one side has an advantage, if a convenient power-up doesn't spawn, you can kiss that point goodbye.

Possible suggestions for updates down the line:
1) Have the option to change ball weight, with the default being closer to a superball
2) Actual arenas (not just reskins) from a final-destination area with no siderails to Metroid/Metroid II/Metroid Prime themed areas with associated hazards to ridiculous not-Metroid arenas like a bouncy castle.

Re: Nintendo of America Expands Nintendo Selects Range and Unveils Small New 3DS Bundle

I've never gotten the appeal of Animal Crossing and never wanted to drop $40 to find out, so I guess I've gotta put my money where my mouth is and take the plunge at the end of this month for half that. Luigi's mansion 2 for $20 seems workable too. Might make up for this month-plus of nothing on the eshop.

Unless NOA puts FF6 on the new 3DS eshop between now and then in which case I have to drop everything and finally upgrade to the new 3DS.

Re: Review: BOXBOXBOY! (3DS eShop)

ap0001

I bought the original boxboy a couple weeks ago when it went on sale during the E3 promotion and finished it just in time for this one to come out. I've almost gotten through the game 100% (I can't figure out for the life of me, the crown in 15-3).

This game, to be blunt, is an inferior mission-pack sequel of the first game with less content and no new mechanics (Recall, you could make two sets of boxes in the last world of Boxboy 1). If you liked the first one you'll enjoy this but at no point have I said "wow that's a clever solution" like I did in the first game, even with for the most part twice as many blocks. My biggest complaint about the original game, that it felt like an extended tutorial, wasn't really fixed until the last five worlds here. Honestly, if you haven't played it, I'd buy this one first and get the original second and play through them that way.

I hope the next one has a level-editor, that would be neat. There's potential here but it's not reaching it.
