Here at Nintendo Life, we love video games. Heck, we should do, right? What we love even more, though, is when we discover something that we've never come across before; whether it be a secret in a well-known game, a quirky glitch or trick, or even a completely unknown video game that we just happened to stumble across, discovering new things is always a joy.
We wanted you fine folks to share in our joy, too! That's why our lovely video producer Zion has started the 'Game Joy' series; a new set of 5-minute videos in which we showcase something fun and random from video games that bring us joy.
In this week's debut episode, Zion shows off a lesser-known DS game called Barnyard Blast: Swine of the Night. If it's not obvious from the game's title, the game is a fun nod to the Konami masterpiece, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, albeit with more 'classic' Castlevania-inspired gameplay, as opposed to the 'Igavania' approach seen in Symphony of the Night.
That's quite enough waffle, though; check out the video below and let us know in the comments what you make of Barnyard Blast: Swine of the Night!

@Rambler NO NOT THIS AGAIN.
I had a game when I was young that this whole idea reminds me of: Phineas and Ferb Ride Again on the DS if I'm not mistaken. For a licensed game, it had no reason for being as good as it was. There was great platforming, varied level themes, constant interesting power-ups and even 60FPS all the time. I would love to play it again in the future because it's exactly the kind of thing this game is: something that's shockingly good for what it is.
@Fizza That game was AWESOME. I think I played it about 10 times as a kid on my DS Lite. Unfortunately I think my parents sold it at some point in time, but I can’t imagine a copy is too expensive at this point.
Never heard of this game. Looks interesting. But is it actually any good?
Always up for a good metroidvania, especially on ds/3ds.
Just looked on ebay and it looks like this game never released in the PAL region. Guess that doesn't matter since the ds isn't region locked.
Switch port when? 😝
Yay, I just love those quirky DS games
A buddy of mine gifted me this back in the day, but I never played it because I had a backlog then just like I do now. It does look fun.
@Olliemar28 Found a minor grammatical error - "Here at Nintendo Life, we love video games. Heck, we should do, right?" Guessing that should be "we should" or "we should too"?
awesome idea!! keep doing them please.
@BongoBongo123 Sadly, no. Nothing really works: controls, enemies, weapons… Forget it.
I actually had this when I was younger
I remember downloading the ROM of this back in the day and being shocked that a game published by DSI wasn't an awful game. Its kinda serviceable at best but for DSI that is astonishing.
@Kilroy Not sure if this is a UK / US thing, but that's not an error (in the UK, at least).
@Damo @Kilroy It's a Britishism. I got a lot of funny looks in the US until I learned not to say it.
@Damo Good to know.
I have this. It's actually pretty decent.
Barnyard Blast is really good, there’s fun to be had here that shouldn’t exist for what it is. Looks like a shovelware game, published by a less than reputable publisher, bargain priced (when it came out).
I had hoped that this game would of gotten a second chance on the 3DSeShop during its heyday and it probably would of gotten a lot more attention then as an $8 download.
Castlevania already has pigs, theyre just cooked and hidden in the walls
